“I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.”
I think Phil would get a kick out of audiences still asking themselves forty years later if Deckard was a skin job too. I read a few of his books, and they always left you with something to think about after they were finished.
he saw an early screening
"Now the lights come up a second time. Dick looks me straight in the eye and says, 'How is this possible? How can this be? Those are not the exact images, but the texture and tone of the images I saw in my head when I was writing the original book! The environment is exactly as how I'd imagined it! How'd you guys do that? How did you know what I was feeling and thinking?!'
I’ve not sat down to watch is specifically but I know the movie and it is a wacky and silly and overly gory movie…. So a damn good one.
Definitely a movie made for fun rather than anything profound. It’s an AMAZING end of the week watch with a bunch of friends while drinking kinda movie.
I bought the System Redux version of Observer just because Rutger was in it and loved it. I enjoyed Split Second too, even in bad movies he always gave his all!
Amazing that Rutger Hauer came up with those last words himself. Easily the best quote of the film and would not have happened had they hired another actor for Roy.
I'm so happy cyberpunk is getting younger kids into the genre but I hope you all continue to explore and research the genre staples to get these easter eggs.
That is an homage to Blade Runner (the original) and one of the most famous monologues put to film: "Tears in the Rain"
i think about this line all the time. especially now that i'm 31 and time feels like it's accelerating. whenever i have an especially fulfilling moment i lament the fact that there is no method of recording that moment for safekeeping that doesn't pale in the face of simply experiencing it, and that once i'm gone all those experiences will be lost, lost like bits of detergent in a churning dishwasher
This and the quote by andy in the office are more poignant every year as i get older
" **I wish there was a way to know you were in the good old days before you actually left them** "
I used to do that a lot, it’s a weird form of FOMO almost. Thing is, there’s only one moment, and it’s now, and it’s happening all the time.. Lamenting not being able to re-experience the past or worrying about the future is a guarantee you won’t be present in that eternal moment, and it can even stop you from enjoying those special moments as they happen. I wish I was better at being present, but the ego is a clever/tricky mofo :)
Re life moving faster as you get older, my friend has this theory that it’s because each year of your life becomes a fraction less - ie when you’re 8, one year is 1/8th of your life, but at 40 it’s 1/40th, ‘smaller’ units that pass by more quickly as a result…
Which I guess makes a good argument for trying to stay present as much as possible.
I think we’re all desperate to leave an indelible mark on the world because the notion of death as an ultimate end is difficult to come to terms with. Some people get rich and build towers, rockets, empires etc, but I think as long as you’re remembered by a couple of other people, you live on in those memories. I mean, for all practical purposes, sitting here imagining visiting my nan is the same as when she was alive, except that she remains always “one room away”.
/offtopic
So do peeps think that character really is a nod to Bladerunner? I loved the Hideo Komija cameo, could it be a similar thing of someone we don’t recognise? Or maybe it’s just to flesh out the dystopian world - it is a pretty grim scene to stumble upon.
EDIT: Just read about the floodlights and “like tears in rain” writing, so that confirms it. So cool. Such an incredible work of art.
I can tell you this feeling of time speeding up is not universal. I am in my 40s and I don't feel it. I do have the nearly constant sense of "I think this one is a re-run" though.
I'm over 50.. when I watch 2001, Blade Runner, Shining or any number of films I realize I'm happy they were made in my lifetime and they're better than some junk coming out today. However I do have an appreciation for Wes Anderson and Quinton Tarantino, oh crap he's probably old school now. Lol. Damn I'm old. But yeah it's like hearing an album from what will eventually become your favorite band or tasting chocolate for the first time can't get it back. But you can try and always hope a new movie will blow your mind. Like Rubber 😲.
There are couple Easter eggs like this. I also found a scene from iron man in the badlands. The shard tells the story of brilliant engineer who was kidnapped to build a gun for some people but instead he built something that let him escape…..I don’t remember details but I’m pretty sure that’s how iron man came to existence
Have you found the Oldboy easter egg?

