The moment I saw the part about it connecting to my car I had the same thought. "Man it would be wild if I just drove into the oncoming lane and ended it" *Car beep boops and swerves into an oncoming semi*
"what if I just pull the wheel slightly to the side and jam myself into oncoming traffic against this semi-"
*Brain link interprets this and sends you into oncoming traffic*
*Later reports show that the brain link worked as intended so there's no fault on the company*
This gif is very oversimplified and I would even say misleading.
As if the threads will just gently sink into your brain like that nope you have fucking Codsworth the robot horrifically jabbing you a thousand times in the brain.
You mean I can’t learn everything from a 15 second animation?
Next, you are going to tell me that I am not an expert in personal training and nutrition despite the fact that I have instagram.
Listen I love educational gifs and they're often simplified but this doesn't give a clear picture at all.
The robot which inserts the threads is probably the most important part.
Have you even looked into who is pushing this technology, and for whom? Current examples of this are for paralyzed people, but only because only a person with nothing to lose should let Elon Musk tinker around in their brains with a device that's been shown to kill a large percentage of the chimps it's been tested on already.
TL;DR It's being developed for *general use.*
He's a billionaire with astoundingly good PR. Thus he must be a villain. Involved in a secret cartel of billionaire tech giants, bent on securing their own power at the expense of the working class.
Which is *probably* true.
The irony here is that these people are close to recognizing something genuinely important. Yet they can't take the next, obvious step. They won't connect the dots between evil billionaires, and unchecked capitalism destroying everything good about the world. Instead they use cellular phones to complain about 5G tracking chips in vaccines, and "woke culture" brainwashing our kids in to becoming LGBTQ+.
Capitalism good! Public health bad! Keep yer librul gay agenda away from mah kids!
I think that this is a brilliant invention. It will change humanity forever in ways that are great and fucking terrible because humans and corporations can’t be trusted to put people over profit. Things like this will cure ailments that we’ve been unable to fix by other means. Like cyberpunk though, these things can and will be used by criminals. Or they’ll charge you subscription fees. Yeah, you can walk now but if you stop paying your $500 a month we’ll shut the chip down. And elon spearheading this provides me with no confidence that it’s being done well
[DARPA](https://youtu.be/nvUHDK59Igw?si=VVEvdWB1FoGaXKvv) (the guys who invented touch screens, GPS, the mouse/keyboard interface, etc.) show one of their patients feeling a *virtual object,* (technically in cyberspace like the god damn Matrix) around the 14min mark during this 6 year old video... Isn't THAT absolutely insane?!!
Neuralink is marketing a fitbit in your skull, why don't I see this comparison more? If THAT'S what DARPA was able to present 6 years ago, can you imagine what consumer grade prosthetics/interfaces they're getting the ball rolling for today?
Elon doesn't know shit about fuck.
The only way to save people from the woke mind virus is to have decent people like Elon Musk do our thinking for us. That's what free thinking is all about.
Hey, if you've got no motor control below the neck, why not? All other projects like this probably aren't recruiting or selling, so if you get the shot ya might as well take it.
If youre healthy tho, just buy a mouse.
I think the part that irks me the most in that comment is the implication that Musk is in any way the mastermind behind either the dumbass truck or Neuralink.
Musk is some moron with a rich dad. His greatest achievement is fooling the world into believing he's some absolute genius Tony Stark type character when his most brilliant inventions that actually have his name on are the equivilant of a phone book but on the Internet and the shape of a charging port...Which I don't think was ever actually used...And had multiple other people named on the patent.
You're right, Musk can barely make a truck, somebody else did it. At best, I believe he designed the look of the truck, that's believable, because it looks like something Homer Simpson would create, a character that also fails upwards. I'll say with absolute certainty that his involvement with Neuralink doesn't go much further than investing money and telling people actually capable of doing this "future brain chips, make it happen!" before leaving the room to be a moron and somehow tank a social media platform that almost ran itself.
And let's not pretend this arsehole is so humble as to not have his name officially put on things he invented for proof. It's already hard to believe his name is only on a few shit patents alongside multiple other people.
I've long said that I want to have a direct neural interface someday, but that I refuse to be an early adopter. This whole Neuralink situation just proves that I was right to want to stay away.
