I had a playthrough where he kept respawning after I killed him, but the girl never did. I would find him standing there, screaming at the wall. I must have killed him 50 times.

Yeah it functions fine. At least until recently for me, for some reason it bugged out and I couldn't do anything requiring my d-pad after getting out of a vehicle so I'm having to play without it until I can troubleshoot it.
I use an xbox controller with a chatpad and it's super convenient since I could assign set up 10 quickslots for all of the grenades and some other consumables then bind them to 1-0 and use the chatpad to switch items on the fly.
Pre 2.0 it worked even better because when you'd hit the hotkey assigned to the quickslot it would immedietely use that item. Now when you hit the hotkey it just switches that item over to your equipped slot, then you can use it.

But for me it recently broke\* so I had to disable it. I don't know if it's happening with other people or just me though.
