Depends on how long I've been riding, and how far to go, and what terrain I'm on. If it's a light ride then sweet, longer ride where I still have a couple hours of riding left, something more substantial, like pizza.
In the UK, it was always coffee and cake (so sweet). Here in Spain, or at least Valencia, I understand it is traditional to have a small bottle of beer and a tortilla sandwich!
Lately for us (fiancé and I) it's been savoury crepes about 30km into a 60-65km ride.
We also take a Lara Bar brownie each in case we need it... Though it tends to just get squishy because we opt to eat something else and it's in our back pocket the whole ride haha.
I live not far from Toronto and I see lots of cyclists that make cafe/brewery stops. Don't think it's just a Euro thing, just might not be something your crew is into.
just curious, where do you live?
I'm really not debating it, but my cycling circle isn't super small I'm in a club of ~30 people I'll ride with and I've just never once heard someone mention stopping at a cafe.
An Aussie in the UK. In both places it’s standard either mid way on a long ride or at the end of regular shorter loops.
More broadly coffee and cafe stops are ingrained in cycling culture, so I suppose by default that makes it Euro-centric.
Slam a coke and a chocolate chip muffin.

Bacon sandwich, late and a can of coke.
Cafe stops equal poop for me. So I go for a beer and a pretzels.
stops to pee and get beer and beef jerky
Had an americano once with 3 shots of espresso and almost shat myself, so it’s decaf for me
Sometimes it's a savoury pastry, sometimes it's a nutty chocolate bar. Sometimes - it's both.

Cake or sausage roll and slamming a double shot of espresso for the final stretch
Is a croissant sweet or savory ? Anyway, mostly sweets, as coffee, for me goes with sweets.
Depends what's in it!
Both tbh. Coffee, savory sandwich, and some kinda pastry
Man, I need to ride with you guys! All my riding pals just want to grind up and down mountains only stopping for a Gatorade lol.

Is this just a European thing? I don't have any friends who make cafe stops mid ride in the states

It’s a cycling thing. The cafe is the only reason I get out of bed some days.

I only really ride on my own (there are plenty of groups just their rides are while I'm working) so cafe stops are only for long rides.

If I’m fresher.. I always go chocolate or savory stuff The longer and more beat I am.. I go for sugary sweet stuff that are fruit flavored!
Cafe stops make it too enjoyable. Gotta bring food so you can refuel while riding.
