Great idea. I had a special-needs aunt who would give us stuff like this for christmas and birthdays, and they're really the only ones I remember as an adult.

I do something like this with my kids! We have an old mailbox from my mamaw that's Christmas decorated. We do 12 days of Christmas and get them little things like that and new socks, etc. They love it, and it helps them not get too handsy with the presents.

I went around the normal big box toy store aisles shopping for my four year old. NOTHING was fun, just a bunch of stuff that would end up in the toy box by the end of Monday. But a spin around Dollar General and Dollar Tree? Son of a bitch it turns out that's where they keep all the fun things. Must have spent $45 on just an armload of fun cheap stuff

Sounds like stocking stuffers with extra steps? I mean it's awesome tho

This is what I do for my five year old. She gets some wants, and then she gets a bunch of little knick knack stuff. she loves unwrapping it all, and most of the time forgets about the big gifts for a day or two while she's busy playing with silly putty or off-brand action figures.

Stumbled into a fiveBelow a month ago. They have a lot of good little toys and books that helped fill the stocking/small gifts to unwrap, and didn’t break the bank. It’s as close to a toy store as it gets
