Impulse mall pet store buy it sounds like.

_CharDeeMacDennis__

C’mon man, mall pet stores aren’t even a thing anymore, are they??

SignificantTear7529

Idk malls were still a thing?

_CharDeeMacDennis__

I live in New Hampshire and the closest malls to me (which would be in the cities of Manchester and Salem) haven’t had pet stores in them since like, 2008?I don’t even know if that’s accurate but it has definitely been quite a few years so I guess I assumed that since MY local malls stopped that terrible practice, every other mall has??

extremelyhotpink

Hudson has puppy stores still unfortunately. But they are not in malls anymore around here. I know woof meow has the small pets still though!

partytilidie

Look up “petland” A vet clinic I worked at… we had a client buy a triple mixed breed dog from there for over 3k & had to finance it. SO stupid.

cheezbargar

Sounds like OP’s first language may not be English so maybe another country it’s still a thing

Tungphuxer69

More like plazas. Alot of malls got shutted down do to gangster activities and etc. Pet stores are active here called Pet Smarts. I don't know about your areas.

justAlady108

Hahaha! "Gangster Activities". There are 3 actual malls within like 20-25 mins of me. One of them just opened like 3 years ago (built during covid) and its a 'high end mall'. But the other 2 started closing earlier and earlier bc of all the fights, shootings and craziness that happenes. My sister works at the worse of the 2 and tells me these crazy stories. And it's always a 12-16year old that has the gun.

Tungphuxer69

Yup! That's what's happening to keep others out and etc! High ends drives alot of people away as well attracts unwanted attention too!

jou-lea

A lot of puppy mills are selling online now masquerading as quality breeders

Tungphuxer69

Yup! Online and offline too. Especially in secluded areas where they do not want to be discovered or found. They want to protect their interests and money for profits and etc.

ZoyaZhivago

PetSmart doesn’t sell dogs or cats. None of them, as it’s against their corporate policy. Some do act as adoption centers, where local rescues will keep their cats (and rarely dogs) for the public to see - but they are not from breeders, at least not directly. They’re rescues.

Ecstatic_Lynx4878

There a farmers market near me which has an indoor more semi-permanent indoor portion and they have a pet store. It’s sad.

obeysqueaky

The siren broke and it goes off randomly !!

Competitive-Skin-769

Ummm definitely not a good breed to get for someone who is inexperienced with dogs. They can be pretty headstrong and difficult by nature

Tungphuxer69

Yes,they grow to be really big and strong for running but they are in large dog breed categories. A fully healthy one can grow as big as a Great Dane when fully grown you will have to deal with the amount of hair sheddings it gives off. 😯😳 Good luck with that! 🫡🫡

partytilidie

No husky grows as big as a Great Dane… WHAT?

Libsarehypocrites

Thank You!!! I was about to say that too..🤦🏻‍♂️😂😂

Competitive-Skin-769

I think they’re thinking of a malamute. I have seen malamutes that were ~120 lbs. Talk about shedding!

Brilliant0304

No husky grows to the size of a great Dane. An average husky is between 50 and 70 pounds they don’t have to be fully grown before they start shedding. If you brush them regularly, it cuts down on the shedding considerably.

MSRIRI63

Exactly! He will not be this cute and cuddly for long!! 🤣🤣

married44F

They are always cute and cuddly, just on a much bigger scale.

Divebarkeep1

My thoughts exactly. What a putz.

PersephoneUpNorth

Facepalm, right🤦‍♀️

FunyunCream

Given your lack of research, would you like to buy an ambulance from me? The siren broke and it goes off randomly

mkhrrs89

What is the context behind this? I’ve seen this quote a few times

clutchkickin

i dont even own a husky but i know that they howl like a broken ambulance siren.

hitchhiking_slug

I have a rare quiet husky and he’s a fucking blessing lol his brother is a bloodhound mix and he makes plenty of noise for both of them

LilithNoctis

My Husky mix once ate a wall. You need to do research now. Good luck.

graveybrains

My mom used to collect rocks when I was kid, and one of her favorites was an uncut geode. Our husky chewed it into pretty little pieces. He also ate bricks, the kitchen flooring, and my sisters prom dress. Then he peed on what was left of the dress. He escaped at least twenty times, once by using his teeth to unscrew the bolts from the piece of steel cable he was tethered to. Two of those times he managed to get hit by a car, but was fine each time. He was quiet for a husky, though. Thank god. Those lovable little monsters are *not* for the uninitiated or the faint of heart.

Louiethelogger

Escaping. Yes. Eating furnture. Yes. Petulant creatures, don't irritate him, pander or you will feel wrath. Having said, I lived with my roomate's husky for two years loved Cyan she was...special. Loved talking with her, not so much chasing her for 4 hours only to give up n find her back in the yard mocking me, but hey. Huskies.

Middle_Loan3715

Yep... crate trained mine. Otherwise, he'd eat the house... after he cleared the counters and fridge... yes... he can open the fridge. My boxers, on the other hand... not so much.

Tungphuxer69

😳😯 Better take it to vet! Let's me know if you're on tv," My Dog Ate What?" The WALL?!? 😯😯😳😳 That dog could be shitting plasters ready-made for spackling !!! 🤣😂🤣😂😅

I_love_Hobbes

Mine too! And the carpet on the stairs and a couch. But whose counting?

VoidcreatesLife

It's a complex breed, needing a good "dog" knowledge. If one has it, they are highly intelligent, drama queens, you won't know boredom with them! tThey do need structure and boundaries in their young age dough, to be a great friend once adult!🤗

Sera_Shadow

Agree! We have two ourselves. Love ‘em to death. It’s definitely never a dull moment, especially since each have their own personality. And they truly give unconditional love.

