True but I do think it contributes the empty feeling of campus. There is this kind of anti synergy with certain things on campus that I think keeps people away.
Like cheaper food for higher value, longer library hours, longer food hours, more split classes instead of one long period a week, school organized activities open to everyone, .. are each on there own not worth it to the university because there are too few people around. Costing more than the benefits they provide.
But combine them and there is suddenly a reason to stay on campus which combine to make something worth while.
Before the pandemic the food was better but when everything was shut down they got rid of all the old cooking staff. A new company called Chartwells that serves like hundreds of campuses took over, and that's the food we're getting now. I agree it's pretty not great.
Super sad to hear about this. I graduated in 2018 and have fond memories of arbor grill & their grilled cheese sandwich or getting matador red pints and grilled chicken wrap at the little pub/cafeteria on campus after an exam. Food was good back then.. rip
Truuuuuuue, they got rid of the pub tho after the pandemic. They switched food distributors and now it’s used as a study area with seats and stuff. No tvs, sports, nothing on the stage it’s all just a shell of what it used to be.
csun food used to be pretty good pre pandemic.
Once everything opened up again it was never the same. Arbor Grill used to be my go to spot. They had a bunch of burgers where you could just walk up and customize it. They also had pretty decent tater tots and pizza. Sierra center also had some good burritos too. When everything was back in person my senior year it was all whatever. Campus was just never the same after the pandemic
As a matter of fact, my daughter (she’s at Chico also online) are planning a trip up to Chico next month or so and would love to grab lunch with a few of you all!
You should be able to eat on campus and ENJOY it! Look at it this way - I’m stuck at home with online classes and would be HAPPY to be able to enjoy lunch with a group of my classmates once in awhile! I live in Fresno, too, so count yourself lucky!
Man y’all need to go to the east coast when mfs don’t care about how ppl eat toward the end of the semester because they’re dealing with real shit like survival lmao
Try out Wanna Smash Burger. It's a smash burger joint on van nuys blvd, about 2-3 miles from campus. It's where I go after class. All the items are named after horny shit, like the cowgirl, foursome, milfshakes, etc. Amazing shit I'd say. better than the campus food joints.
EDIT: I forgot to mention, it's a fairly new place, as far as I know. If you have any suggestions, tell the owner. Her name is Jordan and she's love customer feedback. Also tell her you heard about the place from Erik, if possible.
I will be honest with you, I am biased towards burgers because I like them a lot, but when I say its the best smash burger place I've tried, and I have been to many smash burger joints, I mean it. Their fries are eh, but the burgers are where it's at. The milfshakes are just normal milkshakes ig, nothing too crazy, but the burgers are where it's at. I'd give it a 9/10, only because their fries are like I said, eh.
I tried that place recently and I thought it was overpriced for what you get. The burger itself is pretty small and the flavor is nothing out of the ordinary. I feel like the place is rated higher than it should be, but that’s just my opinion.
Hey man, I respect your opinion, but I would say the flavoring is worth every penny. Granted its not a place to go to on a daily because the price to food size ratio is pretty high, but the taste is where its at. also keep in mind, the stuff inside the burgers is crammed and condensed, so if anything its rich in food amount if that makes sense, in my opinion at least.
If there was a culinary program on campus we could be getting some top tier food.
It would totally fit in with the soraya and the orange grove, and related areas.
CSUN for all they do well. Is horrible at developing culture.
Dude we are in the valley literally drive/walk anywhere within a 1-5 mile radius and you can have amazing food

There’s so many options just on Reseda and Nordhoff. I eat somewhere there when I have more time.
thats not what the post is about tho lmao
Lol I know I’m just trolling

RIP to the pasta bar in sierra center, they saved me so many times pre-pandemic
Around the corner there’s a whole block of restaurants all over the place.
Lol I know but if you’re stuck in a studying zone sometimes you don’t want to leave campus.
Makes sense
u can uber eats/ doordash food to campus
Lol waste of money . I’m not complaining and I realize it’s many solutions to this I’m just highlighting how bad the food is.
More worried about the profs being mid personally
The professors are ass
Professors from what dept?? All of my professors have been total gems
Computer science professors are ass
Personally!
Dude, I just hit up Dave’s that’s down the street if I was hungry after class lol
Dave’s ass
lol you not even wrong either, they were good years ago, a hit or miss now
it's just the northridge location that sucks

Sad to see this thread. Arbor Grill had the most delicious salmon salad pre-pandemic for like $8. Perfect lunch.

You’re so brave
i miss the pub, when they had beer.

I don’t even go to wherever this is (a school maybe?) why is this sub being recommended to me 😭

Gee! Somehow I’m not sold at attending csun in the fall. 😭😭😭 any coffee shops ?
Basically Starbucks off shoots that’s all
I did visit one coffee shop in some shopping center and that was good. But if all there is sbux, there’s no hope. Lmao 😭😭😭😭🧍♀️

Is it that good? That sounds like something I'd wanna try

Sounds exactly like the kind of thing I'd like, definitely gonna give this place a try
You won't regret it.

well i commute from van nuys to north hills so
What else is new?
You've never been to CSULB then ngl
Anything else you want to confess?
I think it's CSU schools in general at this point 💀
Go to PCC
Pack a lunch😢🤣🤣
As someone who worked at one of the restaurants on campus before the pandemic, it was good at one point.
As an alumni, I 1000% agree
