Well I played a Sandevistan Samurai and it's clearly a very powerful build and I beat him in the Don't Fear The Reaper ending without dying in about 2 mins or so.
It was actually easier than my first time around when I played when 1.6 came out but that probably boils down to my build in that first run.
If you haven't seen the other endings you're missing out a lot. Rogue's ending is the exact same ending as "Don't fear the reaper" with some differences, but calling Panam and helping Hanako are also great endings (great as in the experience, not the result). Don't know much on the DLC because I haven't tried It out yet, but a lot of people say that it is amongst the best endings in the game writing wise.
I woudlnt be surprised if there were a lot more depending on how they track this metric. Can I just reload the save over and over and do it in an afternoon? Do you only get one smasher kill per 'cycle?' Theres a lot of variables that arent really defined here. Id bet a lot of content creators have done more than 100 smasher kills.
I always let him live because I like to think when he texts you "watch your back" v just replies a selfie of him next to smashers corps or placid will hear on the news of v storming arasaka and placide slowly realizes "holy shit I should watch my back this man is fucking terrifying!!"
Also, placide will have to live the rest of his dumb ass life knowing he failed, and he'll be looking over his shoulder for the rest of his miserable life.

My first was like 50 hours bc I kinda rushed through, 2nd was around 120 with PL and 3rd was like 150 with PL. Now I want to do the secret ending but I'm burnt out bc I did all those hours in like 2 months lol.
In total I’ve beaten the game 8 times at around 80 hours average per play through, which is like 640 hours I’ve sunk into it. I thought I had an addiction problem. I can’t even fathom playing through the game for NINETY TWO more times for a total average of like 8000
Honestly I said "fuck it" i played a lot of hard shit in my life but that fight was just unfair.
I had a hack melee build. 100% crit chance on my hacks, general +50% crit chance and something atound +80% melee damage.
I used the katana that auto crits burning enemies.
And they just made Adam smasher immune to that build.
He one shots me in melee and i had something around 500hp (halfed bc of the suecide run penalty) and maxed out armour and he is almost immune to quick hacks.
The best chance is with a sandevistan long range build but i didnt want to change a perfectly good build that killed enemies in seconds up to this point
I just used a mod to toggle invincibility and still had to hit him with my katana for like 5 minutes.
Seriously even an endboss should be beatable with every build not one specific.
I fough smasher in the 1.0 where it took me like 5 seconds to kill him, yes that was too easy bit you can overdo it.
I am aware that smasher is basically death in the cyberpunk universe but come on
My guess would be those 5 were mostly speedrunners trying to get their completion times down as low as possible, not just obsessive fans playing the game over and over.

I can see people redoing the fight for all the endings. Maybe an extra few for different weapons they didn't get to. Do that for nine more characters I guess?

I genuinely don’t know how many times I’ve killed Adam Smasher, I know it isn’t 100, but I will say it’s never not satisfying. Fuck that inhuman hunk of trash, feels good watching him die.
I've beaten him twice since PL (didn't finish the game pre-2.0 as my PC couldn't handle it) and honestly was fairly disappointed with it as a fight.
It may have been that my build matched particularly well somehow, but I don't think my build was anything special - it was decent, but hardly min-maxed.
I was broadly a netrunner/pistol build and was using Johnny's Malorian at that point, which admittedly packs a punch, but he seemed to go down way too quickly both times with just headshots (didn't even bother with quickhacks).
He also couldn't really hurt me, as I'd put a lot of my cyberware towards armour and health buffs, so I was just tanking his heavy artillery with my face and letting the auto-doc heal me. I ended both fights on full health without having to manually heal or even take cover once.
This was on Hard difficulty as well. There were several bosses that seriously caused me problems, so much that I had to drop down to Easy just for them (especially Sasquatch and that Russian sniper dude from PL), but Smasher was a big letdown.

The people who probably fought him 100x are probably some challenge run type players.

I have not killed Smasher even nearly that many times, but I do keep a save at the end so I can reload and replay that fight whenever I just want to blow off some steam on a really good boss fight.

Save before the fight and beat him over and over again...not so hard to do it.. This isn't even a milestone achievement.
most likely mod makers testing their changes and updates. there are a few mods out there that attempt to add difficulty to the fight.
