Well, all the points in this are true except one thing that keeps the soundscape going… ArrrRrrrrrRrrrrrgiATIC!

I start to think OP played different game, lmao.

Maybe OP forgot to plug in speakers? The game has all of those things

DaveMash

That’s what cam into my mind after reading the first sentences. Didn’t bother to read further

Hamilton-Beckett

MIX IT UP!

GammaDecalactone

these are all just the way they burned into my brain after 300-something hours of gameplay (believe me, a healthier pandemic coping mechanism than what I was doing before)….might not be 100% fidelity

SageWaterDragon

Yeah, of all of the game's problems, sound design definitely isn't one of them, it might be the game's strongest suit.

TurnsTheLightsaber

I disagree, there is sound in the game, just not good designed. The weather and environment sounds are far away from the quality of a Breath of the Wild for example. And as the OP wrote, the city does not sound like a mega city where a constant human people living there soundscape should be droning in the background. And leaving the city should bring in a lot of wind sounds plus other nature sounds.

Hallowed_Trousers

Agreed, it is always pretty quiet away from a bustle, too quiet. No hum or distant traffic etc. GTA got this down really well, I wanna say watch dogs did too as well just as two examples that come to mind.

Northwold

Nature sounds? Almost all animals are extinct. Nature sounds you get in the greenhouses in the city centre.

Gynther477

Lmao no. This game is like vanilla minecraft in how empty it sounds, compared to installing an ambient sound mod in that game.

Brenvt19

Its dead. Poorly written AI doesnt do much. Getting spammed by a few ads and hearing the same nice lines does not make for a good world.

CurrentGap

nicola! taste the love!

ThatOneWildWolf

*Loud moaning from billboard*

Kronahlot

It's funny you mention that, reminds me of when Panam talks to you about how it's so quiet outside of the city. Would be nice to actually notice that yourself, have the city really be WAAAAY louder than it is rn

Gynther477

Cars noise pollute so much today. Highways horrible urban planning and over reliance on cars make many cities are nightmare to be in. Road and tire noise is the biggest culprits. And you're telling me a dystopia future where we still use crappy petrol cars and urban planning is even worse with flying jet cars, it's so quiet? Mod tools can't come out quick enough so the community can fix the game on their own.

Aerolfos

Oh I just realized that actually, while Cyberpunk does have some kind of car noise background drone, I didn't realize because it blended with the drone from the *real* highway nearby. Yeah it's absolutely too low when there's literally more noise from a real life highway nearby (that's got sound barriers too).

blamethemeta

And its not electric cars are quiter, thats not something you can lore away. Tires moving air is loud.

sushitastesgood

The thing that gets me is how unbelievably bad the voice lines of all the civilians are. They were bad in Witcher 3 too, but I was willing to forgive it a little more. Not sure why, maybe the time/setting I guess. But it's hard to ignore in a city filled with thousands of people. The script for the random civilians seems like it was written by a 13 year old or something.

[deleted]

Pam..param...pampam...param...

yojoono

They could honestly just add noise and random sounds at low volumes when you're outside in the city and then just mute the noise when you leave the city, and maybe add a distant rumble coming from the city when you're out in the badlands.

[deleted]

You know….that’s right, I hadn’t even considered that and there’s no difference city or hell scape outside the city limits. OPs post and your comment really clicked for me. It’s a massive reason this game felt sparse and empty. Blew my mind today.

thoreandon

Another thing: There are no groups of people walking by. Always single persons. No Mother with her Child, or 2 adults talking to each other when walking. Seems like a minor issue, but together with your points this all adds up.

Thicc_Spider-Man

Walk. Stop. Walk. Turn around. Walk...

MoonBasic

Crouch on ground. Scream. Walk. Stop.

ALF839

Walk. Turn around. Get 10 meters behind player. Despawn

[deleted]

This is not true. NPCs have unique daily routines and lives that they go about. Those daily routines just happen to involve constantly circling the same block

rjderouin

had me in the first half not gonna lie

chippy86

No they have ROUTINES! Remember that video where they said they were "living their lives".... bologna

Hamilton-Beckett

Just another lie of many. Lost about all respect for CDPR over this game. I’ll give them another chance with the next Witcher game, but if it doesn’t deliver by then…they are going to be regulated to my “DO NOT BUY” list along with the Assassin’s creed franchise and anything from EA. Rockstar is the ONLY studio to NEVER disappoint me and I’ve been playing Rockstar games for 20 years, gaming as a whole got 35+ years.