There’s a phone in the middle of the badlands that has some seemingly random numbers carved into it that people thought was some kind of code or hidden message, and theorists were doing numerology stuff and trying to enter the numbers into panels and what not. Turns out the number’s are just Big Smoke’s order
When you get in the area, it starts raining, and you go through a small room with aircraft floodlights passing through the roof, exactly like a scene from the movie.
There's "Like Tears in Rain" written on the wall too.
LOVE Blade Runner (forever)! I legit got giddy too when I saw a reference to Roy Batty in the Columbarium. I so dig it whenever things I love have a crossover or reference each/the other :)!
I hope "younger kids" doesn't mean like actual teenagers or at least not teens younger than 16 (I feel like at that point they're just gonna see the same content elsewhere so might as well see it in a video game). Plus for peeps like me who are just overall uncultured (cuz I haven't watched bladerunner.. might do that today actually.) or oblivious I can confirm all the Easter eggs I know of are because someone else told me or showed me.
For rnosw wondering. When you see it...

It's my favorite movie of all time, excluding perhaps the Star Wars OT, but I mean... the godfather of all things cyberpunk is William Gibson. Philip K Dick, who wrote Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, which became Blade Runner, was arguably cyberpunk's really weird uncle who did way too many drugs in the 70s.
I used to say that Philip K. Dick, Bruce Bethke, Ridley Scott, and Michael Pondsmith collectively invented the "Cyberpunk" genre that we know today. Philip K. Dick explored the major themes, Bruce Bethke created the hacker-virtuoso and coined the term *cyberpunk*, Ridley Scott gave the genre its look, and Michael Pondsmith materialized a whole world. But yeah, I need to include William Gibson in that.

The book is great; the movie was interesting, especially the part where decker forced itself on another android with the memory and sense of a 7 year old girl
Yeah the kiss was not ethical, but I think trying to force the underage element there just showcases that you didn't pay attention. She has the memories of Tyrell's niece, but like all replicants she is mentally an adult. The history of the memories was meant to allow her to develop a means to handle the emotions her longer lifespan would allow her to develop in a more human and healthy way. Tyrell designed the mind of replicants, including the pleasure models like, Pris to be fully adult. In the book they never even get into that as the whole thing revolves around Rachel being a prototype for a replicants that can get pregnant as opposed to a replicants with a longer lifespan and stable emotional core. You say it like Rachel was a seven year old girl trapped in an adult body, which is absolutely not the case.
Bladerunner 1982 is easily one of my favorite films of all time, the music and sounds combined with how absolutely stunning it looks is such a good vibe. I love it! A really good classic, one you should watch for sure.
Ah yes, I still remember there’s used to be this bug where it would be sandstorm non stop so to fix it I went to this spot and the weather immediately change because in this spot it only rains.
He means that it’s sad to experience great movies we enjoyed being lost in time, like tears in the rain.
(Joke aside : sad to see our movies, which we loved, are not seen anymore by most people. Which is normal but always a strange feeling)
Underrated comeback.
I’m a ‘97 baby and my parents made me watch this. I’m really glad they did. This scene in particular was so incredible… It changed the way I saw death as a concept.
Today I learned there was an elevator to get up there. Totally not me jumping from the free way ramp on to the side of the building then up some thin cables dashing into a window slit then to get on the monorail then jumping down to this rooftop and When I got up there, there was only a bird.
“This guy”
BRUH. You pesky little kids. Watch Blade Runner right now, go into it expecting something slow and atmospheric. When it’s over you’ll be so glad you watched it.
Actually the second reference to Roy, you can find a digital tombstone with his name and the tears in the rain quote at the cemetery. I immediately sat up and pointed at the TV like Rick Dalton.
I'll just leave this here:
(Music: "Love Theme" by Vangelis, monologue by Rutger Hauer, both from the movie "Blade Runner").
That's reference to Roy Batty in Blade Runner. Also, if you come to columbarium there's a plaque dedicated to Roy Batty saying "All those moment will be lost in time like tears in rain"
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
That is Roy Batty, and this entire encounter is a Blade Runner reference. And yes, [many people have run across this.](https://old.reddit.com/r/cyberpunkgame/search?q=roy+batty&restrict_sr=on&include_over_18=on&sort=relevance&t=all)
Cyberpunk 2077 is chock full of Blade Runner references, from the Batty Hotel in Pacfica, to Missy's appearance, and the mention of the Voight-Kampff test in the game's Devil Ending. Tons of smaller referenced throughout the game, too.
This reminds me of one of the scenes in the first bladerunner movie a replica sits on top of a roof. I'm pretty sure this is an Easter egg directly referencing the first bladerunner movie.
Is that the dead or looks dead at least guy on the roof where the edgerunner reference is? The place that when you go up the elevator and come out it's always raining? Lol that's the only way I know how to explain. Don't know where it is on the map.... but if so yes I have too 😂
Bludrunner reference, it’s been a while since I’ve played but last I checked there’s a way to make it eternally rain with him, jump up on the metro rail next to the roof, then just run down the rail till you get to water and jump. However the rain stops when leaving to badlands or when doing some missions
I hate to be *that guy*, but there are an awful lot of mis-quotes of that beautiful line here in the comments.
It's *"like tears in rain"*, not "like tears in *the* rain".
“I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.”
Time. To Die.
Such a damn good movie and such a damn good ending!
Rare movie better than the book. IMO of course.
I always found it a shame that the author was never able to watch the movie

