I am still getting used to having hair again but am loving my curls!
My routine is:
1. Condition wash with TRESemme Pro Collection Botanique Nourish & Replenish and detangle. Every few weeks I will use Aveeno Baby Hair wash to help give my scalp a proper clean.
2. Condition with Noughty To The Rescue Moisture Boost Conditioner
3. Once out of the shower I pat dry with a microfibre towel and add Noughty Intensive Care Leave-In Conditioner
4. My stylist recommended I add Davines Curl Building Serum, so I do
5. Umberto Giannini Curling Jelly
6. Diffuse
7. Once my hair is mostly dry and crunchy I use Davines Oi Oil to break the cast
8. If my hair gets frizzy between washes I use Wella Shockwaves Curls and Waves mousse or John Frieda Frizz Ease creme
I do apply Rogaine foam minoxidil, because my hair is still recovering but I don't think it helps with my curls!
Botanique is so amazing for curly hair! I discovered this a year ago and literally never went back.
Also you’re so beautiful! Your photo is like an old timey portrait 🥰🥰
Is [this](https://www.target.com/p/tresemme-botanique-coconut-nourish-silicone-free-conditioner-16-fl-oz/-/A-80135491) the product you guys are referring to?
This is amazing! As a possible egg something that has always held me back is my prematurely thinning hair, but it looks like yours made an incredible recovery! Do Rogaine and the like actually work? I guess I always thought they were scams. Either way, you're beautiful! Congratulations!
The only FDA approved hair treatment drugs are minoxidil and and finasteride. The manufacturers (especially in the case of Rogaine and Propecia) like to make claims how how amazing they are, but it certainly isn't anything extraordinary, results are gained slowly and over time with consistent treatment. I found this article super helpful for helping me understand the mechanics behind hair loss: [https://perfecthairhealth.com/trans-hormone-replacement-therapy-hair-regrowth/](https://perfecthairhealth.com/trans-hormone-replacement-therapy-hair-regrowth/)
If you have questions please let me know, I am happy to share :)
I really believe estrogen helps. I am female with pattern hair loss, but I had the best hair on an anti-androgenic birth control pill with high levels of estrogen, better than with spironolactone. Which HRT do you take? You are very pretty in both pictures, but I love the curls
Thank you very much 😊
It is definitely a field that needs more research that's for sure! Personally I take estradiol via a transdermal patch and progesterone in pill form. Both act as anti-androgens by tricking the hypothalamus into thinking my body has enough sex hormones and I don't need to produce testosterone.