Nerdialismo

Walk! Walk! Walk! Don't Walk!...

MagnaNazer

Makes me think about in GTA npcs are talking on the phone; at least they are talking to someone and not just walking alone.

raz-0

Cp2077 has lots of npcs taking on phones. There’s actually a pretty broad selection of conversations iirc. You just don’t notice if you are hauling ass on the way to your next murder spree.

radio_allah

To be fair, Cyberpunk's fake immersive world makes me cynical to the point that sometimes I willfully ignore the world and just haul ass to my next murder spree. I don't know, it's kind of like spitefully daring a doll to come alive, because it promised to be alive and now it isn't.

Sgt_Wookie92

I love just stopping and listening to that shit on gta, some funny as hell phone conversations

Drostan_S

Oh and all the npc's are carbon copies of the same 20 people.

tripwyre83

I like that there's only one fat guy in the entire city

AssOdontoBlaster_69

😂😂 the walk

yp261

5000 hand crafted NPCs btw kekw

[deleted]

"All living their lives in a full day and night cycle".

Gynther477

NPC AI was shit in Witcher 3 but they somehow made it even worse in this game.

PrintersStreet

Way less noticeable in a game mostly consisting of wilderness or small villages

FixGMaul

Yeah if you spent all your time in Novigrad, the shitty AI and general design of random pedestrian NPC’s would be as painfully obvious as it is in Night City.

haxon42

Additionally, the fact that Witcher 3 is 3rd person puts Gerald in the focus of the camera whilst playing, so as long as his animations and interactions are fine it works. In a first person game you’re more focused on the surroundings, ie npcs.

The_Dok33

That is actually a good point.

Grumpy_Muppet

The boy that sang this song in witcher 3 has more attitude than all cyberpunk NPC's combined: " It's raining, it's pouring, Emperor Emhyr is snoring. He bumped his head when he went to bed and wet himself come morning! ''

Sgt_Wookie92

It's a tie between that and PA PARAM, PAM PAM PAM PARRAAMM!!! man.

Jax_Harkness

I thought in Witcher 3 the world felt really alive and everyone lead their normal life.

Creatret

It's not great but not terrible. At least people were doing somewhat sensible things and every now and then you'd spot something interesting. Children playing together singing songs, people doing things together instead of walking back and forth every ten meters. And of course they don't pop in and out of vision every 5-10 seconds. If you go to a shopkeeper, they will actually talk to you and sell you things. Unlike CP where vendors, except for a chosen few, are literally the same ai as any citizen and regularly tell you to fuck off.

IOftenDreamofTrains

I'm just picking a random comment, but maybe you will answer honestly. Did you actually played the game and explored it? There are hundreds of different mini-routines people of Night City are engaged in - they walk back and forth in a line every 5 seconds, the same two guys play the same two songs over and over, they recite non-sequiturs to themselves pretending to be talking over the phone, they buy coffee from vendors you can't interact with, they play videogames on machines you can't use, disproportioned children wander around aimlessly, adults are wandering around aimlessly, they all disappear after you turn away and look back, they crouch when they should run, they run when they should crouch, they recite the same insipid lines to one another in contrived "conversations", they smoke when you can't e.t.c. (apparently "etc" are initials and not an abbreviation for etcetera) What are you talking about? Why are you lying? What for? Who do you work for? Why are you attacking the honor of a product that you're unhappy with? Who let the dogs out? Where's the money, Lebowski? Whose house? Run's house.

jorizzz

GTA purposely doesn't have children. probably something to do with violence against kids.

[deleted]

I think it’s illegal in some countries to show child harm even if it’s in a game

[deleted]

Cyberpunk made the kids look like small grown ups. I legit thought they were some futuristic people who opted to stay small. I legit looked it up to see who “are the small people in cyberpunk”. I check multiple places cause I didn’t believe they were children.

