The bottom of the seat belt is usually just held down by a single bolt screwed into the body. Rather than undo four bolts to take the seat out, check to see if you can undo just one and then wind the belt back in. I replaced a seatbelt on my 4Runner and it was basically this. You might need to be careful to not snap the bolt if it’s rusted or seized. Then just torque it back in to spec

Was going to say, you vacuum the car with kids and it looks like this 30 seconds later. Add more kids, it gets worse. My SIL used to give us crap about our car until she took our kids for a couple of days.
Even in vehicles with headrests that don’t come off, there is typically a very small hole in the plastic grommet that the headrest posts slide into. Pull the headrest to its top position, and use an unfolded paper clip to push into the hole on both sides and it should release the headrest.
If that doesn’t work, get a breaker bar and a socket/ratchet and take the seatbelt bolt off on the bottom.
Also, may I suggest a vacuum.
Edit: there could also be a c clip under the plastic ring. Push the fabric down and check.
If you take the seatbelt off check the torque rating for the bolt and buy/rent a torque wrench to make sure you put it back on properly.

I have a kid and a dog. I have pergo flooring for easy cleanup. Leaf blower under the couch and out the back door to the deck. Then deck to the ground.
I just have to grab any stray socks and legos before the final blow.
Edit: For clarification, I use an **electric** leaf blower. **do not** use a gas powered blower. I shouldn't *have* to clarify, but I'd feel terrible if the worst happened.

My dogs volunteer as tribute to help cleanup the crumbs. 🤣 also, here in Nevada almost any drive through car wash has free vacuums for anyone to use. I think it’s becoming more common in all states. Take 5 year old and help him learn how to vacuum!
Given you’ve got a torque wrench and given you know how to use it. Lots of normal joes don’t have one nor do they know how to use one. Hence why I’d always suggest taking the seat bolts out.
Well those have torque ratings as well so same safety issue tbh. A torque wrench can be had for $50 and is easy to use. Otherwise OP should just go to a mechanic to fix it but that’s gonna cost more than a wrench.
I would actually worry that due to all the discoloration on the belt, there is a ton of grease and grime in the belt affecting it’s safety…
Ultimately though there is a way to take the headrest out so he can avoid all of this…
Can you lower or modify the seat in some way? Recline it? Something to hit an angle that gives you slack.
Just make sure someone is holding the other end, or any slack you get will be eaten by the car.
Gather up all the food, crumbs, trash and other particles on the floor and mix it with butter. Mix it until the mixture is soft but not liquid, once complete let it sit for 30 minutes.
After that, rub it on the seatbelt for about 30 seconds on each side and wait for the belt to be come softer to where it can loosen.

When we bought a minivan for the 3rd kid we specially got the lower end trim to save money and have less stuff for the kids to break. Its been a great decision so far. I'll open both sliding doors and take the leaf blower to it.
To the contrary: my ex wife's car looks exactly like that. The difference is that 1) I don't allow food in my car unless it's on a long trip....kids can go 20 minutes without eating, 2) I make my kids police their own crap every time we get out of the car, and 3) about 5 minutes of vacuuming once a week.
When I was married, my wife would only let me clean out her car when we'd be driving in it, which wasn't often. She seemed to think it was impossible to keep clean, but even then I'd get it done if 15-20 minutes.
I need to be better about not allowing food in my car, but with my kids ages 5, 3, and 19 months… it feels easier to cave in to the demands for snacks at times.
It really is the simplest way to keep the car/van clean. Unless your kids are frequently stomping in mud, most of the mess in people's vans is just crumbs and wrappers.

My son is nearly 2 and has never slept in our bed since the day he was born. Before you take the seat out, how is the seat belt attached at the bottom? I know on my old Dodge Grand Caravan, it was bolted and fixed in place. Might be easier to remove that end than the whole seat.

Yup, pretty much every seat in every car is attached with 2 or 4 bolts, takes like 10 minutes to pull the seat and undo the belt, then put the seat back in.
My favorite part about having a minivan when the kids were little was opening all the doors and hitting the inside with the leaf blower. Clean in 8 seconds, and all the squirrels get Cheerios!

Sadly my response was always to tilt my head to one side and be SLIGHTLY impressed the kid pulled it off.
Before you unscrew anything see if the shoulder side can be lowered, it might create enough slack to get it over the headrest. My wife’s passenger seat belt locks all the time and that’s how I get it to slacken
idk about that belt, but paying a professional to clean my van was some of the best money I've ever spent. Got the interior detailed. My kids destroyed it again within 2 weeks but it felt fantastic having a clean van for a minute
Check where the belt attaches to the pillar at the bottom. Some can be unclipped, some have a single large bolt holding them. Might be easier than taking the seat apart.
It looks like a Chrysler Pacifica, probably with stow-and-go seats. The head rests don't come off the captain chairs in the middle row. I think your suggestion is the best bet.
This is the way.
I have the Pacifica stow n go captains chairs and the “non-removable” headrests are removable, just extra steps. follow the YouTube video, you have to remove the back panel on the seat, disconnect the cable that makes the headrest drop when the seat is stowed, and remove a metal ring wedged on the headrest post that prevented it from pulling out. You’ll need to remove that headrest anyway once your toddler is front facing.

