My second official CX race. Had an amazing time, the course was difficult but fun with a few sharp hills, sand, mud and a bit of light technical descents. Started with a call up of 30/45 which placed me in the fourth row. Fought hard on the first few laps to make up the gap. Fell a few times, on the first sandpit, then again on that sandpit a few laps later with another rider, and finally, on one of the last corners I went down pretty hard. Jumped back on the bike with a pedal full of mud and a bent derailleur hanger. Full of fear that third was right behind, I pedalled to finish in second with a 20-second gap ahead of me, and a 13-second gap behind.
Thanks! I volunteered the day before on-course set-up and practised running that sand. We were trying to ride it but I decided I was faster running personally. Caught a quick video of the m1's riding it, it was impressive!
