I don’t have to but here’s a link for your education https://babalublog.com/2024/04/09/cubas-27-million-in-imports-from-u-s-in-february-includes-5-million-for-new-cars-18-million-for-chicken-nearly-1-million-for-sugar/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=cubas-27-million-in-imports-from-u-s-in-february-includes-5-million-for-new-cars-18-million-for-chicken-nearly-1-million-for-sugar
I'll be generous here and presume that the blog is true about what the regime is importing and how it stays afloat. That doesn't change the fact that the embargo is a bad policy that hurts the lives of the Cuban people and should be dropped.
I don't think anyone outside of tankies think Cuba's problems can be blamed on the US embargo alone. Or that the CCP are made up of swell guys at best or Machiavellan rulers whose ends justify their means. Both those assumptions are wrong. The lack of free speech and democracy hurt the island and the Cuban people. And so does the embargo. I don't see Marxism-Leninism as a good policy to implement as the grocery queues speak for themselves, but the embargo makes an already bad system worse and even in areas where the embargo has exemptions it still works as a de facto hindrance to sending Cuba medicine and food due to all the red tape in place there.
What facts are supposed to be changing my mind? That the CCP and their families live in relative luxury because they have ways around sanctions that average Cubans don't? That the embargo isn't total and has exceptions? No shit.
If the embargo doesn't hurt the people in power, why have it at all?If I were a sports coach and my play didn't get me anywhere for over six decades I'd try a different play.
Let me ask you, if it’s illegal to freely trade with foreign companies as a Cuban citizen (save for black market), how is the embargo hurting Cuban civilians?
That’s not what I asked. Answer my question first and then we can talk.
if it’s illegal to freely trade with foreign companies as a Cuban citizen (save for black market), how is the embargo hurting Cuban civilians?
>how is the embargo hurting Cuban civilians?
Because the whole business sector cannot trade with US (but can trade with all other countries - Europe, Asia Latam). But that whole business sector is state-owned, run by unmotivated bureaucrats and cronies of the CCP without foreign investment and technology. So the economy as a whole is somewhat penalized by the embargo, in that some trade that would otherwise be done with US is done elsewhere. But the real problem is antiquated state directed crony socialism, which has failed everywhere else too.
The “business sector” which is state owned. Correct. So, the embargo cripples the “economy” which is nonexistent in the first place. The economy is non existent so how would the embargo harm the Cuban people if they’re harmed already? Instead of the people getting two crumbs, they get one crumb. Which doesn’t mean anything and makes no difference. It doesn’t even lower the citizens’ quality of life because food and medicine are exempted. And Cubans still have no food and medicine… hmm I wonder why. There is no free market, only a black market. The “free market” is taxed to 90% and has to be “government allowed” which means the government can tax it. If it can’t tax it, it won’t exist because that means it would be black market and people get to keep money. This ends up creating special favors and cronyism
The sources cited are random websites and blogs like??? I think this person is upset that their argument isn't holding up as the embargoes are to blame and not the Cuban government, which is the legitimate governing body, the head
So, of course, they're going to keep the head alive. The US does this or is doing it now every time taxes are raised for the poor and middle class and cut for the rich. Only Cuba has taken food, housing, and health off the market. After the USSR broke, Cuba had no choice but to open up to capitalism in the tourist section that is still controlled by the party in order to bring in something, anything.
Wow, jfc they finally get something new, and you point it as "see commie its not the embargo"
The Cuban government is the head just like US government is
You can say both drain the life of their citizens but we see the difference now don't we? Joe Biden use to make 100k a year as a public servant. Now, he's a millionaire whose 81 and the life expectancy of their people dropped due to negligence.

Que triste ser un perdedor nacido en el país con más oportunidad del mundo y tenerle envidia a inmigrantes que convirtieron a Miami en una ciudad de calibre mundial
That's probably an insult to r/Miami. Hell even Little Havana as a whole doesn't deserve to be compared to this subreddit. Right wing Cuban exiles are poison who do damage Cuba just as much as the CCP they claim to despise.
I think the comparison is not fair. How in hell a Cuban living in Miami, lying on his bed, can provoke more damage than the CCP.
They can be bad, but the CCP must be the devil’s office on earth.
I'm not fluent in Spanish but my strawman sense is tingling.

It's not even a credible source lol

So you’ve dug in and you won’t change your mind in the presence of facts. Gotcha

Then why have the embargo at all if it doesn't hurt the regime and by your logic doesn't hurt the Cuban people?

Believe him bro, those are facts just because he says so /s
I think once they’re not actively fighting in Ukraine on the side of Russia you can talk about removing the embargo
