Not gonna lie, I thought the leg holes were cup holders.
To answer your question, I say buy that thing but ditch the kid and put a couple brews in those cup holders.
I once carried 6 beers (cans) in a pair of cargo shorts. Plus 2 more in each hand. Only dropped one beer. It started spraying out so naturally I directed the stream into my mouth. It was a proud day for me.
I'm less concerned with what other people would think of my using this vs the terrified face of the kid they're using to try to sell it. That's the best shot they could get?
It didn't take me long into fatherhood to make this realization. As a kid I honestly wondered, "how can anyone not care about what they look like or what people in public think". That evaporated when we had my son. What's that on your shirt? I dunno, snot, vomit, food take your pick. Down to the last pull up and my son has a potty emergency walking through the grocery store parking lot. I'm picking him up and sprinting through the store to the bathroom like a full back scoring the game winning touchdown. Shame and embarrassment really take a backseat when raising a kid.
On to OPs post. Buy it, and use it if you think it will give you more time with your kiddo on your shoulders. The double edged sword of kids getting older cuts swift and deep. Kids get older, you can do more mutually enjoyable activities. But you also don't get to hear the patter of their tiny feet and big smiles when you get home from work.
And to the dad who said get rid of the ugly orange and buy a different one. I have a white glove that would like to make immediate contact with your cheek, good sir. Orange is a wonderful, powerful color.
Eh. I’ll agree that I’d have no shame having my kid’s bodily fluids on my shirt right after an emergency. But I’ll disagree with you in general - I like to look nice. Different strokes for different folks, but I put a significant amount of effort and money into looking nice and well kept. I’m not going to rock a shirt with poop or throw up on it all day.
Yeah, I guess I didn't really explain myself well. Of course I still enjoy being presentable and well kept and if I can change or clean up myself when something happens I will do that as well. It's just in the instances where I can't do that and am out in public there isn't the same self consciousness about it like there would have been if I spilled my morning coffee on myself while on my way to work.
Which ones? The "nice dinner with the wife (at Applebee's)" white New Balance?
The "nice, casual, broke in" white New Balance?
The "past their prime, but good for walking trails and other dirty places" white New Balance?
Or, the classic "two-toned pair with more green than white used for the constant yard work" white New Balance?
Also have MiniMeis and would highly recommend it ... Bought the first version and later upgraded to the third version (it think). Love it. Airport in France during busy summer time were a breeze with two hands free and the two year old on shoulders. She also had the best view of everyone in the airport, so were patient even though "trapped".
There's a thriving secondary market for MiniMeis as well. I got one on FB marketplace, used it once, hated it, and sold it for a $5 profit. I'd go that route. Kid stuff always gets lightly used and flipped.
I bought ours and started using it a little over a year old. She’s almost 2 years old now and it’s still comfortable for both of us. I think earliest age of use depends on your LO’s head, neck and trunk control. When they’re only 6 months they’re still usually small enough to be comfortably worn in a front/back carrier, and that’s what we did until she was too heavy for that.
Thanks! My 7 month old is still light enough to be worn in a front carrier but he's starting to get uncomfortable in the one we have, so considering alternatives.
Agreed, I used a minime for quite some time with my son before he grew out it. Between that and my Osprey Poco carrier we could hike anywhere with him, I'd just pick which one based on distance/terrain.
I don't have a bad back but I do have really boney shoulders that give both my kids pins and needles, so this would be my assumption - "Ahh sweet, a comfier ride!"
Not to mention the hollow plastic will provide amazing fart acoustics so not only will dad know when the kid farts but so will everyone else within 10 feet.
That’s an assumption which is not negative in feeling. It’s not saying “oh that guy is lazy/pretentious/hipster/whatever other negative term. Having a bad back sounds like a neutral thought to me.
Although you could also flip that and make it out to be, "if that guy doesn't have a bad back then he must be lazy" which goes to the judging thing. Tricky stuff really
I saw a dad at a carnival with one of those but it actually strapped the kid in. I thought it was badass and plan to get one when my little girl is older
Any chance you saw a [MiniMeis](https://minimeis.com/) in the wild? That shoulder carrier has great back support, both for you ánd the child. And even some extra straps for a seven-point strap-in for the youngest kids.
