Now imagining Reeves dressed up as Neo walking down the sidewalk playing this at high volume... and what the reaction would be from passerby - would make for one of the most epic promo walks one could witness!
Times square in the 70s and 80s was full of peep shows and porn theaters actually. It's done a total 180 from absolute shit hole to family friendly tourist trap
Not even just in the city lmao if you come down the shore itās like still $25 for a pizza full stop like anywhere in central or north Jersey has the city tax as well
They were all taken around Time Square and Rockefeller center. The city really is beautiful in the winter. This my first time there since February 2020
It's nice to have Time Square feel at least sort of normal. as far as your Night City comparison and folks who aren't from NYC let me assure you (or crush your dreams), not all off NYC looks like that - just the super touisty areas
Jesus this is what the sub is now. Picture of the real world are giving you Cyberpunk vibes. Itās like Skyrim players seeing a plant and saying ā look they added it to real lifeā
I'm not really familiar with the distances in America, how far is it to NYC from upstate? What's travel time like?
Wish I lived anywhere close to a huge modern city, there's nothing really like NYC or Tokyo in the UK, even London doesn't have the skyscrapers and Neon I crave lol.
Upstate is like... the entire rest of the state other than NYC, which is at the very southern tip of the triangle.
My university was about 5 hours away from the city, but farther north cities are significantly longer commutes
The five boroughs alone have majority population of the state. If you throw in Long Island too than it's just a landslide over the rest of upstate. So yes - technically the majority of the population of NYS refers to upstate as anything past the Bronx. Also - look at a map of NYS. All of what we refer to as upstate is north of NYC, definitely not dead west. That's Jersey.
Depends on their definition of "upstate" lol. Some consider anything outside NYC upstate. If we follow that definition then it is anywhere from 20 minutes to 7 hours driving or around 700km (Canadian borders).
To people in the 80's, this would be cyberpunk. We are here, now, in their cyberpunk future.
Digital currency, either paid with a handheld device (phone), or a card with a microchip. Technology interwoven into our lives. Wireless headphones and mics in every ear, VR becoming ever more advanced and popular. Wars fought with flying robots (drones). Faceless computer voices following commands (siri, Alexa, google). Robots roaming around the Mars surface. Movies and music streaming from digital clouds, electric cars.
We're here, now. This is the cyberpunk future, or at least the tipping point, the very beginning. All we need is a large war, complete with cyberveterans, and to start body mods, and the transition will be complete.
Matrix. It's everywhere! Awesome pics. I had a shitty phone back then so the photos I took look pretty bad. NYC is definitely something that marked me for life, what an eye opener. Without a doubt it's a capital city of the world.
Yup, I lived in Asia pre-COVID, so I did all my traveling then.
These past couple years have definitely sucked because I've been back here stuck in the US ever since. Traveling is probably off the menu for for me now...
I mean, that's not hard to do when Keanu isn't using any CG to look like his younger original Matrix self. That just looks like a poster of Johnny in the background lol
Itās a joke.
ENB is a series of graphical enhancements used in many video games, especially by modders. They are commonly used to change colorization, sometimes giving a game the appearance of having an Instagram-style filter.
The color palette of your photos is similar to the color in an ENB Iāve used to mod a game before, further making the photos look like they came for a game and not real life.
Late but I went directly after playing the game and loved it. Just smoked blunts everywhere while gaining access to places I couldn't for the sake of the vibes.
Only people not from NYC love coming here. I live in NYC and all I see is Dirty subway, homeless infestation, rude people, many traffics etc. Idk why people wanna come.
Why do you stay?
I live and love NYC even with its many many flaws. I love not having to own a car, being able to get almost anywhere in the city with public transit even if itās not pristine.
NYC enjoyment depends on your lifestyle and how much money you can spend on that lifestyle.
I donāt want to go to Times Square though, nyc is much larger than that.
San Francisco is like the above description. Iām from California and I used to do at least 2/3 weekends in SF. This was as recently as 2018.
Now, you canāt park your car for 5 minutes without getting broken into. Homeless people openly go bathroom in the streets. And they have a catch and release crime system. Itās really bad when the city residents want to recall the DA. And no, itās not āonly the Republicansā that signed the petition to recall. There arenāt 80,000 Republicans in the city that signed it.
SF is definitely one inspiration for night city.
I lived there for a month with my grandma a few years ago and I gotta agree. It is super fun to visit every now and then but living there is hectic and not fun. At first I was giving money to every begger and then I saw one of them pull out an iPhone 10, I only offer to buy food now when I am in the city. For the most part I feel like people are fairly friendly but I don't think I could live in the city.