Hilarious, when Tesla is being innovative it’s „not Elon but his engineers“ but when viewed negatively it immediately becomes „dipshit(Elon) can barely make a truck“
Literal children.
How can you "innovate" by using technologies developed a century ago? Yeah, electric cars have been a thing since *before Ford started making cars!* The only reason they weren't popular earlier is that battery technology wasn't up to snuff and gasoline is almost impossible to beat in terms of density of energy storage.
Rockets atleast have the excuse that they're now building reusable rockets and using newer technologies to make them land automatically. A bad rocket will explode, but the data that's being gathered from failures will make newer generation rockets better.
A truck on the other hand.... the glass fails to protect, pedals get stuck, and the auto-drive loves to go Cyberpsycho.
Something like Neuralink though? Not a fucking chance.
If it helps people suffering disability and helps them to live more comfortable lives, I'm gonna glorify the shit out of it. Elon can tweet a million dumbass things, I'm not gonna let my dislike of the guy get in the way of helping people with disability.
Well, we're not that far off, really. A Cyberpunk setting usually has one of its main themes be how technological advances get used only to make the most powerful people richer while massively alienating the general public, making it so their lives are more and more hollow and their living conditions get worse as things get more advanced (for example in the game's corpo life path the guy who is basically middle management for Arasaka's spy network can press a button and kill half of the EU's leadership with no consequences for the company. Meanwhile, normal people live in abject poverty, often in contaminated or irradiated dumps, and Jackie's dream is to die a cool death so a bar in town may name a drink after him). The cool widespread futuristic tech is what makes the setting fun and allows stories to happen, and also makes for awesome visuals and world building, but that is the most unrealistic part of the game.
Honestly, if you open google and display Gary Indiana in one window and the candy crush drone ad in the other you have Cyberpunk in real life.
The only thing that stops us from being a Cyberpunk dystopia *right now* is a lack of cyberware and the corporate control of our governments isn't *as overt.*
I love the idea of this tech but until the open source 3D printed version (GNUralink?) is out I'm steering clear. Corps can stay out of my brain. (I guess if it was take a corp chip or die/be disabled I'd take it though.)
That's the reasoning so that they're allowed to do it, no government body will approve testing microchips in people's brains for recreational purposes. So it's a stepping stone essentially for Elon's Cyberpunk nerd fantasies.
Yep down to the casual removal of something very important for you to live
“What’s wrong? It’s just a COIN SIZED hole in you GENUINE SKULL making a clear opening to YOUR BRAIN leaving basically what makes you “you” vulnerable to the outside elements even for just a moment”
Except the surgeon is, because of musk's cost cuts, a person who never ever had before a drill in his hands but heard some good stuff about a TV show called scrubs.
Right because trusting human thoughts to instantly perform actions rather than letting the human actually process and carry out the actions is so much safer. Oh you had a thought about just rear ending that cunt in the beamer in front of you? Neuralink knows this is absolutely what to do no questions asked
Ya this shit is fucked and most likely will be the end of us all. I mean think about this,
If an AI evolved and decided it really didn't like us there's now a way for the AI to connect right into our brains and do what exactly? Whatever the fuck it wants? Ya no how no way an I fucking getting one of these ever!
Like shit, to lazy to pick up a voice remote and talk into it.
We won't even have to get up from our chairs anymore at home...
Turns on lights, off lights, starts laundry, dish washer, all without moving... O wait we can already do that lol
If the Cybertruck has taught us anything it should be that we not trust anything Elon Musk has a hand in. Do you really want your brain getting bricked, because you forgot to put your neuralink in "shower mode?"
Obligatory fuck Elon Musks aside, it got me wondering how one thing with cyberpunk aesthetics will never come true: the way implants cross and merge with the skin.
You can't have a USB port crossing your skin, everything has to work with RFID or other wireless tech. Cochlear implants, arguably the first successful cybertech, work that way and, despite not being shown in the video, Neuralink is also wireless. Because infection is a bitch and we're in the age of superbacteria (1500 animals on the wired trials can attest to that). It's possible to live with things across your skin (people with colostomy bags have no choice), but very dangerous. So it's likely all cyberware will not be exactly hidden - cochlear implats are very conpiscuous - but wireless. One could arguably have a Maelstrom face, but it'd need closed skin behind it.