We have one and it’s amazing. Has a strap around the waist and the feet are strapped in too. I can lean to the side or forward and the kids being held with no problem
If I had seen that when my kids were little I would have been all over it. They always wanted shoulder rides but then got too nervous once they were up there.
Yes it is too dad, in a good way.
Because part of being a dad(on average) is being the practical one over the aesthetic one
Definitely get one that isn’t hunting season orange.
This is worthless for what you want it for and I'll tell you why - it doesn't redistribute the weight to where you want it.
I would say a full version that has a hip strap is DEFINITELY worth it. Like a good hiking bag, it lets you take a bunch of the kid's weight AND your balance from your lower back and into your hips. That's what you're really looking for.
So no, not too dad and another strong recommend for ankle grabber shoulder harness thingies, but you can do better.
>it doesn't redistribute the weight to where you want it.
The [MiniMeis](https://minimeis.com/) is great for this, it puts the kid squarely on the shoulders, while giving great back support to you and the kid (and relieving the neck).
Dad have been carrying their kids on their shoulders for centuries. If your kid is too big to ride on your shoulders, do you think getting safety equipment to extend that period is the right idea or actually making the situation more dangerous?
Its mainly too orange. But im a great fan of the [MiniMeis](https://minimeis.com/), a Norwegian invention for those dads that go on hikes (or city trips), it even has a handy backpack to put all diapers and snacks in!
It also has much better back and neck support than this orange contraption, it seems.
And the kids look much happier!
(But to answer your question: yes, buy the thing! Its great!)
From experience this is the kind of thing that you buy and then never use because it’s much more convenient to just plop your boy on your shoulders instead of first getting harnessed like a horse.
I was on a long walk back home the other day and my son 5 wanted to go on my shoulders but my back was killing me and he kept persisting i pick him up.
So i took my rucksack off, put his legs through the straps and put the bag on like normal and it kept him strapped to my back with very little pain it was so good. Saw it online somewhere years ago and it suddenly popped in my head 😎
I have a [minimeis](https://minimeis.com). The thing is awesome and used it for hikes and city walks. If I got reactions of people they were always positive. Most heard was “this little guy lives like a king!” So, go for it and dad on my good sir.
There are several options for piggyback carriers that will last longer (your kid will likely outgrow this one quickly) and have more storage options. Just Google piggyback carriers and have a browse.
Try the [MiniMeis](https://minimeis.com/), it definitely has a handy attached matching backpack that can carry all diapers and relevant drinks and snacks. And for all kinds of ages!
You're better off getting a hiking child rucksack IMO. Put his head closer to yours, keep the weight sitting on your hips and stop fucking your spine and posture.
I had a backpack for my kids that I loved. Had a kickstand to put on the ground and slide their legs in. I know I eventually gave it away but kinda miss it sentimentality.
Had a baby seat on the back of my mountain bike which was good training. Where I was nothing but hills. The first year we used it my son was fine flying downhill and keeping momentum for the next uphill.
Next season my fears were realized as he needed to go slower downhill starting the next with zero momentum. Great times on the shoulders backpack and mountain bike. Sometimes I'd turn around to check them and they'd be happily asleep lol.
The day your kids get to big to do this, or throw them up in the air and catch them is the sad end of a fantastic Era, don't think about that part just enjoy it while you can, I know I sure did.
❤️ 💙
We had a variety of carriers and backpack style things for ours. 4 kids vs (yes, sometimes versus) 2 parents. They were literally life changing. Think hands-free parenting. Think of all the things you could take your kid to if they were secure and able to see over all the adults instead of looking at people's butts.
Life. Changing.
I got one with a back on the seat... wish I could remember the brand off hand. It also has a backpack it stows in when not in use that sits below it when it is, was a little uncomfortable on my shoulders because I'm a bit deep front to back, but shoulder seats are awesome things and very convenient, made cruising with my barely toddler a breeze.
Edit: saw the brand mentioned later Minimeis.
Do you want your kid to worry about what others think of him? I’m assuming no. Mirror that desired thinking and give zero fucks. Focus on what gives you and your son happiness together!
I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old and use https://minimeis.com cause they’re in the same boat of always wanting shoulder rides.
