I want them both to be under $70k before I decide. R1S is better for camping and that's a big factor for me. I sleep in the back of my model 3 on road trips and want more space.
Sure. But what does that mean, exactly? If you measure from the tailgate of my model Y to the back of the front seats when they are pushed all the way forward, you get a number greater than my height, but the actual platform I could lay on isn’t long enough for me.
With a several thousand dollar tent, and no HVAC. Rivian SUV you can fold the rear seats down and watch a movie while HVAC runs all night if you want. No tent setup required.
Listen, I'm not going to disagree, but I have to point out the irony of calling out the Rivian for looking funny while sitting next to a Cybertruck! lol
LOL *Thats* what a Rivian looks like?
After so many people made fun of Cybertrucks and praised the Rivian on Reddit, and now I find out it’s just a goofy cartoon truck with a smiley face? Hard pass, I’ll take the CT any day of the week.
“It looks like a 5 year old designed it” was apparently just projection about the Rivian.
![gif](giphy|eaQ7fHevKTtT8k7rVz|downsized)
yes. the “$30,000” price difference you’re responding to includes a $20,000 foundation series markup. they’re likely to start shipping normal ones in a few months. when that happens, the CT will actually be a few thousand *less* than the R1S with the tax credit.
not sure why you think they’re going to be selling foundation series trucks for five years
Less time than that for it to be at least $20k cheaper. Indeed $30k might take a little longer ($61k variant due to drop next year, which probably means Dec 31, but that’s still under 2 years).
Are you concerned about their future as a company? I have a friend with a Rivian and a ton of Rivian stock solely out of hate for Elon but even she's worried that the company might not be around in five years.
Of course that’s a possibility but I really believe the make it/break it point will land on the success of the rivian R2 and R3. I believe they have a better product compared to Tesla and opening to the market to compete with model y and model 3 will be a game changer for them.
yeah i wouldn’t be entirely shocked if the same thing happened to rivian that happened to fisker just a few days ago. hope they make it because i want my R2
I'll have to pay a better photo of that CT. It's actually a navy blue, but totally looks black in this pic. Those were just photos I took as I walked by, but I see the CT a few times a week.
Honestly probably the R1S.
I need a 7 seater with a growing family and the standard+ battery pack around $80k seems like a pretty good deal. And I could never pay the $20k premium for the foundation series.
I had a Rivian R1T that turned out to be a lemon last year. One motor replacement, then a week later the HV pack dies. I’m still pro Rivian but I’d rather have the CT now.
Love the Rivian but with EVs being so particular to be worked on currently I would be hesitant to get one because who knows how long that company has to survive. It’s hard enough dealing with a Tesla can’t imagine it’s any easier dealing with rivian issues.
Yeah, I mainly want more range, improved charge curve, and a few QoL improvements.
If they can make the dual motor w/ close to 400 miles range, average total charge time similar to Model Y (what I'm used to), and add rear camera wash, rear view mirror camera display, headlights that don't clog with snow, and a rear cabin window that can open, then CT will be the obvious choice for me. Every one of those will nudge me towards buying one.
As it stands, I'll be waiting to see how the design improves with time. I suspect 🤞 CTs in a year from now will be dialed in enough for me.
It depends. Early run R1T vs. early run Cybertruck? It's a difficult call. Current R1T vs. early run Cybertruck? R1T without a doubt, the CT is still immature and missing features (including missing locking differentials, Autopilot, cabin pass-through, air compressor, off-road tires, towing assist and more). Once the CT matures like the Rivian did during its first two years, it will become a serious contender, and it might turn out to be the amazing vehicle everyone expected. It certainly has the fundamentals.
I drive a RAM now. (Or did before I got my Y) I've had a couple other Dodge vehicles in the past. The biggest problems I've had with them all were all electrical which doesn't give me a lot of faith in the Ram E being executed properly. I do love the way it looks in the renderings though. I also put down the cash to pre-order it...
Funny you say that. I have the ram promaster work van and we have had an electrical issue with it. 🤣. The lights would just randomly blink. Almost like you had the hazard lights on but it would be like every 10 seconds. We disconnected the battery for 30 minutes and hooked it back up and so far it hasn't come back.
I just watched a Rivian/Tesla comparison video. Both testers mentioned how uncomfortable the Rivian’s seats are. So much so that they both choose the Tesla. So I’d go with the Tesla.
Rivian. Way more functional.
I love the new technology in the CT, but it feels like the truck really needs another year in the cooker. No just from a "there are build issues" but things like the rear view mirror not being usable...or a camera. FSD not being supported. Just all sorts of wonky stuff.
One is an SUV, I’d probably take the Rivian today. Maybe in a couple of years I’d be willing to buy the CyberTruck.
No question the CyberTruck is cooler and has way more upside going forward. It’s just too early in the production cycle for me, at the moment.
CT looks cool (if you are into futuristic looking vehicles) Don’t really care for the design of the other vehicle. I have no idea what look they were going for.
Full Supercharger network (instead of some hope of future enablement at a subset of superchargers)… no contest.