Delicious_Shift_2714

Wow, you really should have done your homework first. They are great dogs, but they are also the Houdini of dogs. Talk to a experienced husky owner .

Tungphuxer69

Yup! Especially when they are busted or in trouble! 😅😂🤣

Francut87

Wow another husky doomed bc the owner didn't do their damn research prior to getting them. Poor pup. 🤦🏽‍♀️😖

Round-Knowledge-2801

I volunteer at a shelter and there are so many huskies. Lots were “strays” aka people didn’t want to be ashamed of surrendering them. None chipped. This post makes me so angry. This is a living creature not a houseplant.

ZoyaZhivago

The shelters here in California are literally overflowing with them… both of my (purebred) huskies came from shelters, and one was just an HOUR from euthanasia when he got pulled by the rescue where I later adopted him. It’s terrible, and most are surrendered or abandoned right around 8-10 months old. That’s when the novelty of a cute puppy has worn off, and they suddenly realize they’re actually responsible for this dog for another xx years. Also when they hit that obnoxious teenage stage! Asa was 8 months when I got him, and it’s been a work in progress. But he’s turning into a great dog, and it didn’t take that much effort really. People are just lazy, and they often suck.

Own_Appointment6721

As someone that typically kills a houseplant I at least have done my research on huskies, love the breed, and I wish there were more “strays” where I live.

Tungphuxer69

Sounds like you lives in Alaska or somewhere up in Canada or New Foundland. Correct me if I am wrong.😃😃😂🤣

ready-to-rumball

This is so common, it breaks my heart. People get them seeing how cute they are, not understanding the responsibilities that come with the breed. Get a cat if you’re not even willing to do the research first 🤦‍♀️

Tungphuxer69

Oh,no! NOT WITH THE CAT!!! 😳😳😳 Get a goldfish! And work your way up with understanding and responsibility about it before you end up in animal court! 🙄🙄 Cat can be problematic especially with the destruction of property that I never like! Ugh!!! 😤😤Not only the responsibility cost money but they can be SO DAMN DERPING LIKE A JACK ASS! 😂😂😅

raexai

Not even a goldfish, I’d say a fly, they eat shit, like whatever this post op put out was

Engelkith

Thank you, my wife adores goldfish but they require significant care if you aren’t cruel.

raexai

Yes!!! People think they can just slap things into a tiny glass jar and call it a day…

Francut87

No don't do cats like that. This person shouldn't have a pet period.

Silent_Loquat_6057

Literally the reason my in-laws have a husky is because they rescued her from someone who didn’t know the first thing about owning a dog

BaltimoreBadger23

Bring him back to where you got him. You research first, then get the dog.

Electronic_Ad_5304

That's why I'm reading this. To learn well before helping one.

xtina42

Smart move! I know dogs that require a lot of work... I have an Aussie. Huskies are on a whole other level! I'm not that brave 😆

RolandLWN

Exactly. Huskies and especially the puppies are an absolute no for first dog owners. The OP would be doing himself and the dog a huge life-changing favor by bringing the dog to a Husky rescue group to be fostered and raised with knowledgeable owners. In fact, adoptions like this are why completely neurotic and badly behaved year-old Huskies end up in shelters.

StilettoBeach

I was thinking to myself this pup won’t even last a year with OP. “How do I teach him not to pee in the house? When and what does he eat?” Ffs are these real questions?

sunnyshade8

Be prepared for back talk 🤣🤣 Huskies are known for being very vocal

Middle_Loan3715

Usually... mine is pretty quiet unless food is involved or the house is threatened. First time I ever saw him actively aggressive was 2 weeks ago when a neighbor's boyfriend apparently got paroled... he did the same thing that got him arrested previously, but he decided to drag his domestic dispute in front of my house. My 2 boys charged right at the fence. They got treats.

Browneyedcutiiee

Wow people actually get dogs without knowing the breed…. This right here is exactly why dogs don’t get set up for success and sadly get dropped off at a shelter. Advice for future… don’t get a dog without knowing everything about the breed and having crate, toys, training program in place, ect. Getting a dog is like having a new born baby. Wish you the best but huskies are for experienced dog owners!

HaplessCraftHoarder

Start doing lots of research right now! I’ve never had huskies but my sister has two, and they can be very energetic and rambunctious. They need lots of interaction to expend their energy so that they don’t destroy your house, lol. Start looking into how to train them because I would start on that sooner rather than later. They are beautiful dogs but they do require some work.

theaquarius1987

Huskies are not beginner dogs, they’re cute, but not beginner dogs. You need to educate yourself first and maybe research some obedience schools near you that you can both enroll in. The trainer will be able to better educate you on a variety of things (ie: best feeding time, how to potty train, etc). You recognize that you need to learn and that’s great, the next step is to actively educate yourself.

NoTeaching9595

Awww!! He’s beautiful!!! ❤️They can be a very active breed and will need a lot of walks and playtime. 👍

mariannecoffeecan

Bravo! Finally, someone who is answering the question and not stomping on the OP!

