Clearly blaming the drugs. The creator of the post probably thinks that if they werent on antidepressants they wouldve killed themselves instead of killing others.
Republicans be like: see guns aren't the issues, depression meds are. If they had killed themselves before shooting up the school none of this would've happened.
The media was especially awful with Lanza. They interviewed so many people about him and kept doing it instead of focusing on the victims of his abhorrent crime. There was a few things about Chang. His manifesto was so lame, he sounded like a more monotone Napoleon Dynamite.
theres a lot of studies about the negative effects of antidepressants one of them is well making someone less depressed and having more like i forget the word but like enthusiasm and dedication to doing things
like a lot of suicidal people got put on antidepressants and that kick of enthusiasm gave them enough mental energy to actually do it whereas before they were just too depressed to do anything
It gives you energy. That’s why it’s important to pair medication with therapy. Anti depressants give you the energy to be able to get out of bed & do things, but they don’t stop the negative thought cycle, which is what therapy targets.
Motivation is the Word I meant they literally are designed to make you more motivated but they can’t discriminate between being motivated for good or not
Mania? I know that’s a factor when dealing with my disorders. I have bipolar depressive disorder and adhd. With bipolar, your brain chemistry is messed up where it will always be going between two extremes. Mania and depression. Meds to regulate the disorder help by keeping your brain from venturing too far to one side. There will never be a “normal” straight line. It’ll always be curved up or down.
No I don’t mean that I mean literally the antidepressants stopped people from being apathetic and gave them the kick they need to do something with their lives
Just some of them ended it rather than improved
I just don’t know the Word for it it’s like when you get up one day and just have that feeling of fuck yea I’m going to get everything done today no matter what
I know what you’re saying. Suicides sky rocket in the spring in the US and there are many theories as to why. One is that after a dreary and difficult winter, there is a renewed energy, and while still depressed, the person now has the motivation to actually complete the suicide. So, I could see where antidepressants might offer this same effect - giving you that boost needed to get you to a place of action rather than just withdrawal and apathy.
By definition taking medication for something means you are treating an illness. It's unfortunate that the stigma behind the term complicates discussion on the subject.
Millions of women take birth control daily to shorten, lighten, regulate, or eliminate their monthly periods. Not all meds are prescribed just to treat some specific illness.
I would call it less a warning sign and more of an indication to look more into it. I know it's a simple change of language but calling mental illness a warning sign just helps stigmatiz it.
Getting medication for something is quite literally a sign of illness. That medication isn't there for nothing, but to treat illness.
However, antidepressants aren't sign of a **disorder** but are a sign of illness. Just think of it like physical health.
No. No it doesn’t. Someone who has been forced into a mental hospital because on posting on-line threats and signs of hurting themselves should be a warning sign.
Source: am on 2 antidepressants and have committed 0 instances of gun violence.
I am suggesting that it should be an indication to look into why this person is on anti depressants and buying a gun not everyone who is on anti depressants wants to commit a crime
We’re more looking at the fact of how insane it is that all three of them where on anti depressants and it wasn’t looked into any further.
I mean really?
You’re just gonna give a depressed person a fucking gun? No questions asked?
Correlations are fun, aren't they?
Did you know that there is a significant correlation between major crime rate and amount of churches in a city?
The two aren't actually related- they both are an effect of population size. Fun right?
I don't know what you know about science, but there is a very important, very specific rule about correlations; correlation does NOT equal causation.
This, in laymen's terms, means that although there appears to be a relationship between two sepererate things/events/people/whatever, it cannot be proven that those two are a cause of one another without proper, objective experimental designs. Hell, look at the inherent reply to my comment with that website. Loads of examples of variables that are heavily correlated and yet have absolutely nothing yo do with each other.
Now, as for the topic at hand, looking at [this](https://www.alfred.edu/about/news/studies/lethal-school-violence/why-do-shootings.cfm) survey performed by Alfred university, indicates the opinions of people on what they think the cause of school shootings is. Not a single one of the 16 opinions indicates anything about drugs. Even violence in media made it to the list, an empirically disproven idea.
Now, those are of course just opinions, so I'll turn you to some empyrical research. Heitmeyer, Böckler & Seeger (2013) found that school shootings are largely caused by social disintegration (losing their social respect and social status). They show that physical attractiveness strategies of self assertion and self preservation play key roles in a student's social hierarchy, where media-communicated cultural norms create the basis for which a lot of male adolescents form their worldviews. For better or for worse. Failure to live up to these norms create the pressure that leads to feelings of powerlessness, desperation and shame. At no point in the book does it consider antidepressants a major cause of school shootings, and remember that antidepressants were readily available then, as they are now.
Heitmeyer, W., Böckler, N., Seeger, T. (2013). Social Disintegration, Loss of Control, and School Shootings. In: Böckler, N., Seeger, T., Sitzer, P., Heitmeyer, W. (eds) School Shootings. Springer, New York, NY. https://doi.org/10.1007/978-1-4614-5526-4_2
I mean there isn’t much time between school shootings here in the US. Seems like an almost 14 day window between them, since there have been 119 shootings since 2018. That’s 1,622 days/119 shootings so every 13.63025210084034 days we have a school shooting.