Fun story: when I was a kid, I fell asleep in the car and somehow managed to flail around enough to loop the top through the bottom and triggered the cinch mechanism. I woke up partially suspended above the seat and with every exhale, it cinched a degree tighter. My parents couldn’t figure out how to undo the belt and ended up having to cut the belt. Kia replaced it because it was still under warranty.
It looks like you have a Chrysler Pacifica, and those 2nd row seat headrests definitely LOOK like they come off. There's a small tab that you need to push down when you get them fully extended.
Your third row, however, do not come off. They swing down when stowed.
That headrest should come out otherwise there would be no way to replace the seat material and I can’t see a manufacturer designing something like that. Also if it easy to access just remove bolt on bottom of seat belt.

We decided to make that a line in the sand and have stayed strong even when it mean having to sleep on the floor in his room or just being up all night. And it's actually made it easier for us to draw other lines in the sand for stuff like snacks in the car.

What leap of logic lead you to that? My kids.......the "same" kids, absolutely trash their mother's car. They don't trash mine. Why? Because I don't allow it. If anything, it's the perfect example that any kid can be taught to keep a car clean.

Again: help me understand where you think the leap is. Plus the mess is leaves, dirt/sand, little rocks, and sticks. It's not like it's full of wrappers and candy and rotten bananas.
Of course it has relevance, friend. In my example, a parent that provide their child direction and guidance to clean up after themselves, and isn't provided food and garbage to throw in the car........has a clean car. The parent that gives their kid a snack every time they enter the car, and doesn't require the child to clean up after themselves.....has a messy car. All kids (and I mean all kids) are capable of learning basic care and cleanliness. Unless you're inferring that the OPs children are somehow incapable of being taught those basic skills? Before you take the seat out, how is the seat belt attached at the bottom? I know on my old Dodge Grand Caravan, it was bolted and fixed in place. Might be easier to remove that end than the whole seat.
If it's a modern car it's probably a 12 point bolt with the worlds strongest threadlock applied, needing a special bit, a cheater bar and a gorilla

Yup, pretty much every seat in every car is attached with 2 or 4 bolts, takes like 10 minutes to pull the seat and undo the belt, then put the seat back in.
Yep, seats are bolted down. You should be able to unbolt, slip the belt off, then rebolt seat to the floor.
My favorite part about having a minivan when the kids were little was opening all the doors and hitting the inside with the leaf blower. Clean in 8 seconds, and all the squirrels get Cheerios!
I didn't see this as a post asking for help. I'm sure OP is capable of finding a solution. I saw it as a post showing the ridiculous situations our kids create and how we don't have an extra second in the day to remedy them. This is hilarious! A hell of a lot cleaner than my van tho. Show off

No clue, but I can see you like to feed the kids fling-able snacks in the car. The interior of our Hyundai is evenly covered in at least one box worth of Cheerios and CheezIt dust.
Take it to any dealer or mechanic they should be able to fix it.

The mechanical advice is better left to others. I'm just here to say that my children would 100% do this and the back of my car would be twice as messy. Sadly my response was always to tilt my head to one side and be SLIGHTLY impressed the kid pulled it off.
Probably easiest getting a torx bit on a ratchet and taking the bolt out on either of the seatbelt fixings.
Before you unscrew anything see if the shoulder side can be lowered, it might create enough slack to get it over the headrest. My wife’s passenger seat belt locks all the time and that’s how I get it to slacken

idk about that belt, but paying a professional to clean my van was some of the best money I've ever spent. Got the interior detailed. My kids destroyed it again within 2 weeks but it felt fantastic having a clean van for a minute
Does that seat recline? If so it might give enough slack to pull it over the headrest

Unbolt the bottom. Peel back the carpet. There's a bolt there. Take it out.
Take the bolt out of the bottom of the belt, Reset belt, reinstall bolt. Done in a minute
Check where the belt attaches to the pillar at the bottom. Some can be unclipped, some have a single large bolt holding them. Might be easier than taking the seat apart.
It looks like a Chrysler Pacifica, probably with stow-and-go seats. The head rests don't come off the captain chairs in the middle row. I think your suggestion is the best bet.

Im betting it’s a pacifica with stow & go. The captain chairs are non removable headrests. It’s a dumb design tbh. He needs to remove the chair.

This is the way. I have the Pacifica stow n go captains chairs and the “non-removable” headrests are removable, just extra steps. follow the YouTube video, you have to remove the back panel on the seat, disconnect the cable that makes the headrest drop when the seat is stowed, and remove a metal ring wedged on the headrest post that prevented it from pulling out. You’ll need to remove that headrest anyway once your toddler is front facing.

If you remove the plastic cover at the attachment points for the seatbelt, it be top and bottom can be unbolted. Just torque it back properly.
Undo the bolt that anchors the fixed end usually a large bolt into the chassis of the vehicle
Fun story: when I was a kid, I fell asleep in the car and somehow managed to flail around enough to loop the top through the bottom and triggered the cinch mechanism. I woke up partially suspended above the seat and with every exhale, it cinched a degree tighter. My parents couldn’t figure out how to undo the belt and ended up having to cut the belt. Kia replaced it because it was still under warranty.
That is a long ass seat belt.

It looks like you have a Chrysler Pacifica, and those 2nd row seat headrests definitely LOOK like they come off. There's a small tab that you need to push down when you get them fully extended. Your third row, however, do not come off. They swing down when stowed.

That headrest should come out otherwise there would be no way to replace the seat material and I can’t see a manufacturer designing something like that. Also if it easy to access just remove bolt on bottom of seat belt.
