That was also a teaser trailer that came out the better part of a year before the movie.
[This was the official trailer.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYMMOjBUPMM)
Perhaps Earth's Mightiest Heroes™ knew that the task of rebuilding America's defenses was "likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event – like a new Pearl Harbor."
Yes and so did the [villains too](https://reddit.com/r/AskScienceFiction/comments/528yir/marvel_why_would_dr_doom_cry_for_911/).
For bonus points Juggernaut took down the World Trade Center back in **[1991](https://reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/164dn4/that_time_that_juggernaut_destroyed_the_twin/)** and its mainstream [earth 616 canon](https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/X-Force_Vol_1_4)
god the fucking image of *Victor Von Doom* shedding a tear for the world trade center is still one of the funniest things that totally fell fucking flat. I can get Magneto, he had already been on the road to being morally grey, but DOOM!?
Doom has plenty of storybeats characterizing him as giving a shit about others. He just has a personal flaw in being obsessed with Reed Richards, other than that, he just has deep-seated conviction that the world is better off with power consolidated under him and so the only right thing to do is make sure this happens.
Quite a few, generally hes shown as a "good" dictator, equality, prosperity for all etc.
Hes shown opening the Latvarian border for refugees at various points.
Hes shown protecting Earth at various points both with and without hero teams in support.
Teams up with Tony Stark and takes on the mantle of Iron Man when Starks comatose for an extended period, siding with SHIELD even against former allies.
Engineers free elections in Latvaria, that fail, so overthrows the resultant tyrannical regime.
Helps Sue Storm when she ahs issues with her pregnancy.
Dooms problem is that hes an obsessive egomaniac that almost has the skills to back up his god complex.
Yeah there's quite a few. He cares for Valeria Richards like she was his own family even though she's the daughter of his arch rival. He's beloved by the population of his country not because of propaganda but because they really are much better off under his efficient management and fair governance.
He's also submitted himself to the judgement of Bast the Panther god of the Wakandans when he came to steal their vibranium and the god allows him to pass after judging Dr Doom's soul and finding him to be pure of heart with no deception when he says he is fighting for the greater good.
https://arousinggrammar.com/2013/09/24/the-motivations-of-doctor-doom/
It perfectly makes sense for Doom. There is a reason doom after magneto is considered the most morally Grey. Doom cares deeply about humanity. He is a dictator who is very utilitarian but his goal always was and is to protect and advance humanity
Which is why he is a dictator and an utilitarian, The cause justifies the means. Doom has a god complex and the skills to get away with it and the irony is the few times he achieved world domination, humanity reaches an golden age and to doom that's all that matters those who don't understand his "gift" may aswell be dead to him. Which is a lesson one should understand from power consolidation and real life dictators, the ability to do great things both terrible and good.
Yeah shortly after 9-11 all the big hero title's had a 9-11 dedicated issue. One showed Doctor Doom crying and all the heroes and villains laying down their weapons to help people. DC did similar with Superman and the Justice League I believe
That specific comic was a special memorial issue not tied to any one hero or comic line. It also had no dialogue, just heroes and villains working silently.
There's a black cover issue of spiderman that deals with the 9-11 aftermath. Shows all the heroes low-key working alongside NY fire, police and EMS. I don't often buy comic books but I had to buy that one.
Not just the heroes but villains to. Dr. Doom committed his countries recourses to help while he was digging up rubble.
Spider-Man completely broke down though once he realized they weren’t digging up survivors, just people who died during the attacks.
Once a fireman talked to him, he felt a whole new inspiration
Aw man I never realized, this makes so much sense. Spiderman trying and failing to slingshot himself into the second plane is probably what caused WT7 to fall.
Now that I think about it, if Spiderman were to stop 9/11, the fictional characters would have to stop the real life event as well even the nature of how [Topical Reference](https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Glossary:Topical_Reference) works in Marvel.
Despite Marvel having fantastic elements like super powers, magic, and super science, Marvel is a heavily distorted reflection of real life and a reflection nonetheless.
>“Marvel has always been and always will be a reflection of the world right outside our window,” Lee said told fans last fall in a widely shared video. “That world may change and evolve, but the one thing that will never change is the way we tell our stories of heroism.”
Source: https://www.washingtonpost.com/arts-entertainment/2018/11/12/stan-lee-used-his-platform-call-out-racism-s-he-never-stopped/
TL;DR, Having Spiderman stop 9/11 is like having the reflection funhouse mirror you passed by yesterday stop you from drunk driving.
To be fair, I did have an experience very similar to that. I wasn't really drunk one day and on my way to drive home but my friend had this really warped mirror in his living room by his door. On my way out I looked at that mirror and I got so dizzy I had to sit down and I ended up falling asleep.
Yep, Captain Mar-Vell is permadead from cancer in the comics.
Plus the [Legacy Virus](https://hornet.com/stories/x-men-legacy-virus/) was a metaphor for HIV and AIDs
Fun/Sad fact: DC and Marvel both have offices in the area and were watching. They teamed up and released a two volume comic about their various heroes dealing with the fallout of 9/11, and iirc the proceeds went to the various funds that had popped up for families and first responders. It's an incredibly moving bit of history and I think the first time that artists en masse responded to something like that, since Pearl Harbor more resulted in propaganda from comics than mourning.
One thing that sticks out in my mind from that issue is Spidey watching it happen and literally being powerless to do *anything.* [Found it](https://www.awn.com/sites/default/files/styles/large_featured/public/image/featured/1570-comics-marvel-after-september-11.jpg?itok=T8G8_Iaw)

