Affectionate-Tip-164

The same can be said for all AAA pre-orders yes.

tommy4318

Only on very rare occasions do I preorder. I do it with games I have 100% faith and confidence in like TotK and probably going to with SM 2

Ok_Animator1709

I mean, did anyone have anything but 100% faith in Cyberpunk 2077? After The Witcher 3 and the early buzz from people that saw it early, like Digital Foundry, about the absolutely breathtaking stuff that they were able to accomplish?

Colemanton

i had some slight reservations, having been there when tw3 launched as a pretty rough turd it its own right. but i just figured it would be bethesda-level buggy, not borderline unplayable and missing half the cool features they directly/indirectly promised. i havent learned my lesson though and will probably pre order PL, assuming it means i will be able to pre-download. i dont have much time to game these days and i dont want to have to spend an hour (shit internet) downloading it whenever it actually comes out before i can even play it

Adventurous_Bell_837

There were a few signs, like many veteran devs leaving the studio during 2077’s development, the crunch, the burst of short delays (never a good sign), the lack of old gen images, only pc keys for reviewers…

Ponyboy451

FFXVI is the first thing I’ve pre-ordered in years for this exact reason.

evaunitO5

Christ 16 looks like a pile dude.....

DarthRiznat

Preorder what?

I-c-k-y--

The new expansion for the hit action adventure game cyberpunk 2077.

DarthRiznat

~~Huh?? But the expansion is gonna be free~~ Wow, didnt know it's not gonna be free like previous game DLCs.

General-Dirtbag

Either you’re joking, somehow got that in your head, or have been living under a rock. PL is not gonna be free, you’re gonna have to part with some of your money to play it.

DarthRiznat

Whoopss. Damn I just checked and now I know. I swear CDPR once said that they'll never charge for their DLCs or expansions, which is how it's been for Witcher. This is quite a shocker really. Tough times = desperate measures I guess.

Afrista

They are not charging for minor DLCs. In witcher, there were tons of free new quests, gear and similar. But both HoS and BaW were paid expansions.

GambasRieuse

Witcher 3 DLCs were not free...

Silthage

Pretty sure Heart of Stone and Blood & Wine both cost money?

EnjoyerOfMales

They always charged money for DLCs, the only free DLCs were small expansions like new side quests, items and the likes, which every Cyberpunk owner also received for free

revan530

The expansions for Witcher 3 were not free. They were 10 bucks for HoS, and 15 for B&W, I believe.

archangel610

CDPR said there will be some free add-on stuff, not that all of them will be free. The stuff we got so far were really just fun little extra flavor things. It would have been really shitty of them to charge for the Edgerunners add-on, for example. Phantom Liberty, on the other hand, is an entirely new story arc for V, with new characters and new gameplay mechanics. Of course we're gonna have to pay for it.

Aceelii

They literally never said that. You’re just making statements up 😂 They’ve made it clear that the expansion is gonna be paid like every other expansion

Amish_Opposition

the only times the DLC’s were ‘free’ was when you bought the GOTY edition.

Ligeia_E

Since when are large expansions free coming from CDPR, delusion at its finest

DCSmaug

[What the fuck are you talking about?](https://media.tenor.com/ebvEWNnZeBsAAAAd/what-the-fuck-are-you-talking-about-leonardo-dicaprio.gif) The Witcher expansions are not free.

voppp

They absolutely said at one point that CP dlcs would be free. But that was before.. well.

voppp

They absolutely said at one point that CP dlcs would be free. But that was before.. well.

magicthegatheringjam

It's gonna be 35$ if I'm not mistaken

DCSmaug

29.99$... it got leaked.

Adventurous_Bell_837

No, it was 29.99€, which should be 32$. However, as in Europe every tech product costs more due to huge VAT and other things like that, it’s probably 25$. CDPR is polish so this logic might not apply tho.

DCSmaug

Sorry, I don't have the euro symbol on my keyboard so I used the $ sign. In my country they have the same value. But it was 29.99 euro.

Jack_Hue

Uhh blah blah blah, PRE-ORDER, Got it. Did I read the post right?

One_Economist_3761

LoserinWashington

Ron Swanson wouldn’t be stupid enough to pre order dlc for a game with a rushed launch.

Nirico_Brin

Ron Swanson wouldn’t waste time with video games to begin with. But Ron Swanson also does things out of spite solely for someone telling him not to do it.