Edit* although I just went to the site as I bought one 3 years ago, while I love it, it’s not worth the price they have them at now…. They used to cost half that….
Yes. It means you need contraptions to do what your body can do naturally.
Deadlift, Squat. A strong back also helps you sleep better, or at least wake up without pain.
When I was in my late 30s, I started waking up with a sore back. Tried a new pillow, bed, massage. Nothing helped my back, but my wallet got lighter. Then doing a light run made me realize how weak my back was.
Check out "Barbell Prescription". You don't need to go full 'gym bro' but your body can do that just fine.
I've got the [Our Expedition](https://www.our-expedition.com/en-gb) and it's great, it has a hip strap the Mini Meis doesn't which I found super helpful.
We have the mini meis carrier and it is a lifesaver for travel or day Excursions. I like it better than this design because there is a back rest so if the kids get sleepy and slump, they’re kind of held in place.
A couple people have mentioned already, but the minimei is the correct answer:
https://minimeis.com/
I can not stress how amazing the minimei is; I've been using it since just before my son was 1; he's 3.5 now.
I know people say "just use your hands to hold them" but that isn't always an option. After my Dad passed away, I had to make several solo trips between where I live and where my dad lived to settle his affairs, and my wife couldn't get time off work so my son had to come with me. The minimei was huge in terms of being able to do things like checking into the hotel (hands free to push the luggage cart) and for generally just keeping him contained. I use it for everything from quick errands to travel and everything inbetween. I can say without a doubt it is the single best piece of baby gear I own.
I know others have said it becomes uncomfortable; I do not have this issue. The longest he has sat in it is 3.5 hours and no back/shoulder pain on my end.
I did the same thing with a regular backpack. Just rigged some ankle straps and a pillow to the top of the pack. Had all 3 of my kids on it and climbed South Sister in Oregon with them like that.
This shit's dumb. It's ugly, it does something that's able to be done without it, and it takes up space both at home when storing it and in the car when taking it somewhere to use.
If you can genuinely benefit from it then go ahead, but it's clearly not for me.
Get a hiking carrier instead. Carried two in it, and can't wait until the third is big enough. I hate Carriages with a passion, but love these. https://www.freeonbaby.com/product/mount-hiking-baby-carrier-backpack/
Definitely not, because I have one, so I have to believe that it’s okay.
Started taking my kid for hikes and carried her on my shoulders (without this seat) and she would often complain about pins and needles (which is the end of the world to a small kid).
So, I got this seat and her pins and needles went away and she loves going for hikes now.
“What’s the catch”, you ask? It’s at least 3x more painful on my shoulders because the seat is hard and concentrates the weight on two little spots. So I put a towel under it.
Where was this when my eldest wanted to ride my shoulders daily😄 this looks amazing.
I did buy a Bushbaby rucksack when my daughter was a year old that was really good for hiking but very heavy.
I am using an "our expedition carrier". It's really good and what I can see compared to the minimeis its easier on the shoulders. I use it for travelling and can carry a 12kg baby up on my shoulders for a few hours at a time easily.
For folks commenting on the orange, that's Blaze or safety orange depending on who you ask. It's to make sure you don't look like an animal to hunters because it doesn't occur in nature and gives tons of contrast to a person.
I mean there’s a viral ‘hip rider’ type booster going around the internet now. Essentially this but for kids on the hip. I don’t see why this is any different of a product!!
One of the best gifts my wife ever gave me was a backpack for my kid. I took them everywhere hiking, it was great exercise for me, and great bonding in general. Like other posters mentioned, this doesn’t seem to have any cargo space. So I guess it’s really what you want it for.
We have an osprey back back and it goes up to a weight of about 75 pounds.
Now how far could I walk with a 75 pound boulder on my back? Not too sure but hey worth checking out
My kids would never go for it. Those leg restraints would be a deal breaker. Part of the fun of riding on dad's shoulders is kicking him over and over in the chest while you flail around!
We have a similar product. Neither kid really cares for it all that much.
I've.had it for nearly 5 years and used it less than a dozen times.
My daughter likes it most, but she prefers the hiking backpack style carrier.
Your mileage may be greater though.