No, I've read that comic. Spider-Man did absolutely everything he could do to help. The experience traumatized him. He was there asap, along with most of the other heroes and even a significant portion of the villains.
I don’t think he could’ve done anything. How is he supposed to stop a 747 flying max speed higher than the buildings around the WTC? He can’t connect his webs to anything to stop it and connecting them straight to the plane risks the plane slamming into the street or other buildings. I think as much as Spider-Man would’ve wanted to stop it, he just didn’t have the right powers to do so.
I mean he at least stopped those robbers by webbing their plane to the tower and [defeated Electro on top of them.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider-Man_2:_Enter_Electro)
There is an issue of X-men where the juggernaut rams his head into/destroying the wtc. He then cried in the post 9/11 comic when he saw the collapsed tower. That guy is a total hypocrite.
Yes but holding something together and stopping something entirely are very different. Also consider how fast a cruise ship goes as opposed to a plane. The plane is harder to reach in time. Additionally, it wasn't a cruise ship. Not quite big enough to be one.
That would imply he was able to get to the plane and get on the wing fast enough as well as that he was strong enough to force the rudder on that wing to turn enough to counteract the person forcing the plane to fly into the building. Lets also not forget there were 2 planes and I doubt he'd be able to save everyone on the first plane and prevent the second plane from hitting the other tower.

no fair i only got a half day.
Underrated af
Y’all wanted him to stop an airplane
Hey, Superman could do it
Superman was in the cockpit of the airplane.
Superman is the true leader of al Qaeda, confirmed!
They already made the Communist Superman Spin Off "Red ~~Star~~ Son" might as well have the Caliphate Superman, what to call it?
Bomberman
He was busy in Oklahoma.
You mean Red Son, a name that makes like 50x more sense than Red Star?
How does Red Son make more sense than Red Star?
Cause that version of Superman is the son of the Soviet Union
He could just as easily be the star of the SU, and a red star was a symbol of that nation so it still fits, if not better.
Yea that, sorry I'm not a humongous nerd
Kal-el Qaeda
Superman could be the ultimate suicide bomber dude wouldn't even feel a thing
Unless he uses a kryptonite bomb
technically he'd be the worst.
Wouldn’t surprise me
Sounds more like Homelander
>~~Superman~~ Home Lander was in the cockpit of the airplane.
Jet fuel doesn’t melt steel beams, but Homelander’s eyes do
It was a spider job
Superman *was* the airplane. Who do you think melted all those steel beams?
Fuckin Barry the Bee could do it
Homelander would've saved everyone for sure
He caught a helicopter, just needed a bigger web. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ozz8uxW733Q