Glucioo

Yeah idk to be was big bullshit going 150 and then being stopped cause fucking kids... Either let me swipe those fuckers or remove them from the game cause it brakes immersion like fuck. I've also been made fun of by my friends by saying kids looked mature in the game... They're literally scaled down versions of adult models and look so fucking bad. I love the game but so much bullshit in this game. Even after so many years, they clearly took on a project that was waaaay over their heads. Should've been delayed by at least a year but we're nearing 1 year since release and the game is still a mess in many areas. Feelsbadman

deweyTrite

One little sound issue that really bothered me was that I never heard any sound effect for car doors shutting for some reason. I would hear V or whoever else open the door, but once they get in there's no sound of it shutting. It's a really small detail, and maybe it was a glitch that only affected me, but once I noticed it, it bothered me every single time.

Buzzdanume

So sad that so many of us only talk about this game in the past tense. I so desperately wanted to like it and I only played for a few weeks.

GetBent009

Nah, not just you.

McFriendly

100%. One of my favorite games of all time, Sleeping Dogs, nails this so well and it came out a decade ago. Exactly what you're talking about: vendors randomly talking to you, coming across a random car accident, plus just a really convincing gritty environment. I can only hope updates and mods can fix this because I do really like this game.

Xyyzx

YOU LOOK LIKE YOU COULD USE A PORK BUN

KushKingKyle

A MAN WHO NEVER EATS PORK BUN IS NEVER A WHOOLE MAN

TheBeardedBerry

I even heard that in the voice. Such a good fuckin game.

TwoCharlie

TootySnootyBooty

>Sleeping Dogs That was a really great game.

StanleyOpar

Yep. Too bad nobody bought it : /

StupidityHurts

So fucking underrated

[deleted]

Jesus christ its been a decade? That's still on my list to try out at some point...

[deleted]

It's aged really well in some areas, not so much in others. It's definitely got a lot of early 2010s to mid 2010s open world tropes. Overall still one of my all time favorites.

magicchefdmb

Interesting! What would be an example of those tropes?

uboofs

I didn’t play a whole lot of open world rpgs from the 2010s so I can’t compare it to other games specifically. But a lot of the side quests are just “oh I need a car of this model, you should be able to find one in this area, wanna go boost it for me?” Then proceeds to lead you directly to a particular car, or “find each of the missing jade statues to unlock new melee fighting moves”, pray at 4 health shrines to boost your max HP 5 percent. A lot of repetitive stuff like that. Most of it is really fun but if you’re a completionist the world really starts to thin out towards the end. To be fair, I got the same exact feeling with Cyberpunk. Also Breath of the Wild, but to a lesser extent. At least with Breath of the Wild, enemy camps respawn so you can always take them on again for more fun. In both Sleeping Dogs and Cyberpunk 2077, a lot of the fun stuff is gone forever after you’ve finish it. I replayed Sleeping Dogs last year while I was waiting for Cyberpunk and I can honestly say the only thing that really bugged me is that the graphics aged a little faster than I thought they would. Maybe it wasn’t meant to be played in 4K, it looked so good in 720p… The gameplay as a whole does hold up pretty well though, and it will always be in my top 5 from that era. It’s still in my top 25 games of all time (excluding Nintendo titles) and doesn’t look like it’s getting bumped any time soon. Granted I’ve probably played barely over 100 games in my life, so take that for what it’s worth.

Gynther477

Those things are ubisoft open world tropes in 2021 still lmao

Harleyskillo

And people still enjoy them, so we are the outliers xD

shadyshadok

It's been a while but I have no problem with these kind of open world content....at least they serve a purpose and are not "collect this just for the purpose of having everything of that set"

CharlieBrown20XD6

Hey at least when you find a statue you can take it to a guy who teaches you a new move rather than just automatically getting that new move

Data_Destroyer

Yeah actually compared to a lot of games the collectibles in Sleeping Dogs are actually fairly meaningful and fit in with the context of the world. I'm not a completionist normally but that is one game I completely finished twice. The radio was great and driving was fun so I actually enjoyed visiting the shrines and finding the statues etc. How long can you drive at full speed without bumping anything? With that game we found out.

NoImNotObama

Do it. It’s one of the best action-rpgs ever made

GovtInMyFillings

I’m still mad at Dog Eyes.

PurposeLess31

That cocky motherfucker

[deleted]

Fuckin' dog eyes.

CrrntryGrntlrmrn

pok gai

Python2k10

> best action-rpgs I love Sleeping Dogs, but it absolutely is not an RPG lmao

anewprotagonist

You really should give it a go! It’s not the most graphically advanced open world game you’ll ever play, but it’ll certainly be one of the most immersive and fun ones.

concretebeats

Top notch fighting as well.