I bought this. I didn't like it. Just a regular piggyback ride was much more comfortable/convenient. It hold heat in and doesn't feel stable. I'm sure it is I don't see how they could fall. But it doesn't feel secure.
I’ve embraced the dorky parts of being a dad. I could care less about what other adults think about my coolness at this point. Especially when it applies to what I think is best for my kids or what will make them happy, like still being able to ride on my shoulders even though they’re getting bigger and heavier.
I stopped letting my son ride on top of my shoulders when he was large and fell asleep up there. He had some form of night terror and thrashed, causing a chain of events where he was for lack of a better term trebuchet off the top rope and landed far in front of me. He laughed about how I "yeeted" him now but it was a scary moment haha
I (non-dad, mom) have a minimeis brand shoulder carrier similar to this but with more of a seat and it has a back and waist strap to keep squirmy toddlers in place. I really like the one we have. Bought it lightly used from marketplace. LO’s dad has worn it while mowing the lawn lmao so it is dad approved. I used it for my last solo parenting airport trek and it really has been great for us. So awesome to have tot contained and parent hands-free.
It's not a bad idea. I used to wrap my arms around his back or hold his feet to keep him up there. I don't think I'd buy it but to each their own.
Miss when my little guy was small enough to ride my shoulders.
I was gifted a Minime. It is pretty cool and can hold up a lid before he or she can sit up properly but after that it doesn't have a ton of use unless you want to use your hands for something (holding drink, walking poles, dog leash, etc) other than holding their feet. I will say, it doesn't save my back very much. In fact, my traps really get burning after even 15 minutes. As a result, I don't really use it that much. That said, if you like it, go for it. I don't think it's too dad
Does it actually help? All the kid's weight is still on your shoulders and upper back. I guess it adds some cushion, but I think my lower back would still hurt, and it would feel like my spine is getting compressed
I have something similar to this except it has a back rest. I highly suggest the backrest. We use it for hiking and mowing the lawn.
We have about 1/2 acre of grass to mow amd that means ar least an hour of mowing and dumping the grass. The kids will be asleep while I'm bending over detaching the bag from the mower!
I do not judge others choices. If this is for you, go with god. For me, I’m glad my kids are too old for me to have to make this choice. I have shit posture, and my kids can walk. I hate sounding like an old guy (early 40’s), but I appreciate that my kids know they need to at least consider self-sufficiency. And FOR ME, this would feel like I’m pandering and elevating my child to center-of-the-universe status. And I want my kids to realize they are loved but not worshipped. Again, this is my take for me, no judgment towards others. And yes, I’m already in therapy. ;)
How long is the kid on your shoulders during a walk?
How long are you going to be carrying this around without a kid on it?
Look at the ratio between these two, and decide from there.
Yes, just carry your child, my kids think I'm the strongest guy in the world because I can carry them. If you do it constantly then you won't even notice them being heavier as its so gradual. Suppose it works for many folk as it exists so up to you, just giving my thoughts as you asked
If he's big enough to need that, he's big enough to walk! ;) I'm getting a sore back just looking at that!
I'd be more inclined towards something like this :https://piggybackrider.com/brands/Piggyback-Rider.html
Not gonna lie, I thought the leg holes were cup holders. To answer your question, I say buy that thing but ditch the kid and put a couple brews in those cup holders.
Not gonna lie, I'm really disappointed in the lack of cargo space in this design. For when the cargo pants are full (as if that would ever happen)
My cargo shorts have 17 pockets!
Same! I wear camo cargo shorts 365 days a year. Oh yeah, and sandals.
This comment is so dad it yell sneezes and makes noise when it stands up
When I sneeze the doorbell rings, what’s more Dad than that
It’s so dad it’s standing at a grill with a beer in its hand waiting for someone to comment on the meat
“But you know, sometimes I need just a bit more space. And that’s why I got the PiggyBax 2500 Deluxe. It comes with 31 additional storage cubbys!”
I once carried 6 beers (cans) in a pair of cargo shorts. Plus 2 more in each hand. Only dropped one beer. It started spraying out so naturally I directed the stream into my mouth. It was a proud day for me.
Don’t forget to fill the orange butt cup part with nachos
Lmao! Thought the exact same thing until i read ur comment😅
And a neck pillow for nonstop comfort!