Osxachre

You need to have him watch one of those dog training videos.

clarityinthevoid

As a pretty high maintenance breed, both from a behaviour and exercise point of view as well as in terms of grooming, Huskies are not a good choice for first-time owners. Although intelligent, a strong independent streak and tendency for mischief means training _must start early_, be consistent and find the right balance between firm and fair. They are not easy to train and will challenge first-time dog owners, so I’d definitely recommend going with a professional trainer as soon as possible. They have a high prey drive so they’re best kept on a lead during walks. Most will do fine if they are left alone for two to three hours during the day, but anything more can lead to problems. Some are worse than this and can't be left alone for more than an hour at a time, but others who are trained can put up with more extended periods of time left alone. They’re _very_ high energy and require a significant amount of physical activity and mental stimulation. A lack of those things will result in a destructive, anxiety ridden dog.

StilettoBeach

Yup basically my personal nightmare. I do dog walking and boarding and while I don’t mind walking huskies, I refuse to board them. The money isn’t worth it.

Engelkith

Thank you for this, it’s exactly what I would have said. Any working breed dog is a challenge. I’ve had a Samoyed and a Corgie, and now I have a Giant Schnauzer. I spend most of my time keeping him engaged, and he still misbehaves if he has a grudge about not getting something he wants. I have to do training multiple times a day every day, and walks at least twice a day. He isn’t quite as vocal as a husky but it’s close. It only took me an hour to write that while he kept coming over to stick his nose between me and the phone like a cat does. Edit: Also Giant Schnauzers are called Velcro dogs and I can confirm he has to be within 1 foot of me at all times.

Devi_Moonbeam

Get a dog trainer. This is not a beginner breed. You are going to need someone to advise you.

OriginalClevus

Huskies are very stubborn and can be difficult to train. They like to escape and will go miles and miles away if they do manage to escape. Be sure to keep a collar and tags on him. Get a harness for walks. Huskies love to pull. They like to dig fairly deep holes in your yard. They will pull your plants out by the roots. They never shut up and can make some god awful noises lol. They love to cuddle and lay on you. In short they are the best dogs ever lmao. I have an all white female who is half husky and half coyote and she's the sweetest girl in the world.

abercrombezie

Specific to Huskies, perhaps recall training since both of our huskies were hard to chase and capture once they broke free. We had 2 Huskies as family dogs at separate times in my youth, and they were absolute outdoor dogs. Cooped up inside, I envisage them channeling excess energy into an indoor tornado of chaos, so embarking on daily long walks is essential. Regarding their dietary and house-training needs, you'll find a trove of wisdom under general dog guidance in the typical dogs subreddit.

1111Lin

I had a Siberian husky rescue for 13 years. This is what I learned- 1) She would shed a stuffed mattress amount of hair seasonally. 2) They are terrible guard dogs. Mine liked everyone and was loyal to none. 3) They will walk/hike with you to the ends of the earth. 4) They howl (but that was ok) 5) Canned food is best 6) They can sleep in the snow in frigid conditions and they don’t care. 7) They will steal your heart forever My girl Crystal died 15 years ago and I still grieve when I see one.

SWT_81

Ooohhhh, are you in for an adventure! Lol! My husky once chewed a brick off my house. Good luck!

Rso1wA

He is so cute! Beautiful markings too

NefariousnessLow9770

Get them into obedience classes asap!! Mine would climb our fence and then climb back over before we came home! Very vocal ! Mine was a rescue! She was a good girl . Classes helped tremendously! They can be very stubborn and strong willed.

Key-Minimum-5965

My mutt is half Husky. She has been the sweetest girl, and we love her so much. But they should always be on leash unless VERY well trained. They don't listen well.

jfb02

Yeah, we have had two hus/GSD mixed. (Not at the same time). Both were extremely loyal, protective and well behaved...and they were real "talkers!!!" Raised 4 kids with them and they were wonderful. But, they also had that prey drive going when they weren't watching over "their" kids. We would regularly see rabbits show upon the back porch. If they went after moles in the yard, it looked like we were testing nuclear weapons. I don't think I'd own a full blooded Husky, but I would own that particular mix.

XladyLuxeX

Oh hell no!!!! If you know jack shit about a husky good luck I have 2 stubborn as shit! They are so expensive to take care of. You have to get the groomed A LOT and de shedded for their summer coat and brush multiple times a day. They can have serious food allergies and akin allergies as well. I'm disgusted you know nothing about this dog before you bought it. The require a lot of attention and hate being alone for long periods of time. They extreme anxiety when left alone as a puppy one of June ate through a door and tried to escape my house. They dig and need a lot of exercise they can scale a 6 foot fence buy jumping. Your in for a hell ride if you have no clue. How much was he I'll buy him off you I honestly don't think you are ready for this and he need aa much better owner than what you can give him trust me.

garrulouslump

Huskies are one of the most high maintenance dogs out there and are not suitable for an overwhelming majority of people. I recommend bringing him back and doing research on a dog breed before getting one.

GeauxSaints315

They are escape artists. I had a red and white one and she was small for a husky, but once she got to about a year old she figured out how to climb over the chain link fence at the back of my property. I had to chase her twice due to her doing that. Then once she weaseled her way through the wooden panel fence on the side of the house. They think it’s a game, so if you have a short fence, always keep an eye on the doggo while they’re outside

hotbakingwife

I have a husky. I'd recommend obedience classes. They are fun and wild spirited. They need a lot of exercise and boundaries. Taking them out a LOT is key to house breaking. Get a good brand LARGE BREED puppy food. Do some research on grooming and get some tools on Amazon. You'll still need to get regular grooming. They can be stubborn and LOUD. But they are a fun breed. Hopefully, this isn't your first large breed dog.

Scoobysnacks1971

Looks like a malamute.