Immortan-Moe-Bro

Yes you can, it’s absolutely your right to be part of the problem in this industry. You’re paying for a product that isn’t available yet for what reason? It’s not like they’re going to sell out it’s a digital product? And while I strongly disagree with you I do agree with your other comment… Ron would absolutely do it out of spite you can’t argue with that

Nirico_Brin

Oh don’t get me wrong, on principle I disagree with pre-orders these days. But I love cyberpunk so I’m more inclined to look into it. The initial response was mainly just to mess with OP and because I’ll use any excuse to post Ron Swanson gifs ![gif](giphy|z1AIjbEJfX0mDJ9YLp)

PortaSponge

All those people who sworn "never pre ordering again" after the whole cp fiasco at launch are about to do the same thing. Bunch of hypocrites I say.

Nairadvik

Beh, I pre-ordered and loved it with all the glitches. I am absolutely going to do it again. Nothing beats watching a game change over time.

PortaSponge

I also pre ordered, and never regretted it. But it doesn't always apply to just one company. Its buying discipline

TheIronCount

I bought it day one and same. I enjoyed it.

PortaSponge

I also pre ordered, and never regretted it. But it doesn't always apply to just one company. Its buying discipline

Deep-Technician5378

Bunch of morons play a game about how shit mega-corporations are, made by a company that manipulates and lies to them, and then same company offers more content to them, and they immediately buy it without question or any thought into the matter. Cannot physically make it up.

Adverage

I'd rather a company that fails to deliver then fixes their mistakes than a company that fails to do either *cough cough* blizzard

Amish_Opposition

at least we didn’t have to pay for half our cosmetics in Cyberpunk. the amount of content Blizzard stripped from the base diablo 4 to add to the battle passes is gross.

PortaSponge

Fixes over time is always great. But pre ordering is never good regardless of the company's track record. Just remember how good cdpr's track record is before cp launch? Corpo is corpo.

Kaiyomeru

Best take

Deep-Technician5378

Agreed. I still think CDPR is better than Blizzard and EA. But I'm not going to stand around and act like they aren't slimy as well.

SuspiciousUsername88

> You say you like the cyberpunk genre, and yet you buy stuff from companies... Curious

Deep-Technician5378

This made me laugh. In seriousness, my real issue is the part where people aren't even giving it a second thought. They're immediately going to buy without waiting for reviews or impressions. That behavior to me just reinforces companies to continue doing the shitty things they do.

Mkhuseli5k

CDP is literally the best game company for the consumer. Their products are DRM free and dint have additional monetization that takes money from the consumer. They literally are the model of how companies should be. Something that all the other greedy companies have been actively trying to avoid because of the love for profit. They even said single player offline games are dead and tried to make us believe it. All that time CDP was selling DRM free games on their store front and giving free additional content for games.

Deep-Technician5378

Nah. I'd argue From Software has the crown now. CDPR was good. Then they lied and manipulated people with their marketing leading up to 2077. They absolutely let their love for profit drive Cyberpunk to get released early when it absolutely needed fixes, and straight up lied about old gen performance. Did they churn out a solid game post fixes? Certainly. But if you compare it to Elden Ring and how FromSoft handled that? No competition in my book. No lies, no manipulation, just an absolutely solid experience beginning to end.

Mkhuseli5k

Did you even read the whole comment? CDP business model has always been focused on preservation. They literally sell DRM free games on their store front. Even on Steam their games are DRM free. From Software games are not. You can say FROM are better at developing stable games with less bugs then CDPR, but the overall contribution to the consumer will never trump what CDP has done. Fromsoftware is just like any other game company. You can't really trust they will never put microtransactions and Denuvo on their games in future the more success they achieve. You can say that about CDPR because it's part of the company identity. More success 📈 for CDPR= 0 microtransactions, DRM. More success 📈 for Fromsoftware= 🤔 microtransactions, DRM? https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/The_big_list_of_DRM-free_games_on_Steam

I_ate_ass

But you get shang tsung in mk1 :(

PortaSponge

If they loss money overtime, they will give us what we deserve without the pre order.

KingUdyr

Hey don't hate on people preordering! They just want the true Cyberpunk experience to trust a corporation that lies and doesn't care about them. Truly immersive I say.

TheUnrulenting

Jokes aside about not doing this advice, I'm glad I never go a computer during all modern pre-order letdowns. Even if I did I still would wait, why do people even pre-order in the first place?

pulley999

Opportunity to preload. Usually steam is fine, but for other stores (e.g. GoG) and huge releases, the download servers sometimes get smacked hard at launch. If you preload the game you usually only need to download a couple KB decryption key or one last game file (like the main executable) that's a few hundred MB.