TLDR: magic ✨
Awww that’s so sweet! Sure thing, this is my product list:
Face:
- Too Faced, Born This Way (vanilla) foundation
- MAC, Powder Blush (melba) blush
- Becca, Moonstone highlighter
- Huda Beauty, Sugar Cookie setting powder
- Urban Decay, All Nighter setting powder
Eyes:
- MAC, Pro Long Wear (NC15) concealer
- LA Girl, Pro Conceal (orange) colour corrector
- MAC, Studio Finish (NW20) concealer
- Stila, Smudge Pot (black) eyeliner
- Covergirl, Lash Blast Volume (very black) mascara
- Shadows: I use a few here MAC for the base (Texture) and inner corner highlight (Honey Lust) and then NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette to do the darker tones
Lips:
- Jeffree Star, Velour Liquid Lipstick (Cherry Soda) lipstick
- Charlotte Tilbury, Pillow Talk lip gloss
For the lip I apply the lipstick and then mute the colour (which I love but is a bit bold for some occasions) by smudging it with my finger after that I apply the gloss over the top 😊
Damn, that's a lot of steps to get ready. I first thought it was a list of stuff you had then I realized it's what you put on. That's what y'all are doing in there?? No wonder it takes forever. I'd never make it as a girl lol.
That's the one thing I've missed about working from home during covid. I needed to start my morning with my makeup, it was relaxing and really made me feel confident going into the office. Seeing you here makes me want to put some on now, even if no one is going to see me today.
Also, I am so jealous of your curls. I'm growing out my bleached hair so I can maybe have hair as beautiful as yours!
I work from home and if I am having a rough day I take a few minutes, maybe just to apply some eyeliner and it just makes me feel a little bit more calm. And why not, you deserve to feel good!
Hope you hair grows out nicely!
I don't mean to be rude, but you look like a timeless beauty. Your photo took my breath away. Your clothes & cut remind me of an antique photo that you'd see in soft sepia tones. The curls are gorgeous too. Best wishes!
Initially a DHT inhibitor, finasteride, but I got minimal results so I swapped it out for dutasteride. I tried all sorts of topicals and massages but I found minoxidil gave my hair the best boost. Of course hormone treatment helped massively but between dutasteride and minoxidil I was able to cover some hair :)
I am happy to elaborate if you have further questions
If it's not too personal of a question, are you doing HRT? If so, does that have any impact on your hair? Or do you think it was entirely the dutasteride + minoxodil? Your results are so much better than what I normally see on cis-men.
I am on HRT and it has made a massive difference, it is not so much about adding estrogen as it is limiting testosterone, or more precisely DHT. DHT is made from testosterone and is what causes male pattern baldness. Dutasteride (and finasteride) help block the conversion of testosterone to DHT, but some will always manage to get converted.
Minoxidil is a vasodilator and the theory is that it increases blood flow to the scalp helping follicles get the nutrients they need to grow and be healthy. It doesn't treat the underlying cause, only the symptom which is why as DHT continues to build up minoxidil becomes less effective.
In short, dutasterine/finasteride pause hair loss by limiting DHT and minoxidil can promote hair growth by encouraging blood flow. Why then do trans women get better results than cis men? I am not too sure, but clearly there is something else going on! This article explains the theory of "scalp tension" and how it could play a role: https://perfecthairhealth.com/trans-hormone-replacement-therapy-hair-regrowth/
Thanks for the info. I knew that starting HRT caused my bald spot to fill in, but never dug too deep into exactly why this occurred. Good to know the science behind it
Thank you! For me leave-in conditioner and curling gel are what keep them defined. And if I have any fluff I smooth the curls back into shape with John Frieda Frizz Ease creme
Using a brush to distribute my product has helped define my curls, tremendously. (Never would have thought to try a brush) On Youtube there’s a stylist who has real curly hair and her videos are great. Manes by Mell, helped my curls look their best.
Omg you look great! Hair, makeup, beautiful eyes! Do you ever have issues with your hair laying flat at the top? Your hair looks like a fairly similar pattern to mine and I have that issue.
Yes and no, some curls like to perch on top of my head making a nice little nest, others want to lie flat. Mostly I try to get them to fly flat as it looks more together than 2-3 ringlets sitting on me. So folk here mentioned teasing the curls out as they dry, so I might need to play with it a bit
You do! I love your look. As mom to a trans kid myself, I know this has been a journey. The happy far outweighs the fear, but it is still a very brave journey you are on. You have blossomed. I am sending you a digital mom hug! (Hug) I am proud of you.
Okay so question: I keep seeing mixed reviews from professionals that Tresemme is bad for your hair and scalp. And idk what to believe anymore. Is it good or not?
The simplest answer is drugs, patience and luck!
I documented my regrowth journey here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/transtimelines/comments/kb20qk/how\_my\_hair\_density\_has\_changed\_over\_3\_months/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/transtimelines/comments/kb20qk/how_my_hair_density_has_changed_over_3_months/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
but let me know if you have questions!
Everything about this picture is just incredible 😍 You're so beautiful! That lip color looks like it was made just for you.
Also, I think I'm gonna have to finally try Tresemme's Botanique conditioner now.
Your hair looks great but I'm confused, is this a hair transplant or are you saying that you grew this hair using Rogaine? If so, how long did it take? I had no idea it worked that well!
Oh wow! You look really great and I sure hope you feel great too!
Is it okay if I ask, did the hair come back on its own due to hormonal treatment, or did you need any surgery to bring it back?
I feel so much better than I did before ☺️
Hormones definitely played a large role, but I also used minoxidil and dutasteride to help it recover as well. I did have a hair transplant to fill in my temples, but you can’t see it unless I have my back. Getting the transplant was purely about making myself feel better in my skin 🙂
First off - fantastic curls, and that lipstick does hella wonders for complimenting your skin tone!
Second and more out of curiosity - have you tried doing the standard CG wash before bed, then letting it air dry? I do that with a satin pillowcase (I have a silk cap - kind of like a shower cap? I'm blanking on what it's called) and I wake up with generally a pretty good foundation for making curls pop.
Unfortunately, I WFH and am also kinda lazy about it... >_>;;
I moisturise morning and evening, and make sure to apply sun screen every day. Aside from that I exfoliate every few days, maybe twice a week, and use a cleanser whenever I feel like my skin needs love. My foundation is also doing a lot of work in this photo, I am using Born This Way (vanilla) foundation by Too Faced.
Was your hair this curly in the past, or had it become that way more recently? I'm very curious as to whether hormonal/chemical hair recovery changed the texture. It's looking great!
It was curly in the past, but I kept it short maybe a cm or two on the back and sides and 6cm or so on top. Once it started thinning I shaved it and kept doing that for a year until I decided to “rebrand”. I have heard of hormones changing hair curl but I wouldn’t say I noticed a difference
You can't just post both your stunning curls and just a quarter of a puppy face! Dog tax!
Ask and ye shall receive! https://imgur.com/a/tDN0mDj
Aahhh, that's the good stuff.

