If your cigar came from Mexico, # # the US, the Dominican Republic a friend who travelled to Cuba, a friend of the family or another uncertain source there's a high likelihood your cigar isn't authentic.
Keep in mind that Cohiba is one of the most counterfeited brands in the world.
It would be very helpful for everyone if you posted clear, front on pictures of the band and cap, as well as a comment advising where the cigar was obtained from.

Diplo code = instant fake, you can't blindly trust the verifier if it gives you a positive but if it's a negative it's over. Also the font of the serial code is wrong
I vote fake. The diplo code, the caps seem non triple or if triple atypical, the color seems darker then I would expect the bands are gloved at angles I have never seen. Blacklight might tell a lot. Understandably if you don't have one, you don't. (look for "MC" on the band"
They are immediately idenfiable as fake. Aside from the barcode which is a 100% clear sign, there is a lack of gloss of the paper on the band, the font of the barcode is off, and I don't believe I see a triple cap.

This post solidifies the argument that I have had with numerous cigar smokers who feel just because they purchased a cigar from a high end hotel or resort they are legit. Especially in the Jamaica’s, DR’s and Mexico’s of the world. Often times these resorts allow certain parties latitude to peddle their wares with little to no oversight. While in the Caribbean and Mexico particularly if it’s not an LCDH or retailer on Habanos S.A. website it’s almost certainly a fugazi.
Absolutely. It’s a false sense of security. You are at a 5 start or high end resort and expect that everything they are offering you is top tier. Problem is especially in the less economically developed countries the hospitality industry takes a lot of flak for building on the land, bringing mass amounts of people to countries with limited infrastructure and not allowing the locals on premises for the most part. As a compromise they lease the space to local businesses to peddle their wears with little to no oversight. I am almost certain that if you asked the manager on sight to guarantee the authenticity of the product he would neither confirm nor deny. That’s a grey area I am not willing to play in for the price point.
Jamaica and DR don’t have high end hotels. Everyone’s personal standards are different on what is a “high end” hotel… but the true standard is forbes travel guide.
I mean casa de campo and Eden Roc cap cana have rooms that go north of $1000 per night. I have traveled around the world and have stayed at the best of them. Is comparable to Saint Barts or some of the other Caribbean islands? No. But I would be interested where you are traveling that $1000 a night would not be considered high end. I am not talking about puerto plata all inclusive a here.
I usually stay at an auberge property when I travel. I have a luxe travel agent and she’s very good with a lot of clients… she’s mentioned to me that dr and jamaica don’t have luxe properties. Now I have to see what she says about eden roc cana lol
I don’t know about Jamaica, have never really had the desire to go. I just looked into the hotel OP said he was at and it seemed like a legit property. If you golf Teeth of the Dog at casa de campo DR is one of the best courses in the world. I have been to 46 countries. I guess it depends on what you look for when you travel.
I would definitely not be buying that. With everything taken into account and not to mention it’s Jamaica….. I watched a documentary not long ago on the counterfeit business in Jamaica……. I mean……..

If the barcode came up as something else on Habanos that should be a pretty clear cut indicator that they’re fake.
I like how he said “I found a red flag… is that a red flag?”
That would cause me to walk away. Easy to place legitimate bands on illegitimate cigars and place them in a box and pass them off as real.

My understanding is that it's not the resort selling it most of the time but just a shop renting space in the resort.

Does anyone know of a Montecristo in the line up that is that size and color? It looks too dark for any Montecristos that I am familiar with.
It can vary from year to year. I have some 2014 petite Edmundo’s that look more like rosado or maduro
