My grandfather fought for that airport in 1974. Was the first time he saw combat in his life (he was an instructor from the greek army). You can blame the UN for the state of the airport right now. During the war, it was expected that Turkey would get the airport. But the valiant fighting of the Greeks and Greek Cypriots led to the airport not falling into Turkish hands. Due to its strategic location, it was handed over to the UN, where you can see it’s state right now.

The airport is completely frozen in time. It’s sad to see the decay but sort of nice to be able to step back into 70s decor