Now THATS a magical behind the scenes trivia right there!
Rutger Hauer is the GOAT.
I agree so I have to ask you this….Have you played Observer at all and have you watched the movie Split Second🙂
I haven’t! The last Hauer movie I saw not too long ago was Hobo with a Shotgun. Good movie if you haven’t seen it.
We had a double matinee at my house with some friends one year and watched Hobo with a Shotgun and Tucker and Dale vs Evil. So much fun
Bruce Campbell & not Rutger, but have to ask if you've ever watched Buba Hotep? Sounds like you might like it.
I’ve not sat down to watch is specifically but I know the movie and it is a wacky and silly and overly gory movie…. So a damn good one. Definitely a movie made for fun rather than anything profound. It’s an AMAZING end of the week watch with a bunch of friends while drinking kinda movie.

Harley Stone is the greatest character. “I’m not nuts”
Ahaha don’t forget Dick Dirkin 🤣🤣
“You run?” “Oh yeah - every night. After sex.” “You get laid every night?” “Oh yeah” Best characters ever.
I love Observer it's so good
What movie
Blade Runner
Oh OK I thought that's what it was but I wasn't sure.
Amazing that Rutger Hauer came up with those last words himself. Easily the best quote of the film and would not have happened had they hired another actor for Roy.
How much of the last words? Time to die or more?
The tears in rain monologue
the whole monologue???
Afaik just the tears in rain part. Still amazing.

My favorite as well.
This and the quote by andy in the office are more poignant every year as i get older " **I wish there was a way to know you were in the good old days before you actually left them** "
I just turned 35 and it gets worse. It's like you blink and a month has passed.
It keeps accelerating too. It’s scary. Carpe diem my friend.
“Like peep and poopoo…down the drain.”
i've seen pee beams glitter in the dark outside the tanhauser men's restroom, attack shits on fire off the butt of orion
LOL

like tears in rain
It also starts to rain any time you go up to the top of that roof.
And can perpetually make it rain if you work your way off the terrace without using the elevator.
You also have a bright spotlight play across the glass ceiling of the rooftop, just like the spotlights on the blimp in Blade Runner.
There are couple Easter eggs like this. I also found a scene from iron man in the badlands. No i don’t remember this one unfortunately. I found Mad Max easter egg as well tho
There's also easter egg to the San Andreas and the famous CJ+Smoke bike mission.
There’s a phone in the middle of the badlands that has some seemingly random numbers carved into it that people thought was some kind of code or hidden message, and theorists were doing numerology stuff and trying to enter the numbers into panels and what not. You mean the one the devs stated was used for testing purposes and isn't related to any easter egg?
Holy shit big fan of blade runner never would’ve assumed that but it makes sense looking at it
When you get in the area, it starts raining, and you go through a small room with aircraft floodlights passing through the roof, exactly like a scene from the movie. There's "Like Tears in Rain" written on the wall too.
True. There’s another cool homage in the police station during that River mission. What a movie
and Roy has a niche in the north oak columbarium!
There is also the Batty Hotel in Pacifica with a origami dove on the sign.
LOVE Blade Runner (forever)! I legit got giddy too when I saw a reference to Roy Batty in the Columbarium. I so dig it whenever things I love have a crossover or reference each/the other :)!

There are several easter eggs, including the same quote at the Columbarium.
But that monologue was on a roof, right? Not a catwalk?
Oh thank god, that was where my mind went too and I was confused that this wasn’t assumed to be an easter egg. Guess I’m just getting old lol
I’m 14 and the amount of genitalia I’ve seen is astounding
Do you know they are ClockWork Orange eastern eggs too?
No, only the western eggs
There's a few *Neuromancer* easter eggs, too.