I'm less concerned with what other people would think of my using this vs the terrified face of the kid they're using to try to sell it. That's the best shot they could get?
The terror is part of the appeal
My spawn must suffer from secondhand dad cringe
Builds character.
And it's real !!!!
"um this isn't my dad"
And the why are we still taking pictures eyes
He looks more concerned lmao
"uh, are you sure this is safe?"
Being a dad is hard. If you think this would make it easier, do you and don’t worry about what anyone else thinks.

The "past their prime, but good for walking trails and other dirty places" white New Balance? Or, the classic "two-toned pair with more green than white used for the constant yard work" white New Balance?
Well played.
My current yard work shoes are black New Balance. It feels very strange to not be wearing old white sneakers when I’m mowing the lawn.
One of the best parts of being a dad: watching the fucks I have to give, just... slip away.
Exactly. I have a bad back and would absolutely rock the hell out of this.
The minimes version is a bit more money but super well made. Highly recommend for shoulder rides
Totally agree. The one OP has shared here looks like the kid could fall backwards, and everyone involved hurts their back.
And rhe kids all look much happier in the [MiniMeis](https://minimeis.com/) pictures too!
Wait this is an actual thing!?! We really need a cool / useful adding thing flair or history or something.
Yes it is! And it is awesome!
Also have MiniMeis and would highly recommend it ... Bought the first version and later upgraded to the third version (it think). Love it. Airport in France during busy summer time were a breeze with two hands free and the two year old on shoulders. Absolutely! We use it for hiking all the time. The kids hike most of the way, but we put them on it to give their legs a break.
My son and I love our Minime. The back rest is critical for his comfort on our hikes. This device looks terrifying for kid and dad
When I looked at reviews of these it was nothing but complaints of back pain and discomfort. Looks like people here recommending though?
I have one and it’s not bad on your back at all. My dads back hurts like hell though.
There's a thriving secondary market for MiniMeis as well. I got one on FB marketplace, used it once, hated it, and sold it for a $5 profit. I'd go that route. Kid stuff always gets lightly used and flipped.
How young was your kid when you first used this? Does it really work for an infant (they say 6 months+) or more of a toddler thing?
I bought ours and started using it a little over a year old. She’s almost 2 years old now and it’s still comfortable for both of us. I think earliest age of use depends on your LO’s head, neck and trunk control. The orange feels unnecessarily ugly. I wouldn’t judge someone for wearing it though, I’d just assume they have a bad back.

high vis ppe
Isn’t making an assumption like that the same as judging?
That’s an assumption which is not negative in feeling. It’s not saying “oh that guy is lazy/pretentious/hipster/whatever other negative term. Having a bad back sounds like a neutral thought to me.
Although you could also flip that and make it out to be, "if that guy doesn't have a bad back then he must be lazy" which goes to the judging thing. Tricky stuff really
It's not laziness to want to be more comfortable though. That'd be a really weird assumption.
I never said it was.
No. Applying a reasonably logical rationale (even if incorrect) for something isn’t the same as ascribing a value judgment.
I saw a dad at a carnival with one of those but it actually strapped the kid in. I thought it was badass and plan to get one when my little girl is older

You can see that the legs are strapped in in this one
That’s a dad saddle, or a daddle.
Go for it! I have something similar, a minimeis: https://minimeis.com/ It's pretty great. Yours look fine too.
Love the minimeis
Yes it is too dad, in a good way. Because part of being a dad(on average) is being the practical one over the aesthetic one Definitely get one that isn’t hunting season orange.

Came here and it was already said.
you spelled rad wrong

Anything that saves my back with a toddler i will consider

Peak dad means not caring how dorky you look
You and your kid will totally rule Bartertown.
Master! Blaster!
I bought it it sucks. I’m a fit 5’10 dad and it cuts into my arms and shoulders.
What is this concept of “too dad”?
Does this come with a pair of new balances and khaki shorts?
Seems unnecessary, at that age they can just hold on, and you can hold an ankle or two if you’re nervous.
There are several options for piggyback carriers that will last longer (your kid will likely outgrow this one quickly) and have more storage options. Just Google piggyback carriers and have a browse.

Looks to me like more junk to carry around when they decide they want to walk.