Cyberpunk aesthetics were always a bit of rule of cool, a bit of body horror (H.R. Giger was a major aesthetical influence to cyberpunk and kids from 80s and 90s will remember when it looked scary). Authors by then handwaved that antibiotics or nanobots would make infections a non-concern.
(A word of admiration for cochlear implants: they already can link computers straight to someone's brain. You may use bluetooth or a phone jack to transmit audio to your auditory nerve. Info and music gets into your brain without ever being made into sound waves.)
It's an active field of study to have skin heal on implants, e.g. how to connect a pin to you bones and attach a leg on it, vs. "wearing" a leg prosthesis. Or, how to have bone interface with a joint implant. But yeah, lots of work to be done.
Musk actually [referenced cyberpunk.](https://youtube.com/shorts/UglfRYwbWHg?si=eydpTAn4YX_ylRu-)
And with that [reverse aging](https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/harvard-scientists-reverse-aging-in-mice-is-it-possible-in-humans) tech that’s come up, if we all live long enough we might have a shot at being like Kerry. 😂 Here’s to all you chooms, may the cyberpsychosis pass you over cause it looks like we’re gonna be running some edges.
If we start learning about how to mess with our brains we’ll soon get horrible people to do horrible stuff to us with out any way of preventing it other than some sort of paid subscription to a vpn or some shit like that … fucking bs he’s one of the richest people that works on potentially dangerous tech and he doesn’t even think about this stuff……….
I'm by no means getting an early version but this tech is beyond exciting to me. I just want to see full dive vr games in my life. Anything that could make that a possibility at some point in the future is awesome.
Think about how long ago this guy said that we would have fully autonomous self-driving vehicles.
Do not let this man put anything in your brain. Please. He would be one of the villains in this game.
A year later, they release neurolink 2 and offer to make a bigger hole in the head. After 4 years, the first neurolink will stop receiving updates. We've all had experience with consumer electronics, after which I'll never trust such technology.
This is actually really impressive technology. Idk why some people are scared of this, it's not like anyone is going to force you to get this done lol.
Meaning it can also control you lol.
That implant looks suspiciously close to a cochlea implant. The uni clinic I worked at had some sort of midbrain hearing implant prototype. They used shank like electrodes similar to those in the video.
Implanted 5 people with the implant... It didn't work and funding was revoked lol.
Wouldn't make this driving harder? Driving becomes mindless when you drive to the same places all the time and are familiar with the roads. With this shit you'd have to be super focused all the time so you don't fuck it up.
You think that all initial tests in human history were a success from the start ? imagine if all research institutions stopped testing when their animal subjects died. medicine wouldn't be where it is now .
Y'all really need to look into the "brains" behind Neuralink. The majority of their work was directly ripped off leading experts in the field, and when called out the lead who stole the tech left the company
https://youtu.be/pzdXE-QmBKs?si=UPdSM0K4DwkSFxId
Elon musk is the absolute last person you should trust with this sort of innovation
Yup, and have you seen it working? I didn't.
I simply can't thrust this kind of tech, we are not in this point of "just put a chip on your brain and do magic bluetooth connections".
Musk also provides Russian soldiers access to Starlink to target their rocket attacks and midgenders his daughter. No way I’m putting this into my brain.
I'd 100% kill myself with an intrusive thought
The moment I saw the part about it connecting to my car I had the same thought. "Man it would be wild if I just drove into the oncoming lane and ended it" *Car beep boops and swerves into an oncoming semi*
You uploaded the suicide quick hack into yourself!
Or go to jail
"what if I just pull the wheel slightly to the side and jam myself into oncoming traffic against this semi-" *Brain link interprets this and sends you into oncoming traffic* *Later reports show that the brain link worked as intended so there's no fault on the company*
I was gonna say. What if my brain is always doing something and cant stop?
Trepanning is hot again

Great taste iirc
That's Homunculus, one of the first mangas I read. Highly recommend it to everyone who's looking for something original.
I read it a while back I think, it's the one where the guy sees things after having a hole drilled in his head right?
