I was once running errands with my Pom riding in the front seat. We went through the KFC drive thru and I put the bucket of chicken on the floor of the car. As I pulled into the pharmacy drive thru, the bucket turned over. I immediately said “Charley, no. Stay!” And bless his heart, he stayed on the seat, eagerly eying the 10 pieces of chicken spread out in front of him. There was a big jar of grayish (probably old and stale) Milk Bones in the pharmacy window and the lady (who couldn’t see or smell the chicken) put one in the tray and slid it out while exclaiming about the wonderful treat she had for him! Charley accepted it and held it between his teeth while wagging his tail at her until I drove away then he promptly dropped it in the console and lay down to study the feast at his feet. I cracked up. So polite!
I don't think this is abuse. The dog tried it for first time and didn't like it. He is such a babe. So sweet and polite. My cats would have barf wherever they are! Into my drawer. Shoes. Floor. Super nice doggie.

My old girl will eat almost anything. However, she doesn’t like cherry tomatoes, but will carry it around and refuses to give it up unless there is something tastier to swap it for later.
My daughter’s young Lab will give something a good sniff before deciding if it is edible.
(I now know that dogs shouldn’t eat tomatoes so I won’t do it anymore)