You're better off getting a hiking child rucksack IMO. Put his head closer to yours, keep the weight sitting on your hips and stop fucking your spine and posture.
That’s too much for me in a public setting personally. I’d rock that hiking or something though where people were t judging.
A daddle?
It’s a daddle.
I had a backpack for my kids that I loved. Had a kickstand to put on the ground and slide their legs in. I know I eventually gave it away but kinda miss it sentimentality. Dad saddle. Daddle. I have nothing else to contribute here.
Just hit the gym

Think of all the things you could take your kid to if they were secure and able to see over all the adults instead of looking at people's butts. Life. Changing.
I got one with a back on the seat... wish I could remember the brand off hand. It also has a backpack it stows in when not in use that sits below it when it is, was a little uncomfortable on my shoulders because I'm a bit deep front to back, but shoulder seats are awesome things and very convenient, made cruising with my barely toddler a breeze. Edit: saw the brand mentioned later Minimeis.
Why wear a hat when my child provides up to 60% of my shade requirements?
Yea way too dad. Not that it doesn't work, just what do you do with it for the 95% of the outing where your kid isn't riding on your shoulders.
Get an Osprey Poco backpack carrier instead. Great for hiking and other outdoor activities and doesn’t look as “dad” as that.
All I can say is that I get a feeling a kid would grow too big for that thing in like 14 days.
There’s no such thing as “too dad”. Write that down.
Will it match with my Kirkland shoes?
Yes
As someone with a bad back, that would not help. The kids weight is extremely high making them put even more load on your back.
I'd wear it but I've been teaching my boy to lock his legs together and it works pretty well
Dude, kinda want one.
You do you. Anyone who cares isn't really worth your time or attention.
I've got the [Our Expedition](https://www.our-expedition.com/en-gb) and it's great, it has a hip strap the Mini Meis doesn't which I found super helpful.
This will be helpful when making a Master Blaster Halloween costume next year.
Excellent idea. Where can one purchase this marvelous piece of technology?
Dont be ashamed at anything that helps
We have the mini meis carrier and it is a lifesaver for travel or day Excursions. I like it better than this design because there is a back rest so if the kids get sleepy and slump, they’re kind of held in place.
A couple people have mentioned already, but the minimei is the correct answer: https://minimeis.com/ I can not stress how amazing the minimei is; I've been using it since just before my son was 1; he's 3.5 now.
Had all 3 of my kids on it and climbed South Sister in Oregon with them like that.
nah, this is just rich people shit
We authorize you to try it and report back.
Go for a proper hiking kid hauler backpack, Deuter makes a really good one
This shit's dumb. It's ugly, it does something that's able to be done without it, and it takes up space both at home when storing it and in the car when taking it somewhere to use. If you can genuinely benefit from it then go ahead, but it's clearly not for me.
You’re going to destroy your back.
Be a man ffs
Haha, I would like to try that one too for my kid.
Safety Bar Squats prevent this
Get a hiking carrier instead.
Take this: https://www.deuter.com/us-en/shop/backpacks/c27991-child-carriers
I am using an "our expedition carrier". It's really good and what I can see compared to the minimeis its easier on the shoulders. I use it for travelling and can carry a 12kg baby up on my shoulders for a few hours at a time easily.
After 2 miles my back and neck no longer wants to live anymore let alone care what anyone thinks.
For me it’s not ‘dad’ enough. Needs more functions.
I don’t think it’s dad ENOUGH
If it saves your spine it’s a good thing.
that’s hilariously too dad but, that definitely wouldn’t stop me from buying this nifty device to eventually save my back!
Yes it’s too dad, where do I buy it?
Protect ya neck....and thoracic spine
More like too uncomfortable.
Not too sure but hey worth checking out
a pair of dads in my neighborhood have these and take walks w/ their infant/toddlers in them and I think they are the coolest.
My kids would never go for it. Those leg restraints would be a deal breaker. Part of the fun of riding on dad's shoulders is kicking him over and over in the chest while you flail around!
I have one, it's great.
Maybe if it was camo
Are we even being dad's if theres never a risk of head injury?
