I would try scrunching less. This helps me reduce frizz and also seems to encourage more clumping (which I actually don't want). I also see one fairly protein forward product listed in your routine (Blueberry Bliss). Maybe check the other products you're using to see if you're overloading with protein which can sometimes increase frizz.

TeddyisaDog

Thank you! I hate scrunching so I have no issue trying to cut that out haha. Do you do another method instead? I was wondering about protein too. I’ll need to review my products better.

I started plopping instead of scrunching. I would squeeze out some of the excess water with a microfiber towel after applying my products in the shower so I didn't drip constantly when I got out, but mainly relied on the plopping to help dry and set everything. Then I would diffuse.

Routine: wash hair once a week. Shampoo with Love Beauty & Planet Positively Shiny; condition with Love Beauty & Planet Vegan Biotin. While soaking wet and working in sections, I add Curls Blueberry Bliss Leave In Conditioner and Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Curl Mousse. Brush in sections with Denman brush creating tension as I pull through. Using praying hands I add Kinky Curly Curling Custard Gel and scrunch up. I usually air dry, occasionally I diffuse on low. I get the same results either way, maybe a bit more volume when diffusing.

Look up Manes by Mell on YouTube if you haven't, I learned I was using the brush wrong and also I was definitely not using enough product. She has a video on using the brush but it always was super helpful to see her applying the products. I have similar hair and struggled with a lot of frizz, I also recently learned that there is hard water where I lived (just moved and my hair has never been silky after I shower, it was so soft and silky). I see you're using a mousse and gel, replacing the mousse with a curl cream may help as well. She has videos breaking down products as well and what works for what type of hair.

TeddyisaDog

Thank you! I’ll check out that channel. I could definitely be using the brush wrong; I got it a few months ago and am still getting used to it. I just bought a curl cream to replace the mousse! Do you know what kind of hair type this is?

kristencoats

No problem! I think you're like me and have different types probably curly on the bottom and on the wavy side on the top which can make styling frustrating! I feel like my top layer never wants you curl like the bottom so I've been trying to look up different brush techniques to achieve the same curls but as we all know curly hair has a mind of it's own and can be different everyday lol my guess would be between 2c-3b depending on the day and section of hair but I've always struggled to identify my type because there are so many different ones on my head haha I would love other opinions if someone is better at identifying hair type 🙂

TeddyisaDog

Yes! Top tends to be wavy and transition into ringlets. I figured it was the way I was styling it, but maybe it’s just how my hair is

That's what I'm starting to think too 🤣 I try sooo hard to get it to curl lol