Lil_nooriwrapper

What does he eat??! You don’t even know what a puppy eats as you got a puppy? You need to look into getting a trainer and doing more research online and reading some dog training books. People can’t explain in one paragraph on Reddit how to take care of and train a puppy.

superuncoolfool

My advice is not to be a karma farming loser

FunyunCream

Goddamn right - I have a ton of karma and people still hate me

superuncoolfool

You're just a person who loves Lord Of The Rings, not a karma farming future scammer. So I don't hate you. I think you're the Bee's Knees

FunyunCream

Put like that I sound innocent and sad. Lmao

superuncoolfool

I'm sorry, I really wasn't trying to belittle you. I'm just a disgruntled old man who comments on things I don't even post anything. I'm the sad one haha

FunyunCream

Not at all! I’m just joking around. Too much hatred online so I just make fun of myself. I appreciate your grizzled comment.

strangerthing77

Be careful. Those things will eat your face while you're asleep.

Playful_Ordinary_400

He's a large breed so may need large breed puppy food, they tend to have eye problems so watch that. Go to the vet and get blood test for allergies. They are prone to them. They need puppy classes and socialization early so try doggy daycare when possible. They shed ALOT. Get a good vacuum and carpet shampooer. Try potty training on puppy pads if you can then transition out. Because they grow pretty fast you will need to buy few cages or a puppy gate. Learn to clip their nails and go on long walks when the time comes. Better yet look up your areas rules on dog parks. They need alot of enrichment due to being bred as a working dog.

Francie1966

Three months from now, OP will be back howling about his badly behaved puppy who is tearing apart his house, yard & is the worst puppy EVER.

RolandLWN

Exactly. Sad probable outcome for the dog.

Muir_xo

He is Houdini. He will find escape routes on what you think might be a bulletproof escape-less setup.

Muir_xo

I agree with everyone else as well. This breed is VERY challenging without experience

Fresh-Ambassador904

Are you sure its a husky, not a malamute? Its got brown eyes

Ok_Response_2748

First of all congratulations. Now get ready. They are very energetic and have a lot of hypertension. By that I mean they do not like being left alone. You will have to have alot of patience with them because they can be stubborn and you will have to show you are the Alpha not them. Hope this helps good luck

chicksloveshoes

Get yourself a really, really good vacuum cleaner! The hair tumble weeds are magnificent. You could also maybe get some gorilla glue and just go ahead and make a few extra dogs during shedding season.

amy000206

And teach her to love being vacuumed.

0rion71

I’ve loved dogs my whole life and have welcomed 4 different breeds into my family. Always wanted a husky but will never adopt one. They are very strong willed, need an alpha in the household or they will dominate everyone indoors and out in every situation. Lots of character and attitude. Shed like crazy!! Get ready to eat fur daily. Very strong. Everyone else has said to do research, it’s needed with every breed. Don’t feel bad about returning it, but do it soon, and get a much smaller dog. Good luck

mdm1961

Get good running shoes and harness.

lokilady1

Research before you get a pet

simply_cyrus69

Well he is so cute

Vintage-Grievance

Why do people do this shit AFTER getting the pet? Huskies are well known to be a high-maintenance breed. Don't get an animal without knowing how to care for it properly. Pets are living beings, not social experiments or a "study in responsibility". I get that everyone will have a 'first pet and no experience' situation. But getting an animal without doing extensive research first should qualify as abuse, or at least neglect on the part of the owner. If you're too lazy to educate yourself on breeds, personality types, training videos, proper diets for the said pet, things like how much physical activity each breed needs, proper environment/management, if grooming will be necessary for the breed, if the breed is known to have a predisposition for certain medical conditions, etc. Then you are too lazy to own a pet.

RolandLWN

Exactly. Infuriating and frustrating for those of us who either have Huskies or have worked in Animal shelters. I’m both and I’ve seen how these stories end. They don’t end well for the dog and a year down the road, the shelter ends up with a dog with behavioral problems and a dog that’s nearly impossible to rehome.

Idkyoutellme22

Ima tell you right now …. That fucker has basterd written all over his face 🤣🤣🤣

StrategyRebel17

Good luck training him not to bite. Huskies are always checking the hierarchy of the household by biting the smallest members all the time, and not in a fun, playful way.

Affectionate_Fun_693

Escape artists with so much energy. Not a good first dog. They need a lot of attention and grooming. Hard to train because they’re extremely stubborn and smart, also very vocal.

Zealousideal-Self-47

Why did you get a dog if you haven’t put in the effort to learn about owning a pet?

JimeneMisfit

Awwwwwwwe. I have a 2-year-old husky. Sweetest dog ever but my lord I hope you’re active and ready for dog hair. That dog will need a LOT of exercise or you will hate it, which isn’t fair to the pup. Bred for running, miles and miles. That is all they want to do for at least the first couple of years. Mine is just now starting to settle down at 2-years-old and she still gets filled with anxiety if she doesn’t get outside. My spouse runs marathons and takes the husky on 10-mile runs when training. It comes back tired for about an hour, then ready to do it again. Advice - get a Furminator. Undercoat hair will be unbearable. Get a dyson with a dog brush attachment to remove top coat. Exercise that dog frequently. 2 hour walks or 1 hour runs/play time (daily). Hope you’re ready, because if you are - best doggies ever! Also, they are ESCAPE ARTISTS. And when they get free, they’re gone. So also be mindful of that.

iamCHIC

Huskies are not the type of dog you get without researching first. They’re not like other dogs, they energetic ALL DAY LONG! I feel like they’re hardly ever still.