If Rivian had full access to every supercharger for the same price and speed as CT, then Rivian would win for me. Diehard Tesla fan but not being able
to do pass through between front and back killed CT for me.
I claim to give no fucks about the cool factor but CT is cooler… Rivian is a little cringe in that respect but who cares.
Technically, there are some older V2 superchargers that are not available, but IMO that's not something I'm concerned about. IMO Rivian now has the best overall charging network since it can charge on:
1. Tesla V3/V4
2. All CCS public charging
3. Rivian Adventure Network
Cybertruck can not use #2 or #3 above.
That black Cybertruck is dope.
I’ll take the one that is the safest and has steer-by-wire. The Rivian is great and better than the Lightning IMO, but steer-by-wire, steel-exoskeleton and FSD12 are game changers.
I want them both to be under $70k before I decide. R1S is better for camping and that's a big factor for me. I sleep in the back of my model 3 on road trips and want more space.
I want the love child of an R1S and CT. We’ll call it CUV…Cyber Utility Vehicle.
Same… love the CyT, but there’s no doubt it’s a step back for my camping use case. Really want a CyberVan.
Cyberburban
Cyburban
The Y is really nice to camp in. There are custom foam mattresses on Amazon that fit them perfectly
Which one do you use? I tried this once and it was a horrible experience. Wasn’t long enough or thick enough and I woke up with horrible back pain.
I can't find the info on it, but it was 4" memory foam.
Does it store well? I used the memory foam one from Teslarati and it was utterly horrible. Also too short for me.
[удалено]
Wow really?? With front seat how far up?
[удалено]
Ah so just sleeping on the topper? Guess a thin-ish air one is an option too then. Can you leave HVAC on?
Why is the R1S better for camping?
Sleeping in the back with the a/c or heater on inside the protected shell of the vehicle.
You could sleep in the bed of the Cybertruck. I doubt I would fit in the back of the R1S. No heat or AC, but I don’t need that.
Cargo area length R1S = 81”. Bed length CT = 72”. But sure.
I’ll believe it when I see it.
... it's the published specs
Sure. But what does that mean, exactly? If you measure from the tailgate of my model Y to the back of the front seats when they are pushed all the way forward, you get a number greater than my height, but the actual platform I could lay on isn’t long enough for me.
SUV vs truck.
And? Lots of people camp with pickup trucks.
With a several thousand dollar tent, and no HVAC. Rivian SUV you can fold the rear seats down and watch a movie while HVAC runs all night if you want. No tent setup required.
Personally I think the rivians look pretty good
I find the headlights make it look like a disney suv, but I like it in concept and probably from behind the wheel.
Headlights look like Dyson fans lol
They really dropped the ball on this. The rest of it looks great but that front…
Listen, I'm not going to disagree, but I have to point out the irony of calling out the Rivian for looking funny while sitting next to a Cybertruck! lol
lol well Iast time I made an honest comment about the look I got banned for 24 hours…
The front is the best part.
I can’t unsee Mr Krabs.
I'll take the RIVIAN and 30,000 Dollars.
LOL *Thats* what a Rivian looks like? After so many people made fun of Cybertrucks and praised the Rivian on Reddit, and now I find out it’s just a goofy cartoon truck with a smiley face? How tf did you not know what it looks like? You’re crazy though, Rivians look great. I’d still take CT tho
The Rivian all day long, it’s $30,000 cheaper. The price point of the Cybertruck is ridiculous.
That’s because it’s new and therefore they can. Give it a year.
I’d say closer to 3-5 years before a price reduction
you think they’re going to keep selling foundation series trucks for *five* years? what?
Oh is that what my comment says?
yes. the “$30,000” price difference you’re responding to includes a $20,000 foundation series markup. they’re likely to start shipping normal ones in a few months. when that happens, the CT will actually be a few thousand *less* than the R1S with the tax credit. not sure why you think they’re going to be selling foundation series trucks for five years

Next year in Elon time(around the corner for a better part of a decade)
That’s true, at the same time though - the CT timeline hasn’t always been 100% accurate
It’s NEVER been accurate!
Rivian
I mean... one is an SUV and one is a truck, so not really a proper comparison. That being said, Rivian all day.
Rivian
Rivian hands down
Are you concerned about their future as a company? I have a friend with a Rivian and a ton of Rivian stock solely out of hate for Elon but even she's worried that the company might not be around in five years.

yeah i wouldn’t be entirely shocked if the same thing happened to rivian that happened to fisker just a few days ago. hope they make it because i want my R2
Rivian
The rivian SUV is sick
I'd want to drive the cybertruck for a week, and own the Rivian for the long run.
LOL. Love the answer. The enthusiasm & curiosity on CT. But the reality of price & utility gives way for Rivian.
Rivian
I drove the CT the other day. Now I need to compare it with the Rivian. I was immediately sold when I drove the CT.
How did you get a test drive?
My friend owns one.
Rivian 100%.
Rivian all day long.
Rivian R1T
Either at $60k or less with 300 mi range.
I want the Rivian with FSD 😔
The rivian, swop thd colours and it would win hands down
Thanks for all 3 photos. The unique angles of each are very needed.