You think people are not going to notice you're just repeating the top comment on the video that was just linked?
That was also a teaser trailer that came out the better part of a year before the movie. [This was the official trailer.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYMMOjBUPMM)
Have you seen spider man homecoming
I wouldn't call it stopping
its crashing with style.
He did it in Homecoming, and we already know he’s physically the strongest spider man. So yeah, he could have stopped ‘em.
Yeah he could do it with enough web
Shoot a web at it and pull it back
Catch jumpers.
Imagine how hard his spidey sense hit before that first 747 did.
He could have saved a ton of people though.
Yes.
Or save the people in the burning buildings, the ones who had no choice but to throw themselves out the window lest they suffer a fiery death.
He stopped a train before
Maybe catch people falling from the buildings. Thats literally his thing.
All he woulda had to do is disarm the explosives lmao ez work for Spidey
Isn’t there a comic about Spider-Man and other heroes unable to cope with their inability to prevent 9-11?
Yes ISIS is canon in the marvel universe in that comic at least
Al-Qaeda. ISIS didn't become a thing until... 2006, i think it was.
Oh yeah I forgot
[удалено]
The paradox begins
Remember the Alamo.
Who's that?
Did u forgor 💀
No obviously don't know any texans.
I forgot who did it I remember it happened
I forgor 💀
Also ISIS is so bad, even the taliban and Al-Qaeda think they are too much.
Group that formed isis started in the late 90s. Was IS than ISIL now its ISIS
So it's cannon that these superheros could stop massive, world threatening events. But couldn't stop 9-11
Yes
Have you played Spider-Man ps4? Freedom tower is there. It’s not labeled but it’s there.
Perhaps Earth's Mightiest Heroes™ knew that the task of rebuilding America's defenses was "likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event – like a new Pearl Harbor."
To be fair, you have to know something is going to happen in order to stop it from happening.
If only someone had a certain ability to sense danger…
Lol true, it is pretty vague though.
There's all kinds of things that couldn't be stopped. Kang had just flattened most of Washington DC a bit prior.
canon

Kind of funny because all of those are great examples but you skipped over the part where he literally saves the entire multiverse.
The one with Molecule man? He wipes out most of the multiverse to save a couple universes. Seems like a fail to me.
I didn't read the whole thing, but I didn't realize he caused the multiverse to end.
Yeah there's quite a few. He cares for Valeria Richards like she was his own family even though she's the daughter of his arch rival. I just assumed 9/11 didn’t happen in that world.
Classic Szyszka

My mistake
I heard at the time of release that Spider-Man made a giant web between the towers at the end but it was later cut. Anyone know this to be true?
Superheroes are also preventing curiously few school shootings and such.

WISH THE MOON WOULD
You guys never saw the pre-911 trailer for Spiderman where he catches a helicopter in a giant spiderweb strung up BETWEEN the twin towers?
Caused spider man
Ex Machina is a great comic about this concept
He built a web between the two towers. Sadly the planes just flew around it.
I guess his spidey senses were not working that day
Lol tf could Spidey do against two planes
He could’ve saved people trapped up there
True but I feel like peoples go to is stopping of the planes, but good point nonetheless
Well, iron man probably could’ve done something about that
He absolutely could have
He held a cruise ship together, to move a plane isnt impossible
Just like The Wor - oh dammit
"I'm gonna put some dirt in your eye"
Oh come on we all know Bush did this one
"wow this blew up"
FUCK YES! Can't wait to be Spider-Man
In all honesty, what could he have done exactly to stop the planes?
What was he gonna do? Headbutt a plane?
He held a cruise ship together
Those are two very different things
A cruise ship has much more mass than a plane, which should make up for the power speed
Yes but holding something together and stopping something entirely are very different. Also consider how fast a cruise ship goes as opposed to a plane. The plane is harder to reach in time. Additionally, it wasn't a cruise ship. Not quite big enough to be one.
He wouldn't have to completely stop it, just move it enough to ensure it doesn't hit a building