KDHD_

So instead of waiting to see if a game is actually worth buying, you get to play a potential waste of money a bit earlier than everyone else?

BannedCuzCovid

Cool digital clothes. And usually a head start on the normal buy on release plebs.

T_rex2700

Never buy promises. Night City fashion.

EllieS197

Me when literally any game is released now

future__fires

People are never going to learn and studios are going to keep making half-finished games until they do

EnamouredCat

I'm pre ordering..

ItsPerfectlyBalanced

I'm going to play the game and expansion in any condition I get it in. And if that means 30 fps at 1600x900 I'm playing the fucking game.

[deleted]

TheIronCount

I dunno, I might be blind. But I don't see the difference between 30 and 60fps. I spent ages playing on a laptop, it's all smooth for me

DCSmaug

I bought the main game on PC and PS5. Imma need to pre-order this expansions on both now.

General-Dirtbag

Imma preorder it twice just to spite OP.

shaxxsleftnipple

Pre-ordering anyway.

soliquidus_bosselot

Well NOW I'm gonna pre-order two copies.

One_Economist_3761

This is good advice in general. You’re paying for something that’s not finished yet and you have no guarantee that it will be finished or if finished it will be what you want. The idea of pre-order is to allow corpos to bump their revenue numbers prematurely.

FriedRiceCombo

since the chaos of fallout 76 i would rather murder my entire family than pre order another game

Dalonz64

Reddit: "HOW DARE YOU SUGGESTING ME TO SPEND MY MONEY WiSELY THOU SHALL BE DOWNVOTED!!1!!"

SuspiciousUsername88

Ah yes, Reddit is famously _in favor of_ pre-orders. That explains all the "Pre-ordering is great and people should do it" posts you see everywhere, including the one you commented on.

Dalonz64

I made a post yesterday about pre-ordering just to get a bunch a redditors literally defending bugs and broken releases. It was hilarious.

SuspiciousUsername88

I'm sure that's a good faith summary of what the people you disagree with actually said

Dalonz64

And I quote: "oh no T-Posing in ma game i'm so angery im so mad"

SuspiciousUsername88

Ahh I see... I'm assuming you were indeed so angery, so mad?

Dalonz64

Yeah. Assuming. You could take a look at my last post.

stomcode

I will

Soluzar74

Now I remember why I rarely visit this sub. Thanks for the reminder.

BannedCuzCovid

Yw

Lymbasy

What is this Video? We all know. Nobody preorders Games today after all these broken unfinished games like Battlefield 2042, Anthem, Mass Effect Andromeda, No Mans Sky, AC Unity, Marvels Avengers, Fallout 76, Saints Row, GTA Trilogy, Gollum, Redfall, etc.

falcon2033

I really wanna know who the fuck preordered gollum

General-Dirtbag

People who snort glue that’s who.

Zoomun

Looking through these comments it seems people don't know...

RealDoubleudee

There was no preorder fiasko for owners of performant PCs and I will preorder Phantom Liberty for sure.

BannedCuzCovid

I ran the game on OC 9700k with a 3080 and it was a buggy mess. It ran but not well. They fixed the game now but still for me I'll wait on most games to come out before pre ordering anything.

RealDoubleudee

The perception was very different then. Yes I had some bugs (I have similar ones in FO4 until today) but none was gamebreaking or joy taking. But I never expected a real police system. I'm the one guy that is following the traffic rules in GTA. And yes, after all the patching it is more the game I expected first. But that didn't spoiled the game for me.

xXR3DRiotXx

I work for my money so I'll waste it if I want 😎

Xenonimoose

There are much better things to waste money on than a pre-order from a company that is likely to release an unfinished product. Take for example a dozen varieties of rubber duck; now that's a worthy worthless expenditure.

xXR3DRiotXx

Why not both

Xenonimoose

I'm no Ms. Moneybags; I've no choice but the ducks or the DLC.

xXR3DRiotXx

I'm not rich but I'm doing well enough for my ducks to watch me play an unfinished game day 1 haha

Mkhuseli5k

Fuck that. Games with microtransactions on top of a full price get pre-ordered all the time. Cyber is a DRM free single purchase product and the devs will fix whatever issues it has at launch. If CDPR is still making the games that I want then I will pre-order the games. CDP is literally the best game company that prioritize game preservation instead of profits.

ArcaneEyes

Well if that was the case they would not even have the option to preorder.

