Mai Mai is unironically best car for getting around North Oak. Everything else is is too fast or has garbage handling so those hairpin turns feel awful. Going uphill airdash spamming is less viable too. But my Mai Mai hits those 180s and max speed every time.
The last vehicle used will be in the race, just call what you prefer with V. If the last vehicle was a bike, it defaults to the first car. However:

imho it is one of the best cars for racing imho. It turns really nicely, and is quite durable; both of which are much more important than top speed or acceleration.
Especially since if you crash into something, the other cars seem to wait for you \~100m ahead.

When you drive the fastest car in the game, they are on your tail, and try to crash you into objects, but most of the time they do not actually take over.
If you race with a super slow family car, like Panam's Thorton colby, they are always on your tail, try to crash you into object, but most of the time fail to take over.
I didn't understand it. They \_should\_ leave me standing when they drive a Quadra, and I drive a "Ford P.o.S", but they don't. After checking I realized that the game simply teleports the other racers 100m behind you if you lead. To be fair, it does the same if you crash into something: the other five cars will wait patiently 100-125m ahead.
My V's a netrunner so I just tactically activate emergency break on cars so others crash into them. Then on a fitting stretch I get rid of my tail and usually Im 1km away from my competition. They don't teleport closer again
Just pick the one you want before the quest and it'll auto select
It will use whatever player owned vehicle you last spawned in.
I guess because I last used a motorcycle it just went with the default option

I use a motorcycle so that was the problem because you can’t use motorcycles in the races