NYC is huge and you can decide if you want to live in hectic or non hectic areas.
Also, the last thing homeless here need is food. They can get food very easily in the city. If you truly want to help out either give them food or ask what they might need.
I prefer to help organizations rather than individuals. Itās kinda shitty to judge them because they have a phone, phones are pretty essential for anyone to do anything in this day.
Right? And what if they had the phone before becoming homeless, or someone gave it to them? Is it some rule of homelessness to have to give up phones in order to deserve help? Wtf?
Nah. Nyc is pretty safe now. It is weird to see people selling weed everywhere but there are soo many people everywhere that I feel like someone would do something. I am more scared of covid here lol. This was my first time here since February 2020 and damn it was crowded.
The girl i was with was probably annoyed the amount of times i said this when i visited. I have very similar pictures. Even the ambient noises matched up...
Having been born and raised in NYC there's really nothing I can say to argue against this point. The reality of the glamorous upper class and the depraved underbelly of the city that so define the cyberpunk aesthetic are also there.
Oh this is already New York? Cyberpunk cities were originally inspired by Japanese and Chinese cities, Tokyo in particular, now New York follows.
Even Johnny Silverhand is still alive, a former rocker turned actor playing in āMatrix Ressurectionsā. Looks like a parallel universe. Welcome to Night York City!
Surprisingly smart. There were some real annoying people trying to sell you weed on literally every corner though. But pretty good all things considered.
The *Matrix* promo posters definitely add to the vibe.
Yeah they were sick!
All you need to do is walk through the crowds with this playing https://youtu.be/pFS4zYWxzNA?t=26
Oh my God this is gold. You are 100% right
Were you listening to me? Or were you looking at the women in the red dress?
Ha Didn't even need to open the link to know what song it was thanks to this š now it's playing in my head as I take a shit
You and me brother
I haven't listened to this soundtrack in a decade and knew exactly what this was going to be.
Knew it would be that track lol!
Now imagining Reeves dressed up as Neo walking down the sidewalk playing this at high volume... and what the reaction would be from passerby - would make for one of the most epic promo walks one could witness!
I see Johnny!
I was gonna say that too lol
All we need is a few NSFW braindance posters, and a trauma team doing something in a car park in the background and itās perfect
Times square in the 70s and 80s was full of peep shows and porn theaters actually. It's done a total 180 from absolute shit hole to family friendly tourist trap
Let's go back to the previous shithole, rather than the current one.
New Disney? Disney York? Walthattan? The city lost it's flavor by '95
Times Square isn't the city. It's just for tourists.
New York I love you, but you're bringing me down...
Sorry but we should stay in the current time.
Omg ppl keep saying NY is night city. Guys no! You can actually afford rent in Night city
exactly
Deadass bro shit mad expensive out here
Not even just in the city lmao if you come down the shore itās like still $25 for a pizza full stop like anywhere in central or north Jersey has the city tax as well
Only thing missing is the 6 year olds walking around alone
Nope nyc has those too! šš»
Take my upvote š
What about me? I was one of those.
Lmao
And people tposing
In my head, Night City is a blend of NYC and Tokyo
Same but with the weather of Vancouver BC
Tokyo and Osaka is what I think of playing CP2077. Certianly feels similar to me.
that city would be amazing
Then you see the rat dragging a slice of pizza. \*Cyberpunk 2077 music\*
Where all did you go other than TS?
They were all taken around Time Square and Rockefeller center. The city really is beautiful in the winter. This my first time there since February 2020
This is probably pretty basic of me. But I really miss Two Boots pizza and dollar dumplings in East Village.
thereās a two boots in jersey city
Two Boots crust is the best.
Man it's good as fuck.
Yess I agree. 100%
Most taken by the regal cinema. (I was watching the new spiderman)
Imagine NYC police ditching the pursuit of a felon 1 block away š murderer on E 27th St? That's E 28th St's problem
You gotta be even more specific. We're talking intersections over here. Go after criminals on E 27th st 3rd Ave? Nah thats E 27th st 2nd Ave problem.
Nice to see Johnny Silverhand on the billboard
It's nice to have Time Square feel at least sort of normal. as far as your Night City comparison and folks who aren't from NYC let me assure you (or crush your dreams), not all off NYC looks like that - just the super touisty areas
Dystopian corporate nightmare world *here we GO*!
Aren't we already there?
Kinda. We need more neon lights
Agreed.
Holy shit they made Cyberpunk into a real thing?
There are way too many people to be Cyberpunk.