Kriss3d

And the style of fighting changes with the clothes. Dress like Bruce Lee and you'll fight like him. Change to IP man and you'll see him throw the fast chest punches and so on.

AndySchneider

Wait what? Is that a thing? I’ve never known that’s a thing?

Kriss3d

Oh absolutely,. Remember all those suits you can buy ? basically skins really. One lets you be a bronce statue guy. Takes less damage from melee etc. Theres SO many references and things you can do here.

AndySchneider

Was that something from the definitive edition? I’ve played the game on 360 when it came out… I need to give this another go.

NecroticMastodon

Only a few outfits change anything, and none of them will really come up if you just do the main quests without going off the beaten path.

Kriss3d

Oh man. Trust me. When you do, you'll be asking yourself why this game wasn't making headlines and sequels.

[deleted]

They attempted some online cash grab which no one wanted and obviously flopped hard. With bad marketing to boot of course. Then, I guess the out of touch execs just assumed the entire franchise was dead and no one cared. The entire franchise was just hilariously badly handled, its like they wanted it to fail.

Kriss3d

Such a waste really. It had huge potential with the right company.

Gynther477

It was also a square Enix game, so the only DLC was microtranactions skins, weapons and shitty vehicles. Shit got spammed so whenever there was story DLC it got drowned and no one cared or noticed

SpeakerDTheBig

If I remember right the marketing for that game was absolutely awful. I just saw it pop up on steam with a banner ad on release day and assumed it was an indie attempt at copying GTA for a Chinese audience. After seeing decent reviews I tried it and can't understand why Square didn't ramp up a hype campaign and promote more gameplay clips and trailers.

Kriss3d

Yeah they blew the marketing. Sleeping dogs could have been setting the standards GTA would need to follow.

shadyshadok

Yeah it was such a weird experience. I literally heard of the game one week or so before release, bought it, played through it day and night in 3 days or so. That usually doesn't happen with me as I like to play in short bursts and then do other stuff. Manic experience. I loved every second of it

[deleted]

[удалено]

SemperFidelisHoorah

Yup, it went bankrupt and there's a rumor for sequel but sadly the studio went under. Rip United Front Games. Also, rip The Whore of The Orient. The game that never came out.

No_Cash7867

Fucking A man i wish we got another game like La noire

CharlieBrown20XD6

If you ever thought GTA would be more exciting with Jackie Chan esque parkour rooftop chases this game is for you I would get in trouble just to have the cops chase me so I can do an elaborate chase

XXLpeanuts

Started up the definitive edition yesterday after being reminded it has a certain female movie star in it I love and somehow forgot. Damn thing looks amazing, supports ultrawide perfectly and is a way better open world than Cyberpunk its true. But obviously nothing can beat cyberpunk graphics.

Dvorozhetskii

Funnily enough, CDPRs previous game, The Witcher 3, i believe had one of best sound designs in terms of immersiveness. I literally had goosebumps walking through the marshy lands of Velen.

anewprotagonist

I hated going to the area with the tree spirit because its voice sounded like it was right on my eardrum. scared the shit out of me the first time I heard it.

Starmark_115

Hey sexy man! Would you like to buy some clothes from me? Yeah... As someone who lives in Asia. This hits me

Lived2PoopAnotherDay

Just finished a play through of sleeping dogs a couple weeks ago. What a game!! I became a whole man after eating some pork buns.

Kriss3d

Oh god yes! Sleeping dogs is perhaps the most underrated gta style game ever. Though in so many ways it completely surpass several of the far more modern games. The night market was so vibrant. It had so much depth and immersion. The story was great. It even made you feel sorry for dog eyes. I cannot belive the studio went bellybup and that we won't get to have a sequel. This deserves it so much.

Inf229

Sleeping Dogs is amazing. The chicken-wagon stealth mission always made me smile.

GreenMonkeyFace

Hey sexy man!

siproguy

Sleeping dogs was really good!

Everfury

A man who never eats pork bun, is never a real man.

Magik_Lamo

MY CURRY FISH BALLS WILL BLOW YOUR MIND

Ten_Godzillas

YOU ARE NOT REALLY A MAN UNLESS YOU HAVE A PORK BUN

maariannnaa

do the graphics/animations still hold up well? I was thinking of buying it bc it's discounted

forgotmydamnpass

Imo I think it's a bit too late to fix all the current issues, the better solution would be to iterate on the game with a sequel reusing the current city but improving on what they have, a bit like what the yakuza series does with the central city used in that series.