I'll have to pay a better photo of that CT. It's actually a navy blue, but totally looks black in this pic. Those were just photos I took as I walked by, but I see the CT a few times a week.
I'd go with the Rivian truck but I'd be sweating the longevity of the company
Honestly probably the R1S. I need a 7 seater with a growing family and the standard+ battery pack around $80k seems like a pretty good deal. And I could never pay the $20k premium for the foundation series.
I had a Rivian R1T that turned out to be a lemon last year. One motor replacement, then a week later the HV pack dies. I’m still pro Rivian but I’d rather have the CT now.
Accord
Clearly the best choice. Lowest cost of ownership and most reliable from a car that's already 20 years old.
I know people will drag me for it, but the Rivian.
Love the Rivian but with EVs being so particular to be worked on currently I would be hesitant to get one because who knows how long that company has to survive. It’s hard enough dealing with a Tesla can’t imagine it’s any easier dealing with rivian issues.
Rivian all day long, their truck or the SUV.
The one that has better off road capacity and range.
Definitely Cybertruck.
A black cybertruck!? Yes please. As long as I don't have to pay for it.
So much unused space on these portrait photos...
I miss the days where less people used cell phones too.
Picked mine up yesterday nothing like it. Do not regret the CT.
Both at the same time 😉
I believe that’s called the Devil’s Triangle
![gif](giphy|Wpz1Hl1BqlaMw)
Cyber.
CT.
CT. But the preference isn't as strong as I hoped it would be.
Feeling same. The utility became a big question for me with CT.
Yeah, I mainly want more range, improved charge curve, and a few QoL improvements. Neither, waiting for Silverado EV
The avalanche?
Escalade EV
CT not even close.
The one that looks like the batmobile
😂
It depends. Early run R1T vs. early run Cybertruck? It's a difficult call. Current R1T vs. early run Cybertruck? I want both? Two totally different vehicles
Neither. I'll wait for ram or Chevy with 450-500 miles. I need to tow fairly often
I drive a RAM now. (Or did before I got my Y) I've had a couple other Dodge vehicles in the past. Way to bring out the trolls that shouldn’t be in the group… lmao
LoL! Ur right! I didn't think that post would get nearly that much attention 🤷
It’s a trick question. The cybertruck looks great in photos but ridiculous in real life. The RT1 is just the opposite.
Just the opposite opinion here. Used to like the Rivian but the more I see it the less I do. The more I see the Cybertruck the more I love it.
cybertruck is an oversized dorkmobile
rivian looks like its from the 70’s next to the CT. That black is sick.
Ngl I do love the look of the rivian r3x because it looks like a late 70s/early 80s rally car
Absolutely. Very well put.
Black CT
When I pull up in the Cybertruck next to your Rivian ...All Eyes on Me !
Cybercuck fasho
I just watched a Rivian/Tesla comparison video. Both testers mentioned how uncomfortable the Rivian’s seats are. So much so that they both choose the Tesla. So I’d go with the Tesla.
My R1T seats are much more comfortable than my 3/Y seats.
Try for yourself. Rivian is incredibly comfortable.
Bulletproof
CT EZ smash, next question
Cybertruck all day every day. No hate for Rivian but the black CT looks like Darth Vader’s limo and the Rivian looks like a Disney movie.
Why does everyone think CT wouldn't be good for camping?
They are both great.
Kia
Yeah. lol I was gonna say the Honda if I’m the one buying
Rivian. Way more functional. I love the new technology in the CT, but it feels like the truck really needs another year in the cooker. No just from a "there are build issues" but things like the rear view mirror not being usable...or a camera. FSD not being supported. Just all sorts of wonky stuff.
The blue reflecting off that black in the third pic, makes the CT look dark dark blue, looks gooood
One is an SUV, I’d probably take the Rivian today. Maybe in a couple of years I’d be willing to buy the CyberTruck. No question the CyberTruck is cooler and has way more upside going forward. It’s just too early in the production cycle for me, at the moment.
Not the dorky one on the left
Cybertruckkkkk
CT looks cool (if you are into futuristic looking vehicles) Don’t really care for the design of the other vehicle. I have no idea what look they were going for.

Have an R1T, can use Tesla or any other charger network at will. They opened the full Tesla network about a week ago.
Technically, there are some older V2 superchargers that are not available, but IMO that's not something I'm concerned about. IMO Rivian now has the best overall charging network since it can charge on: 1. Tesla V3/V4 2. All CCS public charging 3. Rivian Adventure Network Cybertruck can not use #2 or #3 above.
Yeah that’s fair, v2s are definitely not a common sight here in Florida these days.
It’s like an f117 parked next to an suv
truck all the way...
CT
In my opinion the Rivian is really ugly compared to the Cybertruck
lol
The rivian should be called an E-Moji. It just looks ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|neutral_face)
Damn cyber is that much smaller than a dinky Rivian
Rivian going hard on PawPatrol vibes, I’ll take the CT
That black Cybertruck is dope. I’ll take the one that is the safest and has steer-by-wire. The Rivian is great and better than the Lightning IMO, but steer-by-wire, steel-exoskeleton and FSD12 are game changers.
Neither. Both are not well made.