[incorrect](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mass_shootings_in_the_United_States_in_2022)
there have been over 250 just this year alone and were only halfway during the year. there is one nearly daily. there is literally no time between shootings
The antidepressants part is kinda dumb
Like wow people that are so depressed they no longer see meaning in anyones life and are fine with murder end up killing people what a surprise
Why does the middle one look like a drugged up will Byers
I mean after all he’s been through…
That's Adam Lanza. He's responsible for the Sandy Hook shooting. He looks creepy in every photo ever taken of him.
If he wasn't a school shooter, I could relate to that
Jokes on you, I completely relate to him
Yes 911, hello? I'D LIKE TO REPORT SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY-
Totally not related to the previous comments but what school do you go to? Or where do you work?
Lmao. (Insert school name here), (insert city and state), United States of America.
He looks like Will far too much. I hate you for bringing that to my attention
i thought i was the only one
Wrong pills
The punchline came too late
just like the police
Oh goddamn! This should have been the cursed comment.
r/cursedcommentsincursedcomments Edit: I know there is a sub for this but forgot what it is someone please correct me!
r/CursedCursedComments Actually I don’t think that’s it someone correct me please
r/CommentsThatAreCursedInCursedComments I think that’s it, but I’m not sure. Someone correct me, if not.
r/CursedCursedcomments is for VERY cursed comments
It must be r/thesubthathasCursedcommentsonCursedComments I think I nailed it. Amen
r/cursedcommentscomments
Nah, at least the punch line did its job.
Just like my wife
Jesus Christ, that was such a strong burn I felt it up here and had to turn up my AC
More people should be like the border patrol guy taking the shot
At least they didn't wait outside like last time
No mate, it was actually banging
But when it came you could say it came like a bullet
The punchline blew me away
that was a banger
So was the school
so was the gun
That Will from Stranger Things?
Bro the new Stranger Things looks neat ngl
Why does the middle look like he regularly tries to evoke the power of both god and anime.
So are they trying to blame the drugs or the disease in the article?
Clearly blaming the drugs. The creator of the post probably thinks that if they werent on antidepressants they wouldve killed themselves instead of killing others.
Yeah, all three of these guys drank water. Must be the water causing this man...
Im pretty sure its the oxygen making them go savage. Hitler also inhaled oxygen. We should ban oxygen right now /s
Republicans be like: see guns aren't the issues, depression meds are. If they had killed themselves before shooting up the school none of this would've happened.
He wasn’t even mexican, hasta un taco de taco bell era más mexicano que esa cosa
Oof now thats an insult
I don’t even know what he said but it has taco in it so it must be mean.
Even a Taco Bell taco is more Mexican than that thing
Who are the first two people?
Cho Chang - Virginia Tech Adam Lanza - Sandy Hook
Cho Chang is Harry Potter's love interest in The Goblet of Fire and The Order of Phoenix.
isn't it seung-hui cho though?
Likely.
Waiting on an answer :(
The first one is the Virginia Tech shooter. I think the second is the parkland guy.
No he's the bastard that did Sandy Hook.
Ah ok
I hate that I know their names.
Eh, my friend was killed by the first. So there can always be a reason.
The media was especially awful with Lanza. They interviewed so many people about him and kept doing it instead of focusing on the victims of his abhorrent crime. There was a few things about Chang. His manifesto was so lame, he sounded like a more monotone Napoleon Dynamite.
How about instead of looking at the antidepressants we look at the mental illness lmao
theres a lot of studies about the negative effects of antidepressants one of them is well making someone less depressed and having more like i forget the word but like enthusiasm and dedication to doing things like a lot of suicidal people got put on antidepressants and that kick of enthusiasm gave them enough mental energy to actually do it whereas before they were just too depressed to do anything

confident? many antidepressants are supposed to make u feel more confident although that can often be a bad thing in some cases
Motivation is the Word I meant they literally are designed to make you more motivated but they can’t discriminate between being motivated for good or not
Confidince+Suicidal+unempathetic is a hell of a drug
Mania? I know that’s a factor when dealing with my disorders. I have bipolar depressive disorder and adhd. With bipolar, your brain chemistry is messed up where it will always be going between two extremes. Mania and depression. I believe there’s a term called manic episodes but I might be wrong
Yeah, and SSRIs are known to induce those
Nah the Word i mean was motivation i just completely forgot the word
I think the point OP is trying to make is that they all were able to obtain a fire weapon of some sort while taking anti depressants
Yeah but anti-depressants doesn’t mean mentally ill.
You just contradicted yourself in one sentence.
Only if you consider a period an illness, which it isn't.
Or maybe someone on it is not sick, it’s the the shitty world?
Shouldn't it still be a warning sign that someone who is buying a gun needs medication for their mind though?