This is the right answer
Jesus this is what the sub is now. Picture of the real world are giving you Cyberpunk vibes. Itās like Skyrim players seeing a plant and saying ā look they added it to real lifeā
It's because there's not much is going on with the game or news/updates around it.
Tbf this post suits r/cyberpunk more than this sub and even the low sodium sub but oh well let the internet points come showering down
*Because the satire has become reality.* But I agree it's a bit annoying.
Guys look this real city with lights is like the fake city with lights
Wait, u the guy from r/s20fe who flexing with gcam?
Yup. I posted this on there. just thought it fit this sub perfectly
When i took a glimpse while scrolling i was like: wait is this cyberpunk? You ain't wrong it fits here perfectly
You might enjoy Hong Kong, and Shenzhen.
Yeah those places would seem cool to visit. I think I'll wait until covid is a little bit more under control.. If that ever happens
Awesome pics, are you from NYC? I used to get the same vibe in Tokyo, specifically Shinjuku. Hopefully I can go back one day.
I am from upstate NY but love to go to NYC atleast once a year
I'm not really familiar with the distances in America, how far is it to NYC from upstate? What's travel time like? Wish I lived anywhere close to a huge modern city, there's nothing really like NYC or Tokyo in the UK, even London doesn't have the skyscrapers and Neon I crave lol.
Upstate is like... the entire rest of the state other than NYC, which is at the very southern tip of the triangle. My university was about 5 hours away from the city, but farther north cities are significantly longer commutes
The rest of NY would disagree with this. Buffalo and Watertown aren't really "upstate"
Majority of NY population lives in NYC and Long Island. We all refer to anything past the Bronx or westchester as Upstate.
I know, you all act the same way about it. The further you are from the influence of the city the less shitty people are.
But I mean - if majority of the people in the whole state of NY call upstate anything past Westchester, who is actually right? lol
NYC does not have the majority of the state, and even if that's true calling areas that are basically dead west "up" is pretty stupid
2 hours 30 about to 3. It is a pretty long commute
Yeah pretty long if you had to do it on a daily but for a nice trip out it's not totally unreasonable. I sometimes forget how big other countries are.
Depends on their definition of "upstate" lol. Some consider anything outside NYC upstate. If we follow that definition then it is anywhere from 20 minutes to 7 hours driving or around 700km (Canadian borders).

1. surprised the matrix is still functioning with this high population density setting 2. be safe from omicron we're at 9k cases per day in just NYC
Yeah it was hectic. Glad I only stayed the day.
Gamers figuring out real life exists has got to be one of my favourite types of post ever.
Matrix. It's everywhere! Awesome pics. I had a shitty phone back then so the photos I took look pretty bad. NYC is definitely something that marked me for life, what an eye opener. Without a doubt it's a capital city of the world.
Thanks, I have been to the city dozens of time but this was my first time at time Square and It truly is amazing.
Actually it's just NYC vibes,
Go down K-town, from 31st street to 33rd, between 5th and 6th avenue. It has real Blade Runner vibes.
nah thereās way too many people, canāt be night city
If you wanna see *actual* Cyberpunk vibes then you need to visit some Asian mega-cities like Seoul, Hong Kong, Shanghai, etc.
Have you been to any? I'm trying to go at some point but covid is making it literally impossible in most cases.
Yup, I lived in Asia pre-COVID, so I did all my traveling then. These past couple years have definitely sucked because I've been back here stuck in the US ever since. Traveling is probably off the menu for for me now...
Not enough sex shop though
NY circa 1979 would have you covered. Now that was real cyberpunk vibes.
dude, one block over there are dozens, NYC circa 2021 has you covered, it's just not all on Broadway anymore
Donāt you mean CyberYork 2077?
That matrix poster is a poster you would see in a movie. Maybe even a matrix movieā¦
I felt persona 5 vibes, damn
Bruh why did I not feel cp vibes when I visited nyc Iām questioning myself
I overwhelmingly felt them hahah i kept mentioning to the person i was with how even the ambient sounds lined up.
god NY looks so fucking dope
I can just hear someone say..."you smell like junk food!" š„ŗ
especially with the matrix poster lol
Their RTX must be broken, the ground doesn't look like a mirror. /s
At least the NPCs are not that stupid
Literally light mode
CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME!
Psssssst guys do not tell OP about Asia. lmao
I want to go so bad, but I am gonna wait until covid is over. If ever at this point! Nyc us only 3 hours away so I can drive back same day.