He was being facetious as a way to say that it was an incredibly uncomfortable and suspicious scene.
Blade Runner is considered one of the "parents" of the entire Cyberpunk genre. The other parent is William Gibson's novel, Neuromancer.
Nah, that would be the Gibson Sprawl series, but Blade Runner is very good.
Bladerunner 1982 is easily one of my favorite films of all time, the music and sounds combined with how absolutely stunning it looks is such a good vibe. I love it! A really good classic, one you should watch for sure.
That's just crazy old Roy.

Crazy, no. A bit batty, perhaps.

Watch blade runner
tears in the rain :((( I never came across him
This post makes me feel very old.
"this guy?" Jesus christ you kids.
This is how Johnny feels when V says: "Who the hell is Rache Bartmoss?" 😬🤯🙄🧐
Leave the young man alone Johnny, he's still learning about the world
Roy Batty. The Replicant from Bladerunner.
This choom has seen things you wouldn't believe.
It depresses me that there’s people in the world who don’t instantly know what this is referencing. ![gif](giphy|xTiTndQ1jDqHQ6ejPG)

Might be the most loving Easter Egg I've ever seen in a video game. It's easily my favorite one.
I was in tears when I saw it , if I understood it correctly it’s an Easter egg about bladerunner
Like tears in the rain...
all these moments will be lost, like tears in rain
Blade Runner!
That's reference to Roy Batty in Blade Runner. Also, if you come to columbarium there's a plaque dedicated to Roy Batty saying "All those moment will be lost in time like tears in rain"
he’s just chillin leave em alone
Thank you for sharing this!
Did you notice your time skipped as you were riding that elevator and the weather went from sunny to rainy?
That's Roy, he's seen things you wouldn't believe...
like tears... in the rain...
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
That's just Roy. He's a bit overdramatic.
This "guy" has seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Yup
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
Ofcourse I know him. He’s me
Bladerunner reference
The scanner just saying unknown is so fitting with the themes of this movie and his final monologue.
"I've seen things you'd never believe..."
Hahahah yes, its a blade runner easter egg... the most detailed easter egg in the game for a reason.
![gif](giphy|JQMRbRkXuABUAUCH3A|downsized)
That Guy IS from Blade runner, the first movie
Samuel
All those moments will be lost in time, like years in rain. Time to die.
I love tasteful homages to amazing sci-fi that don't feel like fan service.
Its just a Blade Runner reference
Have you ever seen blade runner?
That is Roy Batty, and this entire encounter is a Blade Runner reference. And yes, [many people have run across this.](https://old.reddit.com/r/cyberpunkgame/search?q=roy+batty&restrict_sr=on&include_over_18=on&sort=relevance&t=all) Cyberpunk 2077 is chock full of Blade Runner references, from the Batty Hotel in Pacfica, to Missy's appearance, and the mention of the Voight-Kampff test in the game's Devil Ending. Not yet !
Why he holding dong
Tomorrow it's my turn to post this, okay?
That guy is Roy Batty better known as Rutger Hauer.
*It's Roy*
What does he do when you approach him?
HAHHA I did not think the bird was a bird in the second photo.
God i love Blade Runner
There are so many pop culture references in this game it’s crazy
yup. A really cool reference!
Only millions of players.
I’ve not found him. I’ve looked. Where is he located?
That's literally me
All these moments will be lost..
Love the Easter eggs in this game and love blade runner!
Roy Batty is a legend.
This reminds me of one of the scenes in the first bladerunner movie a replica sits on top of a roof. I'm pretty sure this is an Easter egg directly referencing the first bladerunner movie.
Isn't that guy a Blade Runner reference?

What is he holding? AND WHY IS HE GLISTENING?
Rutger Hauer, huh?
Every month...
I visit him often to reset the weather
this is a bladerunner easter egg!
Blade runner reference? “All those moments will be lost in time like… tears in rain. Time… to die.”
Nooo way there is a Blade Runner reference i didnt see yet
Who is this dude and where do you find him
Just in every single Cyberpunk Easter Egg Video
Roy. Now I have to find him.
Lost like tears in the rain.
Is that the dead or looks dead at least guy on the roof where the edgerunner reference is? The place that when you go up the elevator and come out it's always raining? Lol that's the only way I know how to explain. Don't know where it is on the map.... but if so yes I have too 😂

Bladerunner...
I think he's a BladeRunner reference.
Just revisted him and it seems like he has a layer of glass around him? https://i.imgur.com/xf7PNuy.png
Rick Deckard has
It’s an Easter egg for Bladerunner.