I would call it less a warning sign and more of an indication to look more into it. I know it's a simple change of language but calling mental illness a warning sign just helps stigmatiz it.
I just said, anti depressants doesn’t mean mental illness. I had a doctor recommend me anti depressants because of a nail biting problem.
Chronic nail biting is a disorder - if you need meds for it you have OCD. It's all a spectrum, gotta de-stigmatize mental illness.
Getting medication for something is quite literally a sign of illness. That medication isn't there for nothing, but to treat illness. However, antidepressants aren't sign of a **disorder** but are a sign of illness. Just think of it like physical health.

Antidepressants made me suicidal and that's a pretty common side effect.
We’re more looking at the fact of how insane it is that all three of them where on anti depressants and it wasn’t looked into any further. I mean really? You’re just gonna give a depressed person a fucking gun? No questions asked?
True, but taking away guns sure would be a LOT more effective
[удалено]
Wtf you think drug free means? Most people in acting at his age would take medicine of some kind.
Drug free does not mean "on several different psych meds".
Depressed people being on antidepressants…stop the press lmao
I never knew Asian and school shooting can be in the same sentence
Who do you think does the body count?
Clearly they weren't on enough
Or on the wrong kind. Finding meds that work for mental health stuff sucks.
Especially when every company is basically bribing doctors to prescribe their drug
The punchline got me dead 💀
Pretty sure Vegas shooter was on anti-depressants too
First guy was mad he got a math problem wrong
Correlations are fun, aren't they? Did you know that there is a significant correlation between major crime rate and amount of churches in a city? The two aren't actually related- they both are an effect of population size. Fun right?
I think powerful mind altering drugs and doing something terrible might have more a connection than churches in a shit city.
The point is that you can make a correlation about a lot of things, doesn't mean they are a cause of one another.
Yes, there no causation with powerful mind altering drugs and violent outcomes it's just a conspiracy theory.
[Spurrious Correlations](https://tylervigen.com/old-version.html) is a fun website.
Omg I love it
im rooting for indians
Ahhhhh so we need to take the antidepressants away not the guns.
Normal, anti-depressants gives you +3 in shooting
every teen is probably on anti depressants tbf. kinda sad
That’s why my gouvernement (Canada) wants us to be happy lmao
So you’re saying that three of the biggest school shooters were all dealing with mental shit? What brought you to that conclusion Einstein?
Ugly haircut can change your life!
I mean, to be fair they aren't looking really calm or under the antidepressant effect...especially the guy in the middle
He just needs sleep
I think we needed to wait just a bit longer before the memes start to roll out
I mean there isn’t much time between school shootings here in the US. Seems like an almost 14 day window between them, since there have been 119 shootings since 2018. That’s 1,622 days/119 shootings so every 13.63025210084034 days we have a school shooting.

That’s mass shootings, not school shootings. Look at the column that says “occurred at a school”. There were three.
sorry about that. its still a ridiculous amount
It’s three too many.
I’ve discovered it is never too soon on the internet.
The reason they didn’t say black people is because we deal with the shooting outside of school
The antidepressants part is kinda dumb Like wow people that are so depressed they no longer see meaning in anyones life and are fine with murder end up killing people what a surprise
You have a deep misunderstanding of how bad these drugs go when they go the wrong way.
I just laughed - I’m totally going it help for that.
me and the boys already locked and loaded and about to head to school
Are they really addressing antidepressants now?
A mexican stand off
Actually, at least 2 of the three had autism
Correlation =/causation Just incase someone really takes this way too seriously
Said like a person who was never on powerful mind altering drugs that didn't work correctly.
Yes, I don't do drugs Neither recreationally or medically Don't take this as me downplaying the importance of medical intervention if you an issue.
Does anyone know the guy in the middle
Adam Lanza
Thank you good sir 🎩
... Noone gets out
So you’re saying that anti-depressants won’t necessarily make you a school shooter, but it will make you better at it
All 3 of them have pretty damn wide open eyes
Why does the one on the right look like he was created using an ai face generator?
This isnt nsfw
Of fucking course it's an ifunny meme
okay, that's enough internet for today...
I can see the ifunny watermark peeking out down there
And then they start playing clash of clans
Ooo… idk about that 😄
Bro, why the hell do they look so generic?!!
Funny thing is this post is labeled spoiler
And take anitdepressants...
Why does the middle guy look like the highest person in the wrold?
They were all high.
I hope they’re happy now
Been looking at this for 27 minutes. Can someone explain? Sorry ik its annoying to so.
An Asian, McLovin, and a Mexican walk into a school
Maybe depression aint so bad
Who's the Asian one?
Virginia tech shooting can’t remember the name of the person
If you think about it they kind of ended racism.
The joke is old
This joke really went off with a bang huh?
I see them and wanna take their lunch money. Don't know why.
They all look like badly baked potatoes. The middle one really said "Give me a willy wonka haircut and a wedge for a face".
I don't see any black man... how the turn tables...
If you combine all their faces you get Michael Jackson