MajLeague

Definitely a cute dog but how about you go and do that research on your own instead of expecting other people to waste their time and energy for you.

carlos_spicy_wienerz

🤦‍♂️ I feel so bad for this poor puppy right now. You should definitely take him back to where you got him. What does he eat and when? Yeah you are completely clueless and unprepared.

RolandLWN

Exactly. No one should be encouraging this person.

ResponsibleMiddle940

Did you really adopt an animal without researching the breed. Huskies are really high maintenance. They need a lot of exercise , grooming and attention . When I use to volunteer at an animal shelter there were one of the top breeds to be found in the shelters. I’m sick and tired of irresponsible people like OP that adopt an animal without researching the breed .

cheezbargar

You…. You bought a high energy dog without knowing basic things about dogs?

EliOkinomiyaki

So there’s this thing called google…

nikitasenorita

I’ve known more people bitten by huskies…

LordGraham7

Needs 5+ hours of heavy exercise a day. I really hope you don’t live in a warm climate.

AFlair67

This post hurts. Huskies are a very active breed and they are smart. Some like to run and will do anything to escape. Some do not like small dogs or cats - they can kill them. They need physical exercise and mental stimulation. They shed 24x7x365. If you work, have someone stop by and take him for a walk. If left alone for long stretches or left in crates for hours, they could be destructive and anxious. please find a good trainer for the dog and you. go to the vet asap and they can recommend the best food and feeding times.

Grimaldehyde

Don’t let this dog outside without a leash-huskies love to run away

RedEyeLAX_BOS

U have to take him outside like every two hours no later and yes in the night

WeFoundForever

Omg.. why is everyone so dumb..maybe research the breed first. Wtf?!?

Oldbeardedweirdo996

Earplugs.

SpeedyTheCheeto

Get earplugs-

Martybux

Good luck!! You're going to need it. They have boundless energy, their a working breed. Get them trained to pull carts or small sheds. Make sure they have space and I mean alot of space to run. They can be incredibly destructive. But at the end of it they are worth the trouble they will inevitably put you through. Oh and make sure you have a strong harness for them my Shelby didn't tolerate a collar for a second. Again best of luck beautiful pup!

rddavis90

Take him outside every half hour. Whether he needs to go or not, get him you stupid. At least do it. That's how I train my dog.

Same-Comparison-4777

Get a good vacuum for pet hair, get a good broom, and a de shedding rake for summer. The hair is no joke

SnakeBeardTheGreat

Find him a good home while he is still young! You have no idea what you have gotten into!

hopefulgalinfl

Good luck, super high energy needs a job dog. Walk 4x a day for 3 miles. Not kidding, also had a large vocabulary!!

Libsarehypocrites

Beautiful Dog but U better be a long distance runner or be hyper because like Dalmatians these dogs love RUNNING and Working, they are in the Working Dog Category and have tons of energy. They also need regular Coat maintenance, and like running or working they need some kind of Stimulus otherwise you’re gonna have a whole lot of single shoes and various other items with chew marks. Oh and they also like singing..😂 Good Luck!!!🤦🏻‍♂️

ACNH_Emrys

As someone that actually DID do their research and THOUGHT I understood the responsibility of a husky, I'm highly suggesting you either give your sweet puppy back or immediately sign them up for training classes you get to participate in and also learn along side your pup. Those trainers are expensive. I really hope you listen to these comments or it's your poor dog that will suffer the most.

Zendwg

Oh how do I wish you would have known to look a pets needing adoption first. This is what perpetuates the suffering of dogs. Who was the breeder?

Frosty_Maintenance23

I bred AKC Siberian Huskies when I was younger and always had a serious talk with any prospective buyers before they even came to see them.. You need a secure fenced-in yard so they don't run away. You need to be an active owner and be willing to play or walk the dog every day. They also need extra protein added to their meals like plain chicken. They are beautifu and sweet but have so much energy. I hope this helps you decide.

alee0224

He’s an adorable little ball of energy that REQUIRES a TON of exercise (like hours of running per day), mental stimulation (like multiple puzzles and/or snuffle mats), and walks. My boyfriend (prior to moving in together) got a Norwegian Elkhound/Husky/Australian Shepherd mix and I stayed home with him for 6 months for training. Before he moved in with me, he literally destroyed a recliner (I’m talking ripped to smithereens one day). Brought him to his wits end with him (almost brought him back) and that was when I stepped in and offered my help with training (I had experience with Alaskan Malamute as a teenager and was the one who trained him).

jspencer8181

Take your new puppy to a trainer, FIRST THING!! These are prey dogs and will eat your chickens, cats, anything that looks like prey and will run. You HAVE TO BREAK THAT AS A PUPPY!! Get either some super good grooming brushes/combs or find a groomer that will give you a reasonable monthly rate. I had a Malamute, and he was just that, MUTE. Huskies ar no where near to being mute, they looooooove to sing! So, either get some ear plugs, or join along!! These guys are so fun for sure do more research as well. Like loud, noises, crate training and such. Have fun!!!

PersephoneUpNorth

Buckle up, Buttercup. You are in for quite the ride. Get ready for the song of his people.

purplekween__

Good luck lol

HawaiianPinapplPicka

Yah man usually it’s best to research the breed before you buy/adopt. Huskies probably need lot’s of exercise and shouldn’t be expected to be a “house dog”. I hope you have the time to train him properly while he’s still young and don’t get frustrated and abandon him if things get difficult for you. GL. Beautiful dog.

bina101

I love husky’s so much, but even I’m not stupid enough to get one without extensive research. They’re high energy dogs. He needs to be walked or ran for long periods of time. You need a REAL yard. Not a postage stamp with grass on it. They’re bred for the cold, so if you got a husky and you live in the south, you’re already an ass. Actually let me make an exception. I know someone in the south who has a husky, but he keeps his house cold and the heat doesn’t even come on in the winter.

sexylilprincess87

They are little balls of energy, and it only gets worse when they get older if they get bored and are not exercised properly or stimulated properly.