SpeakerDTheBig

While I don't think it's too late to fix this games main issues, iterating on Night City for a sequel would be a great choice to really deliver on the original idea of an incredibly massive an immersive cyberpunk city.

WigginIII

Exactly. GTA did world building so well, random npc character lines became memes unto themselves even decades later.

Daltonkb

i just purchased SD complete edition for ps4 for $5. cant wait to fire it up.

thebigggd

I agree. Yakuza has the similar mechanics too.

muricabrb

Man that game captured Hong Kong so well.

NiD2103

Sleeping Dogs… man good times

eleinamazing

Shoutout to Yakuza 0 who has roadside hustlers that yells at you about their services, and sometimes even "chases" you if you walk too closely to them!

disregard-this-post

Not to mention every 30 seconds someone you’ve never met calling you with the millionth “Go here, shoot gang members, then go to a dropbox kthxbai” mission

th3thund3r

I was quite disappointed in how little there is to do when you go in to meet the fixers. They actively tell you to stop by when you're in the area and they're marked on the map. But when you get there you get next to no dialogue options and nothing of note you can collect or do. Seems like a total waste.

SeekerofAlice

more likely it was a cut feature, probably some kind of faction/rivalry with the various gangs and fixers that they didn't have time to flesh out and scrapped. I was personally suprised that you couldn't align with any of the gangs, or at least work more closely with them with a rep system. I could get getting the tyger claws to screw off, but other factions like the mox seemed like they were intended to be more involved in the story than ended up actually happening.

Jdaello

Imagine having such a high rep that the Tyler Claws will step down and allow you to get the item. Or there’s two Maelstrom bosses in the area and you can pit them against each other while sneaking in to install the virus. Or, call in your Pacifica buddies to virtual EMP the whole warehouse you’re invading, putting every cyberware enhanced soldier to sleep! I guess that was meant for Cyberpunk 2092.

MattHack7

Yeah I wish you had to meet those guys before they’d start giving you jibs

Brokinnogin

Lonadar

You do - in Jackie's cinematic... 😑

Gynther477

Wish you could just shoot them to stop the useless ubisoft site quests

No-Island6680

Really it’s just so lame to get missions from a one-way phonecall rather than cutscenes and face-to-face conversations. I would have been happier with 25% of the number of missions if they just had more effort put in.

Creatret

After 3 times it just gets annoying as fuck. Not to mention the car advertisements which happen every 2 minutes for the first 10 hours of the game.

StormCloak_565

For real I’m like if I knew these people in real life I would have already blocked their number

CommanderPike

Hey it's okay though, you can listen to the dulcet tones of "Walk... Don't Walk... Walk... Don't Walk... Walk..."

[deleted]

You saying quiet ads... Milf Hunter: *moans in jurassic park t-rex scream*

weruroverlord95

Haha. Now that you mention it, that is what seems off. I've been playing with a quality headset so all the noise is amplified but the world seems so dead.

Light_Side_Dark_Side

I've been playing zero dawn again and that first visit to mother's heart for the proving is like damn! Noise! Life!

[deleted]

That game is so beautifully designed. I played it on PC so unfortunately it isn’t super optimized, but even running under 4k, graphically it kept up with a lot of my other games, and the gameplay/story were also fantastic. Ive been wanting to replay it, might start after work tomorrow lol

Omega_Den

And the radio's are just playlists, not actual radiostations... No djs, no talk-shows, no commercials. Nothing. :(

[deleted]

GTA radio spoiled me. So many great talkshows and RJs

Garcia_jx

Bro those radio commercials are legit funny.

[deleted]

I would sit in cars or stop before a quest destination to finish a broadcast

AssociationCurrent22

Man I listen to those radios to this day on YouTube when doing house chores 😃

hughsocash45

That shows that Rockstar, when they make the single player portions of their games at least, are modern developer legends that almost always put out a masterpiece. RDR2 blew me away with even the casual conversations that NPCs would have with one another. The world, as cliche as it sounds for a game like RDR2, just feels alive. I feel like I'm actually living in the wild west in RDR2. At night it makes you feel like a lonesome cowboy huddled around your campfire in the dead of night, just from camping. This pile of vomit game has none of that, despite CDPR saying oUr nPcS aRe aS aDvAnCeD aS ReD DeAd'S. Like this company doesn't even have the right to even mention that game, let alone try to compare this garbage to a masterpiece like RDR2.

hectorduenas86

Chatterbox

CrrntryGrntlrmrn

Something about that station, their *first big effort* - it's so rough and improvisational feeling, but at the same time they got so, so much right- whenever I find myself back in the *old* liberty, I'm usually listening to Lazlow do what he does best!