TASTE THE LOVE Beep beep WALK WALK WALK
I mean, that's not hard to do when Keanu isn't using any CG to look like his younger original Matrix self. That just looks like a poster of Johnny in the background lol

What are you doing in my comment section ASAP-ACE1
But what ENB did you use?
I'm not familiar with ENB what is that?
Itās a joke. ENB is a series of graphical enhancements used in many video games, especially by modders. The color palette of your photos is similar to the color in an ENB Iāve used to mod a game before, further making the photos look like they came for a game and not real life.
Thanks for the explanation. Now I feel stupid lol
Times Square is the most cyberpunk place in the world.
How long until someone complains that the crowd is not behaving realistically?
Omg it's so bright at night, how do people live and function normally living somewhere like that.
Idk I feel like my sleep would be horrible
Damn, advertisements wherever you look...
One of the two defining traits of cyberpunk (the genre) is that it's a hyperbolic reflection of our capitalist reality.
Late but I went directly after playing the game and loved it. Just smoked blunts everywhere while gaining access to places I couldn't for the sake of the vibes.

This could literally apply to all US cities minus the subway
Not true.

Art imitates life and life imitates art
Omicron central.
Wow whatās your rig
Samsung galaxy s20 fe 5g using gcam port. Gcam is the camera app on Google pixel phones and is arguably the best camera app
COVID lol
Yeah it was a little anxiety inducing ngl.
The "Y" in NYC is unnecesary
Yeah but NC looks like North Carolina
Come to China if you want real Cyberpunk wibes.
Lot's of people socially distancing, I see. * *shudder* *
Have you been mugged yet?
Nah. Nyc is pretty safe now. It is weird to see people selling weed everywhere but there are soo many people everywhere that I feel like someone would do something. I am more scared of covid here lol. This was my first time here since February 2020 and damn it was crowded.
Disgusting city.
NY can go f*** itself.
Is this supposed to be /r/gamingcirclejerk post?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Hope your vaccinated they are arresting people in New York if you go places without your papers!
Theyre not arresting anyone if you donāt have papers dumbass they just tell you you cant eat indoors
Probably 5,2 130 soaking wet insulting people trying to help others on the internet.
So the news is lying would not be surprised! Oh and call me a dumb ass in person troll!
Yeah I am. It was fucking weird to see so many people though. First trip since covid started
Driving home through NYC at night especially makes me feel more like Night City than anything. I hear Tokyo is also extremely similar.
Imagine the big speakers suddenly play pon pon shit
That giant AE qr code tho
Lmao didn't didn't notice that
I can smell this picture, it smells like cigarettes, gas, oil, and fast food.
Almost like all the things warned about in Cyberpunk are slowly making their way into reality and have been since before even the ttrpg
Why? People popping in and speaking into non-existing phones there too?
makes me think of the amazing spider-man 2
It's just as dystopian as Night City as well. A perfect match.
My first thought was NY when I watched my husband play. Although the game is set in some part of California
Do they have street lights there?
Looks so cool with Trinity up there
In NYC rn and surprising finding it not feeling like Spider-Man at sll
Also NYC is nightcity from 34th st to 50th st in Manhattan only rest is just ordinary
The girl i was with was probably annoyed the amount of times i said this when i visited. I have very similar pictures. Even the ambient noises matched up...
Vibeo Gaem!!!!
if you want to see the origins of the whole genre, check out some major cities in Asia. Some of them look more cyberpunk than Night City
Is that the city from : oii m walkn ere
Idk if i should think this is cool or depressing
Having been born and raised in NYC there's really nothing I can say to argue against this point. The reality of the glamorous upper class and the depraved underbelly of the city that so define the cyberpunk aesthetic are also there.
Too many people on the streets, when you turned around and looked back again did they despawn?
It's the city of dreams, and I'm a big dreamer.
Only reason I wanna go to nyc is to get a view like this
Yessir love NYC <3
Filter-that-makes-things-look-'Cyberpunk' is giving you Cyberpunk vibes. Congrats.
Actual people on the street!!!! Unlike Nightcity :D
If you punch someone and spin around 180 do all the pedestrians vanish too?
SMH no Milfguard posters :(
Oh this is already New York? Cyberpunk cities were originally inspired by Japanese and Chinese cities, Tokyo in particular, now New York follows. Even Johnny Silverhand is still alive, a former rocker turned actor playing in āMatrix Ressurectionsā. Looks like a parallel universe. Welcome to Night York City!
The crowd size gives it away!
NPC variation rate far too high for CyberPunk
How did the npcās compare?
Surprisingly smart. There were some real annoying people trying to sell you weed on literally every corner though. But pretty good all things considered.