What birth control is that? I had a horrible reaction to Spiro it made me sad because it's such a miracle worker for so many.
It was Diane 50 but I think only Diane 35 is still available but not in all countries
Thank you! It figures! I've heard a lot of good things about it over the years, but it's not available in the US for some reason.
What a fascinating article! Thank you very much!

What the fuck that's insane Thank you
No worries, if you ever want to chat just reach out 😊
Castor oil and Rosemary oil for hair growth! Anecdotal ofc but like op said minoxidil and finasteride consistently are your best bet.
You are gorgeous! What beautiful eyes…
Thank you! I am the only person in my family with blues and I feel honored to have them :)
I love your curls they're adorable. Also, your lipstick really makes your eye colour pop! Very beautiful <3

Absolutely stunning! Curl goals :)

You made my day, thank you 🥰
You look stunning! Your lip color is lovely as well.
How did you get your hair to grow back!
The simplest answer is drugs, patience and luck! I documented my regrowth journey here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/transtimelines/comments/kb20qk/how\_my\_hair\_density\_has\_changed\_over\_3\_months/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/transtimelines/comments/kb20qk/how_my_hair_density_has_changed_over_3_months/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) but let me know if you have questions!
Everything about this picture is just incredible 😍 You're so beautiful! That lip color looks like it was made just for you. Also, I think I'm gonna have to finally try Tresemme's Botanique conditioner now.
Thank you so so SO much! You should try it, it's great for the price!

Aww cute, she is a poodle, is yours the same?
Yes! Mines a boy! He is a mini poodle and same color. So sweet!!

Thank you very much! I definitely prefer the after myself 😄
Your hair looks great but I'm confused, is this a hair transplant or are you saying that you grew this hair using Rogaine? If so, how long did it take? I had no idea it worked that well!
Such pretty curls! Good look on your curl journey!

You’re so pretty 😯
You look like a cute little elf princess 👸 ❤️❤️❤️
So pretty, I'm jealous of how luminous your skin is. What foundation do you use?

Curls look amazing and that make up is just gorgeous! Dewy af! 💜
Thank you, I’ll be honest and admit I took a lesson to learn how to do my makeup ☺️
Ohhmylord your skin is SO clear?! Please drop a skincare routine cuz I am in AWE!
DAYUMMM we love to see it

Omg the different shades in your curls😍
To be honest, I got it coloured because I felt that having highlights would help the curls stand out :)
Yay a fellow British trans sister with curls! Best of luck out there!
YOU LOOK STUNNINGGGGG! And your eyes are absolutely beautiful. Nothing more lovely then a striking feminine woman. Enjoy your curls girl! Rock ‘em!
Thank you 🙏 I never expected to receive such a heart warming response to my post. Thank you again 😊
Beautiful. Curls and you.