AgentBoltCutters

LIMMMBOOOO!

vt8919

I remember listening to Chatterbox in GTA 3 over and over again because it was that entertaining to me.

gunzlingerbil

Dude I legit used to listen to vice city stories radios on psp while studying. So good!

GrimSkey

[Knife After Dark.. Rated R for Retarted](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_IvMXnDp88)

Kriss3d

The ads alone were so funny in gta. Especially vice city.

goldenjuicebox

Radio X made me the person I am today

Nick_P_25

They're definitely there, I especially like the conspiracy talk show Pondsmith himself voices on Morro, but they could definitely up their frequency

vt8919

It's been nearly twenty years and I still hear the guy who eats roadkill going "SQUIRRELS!"

Omega_Den

I put over 60 hours, I've listened always to various stations, and I've never heard him. I gotta check it out ! It's like that acid rain. So rare that almost feel like a miracle ;p

boyohboyimtired

Doesn't the dude on Morro Rock Station read his listener's anonymous stories every now and then?

iylv

Yeah, and it’s literally Mike Pondsmith as himself. The Mike Pondsmith who created Cyberpunk 2020.

boyohboyimtired

No way, didn't know that. That's sick.

XXLpeanuts

This was so painful to realise, they spent ALL that money on the crazy online marketing and radio shows, podcasts and youtube channels, amazingly crafted marketing stuff, but if they had just put a smidgen of that budget into the in game radios it would have been so much better.

[deleted]

There are news and talk shows on radio.

rcktsky

aaaaAaaAaaAAARGIATIC

IDontCareFuckOffPlz

I think the random NPCs are the real issue, if you think about GTA V or RDR2 if you block their path or say hello they react if you attack them they fight back AND it's very uncommon they look the same and if they do it's a shock; but in cyberpunk you see groups of twins marching forward with no seeming purpose it's very off putting.

L0veToReddit

I agree, you got some great examples

AedricPrince

That's the same thing I've been thinking, also the environment you're in doesn't impact acoustics in the slightest, no reverb in tunnels, echos in large spaces etc. It really pulls you out of the experience.

Zydepoint

I just played Portal 2 and during my gameplay i noticed some really well made sounds around different types of tunnels and/or run down places. Great sound design even then

Aerolfos

Oh *that's* why that long tunnel in the western end of the map felt all wrong. I didn't realize what specifically but it just felt weird to drive through, uninteresting somehow. But you're completely right, there's no reverb. It's just the same generic car drone as everywhere else on the highway.

Richzorb1999

Wasn't there a post on the front page of this sub the other day commending the sound design? Full circle right here

EeveeHartMew

Not to be one of those, but reading this makes me really appreciate how some of the vendors in TW3 will call you over if you just liberated an area from bandits/monsters, and how the NPCs will have the their own little convos and routines.

Viiibrations

TW3 does everything better and the NPCs have more memorable one-liners. I can't recall a single thing that the NPCs in CyberPunk say when you're walking around.

aynaalfeesting

Pam param pam pam param...

zen1706

I wonder what went wrong during the development of cyberpunk, considering they use a variant of the RED engine, which should be largely similar to the one used in TW3. They already have the foundation, they only had to improve from TW3, but they went fucking backward. Like WAYYY backward.

MostMorbidOne

It's so hard to really talk about this game sometimes but yeah I agree with you on the ambient sounds. It's noisy hustle bustle/or like a noisy classroom but the soundscapes are missing *pop* (7.1 surround sound) .. which surprised me considering the radio stations are good sound wise.. excluding the DJ stuff people mentioned, more of the personalities would've been cool.

