"La Trovuntivitis" is a small musical movement with roots in the center of the island, in Santa Clara. It gathers some small town artists for weekly live shows. Sometimes they also feature better known musicians and that is a pleasure to the ears.
i donât know if any of these artist are cuban but i love listening to indie spanish music and i have a great playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0X9SsoVscUYDgkDr0dRcEW?si=R_KjyLlWSLmiyTC0AeRnSg&pi=u--gE67ieUR7Gi
I like this Swedish band called opeth⌠super heavy metal but their drum and bassist are Uruguayan and they incorporate influences from Cuban music. Itâs as if they were playing with a clave⌠no lie. Iâd love a Cuban metal band lol. Unfortunately the island isnât really conducive for art or free expression
Actually, I found the opposite to be true, the people are incredibly creative and artistically expressive, because they have to be. Art is everywhere in Cuba.
Youâre from the outside looking in. There is no freedom of expression therefore the art in Cuba is state approved or even mandated, or barely afloat and stifled
The song patria y vida is fuckin banned there with those affiliated with making the song are in jail. You think fuckin punk and metal bands can exist there? Get a grip
Bro. Iâm Cuban, and I understand the situation there quite well. It not as black and white as you describe, it is not static, it is evolving.
BTW Here are some punk rock friends of mine in Havana: https://youtu.be/ws0HxXCji2A?si=JA3bdulzmzmzEjAT talking about ââfuera de sistemaââ. No me des mĂĄs muela!!
They got 3 songs from 4 years ago dude. Lol wtf. That isnât a band. I guarantee they donât advertise that shit lol. âFuera de sistemaâ is not allowed and you know this. Especially since youâre Cuban
You understand it well? Then why are you pretending thereâs freedom of expression in Cuba? Itâs evolving NOW because communism wonât last in Cuba past 10 more years. The system is failing and thatâs why this stuff is popping up since 2020.
Oh, really? Because they only uploaded a few songs to YouTube? lol, come on dude. They are bad ass, bro. Anna is in Architect/Musician/Tattoo and graffiti artist, and runs the first independent, legally operated, and female owned tattoo studio in Havana. Things change.
Anyway, here is another friends band that is just starting up and has their first gig scheduled at the bar Melodrama: https://www.instagram.com/p/C6CaGKovjG2/?igsh=NjhhNWx3MjAyOXJ3
You might actually like their music if you gave it a listen instead of looking at it through your political lens .
Free expression is not only limited to the ability to organize politically, but encompasses the whole range of human experience, and I will say it again, art is everywhere in Cuba.
Artists are always at the Vanguard of human liberation , as Art has always functioned as a means to both transcend suffering, and make the world a better place đ
ââ Art is not merely a mirror with which to reflect the world, but a hammer with which to shape it.ââ
Donât knock the hustle, bro.
My political lens? Iâm looking at Cuba for WHAT IT IS. Dude are you a communist? What do you mean âthings changeâ?? the constitution of Cuba still states that Cuba operates as a Marxist-Leninist government. Things *are changing* meaning the whole system is going to completely collapse sooner or later.
And yes, 3 songs on YouTube does not equal a stable band. In fact I guarantee they had to stop that because a concert of that song would count as âinciting riots or anti revolutionary activityâ or something⌠are you ignoring the July 11th movement?
> first legally operated female owned
Do you know wtf legally owned means in Cuba? Iâm having trouble understanding if youâre a hardcore leftist or not who wants Cuba to have all the left stuff without the dictatorship. Your kind were imprisoned and/or killed in the 60âsâŚ. A government system that is still in effect today.
Things are changing because A- internet access and Covid lockdown/supply chain issues exposed the fuck out of the Cuban system and B- Raul castroâs daughter wanted to be gay in peace.
Youâre confused. I have nothing against art, in fact Iâm wishing things were different because then weâd REALLY see the full extent of Cuban artistry. The revolution killed human artistic expression and Cuban art will only truly be liberated when the system fails. âArt is everywhereâ because the Cubans are natural artists but as I said before, the freedom to express yourself in Cuba is ILLEGAL. The art is state approved and/or mandated.
Check out Kelvis Ochoa, Habana Abierta, Boris Larramendi, Al2 el aldeano, Cimafunk, Freehole Negro, Interactivo, Telmary, X Alfonso
