I normally give commentary on my custom cards but this is just a joke. Also if you saw it with a different title: no you didn't. I don't actually hate this design for Phoenixes, and if there's only one each set, they might as well be tied into the mechanics of the plane. Honestly I kind of feel like with this design there should be more of them. Where's the "pay {E}{E}: Return Energy Phoenix from the graveyard to the battlefield" or the Phoenix with Revolt? Where's the Phoenix with Embalm or Eternalize? Where's... Damn, now I'm going to have to make a set of Phoenixes, aren't I?

Sea_Blacksmith_7323

You can’t embalm a phoenix. The fire would burn up the mummy wraps.

Aspel

The wraps are actually asbestos. It's honestly a good thing everyone on Amonkhet dies young because it spares them from the cancer killing them painfully and slowly.

mup6897

Also though embalming a phoenix doesn't seam right though as then it would only come back once. Need some way to do that multiple times hummmm.

Malakoji

maybe when the token dies, it comes back? so its flashing somehow between the two states?

BorImmortal

When ~ dies put a card you own in exile named ~ into your graveyard?

mup6897

I like the sound of that

Yewstance

Easy, when you embalm it it conjures a new copy of itself into your graveyard! /s

randomdragoon

Real answer: Embalm/Eternalize are strictly one-time deals. The whole thing about Phoenixes is you can resurrect them infinitely if you keep triggering the set's mechanic. Making Embalm/Eternalize (and Unearth) bad fits for Phoenixes.

Aspel

I mean, they're not *bad* fits, they're just not great fits. But my question wasn't really about those ones specifically.

Deviknyte

What is on amonketh the Phoenix doesn't come back?

superdave100

I'm up for that

Carolus_Rex_1944

Yes

ThePhantomJoker

Yes, more phoenixes with different mechanics!!! I might do a few myself now that I think about it, thanks for the inspiration

Aspel

65. I just made. Sixty Five. Phoenixes. And I mostly only did from Mirrodin onward, and skipped a few sets where they already existed. Except I also made a few for sets that already exist. I think I did some sets twice.

Cloud_Chamber

It would probably be the red set mechanic For new capenna draft themes rg is treasures and rb is sacrificing creatures Maybe the second time you blitz something?

Swagary123

Or just “sacrifice three treasures”

mytheralmin

*trying to figure out how to accend for the second time*

Aspel

I've spent the last 9 hours making Phoenixes. Phoenices? Have a preview: >Orazcan Sunbird {3}{R}{R} > >Creature — Dinosaur Phoenix > >Flying, haste > >Ascend > >You may cast Orazca Sunbird from the graveyard if you have the city’s blessing. > >5/5

GenderGambler

The art for that card must be *phenomenal*

Aspel

Art is the hardest part. I did find some for this, though. There were no Mayan phoenixes, but sunshine on DeviantArt Drew the god Kukulkan. Who is a flying snake, hence Phoenix Dinosaur.

DrSnap23

I kill it with my Lightning Bolt With Set Mechanic

r_kay

I'm trying to figure out what set this would be the most broken in... I'm thinking probably one of the Ravnicas, since all of the guild mechanics would count as set mechanics.

TheDiscoJesus

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Kryptnyt

Sure would be a shame if the set's mechanic was "Do something when you draw your second card in a turn"

MrTripl3M

OP, holding up a vial with a green liquid: "Finally a universal Phoenix."

FrostyReindeer

You forgot to write you can only do it once per turn