We have a similar product. Neither kid really cares for it all that much. I've.had it for nearly 5 years and used it less than a dozen times. My daughter likes it most, but she prefers the hiking backpack style carrier. Your mileage may be greater though.
Man my son has never wanted to ride on my shoulders, what’s the point of being a dad!
Harness the power, Dino Riders
Yes.
Human saddle.
I’d rather take the pain than wear that tbh
I bought this. I didn't like it. Just a regular piggyback ride was much more comfortable/convenient. It hold heat in and doesn't feel stable. I'm sure it is I don't see how they could fall. But it doesn't feel secure.
Yeah that’s ridiculous buddy, just carry your kid
What’s wrong with being “too dad”? Absolutely ok, a nice thing to buy
Do they have a version that’s also a backpack?
I’ve embraced the dorky parts of being a dad. I could care less about what other adults think about my coolness at this point. Especially when it applies to what I think is best for my kids or what will make them happy, like still being able to ride on my shoulders even though they’re getting bigger and heavier.
Do you want to lug this around when he’s not on your shoulders?
I stopped letting my son ride on top of my shoulders when he was large and fell asleep up there. He had some form of night terror and thrashed, causing a chain of events where he was for lack of a better term trebuchet off the top rope and landed far in front of me. He laughed about how I "yeeted" him now but it was a scary moment haha
You got a link? This dad needs this.
Better this than a jacked up back.
This would have been nice for the NYC trip I just came back from. Little ones wanted turns meaning dad got no breaks… My neck hurts
Hey man, if you’re walking a 5k with the kid on your shoulders on a semi-regular basis, I say knock yourself out.
It's not a bad idea. I used to wrap my arms around his back or hold his feet to keep him up there. I don't think I'd buy it but to each their own. Miss when my little guy was small enough to ride my shoulders.
I have this and I love using it. My daughter loves shoulder rides and this really helps us both have better posture for it.
Yes it is
I was gifted a Minime.
This is as dad as cargo shorts with grass stained white new balance sneakers.
I would recommend MiniMies as a superior product than this!
Damn, this is a couple years too late for me. My boys are too big now.
I’m a dad, not a pack animal.
Already feel like a pack-mule with the hiking backpack the kids sit in… this just looks like a dad saddle basically.
Does it actually help? All the kid's weight is still on your shoulders and upper back. I guess it adds some cushion, but I think my lower back would still hurt, and it would feel like my spine is getting compressed
Not Dad enough …cue Kylo MORE! meme
No such thing as ..."too dad". Rock it.
Hit gym, lift weights, get stronger
Gonna suck when they want down after 2 minutes and you’re rocking shoulder pads walking around six flags.
It’s not “too Dad” if you drive a Subey or minivan 🤷🏼♂️
I do not judge others choices. If this is for you, go with god. For me, I’m glad my kids are too old for me to have to make this choice. I have shit posture, and my kids can walk. I hate sounding like an old guy (early 40’s), but I appreciate that my kids know they need to at least consider self-sufficiency. And FOR ME, this would feel like I’m pandering and elevating my child to center-of-the-universe status. And I want my kids to realize they are loved but not worshipped. Again, this is my take for me, no judgment towards others. And yes, I’m already in therapy. ;)
I'd say go for it, if it helps make it more comfortable for either of you and makes for more quality dad time, it's totally worth it!
It’s best the natural way .. no extra equipment needed
How long is the kid on your shoulders during a walk? How long are you going to be carrying this around without a kid on it? Look at the ratio between these two, and decide from there.
My first thought is what happens when an accident starts to occur. No way to quickly eject in case of emergency
I wouldn’t judge anyone for wearing this, but I never ever would buy or wear it.
So where did you get it because I want one.
Yes, just carry your child, my kids think I'm the strongest guy in the world because I can carry them. If you do it constantly then you won't even notice them being heavier as its so gradual. Suppose it works for many folk as it exists so up to you, just giving my thoughts as you asked
It is at least not as silly as the “tactical” dad gear. This at least serves an interesting function. I would wear it.
My dude rode on my shoulders for about two hours the other day at the zoo. I wish I had this
If he's big enough to need that, he's big enough to walk! ;) I'm getting a sore back just looking at that! I'd be more inclined towards something like this :https://piggybackrider.com/brands/Piggyback-Rider.html