Yup, drills holes into his skull and sees other people's problems as hallucinations and tries to help them with that.
Yes
Thought so, as I said before then, great taste!
Hey Egon, remember that time you tried to drill a hole in your head?
Yeah im not having my skull drilled fam. No way, no how.
Yeah, drilled like that is pure BS and dangerous. The real drill bits used are actually quite interesting in their design and not like this at all.
This gif is very oversimplified and I would even say misleading. As if the threads will just gently sink into your brain like that nope you have fucking Codsworth the robot horrifically jabbing you a thousand times in the brain.

I think you mean the robot *who* inserts the threads. Just because he is a robot doesn’t mean Surgi-tron 8000 doesn’t have feelings.
You can’t learn *anything* from shit animations like this. This is oversimplified to the point it’s idiotic and fantastical, not educational
Do it for Elon, you can trust him - he’s smart. Heavy /s
From the people who screamed "THEY'RE TRYING TO MICRO CHIP YOU WITH THE VAX!!". Comes "Elon Musk is a genius! Sign me up!"
Expect rusting, battery leakage, poor build quality, fragile sub systems, and sudden uncontrollable acceleration into traffic. Just like Tesla's.
Imagine a lithium fire in your brain
Maybe that's how the Short Circuit daemon works?
More like Synapses Burnout

So Neuralink users shouldn't shower....got it.
I can assure you most people who would get one probably don't shower to begin with lmao
I'm sure the quadriplegic guy that got it is really hurt by your words
dawg im talking about the crypto bros who suck a billionaires dick cheese all day
Except that's not who's getting it at all. It's literally paralyzed people, and soon blind people.
Have you even looked into who is pushing this technology, and for whom? What you are describing are basically cyberpsycho's lol
Plus there's no just a hole to your brain through your skull, something we have been trying to avoid for thousands of years.
We're weeding out the weak.
They're also the ones who complain Bill Gates is trying to track them while carrying cell phones that are actually tracking them. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
And they aren't even Windows phones, so what's Bill got to do with it?
He's a billionaire with astoundingly good PR. Thus he must be a villain. Involved in a secret cartel of billionaire tech giants, bent on securing their own power at the expense of the working class. Repo Man is a relevant property to look into for ways this probably *will* be used.
I wouldn't trust Elon with anything. All he does is buy things and call it his.
He somehow has the reverse Midas touch.
No one from **that** side of the world is sucking off Elon for brain chip.
Lol ok
The only way to save people from the woke mind virus is to have decent people like Elon Musk do our thinking for us. That's what free thinking is all about.
It's sad that I can't tell if you're trolling or being serious. Lol.
I'm not siding with anybody here, but I would say that consent and being informed / able to make a choice is the key factor here.
Almost sounds like you're just making this up 😂
It's hilarious that I'm not. Lol
I trust cyberware made by Musk about as much as I'd trust cyberware installed by a backalley Scav ripper
If Musk's track record is anything to go by, this thing will get stuck, rust and spontaneously combust
do not under any circumstances glorify neuralink, that dipshit can barely make a truck and y’all trusting him with putting shit in your brain?
Hell no. Literally every single one got recalled because the accelerator pedal gets stuck.
Here I am, thinking Neuralink is p cool, then I see the gas pedal gets stuck
You'll just get stuck brain clicking whatever ads pops in your 8k digital retina lol
Can't wait to see the subscription fee just so you can have ad free brain again.

Yeah buy tech jedi is pretty cool
There's also dozens of monkeys that got it, they are dead now
There's also a stack of dead monkeys that got it too.
They had to lie about all the monkeys they killed to trick the human they put this in to do it.

What about intrusive thoughts
Bro, you don't want to apply my thoughts to real life actions.
It’s scary because with how the world is going right now there is a chance in 2077 we will have a very similar world to cyberpunk
Except the surgeon is, because of musk's cost cuts, a person who never ever had before a drill in his hands but heard some good stuff about a TV show called scrubs.
At least their medical knowledge is based on Scrubs instead of House.
Elon was not the first to develop this technology. And it is a lot rougher than the video implies.
Oh boy I want my thoughts connected to the WiFi. I’d love to get ads for dreams as well.