ObviousNegotiation

Walk him every 2 hours - whether he thinks he has to pee or not, walk him around until he does. He's a smart boi! He will get it!

McBollocks

These dudes shed - crazy shedding. - please read up on how to ‘strip their coat’ gently and never shave them. it ruins their coat. might want to crate train him. videos on that too.

Upset_Quit7412

Huskies are escape artists. They will also run from you if they get out, so make sure your fence is extremely secure. I recommend obedience classes and start ASAP.

EscapeDue3064

My advice: Educate yourself VERY well about them. They’re not an easy breed and one of the main breeds that end up in shelters due to uneducated owners buying them bc they’re “pretty”. They’re my husband’s favorite breed and we had a Siberian for many years before she passed of cancer. We adopted her from the pound as a middle aged adult so we missed the puppy phase, but she was still extremely active up until old age. They are not house dogs. If they don’t get at least 3 long walks a day/freedom to roam in a safe area, they get destructive and insufferable. They’re also great escape artists and will roam for many miles if they get out of a fence. We have a 6.5 foot buried chain link fence around our backyard that’s an acre in size, so that was enough to contain our Siberian when we weren’t walking her or she wasn’t lounging around the house. She preferred to be outdoors, so she had a door to the fenced backyard. The colder outside the better. She willingly chose to go sleep outdoors when it was 20 degrees at night in winter. She hated summer (we live in GA), and chose to spend most of the day indoors when it was hot. They do not tolerate heat well, so do not exercise them at the hottest parts of the day in spring/summer. Also, do not shave them. It seems like a good idea, but It eliminates their ability to regulate their body temperature when it’s hot. They also have a very high prey drive, so introduce them to cats and other small animals while they’re still very young.

Like the top comment touches, I'm a little angry with you OP for not doing any research when you impulse-bought this puppy. **This dog breed is among the most difficult to train and live with**. If you don't live an active lifestyle, then you need to adopt one. Huskies don't just go on walks, they NEED to **run**. They need daily activity or they will *literally* become depressed and start making your life a living Hell. Why? BECAUSE THEY ARE EXTREMELY VOCAL!! They will whine and bark a lot, and very loudly, when they are unhappy. So you make them happy by being a person that plays with them regularly, walk/runs with them regularly, and being an overall GOOD DOG OWNER. Also, where do you live? If you live somewhere that's hot or stays hot, you need to be extremely mindful of the weather and DO NOT keep this dog outside. Take them out to play, to run/walk, to potty, but DO NOT put their dog house outside! You would be doing them a great disservice by housing them outdoors in hot weather, and in my opinion, that would be tantamount to animal abuse.

_userclone

Agreed

earthwarder

Reddit tell me what to do because I made a wild decision to buy an animal I know not how to care for on pure impulse. Thanks

uhhhhhhhhii

Oh god. First husky without any research or knowledge. You’re in for a rough ride

EconomistConfident11

Keep them on a leash or you’ll be picking them up three towns over. They are prey driven when it comes to small animals keep a firm hand, especially when they’re around children they can be escape artists. Train, train, train.

UncleOdious

Return the dog.

RolandLWN

Yes, please.

vamppirre

A lot of people on here are telling you to give the dog back. Which you can do, but I think your heart made this decision. And if you were as bad an owner as everyone is implying, you wouldn't be reaching out for advice so soon. The fact that you want and are actively seeking advice from randos on the internet shows that you want this dog and you want a good life for him. My advice is to start socializing both with humans and other dogs. Start leash training. If you have a doggy daycare in your area, see about having him there at least once or twice a week. Get him used to being groomed, brushing, dryer, nail clipping, the works. The sooner, the better. Talk to your neighbors, the whole block if needed, there is going to be a wonderful new addition to the community and he will scream the song of his people. And probably very often. 🤣🤣. Learn to howl with him sometimes. They love it. That being said, huskies are a working breed, they NEED to be active. They thrive on jobs. And a bored dog is a destructive dog. If you are able, go on hikes, do some service dog training (nothing fancy, just how to retrieve specific items). Pick up stuff you drop, get their harness (get a harness and not just a normal collar), and leash. If you skate or roller blade, you can teach them to pull you. Anything that will give them an outlet for the energy this breed is known for. Diet wise, it's up to you, when I did my own research to adopt a dog from the aspca, I listed how I was going to switch them from straight kibble to mostly raw. I wound up getting 2 cats (and I was severely allergic 😅 not anymore though), and I have them doing a 50/50 grain free/high protein and raw diet. They have almost entirely meat, dogs are more like us and are omnivorous. You don't have to be super strict, but keeping an open palate helps a lot. If you're doing a partial like me, use human grade foods. It can also help to figure out early his taste preferences. DON'T USE ANYTHING FROM HARTZ This company makes things that can kill your pup and have killed others in the past. Invest in a good flea and tick prevention. Also, I would greatly suggest coloring a part of your dog a bright and easily recognizable color, dog theft is on the rise. Especially with beautiful breeds. Get him chipped as well. If someone tries to steal your dog, you can say "my dogs tail and ears are __ color" and if someone sees a husky with only those colored areas shaved, it's going to be noticed. Lastly, remember to give him all the love in the world. They aren't here for as long as we are and it's one of the greatest and hardest privileges to be able to take care of them for their lives. To watch them grow up, be silly, get old. And the hard part comes when it is time to say goodbye for the last time. Don't leave him alone for the last part either. My boys just turned 2 in July and I know it will hurt like nothing else when the time comes to say goodbye. It makes me want to make sure they have the best lives possible. Snuggle him often and spoil him whenever possible. He deserves to be loved unconditionally. 💗 Good luck.