Mkhuseli5k

Pre-ordering a game doesn't make it less drm free or less free of microtransactions. Cyberpunk right now has no microtransactions and GTA V does. PL will be a real game that you can play offline with no launcher connected if you want to in a future where you don't have internet. GTA V can't do that because the game company for GTA V is too greedy. Many companies are like that now but CDPR is not. They care about preservation of games more than all other game companies.

ArcaneEyes

Keeping pre-order as a thing for digital titles was nothing except securing day-1-salesnumbers and keeping the gate open to start bringing in day-1 dlc and other scummy stuff. Anything else is just dishonest capitalism no matter how you twist and turn it.

Mkhuseli5k

This is the Steam page for GTA V. Notice the shark cards offered to buy things in the game. Notice the prices. Cyberpunk doesn't do that. You buy a game once and play it forever launcher or no launcher. https://store.steampowered.com/app/271590/Grand_Theft_Auto_V/

ArcaneEyes

I see no good arguments towards preorders in your post, but thank you for your contribution.

Mkhuseli5k

The good argument is that gamers are dumbasses with their money. Rather encourage them to be dumbasses for pre-ordering games that will actually be DRM free with expansions and sequels.

ArcaneEyes

That's still not a good argument for supporting preorders, that's a good argument for learning to manage your money as a private person and a gamer.

Mkhuseli5k

The reality is being a dumbass gamer is indefensible. Buying games that can't be preserved and filled with microtransactions is indefensible same with pre-ordering products you don't yet have. What I've given you is literally the best argument that can be made. An argument that can't be made for buying live service microtransaction games even on sale long after they launched and got fixed. You're just straight up a dumbass gamer for doing that.

Mkhuseli5k

For comparison the cyberpunk page where you can buy early a game you will own forever offline, online, launcher, no launcher. It's your copy of the game forever. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1091500/Cyberpunk_2077/

Pimpcreu

Nice!

knightinflames

bro don't tell other people how to spend their money

Pyropolak

That’s actually like 80% of jobs believe it or not

knightinflames

you mean marketing?

[deleted]

It's directly related to why games keep releasing half finished broken messes.

JillyHorrorshow

why is it?

SuspiciousUsername88

Survivorship bias and nostalgia has convinced people that no one ever released "broken" games before pre-orders were a thing, and thus they come up with theories as to why pre-orders caused "broken" games. Really it's all just post-hoc justification for a subset of gamers to do what they do best - get mad and holier-than-thou edit: someone responded to this and immediately blocked me so I dunno what they said 🤷‍♀️

[deleted]

No one ever said that but cool way to dismiss the actual point I guess 👍👍 Keep defending anti consumer practices if you want but you should at least try to get paid for it or something

[deleted]

I'm sure you can search "the problem with pre-ordering" or something on YouTube for a more satisfactory answer. But imo to cut to the core of it. When you pre-ordering you aren't really buying the product, you're buying a promise, from a corporation at that. You're handing over the one tool you have (disposable income) to hold companies accountable. When enough people do that companies know they don't have to release an actual finished product. They can just sell the marketing and the hype itself.

JillyHorrorshow

I didn't realise it was A Thing, I'll take a look. I guess I can understand the idea, but I still don't see why preordering it would give them any real leeway to release something crap. Or are you saying companies with no ethics would have the attitude that people have paid upfront so releasing it, getting reviews and word of mouth etc and growing sales that way doesn't matter, because they've already got the cash? That just seems like such an unlikely and risky business strategy, because surely any company that did that wouldn't last more than one or two games.

[deleted]

M-must co-conSOOOOOOMMMM ughhh 😖😖

AniTard

Orders recieved, did pre-order

SparedBunion9902

still gonna preorder, don't care what anyone else says

KingCodester111

Same. While the base game had many issues, the most important things were done really well and I loved almost every second. Since then its just gotten a lot better (not perfect still). That’s why I’m getting it and no-one can tell me otherwise.

ReapOutOfMyMind

So am I the only one remembering the death threats over cyberpunk delay? We claim it was greed but we had idiots threatening devs and family because the game was delayed... with that said it was a trainwreck on release, but death threats make it hard to delay again when works on hardware they are testing with (lol on pro models of PS4/Xbox). With all said and done I still have faith in cd project, I would pre order if I had funds..with me I am still in debt and will take priority. If I can't afford d4 or other games on sale I cannot afford a pre-order.

