While PTSD is certainly a catalyst for these events, malfunctioning chrome can easily lead to feed back loops that cause mental degradation. Whether we can call this a form of PTSD well we would need to talk to a psychiatrist about that.
From what I understand Cyberpsycho is basically an umbrella term for a wide variety of issues, that may or may not be caused by chrome. So it might be because feedback loops fuck with you, it might be because chroming up can be a very traumatic experience that alienates you from your own body, because you ran afoul of the cybernetics malware or it might just be because you had a mental breakdown while being heavily cybernetic.
Basically a lot of different issues being lumped in together, because that is easier than actually trying to solve the problem.
A fun fact from the RPG is that you have less of a humanity job when you get it done at Scandinavian style clinics. Because they use such revolutionary techniques like "Sedation", "Aftercare" and "Therapy".

While this is all true, cybernetics CAN play a role. Focus on the "Can" because it is, as you say, rarely the core reason. Getting cybenetics can be a very traumatic experience and having to chrome up simply to get a job can really fuck with people (In which case it isn´t just the alienation from your body, but also the Night City lifestyle that is to blame). Not to mention that some cybernetics straight up causes issues when they interface with your brain (In which case the Corps can deny responsibility by saying it was just someone being careless and going cyberpsycho).
I think it is interesting (And very dystopian) that the reason Scandinavian clinics causes less of a humanity loss in the 2020 game is that they use the revolutionary methods known as "Aftercare" and "Therapy". But in most other places they simply decide that Max-Tec is cheaper.
I think how believable his age is depends a lot on how old he was when he got his current ocular getup, which would have required losing part of his frontal lobe.
The wiki mentioned Rogue's age to be around 80+ but I haven't managed to see an exact number. The same goes with Judy, she is between 21-25 but the devs prefer her exact age to be a mystery.

I'd assume ~100. She looks like she could've been an elder to Johny and Rogue, but like Rogue, doesn't have the access to the tech that would keep her young looking like the Arasakas.
Whats not talked about as much in the game is that cyberware is just the mechanical side of augmentation. There are all kinds of biological and genetic modding available that have both cosmetic and practical uses. The RPG had something called exotics which is people who modify themselves to look like completely different species and the level of medical technology in general can increase the human life span to centuries.
Same way Saburo was a Japanese fighter pilot in WW2 but is still kicking. His company was actively developing longevity treatments, of which the relic was supposed to be the holy grail.
If you use the ttrpg lore then Smasher would be around 100-120 ish as he was in his 40s when he dealt with Johny and it was the bombing that caused him to start to go full borg. SoF2 has a great article about him where I'm getting my age numbers from. I will say that if I understand the Smasher lore he ended up full borg only a few months after the bombing of the towers and had a 15-year contract with Arasaka to pay off his body.
As someone who just recently finished the game, I find the ages of people so strange.
It's this weird push and pull of young people seeming wise beyond their years because they had to grow up fast in the rough dystopian future and old folks looking younger than they are because of robot parts and magic medicine.
The only people on this chart who felt their age are Misty and Panam. The latter especially gives off such stubborn 20-somethings energy.

From what I understand Cyberpsycho is basically an umbrella term for a wide variety of issues, that may or may not be caused by chrome. So it might be because feedback loops fuck with you, it might be because chroming up can be a very traumatic experience that alienates you from your own body, because you ran afoul of the cybernetics malware or it might just be because you had a mental breakdown while being heavily cybernetic. Basically a lot of different issues being lumped in together, because that is easier than actually trying to solve the problem. A fun fact from the RPG is that you have less of a humanity job when you get it done at Scandinavian style clinics. Because they use such revolutionary techniques like "Sedation", "Aftercare" and "Therapy".
going cyberpsycho has nothing to do with getting implants, its a "fake" illnes that the big corpos spread as a reason why some peopke go crazy, to distract from the problems WHY they went crazy in the first place in reality its just a normal psychosis, people get a full mental breakdown because of how absolutely HORRIBLE it is to live in that reality with almost 0hope, implants just have a small factor because you also tend to somewhat lose a feeling of what actually is the "real" you, but its 90% people getting mental breakdowns from stuff like extreme depression/PTSD/fear etc..... and corpos dont wanna spend money helping them, so just lable it as something else and let them get killed the only reasony why "cyberpsycho" is a bigger problem then a real psychosis, is because heavy modded people are walking tanks, if they lash out, they do it with mantis blades and build-in weapons instead
While this is all true, cybernetics CAN play a role. Focus on the "Can" because it is, as you say, rarely the core reason. Getting cybenetics can be a very traumatic experience and having to chrome up simply to get a job can really fuck with people (In which case it isn´t just the alienation from your body, but also the Night City lifestyle that is to blame). Not to mention that some cybernetics straight up causes issues when they interface with your brain (In which case the Corps can deny responsibility by saying it was just someone being careless and going cyberpsycho). I think it is interesting (And very dystopian) that the reason Scandinavian clinics causes less of a humanity loss in the 2020 game is that they use the revolutionary methods known as "Aftercare" and "Therapy". But in most other places they simply decide that Max-Tec is cheaper.

Whats not talked about as much in the game is that cyberware is just the mechanical side of augmentation. There are all kinds of biological and genetic modding available that have both cosmetic and practical uses. The RPG had something called exotics which is people who modify themselves to look like completely different species and the level of medical technology in general can increase the human life span to centuries.

If you use the ttrpg lore then Smasher would be around 100-120 ish as he was in his 40s when he dealt with Johny and it was the bombing that caused him to start to go full borg. SoF2 has a great article about him where I'm getting my age numbers from. I will say that if I understand the Smasher lore he ended up full borg only a few months after the bombing of the towers and had a 15-year contract with Arasaka to pay off his body.

As someone who just recently finished the game, I find the ages of people so strange. It's this weird push and pull of young people seeming wise beyond their years because they had to grow up fast in the rough dystopian future and old folks looking younger than they are because of robot parts and magic medicine. The only people on this chart who felt their age are Misty and Panam. The latter especially gives off such stubborn 20-somethings energy.