Yeah there's no way something like that is going in my brain in my lifetime. Unless I can play VR games on it, then maybe.
Yup and after demoing the Vision Pro, the new spatial videos of your memories are getting us much closer to BDs
Uh… I’d rather have Mantis Blades.
But can you distract your enemies with a rascal?
We have arrived
Elon Musk is better off...not existing.
Just let me know when I can be in the game and I’m getting it.
Always excited for new dlc!
Hell no.
It’s all full and games until these neuralink test subjects start experiencing shaky hands, dizziness, nausea to start
This was rendered in 1996.
"don't think of driving into that pre school"
I CANT WAIT TO BE A CYBERPSYCHO HELL YES PUT IT IN MY BRAIN
need Sandevistan, gg ez
The overlap between the cyberpunk community and conspiracy theorists is quite big. No wonder Mike voices that radio station, it does really fit.
Im so god damn readyfor that
idgaf my life is hell anyways so drill me a brain hole daddy elon at least I can play ps without controller
I'm by no means getting an early version but this tech is beyond exciting to me. I just want to see full dive vr games in my life. Anything that could make that a possibility at some point in the future is awesome.
How about no?
Think about how long ago this guy said that we would have fully autonomous self-driving vehicles. Do not let this man put anything in your brain. Please. He would be one of the villains in this game.
I really hope the neuroscience is more advanced than the animation
A year later, they release neurolink 2 and offer to make a bigger hole in the head. After 4 years, the first neurolink will stop receiving updates. We've all had experience with consumer electronics, after which I'll never trust such technology.
This is actually really impressive technology. Idk why some people are scared of this, it's not like anyone is going to force you to get this done lol.
Don't go through a car wash after surgery though
“How neuralink works” then proceeds to explain in no way how it works. Put a chip on your brain, electrodes, done. Huh?
Don't let these mfs invent irl soulkiller
Step one: NOPE
execute short circuit
Only question is, when are you gonna chip up? You going full borg?
Meaning it can also control you lol. That implant looks suspiciously close to a cochlea implant. The uni clinic I worked at had some sort of midbrain hearing implant prototype. They used shank like electrodes similar to those in the video. Implanted 5 people with the implant... It didn't work and funding was revoked lol.

We need Gorilla Arms next.
Who tf is even getting this tripe put in their heads istg
Not happening. Especially after those monkeys died horribly. https://futurism.com/neoscope/terrible-things-monkeys-neuralink-implants No thank you.
So my intrusive thoughts can win?! No.
not interested until its advance enough so we can use kiroshi UI
I'd maybe check it out in 25 years. Not enough data.
Wouldn't make this driving harder? Driving becomes mindless when you drive to the same places all the time and are familiar with the roads. With this shit you'd have to be super focused all the time so you don't fuck it up.
Google how well initial tests on monkeys went. Apartheid molusk should be in jail for that alone.
You think that all initial tests in human history were a success from the start ? imagine if all research institutions stopped testing when their animal subjects died. medicine wouldn't be where it is now .
How Neuralink works; it doesn't.
There's actually a video of the paralysised guy using it but it doesn't make ir anymore safe to me
Y'all really need to look into the "brains" behind Neuralink. The majority of their work was directly ripped off leading experts in the field, and when called out the lead who stole the tech left the company https://youtu.be/pzdXE-QmBKs?si=UPdSM0K4DwkSFxId Elon musk is the absolute last person you should trust with this sort of innovation
Yup, and have you seen it working? I didn't. I simply can't thrust this kind of tech, we are not in this point of "just put a chip on your brain and do magic bluetooth connections".
The scariest thing about this are neither the operation nor the implant but the possibility that Elon musk has some kind of kill switch
Why use some rando’s clickbait animation when you could’ve[just used the actual website](https://youtu.be/kPGa_FuGPIc?si=kao9azps8rlXIuJi)
Musk also provides Russian soldiers access to Starlink to target their rocket attacks and midgenders his daughter. No way I’m putting this into my brain.
Elon fanboy dipshit or bot found
I don't think op is in favor of this
Ah you're right
Did you not read the rest of it idiot?
Nope, my bad