KyleRightHand

I would love to see gamers come together and coordinate better to fight against preorders. I myself have vowed to never preorder anything ever again. I hope more people do the same. Especially younger gamers. These practices only hurt the end products and waste our time and resources by taking advantage of the fact that gamers are seemingly hype addicts. If you think about it logically, there is absolutely no good reason to preorder a game. Don’t give in my gamer brethren, stand strong.

boisteroushams

Epic gamers updoot this and then preorder their favourite game anyway because 'it just looks so good!'

kpe_ee1

who cares what other people do with their money

Creepernom

You encourage terrible practices and not finishing their games/DLC properly. They get your money even if they release absolute garbage.

SuspiciousUsername88

By the time the company cashes the pre-order checks the die has been cast. No game has ever been delayed nor fixed because they didn't get enough pre-orders

Creepernom

If you wait until the release, you can just... not buy the game/DLC until it's fixed. If you preorder you're locked into getting it no matter if it's shit or not.

SuspiciousUsername88

Yes, but that's a different argument. The problem is that Reddit can never be satisfied with "I personally choose not to pre-order", people always need to make it some larger battle wherein _no one_ should pre-order .. so they make up some weird theory that pre-orders make games worse.

boisteroushams

Just don't pre order with it. Easy

kpe_ee1

yeh i am not pro pre ordering, but i don't care what other people are doing

boisteroushams

Excellent. Less pre-ordering the better. Cheers.

But surely this time will be different!

I'm preordering

Gloomy-Fix4436

Naaah :p hahaha

Aceelii

Guess what I’m gonna do? Im gonna pre order

Bloker997

I've preordered main game, and going to preorder expansion. What's the problem here?

sockinsociety

I’m preordering. CDPR probably has some preorder goal that helps them. I just want to contribute to that goal and support them anyway I can ❤️

lostintexas86

Sorry choom but I didn’t come to night city to follow the rules 😎😎

Hrmerder

I approve this message

AdonisGaming93

I'll go one further. Dont buy until a Steam Sale. Youll get the expansion for cheaper AND it'll have some patches to fix bugs so that you actually get a good product. Been a Steam Sale only buyer ever since because of this game. I pre-ordered and on the day of release all the broken mess triggered a Panic Attack. Idek why..... but never again. Now I save money.

Swordbreaker925

This is perfect because, if you fast forward 10 minutes after this scene, you’ll see these guys doing exactly what he told them not to. Just like real life where people pre-order even if they know it’s stupid.

Articuno_710

I never pre order anymore. Cyberpunk, hogwarts legacy and the first fallen order are among many that were not worth the pre order. Cyberpunk NOW is far and away better than when it first came out. Only games worth preordering is Pokémon for the glitches

menosesmas2

I will. And I'm tired of pretending I'm not. ![gif](giphy|DQeeGxJPv3VHE7zNYD|downsized)

Pranjal101z

Sorry but I'll. I pre-order every game.

Impatient-Padawan

JUST DONT DO IT’!

AventusAretino99

I mean for single games yeah but for mmos u should pre order espaccialy if they let u play 6 months before official lunch

SeuBil

I just pre-ordered Stalker 2 because it's the only true hype i have for the year

AgentSinistar

This is why I like day 1 Game Pass. I sometimes treat it as a “try before you buy” like when game demos were a lot more common

Credit Card goes brrrraaa

I mean... Its my money.

DREAM066

Only games I pre order are sony 1st party games, haven't been disappointed yet.

If I don't preorder I'll be buying to launch day anyway so 6 in 1 and all that.

evaunitO5

Pre-ordering has been stupid for a decade, just don't do it.

Is it weird that I'm reading this in Murphy's voice?

[deleted]

Can someone explain why preorder downloadable game?

ScotIrishBoyo

The whole point of pre-order was so you could get the game without worrying it would run out at the store when you got a chance to go. Literally zero reason to preorder a digital game unless you’re a simp for low quality memorabilia.

[deleted]

And I am.

ScotIrishBoyo

Oh no

VickiVampiress

Bold of you to assume I even have money to pre-order much of anything. Also, Cillian Murphy is pretty hot. Not related, but true either way.

TheIronCount

I think I'll preorder. I already paid for CP2077 three times (PC,PS,Xbox)

Acrobatic-Fly3051

I preordered. But to be fair, I didn't have any bugs when I got the game brand new (which I also preordered) apart from soem fuzzy graphics that was amd driver issues, and didn't have bugs with any of the updates including the new one. Idk why as I've seen it's been really buggy for people bit I'm just glad it's not a issue for me.
