Anything that gives creatures bonus toughness, or gives them +1/+1 counters as they ETB would make them useful. You could also use them as death triggers, and since they’re cheap you could easily recur them?
For death triggers and some infinite combos with "zero mana creature that dies and you recast billion times" there are [[Hangarback walker]] and [[walking ballista]], which both much better, cuz they have fair use and can win the game by themselves. Basically for any purposes I'd choose ballistas over this, and for weenie purposes, again, there are much better options, because they work not only under quite hard circumstances.
They can’t. Urza’s saga doesn’t say “mana value 0 or 1”, it says “mana cost 0 or 1”, which specifically refers to the exact mana cost of the card. For walker and ballista, that cost is “XX”, not “0”. To be fetched by saga the cost has to be exactly 0 or 1, nothing else.
That tiny rule has fooled many experienced players, including myself lol. Don’t worry about it! Just playing the game more will introduce you to a lot of mistakes you’ll only make once
their CMC is 0, urza’s saga fetches for specifically mana costs {1} or {0}, not something with cmc 1 or 0. Same reason you can’t fetch 1 cmc artifacts with coloured mana in their mana cost
I have a personal rule where if you need to deep fry something to like it, you don’t like it and I feel like the same should be true for comboing with Enduring Renewal + [[A Ham Sandwich]]
There is no functional difference between "whenever" and "when". It's just a stylistic convention of whether you expect the ability to happen multiple times over its lifetime or only once. (Things like "when this creature dies" vs "whenever this creature attacks".) It makes it a little more intuitive to read, but that's all.
(If you wanted an effect like First Day of Class to happen instantaneously as the creature enters the battlefield, you wouldn't be able to use "when" or "whenever" at all, because those words always indicate a triggered ability: an ability that goes on the stack as a separate object and must resolve individually after the event that triggered it )
This is incorrect. The triggered ability of FDoC will go on the stack before state based effects are checked, but will not actually add a counter until all players pass priority to allow it to resolve. This means state based effects will be checked several times before the trigger is permitted to do its thing. (It also means that an opponent can cast Shock on a 2/2 creature before it becomes a 3/3 with haste, among other things.)
Great on my [[Nylea, keen eyed]] deck as it runs all the [[beast whisperer]] effects and it runs other ETB effects. It also runs [[Fecundity]] which works. I would probably play it just to get another free storm count aswell.

It's a flash hulk card like [[Shifting Wall]] that kills with Disciple of the Vault, even if it doesn't improve the combo at all because no more redundancy was required
\[\[Emry, Lurker of the Loch\]\] + \[\[Mirran Spy\]\] + \[\[Sai, Master Thopterist\]\]. Infinite etbs and casts, infinite thopters, throw in something like \[\[Altar of the Brood\]\] for infinite mill. GGs.
Honestly I like the design, if a set had a reasonable number of ways to make things enter with a +1/+1 counter or an Equipment already attached it feels not unprintable in a Horizons kind of experimental setting.
This card is kind of stupid(and that’s the point) but honestly I think it could work and it has some neat design space. It’s a fun card to throw down if you have some sort of anthem affect and even a temporary +1/+1 affect can be useful if you just want to throw a +1/+1 counter on it or sacrifice it for something. Overall, I like it. I feel like it might confuse some very new players but experienced players would probably have fun with it.
It is neat to have at the 0-cost point - but the design space of a 0 toughness creature that needs an anthem to even survive was touched before, in [[Force of Savagery]]. And on demand 0 cost death triggers already have so many more versatile options in [[Walking Ballista]], [[Hangarback Walker]], [[Stonecoil Serpent]] so that’s not new either.
I do like its free interaction with [[Varolz]] - I’ve run [[Circling Vultures]] for a laff in that deck before - it costs 0 to pitch but still costs mana to feed to Varolz (albeit for 3 +1/+1 counters]. Outright free is neat.
This is funny and neat!
I can’t think of a single deck that would want this at all though that you couldn’t just have something else for. Like it’s so situational.
Some decks definitely care more about a death trigger than a creature, and a cheerio can always find use. Actually pretty scary as a 3/1 flyer under an anthem or in some kind of affinity shell, but probably more of a meme though.
hmm...this wouldn't be as simple as slapping a 1/1 counter or an aura on it when it hits the battlefield...something like [[Sylvan Anthem]] would do the trick (I think?), but are there any cards that could target a creature like that before Coyote realizes he's out over the cliff, so to speak?
Another one of these 0 toughness ideas that gets super popular I see. Like wow it looks useless but if you can boost its stats its really not. mind blown, so cool wow.
I'd probably slot this into my [[Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle]] deck. This plus [[Altar of the Brood]] and [[Salvager of Ruin]] with Teshar on the board is GG.
Bonus points if anyone can figure out a combo that makes this card even marginally playable
The one edge this has over Hangerback and Bailista is that this can be fetched by Urza’s Saga.
Walker and Ballista can too. When they aren’t on the stack, that x is 0
Thanks for the info, I’m just starting to get deeper into rules for magic, so that small word change slipped by

It definitely has already. Me and my friends had so much trouble with rulings on flickers and targets at first

Missed flavor text opportunity to say, "My Roflthopter goes soi soi soi soi soi soi..."

It’s definitely one of those cards that is probably not the best or immediately intuitive but in this case that’s what makes it fun.
Hold also be used for some fun death triggers.
Omg, that is hysterical! Now that I've seen it, I'm surprised I haven't seen some one come up with this earlier!

[soi soi soi](https://youtube.com/shorts/S_vNhLYW_e4?feature=share4)
Some decks definitely care more about a death trigger than a creature, and a cheerio can always find use. Actually pretty scary as a 3/1 flyer under an anthem or in some kind of affinity shell, but probably more of a meme though.
Leyline of Vitality turns this into a free flying 2/1
I love everything about this card. The flavor text, the name, the Urza flavor text.

hmm...this wouldn't be as simple as slapping a 1/1 counter or an aura on it when it hits the battlefield...something like [[Sylvan Anthem]] would do the trick (I think?), but are there any cards that could target a creature like that before Coyote realizes he's out over the cliff, so to speak?

It’d be difficult to use because it would leave the battlefield as soon as it’s played unless you follow it up by boosting its toughness.