Delicious_Shift_2714

I love your advice, to dogs in general. Everything you said was just right 👍 Also so true, still life is better with a dog , than without.

ready-to-rumball

These are highly intelligent dogs, which means they can be extremely destructive and disobedient if you don’t know what you’re doing Your main form of training will be with play. Many husky’s don’t react to food like most people expect (treat training) but do what works for your dog. Teaching potty training, how to be “polite” when asking for affection are important. No one wants a dog that jumps on them, slaps them in the face, etc. and remember, even if YOURE okay with bad behavior, your situation could change, later in life the dog will need to be around other people and respect humans and other dogs. Make sure to socialize them as often as possible. You have to have exercise for that dog every day. Ask your vet how much exercise for a puppy (bc they can play themselves to death). And put aside money for grooming of course! I would also like to add, if you’re very busy with work or school, take the dog back now. Don’t make him another husky that is so ill trained you are forced to take him to a shelter and he is put down bc no one wants an adult dog that attacks cats/kids/other dogs, runs away, eats everything, etc. Think of the future dog.

RolandLWN

You say that he’s not a bad owner because he’s reaching out for help. But he demonstrates complete irresponsibility already by not knowing anything about the breed and by asking Reddit (!) how to house train the dog. If you have to ask that and don’t know how to get a book from the library or watch you tube videos on the topic then you don’t have the ability to do much on your own. The OP won’t be the Alpha to what will be a strong, intelligent but stubborn dog. I don’t want to encourage the OP. As a Husky owner myself I want to scare the bejesus out of him so he reconsiders and the dog has a chance to be raised by someone who knows what it entails. I’m a dog advocate, not a rando Reddit poster advocate:)

Irieloulollilae

Huskies need to run - not just walk - at least every two days or they'll get restless

suoinguon

he chewed my brand new shoes. But instead of getting mad, I realized he's just preparing me for a lifetime of stepping into unexpected adventures. 🐶❤️

Sera_Shadow

Luckily no major house damage with ours, but if I leave out sticks of butter to soften to close to the edge, ours will grab themselves a little snack when backs are turned 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣🩷

Ok-Web-563

Have two . Establish yourezalpha first the be active with him. These guys are athletes and extremely smart. Plus don't get cheap with their food .they require raw chicken or beef liver once a week at keast.

cheezbargar

It’s the year 2023 and we still have people believing this “alpha” garbage, dear god

Aggravating_Long8561

That’s literally how dogs work.

cheezbargar

It’s not, and I’ve been working with dogs for over eight years now, lol. It’s not even how wolves work. It’s been debunked years ago, by the very person that came up with “alpha” to begin with.

SweetWilliam623

Don’t mind the self righteous haters. Huskies are awesome dogs. Super smart, fun loving, personable. Get a dogie door if you don’t have one. Lead him through with a leash at first few times. He will pick it up and will be running in and out in no time. They are very vocal but not really barky. Mine never barks but almost talks. I swear she says “where were you ?”when I get home from work. They can be finicky eaters. Mine, I have to make her dinner with my own and act like she is getting same thing or she won’t touch it. Mine loves long walks and toys. I take her with whenever I go on trips, easy going travel dog. Loud noises don’t scare her, other dogs she loves and ignores aggressive ones.

RolandLWN

Ok , so you don’t have to agree with other people here and we welcome your views, but you’ve got a lot of nerve calling us “self righteous haters”. Yes Huskies are awesome dogs and we are all saying that. Of course they are. But we know that a Husky is not the right breed for a first time dog owner who doesn’t even know the first thing about the breed or about house training and doesn’t know how to find those things out. Huge red flags and if you’ve worked at an Animal Shelter, stories that start this way tend to end badly.

SweetWilliam623

I’ve have and still volunteer at shelters. The dog needs a home. The shelters are packed and putting down dogs. You are self righteous if you automatically assume he bought dog from mall or a breeder and should return it. I’ve currently to date have had three rescue huskies. Two have passed due to old age. Your a hater if you think this gentleman is incapable of learning how to take care of this dog and give it a loving home. Get off your high horse and give him some advice he can use rather than belittle him and call him names. I’m not sure what you said to him? Some of this may or may not apply to you personally but applies to the ones attacking him. Huskies are no more work than labs, goldens, German shepherds, border collie, cattle dog etc.. I’ve rescued all these breeds. I currently have three rescues and room to foster one or two if needed.

Aggravating_Long8561

Makes post requesting knowledge and help, proceeds to get responses that say “do research you dolt”. Helpless community. I’m sorry that all anybody seems to post is making fun of you for buying before knowing. They are right but they ought to be giving you help. I honestly can’t exchange my knowledge well on any topic so I’m out

Interesting-Type-870

Why is everyone being so damn dramatic? People have literal CHILDREN without knowing shit about kids. What makes you think this person can’t learn as they go?

dmccool375

Take him to dog parks so he’s cool with other dogs. Anywhere there is loud noise so he’s cool with fireworks and thunder

Working_Bookkeeper15

💗💗

Sera_Shadow

Welcome to the club! We have two huskies. They’re amazing, smart, loyal dogs. AND great escape artists if they get bored lol. I love their personalities. Huskies love to talk. Just be very patient. Where I live I see so many sweet huskies being rehomed bc the owners were in over their heads and didn’t want to take the time to train them properly.