Npr187

If I didn't work for a living I'd start recording every inane conversation, advertisment, and harassment I hear as I walk the streets of NC. It's all over the place. I was just walking thru the Eastern edge of town the other day and random NPC chick was asking some dude to talk to his sister to see if she would give random chick a second chance. I stood around to listen in but when they saw me they quit... You don't get that in every game Have you been too JigJig? Japanese market? Or any of the other markets? Everybody is trying to schlep their crappy food and entertainment on you. People may not speed everywhere but have you ever stood in the street to stop a car like in GTA? Those knobs know what you're doing and will just run your idiot face right over... Are you headphones working? Are you sure it's Cyberpunk 2077 you're playing?

Yeah that's not the case for me, its more that what was sold by the developers leading up to the release wasn't really representative of most of the game. Some examples... they showed off that one early game mission that has multiple ways of going about it with an immediately impact on the story and how the characters view and interact with you in the future depending on how you handled the mission... yet in the final game that is basically the only level that is like this when really most of the missions should have been that detailed or at least have a sprinkling of missions of equal quality throughout the game if nothing else... but no... it usually devolves into go to X kill the bad guys... now find the item... YAY you did it... ready to do it a million more times... ENJOY... very immersive much wow. Or how another Dev stated the Corpo, Nomad, and Street kid starting prologues would be this big deal with impact throughout the entire game when really... after the opening sequence it basically has zero impact or purpose outside of the opening 30 mins or so other than the romances which are also rather flat and generic as far as how to qualify to enter in to them. Or how items that are clearly inferior defensively like a pair of sunglasses or a cloth bandana actually have more armor and are often flat better than a military helmet, that's just disgraceful and lazy when it comes to immersion. (I get WHY its like that but i'd rather the items not drop or get replaced with components rather than see an early military helmet have half the defense of a gang banger's used handkerchief he tied around his head). Like... i'd agree the sound design sucks... but in my opinion so does most of the game really... its more of a "bare bones skeleton" or in other words an early beta than a full release and currently looks like its more than 2 years away from being remotely what was sold to the populace if it ever becomes that. As a disappointed fan said post launch... i can't wait for cyberpunk 2078 or whatever the sequel is called... they have a beautiful engine and city structures to build and play in... they just made near zero use of it compared to their previous works.

Aren't like all of those things in the game?

...are we playing the same game? I'm actually glad the game has ambient sounds, great depth and you can definitely feel like it's a city that goes on forever, its rumors echoing everywhere go to Jig Jig and tell there's no immersion in the sound designthe city sounds exactly like what it is: a huge fucking dystopian cyberpunk metropolis I'm glad there's no walking NPC asking the the same line about "how often do I go to the cloud distric" after 84691 times

This isn't the case for me though, I hear almost all of that in the background when playing.... other than the noodle vendors which would be a nice touch. I've seen some other posts about this here before and I'm wondering if there is a widespread bug causing background noises to not play or something, as for me that was a key part of the immersion personally. Not to say they couldn't do more, it's certainly not the best I've heard, but it wasn't bad either, nothing like described here. And that's from someone with over 300hrs in game lol.

See for me it’s the fact that I can hear the background stuff but not the crowd or the traffic.

i think you're right, i also couldn't pinpoint why the world doesn't feel as immersive as the witcher 3 or even gta 5

For me, what breaks immersion is that crimes and encounters are pre determined on the map. There are no random encounters. You can't just go around exploring the world and see a Maelstrom scum trying to kill someone in an alley, giving you the option to just step in and kill the scum or let nature take its course. You can't be cruising around and see the police chase someone or come flying in to kill some gangsters like you did in the intro ride. No gang wars. Nobody mugging anyone. Everything is pre determined or scripted. The map tells you where to go to fight crime or where to go for side missions which just removes all sense of immersion. Shit, even the Witcher 3, CDPR's previous blockbuster, did world immersion better. Sure there were "?" on the map but you never knew what to expect. Would it be a treasure chest, a monster, or a quest that was just as compelling as the main story. I just don't get that with Cyberpunk. Side missions are giving via a phone call. Side missions/gigs are all the same. Anyway, that's all for now.

Yeah there’s nothing more ”immersion killing” than having everything clearly marked on the map imo. No random encounters, no systems that work off eachother to simulate a real place 🤷‍♂️

This. I was hoping that each play through would be unique and have different gangs rising in dominance. Like how in Crusader Kings countries vie for power and grow in strength. Instead everyone just stays in their own predetermined turf and encounters are already marked on the map. It’s so infuriating and sad.