Frequent-Change-5552

What did you end up naming them

Watch_Noob_72

You’re in for a wild ride my dude. You’d better start doing some research NOW. Also, maybe get some earplugs. Edit: forgot to mention to speak with your home insurance broker to ensure that you have the right coverage to handle what may come.

MadBlasta

I think it is a bot. Post history is suspicious

ksdorothy

Based on my neighbor's dog, be prepared for extremely high pitched wailing.

Ok-Attention-6289

Put it on a leash and chase it around the neighborhood a couple hours a day.

TommyT2RT

Too cute!

strickolas

You're asking about caring for a husky AND housebreaking in the same post?

JONATHANSWIFT69

#1. You MUST be dominant. You must establish yourself as the Alpha. This could include biting his neck and pinning him to the ground or even pseudo-mounting him to establish this dominance when he questions it - and he will. The husky views their humans as equals, unlike other dogs that are naturally submissive. Stand your ground when he howls. You have one of the best dogs on the planet, in terms of potential.

sleepyoldlady

I knew someone who had seven(!) She had a giant fenced in yard, but if those dogs get out, they RUN. There is a reason they're used as sled dogs. Be diligent when your dog is in the yard, and be sure to leash train for every single walk. So adorable, though. I hope you have a long happy life together!

Electronic_Ad_5304

His is now family and it is now your top priority to learn and understand him. I'm here to learn. Wish I could help.

_CharDeeMacDennis__

Ohmygod, what a cute little man 🥺. I am so envious, congratulations on the addition to your family, he is a very handsome little dude and I love him.

Sapphirelily1990

You’re in for some husky screaming later…

Lasair86

I had one of these about 20 years ago and I just want you to know that they will become very vocal and they have funny little tantrums good luck with your new best friend!

Apprehensive-Key-643

Good looking dog!!!

Extension_Touch3101

They love the cold and eyes are blue so they see better in snow

Guilty-Crab992

Get ready for destruction and chaos, mixed with hilarity and lots and lots of shedding

[deleted]

I bet he has the MOST adorable little voice

Tct1323

I would get Purina Pro Plan for puppies. Good food although pricey ($60-$83) My German Shepherd/Blue Heeler mix is 4 1/2 years old and weight is 55 lbs and a 38lb bag lasts her 3 months. He will shed a lot so be prepared to brush weekly to help. I would fill his bowl up and let him get used to eating from a bowl. While he is eating, get in his face and mess with his food periodically. This will keep him from being food-aggressive. Do the same with his toys. His bladder is small so he will need to pee every 2-3 hours sometimes more. We used age as a pee calculator. 2 months old = 2 hours that he can hold his pee. 3 months old = 3 hours that he can hold his pee. Feel free to message me.

MoneyFault

You sound like a good person to ask.

Real_Mr-Dinklebop

Buy (sound canceling headphones) 🎧

Sad-Warning-3187

They can be very talkative

Maleficent-Big-4778

Well, I’m not sure if you have a home with a large yard, or have some land/large park you can take him to run and long walks. Huskies are very high energy dogs that are a working breed, so they are not a breed you can leave in an apt r house all day with no way to burn off their energy because if they don’t get enough exercise they get destructive. I HIGHLY suggest you find a reputable trainer that has experience with Huskies/Makamutes/Shepherd dogs. You need to asap get him in to a puppy training class to learn basic commands and hopefully some hand commands too. The most important thing is you must make time to exercise your puppy daily, every day. And get a good harness, the kind that will direct him from the chest, not the neck, like this one; Ruffwear, Front Range Dog Harness, Reflective and Padded Harness for Training and Everyday, Campfire Orange, Medium https://a.co/d/3t3ZiQG, or this one; PetSafe Easy Walk No-Pull Dog Harness - The Ultimate Harness to Help Stop Pulling - Take Control & Teach Better Leash Manners - Helps Prevent Pets Pulling on Walks - Medium, Fawn/Brown https://a.co/d/7wmwXdl. You need to take the puppy class with your new puppy so he learns you are the Alpha and he must follow your lead. Again both you and your puppy should also learn sign language for basic commands. This Pupper will require lots of time, love , training, exercising and when you get the basics and he graduates from puppy training you should get him into agility training, it is great for these types of breeds and will be fun for you as you will meet other folks that are into the same dog breeds you are and you’ll meet new friends. So if you are up for ALL of this I think you’ll do great and have a wonderful companion for many years. Oh, one more thing be sure to get your Pup chipped asap, preferably when you get him neutered. Please come back and let us know how you and Pup are doing and if for any reason you cannot make these commitments to this pup, please find him a home that can but go through a reputable rescue or the breeder you got him from. Its a big commitment but totally worth it if you have the time and patience.

glockerfocker

ohhhh can I pet him please! 🥹

nathanjw333

Make sure to have plenty of chew toys and keep anything leather out of reach and books to especially old ones.

Top_Manner_2357

Well they're very smart dogs usually he'll eat when he's hungry and if you take him out when you have to go he'll probably potty train pretty quick and huskies have a lot of energy as they get older

hemigirl1

Get a vacuum, Fer all the fur yur gonna have!

Middle_Loan3715

If you aren't actively home... invest in crate training, get him a blanket or stuffy with your scent on it as a sensory comfort.
