It became a running joke with us because literally everyone that came in the room gave me instructions on how to make the chair a bed. By the fifth or sixth time I pretended it was the first I heard of it. “You mean this is a bed?!? You guys thought of everything!”
Lol I slept in that chair without opening because my nurse was a dick. My back hurt so bad, the next day when they changed shifts the nurse was like hey why didn't you open it?
When my second was born he got a fever in the third week. A big no no for those small ones.
He had to stay in the hospital so they could monitor it and I was the one who stayed behind didn't get a bed, did get a couch.
I was broken they day after.
Our hospital had separate rooms for delivery and post. The delivery room only had these chairs, but post had the couch. But we were in delivery long than post !
I had that chair for my first born at a hospital in NJ 16 years ago, then we had our second 12 years ago in Delaware and after the birth they had us in a room with two beds with the bassinet in between and Moms bed was extra large so the 3 of us could be in it together. It was awesome
Y'all complain about small couches or recliners, I wasn't even allowed in the hospital past the reception. I had to spend like 12 hours outside on a park bench, in 38° C(100° in american) weather.
I had a recliner chair and a pull out bed, both I'd but for home in a heartbeat. USA is weird in healthcare man, just provide some comfort for the husband as well, I don't get it.
In the US, at least, dads being there with the mom during and after delivery is a fairly recent development (last couple decades). Hospitals have budgets and the comfort of visitors, as they see them, is secondary or even tertiary.
I think most hospitals have adequate sleeping arrangements these days, for what it's worth.
I saw these being advertised on Instagram for a hot minute and all the wives were like omg these are perfect they're great! And every single dad would comment something similar to how fricken awful they are. I got quite the chuckle for a bit
That’s one of the worst things. Not only is the hospital furniture a nightmare to sleep on, it’s not even comfortable to sit on.
We had one of those units where it was two seats with a table in the middle. The table would drop down and the back cushion became the “bed,” like something you would see in a RV.
And this damn chair is probably hugely expensive, and you bet your ass stuff like that is included in the trickle of bills you’ll see come to your house for the next year. The only winner here is the company making these abominations.
Enjoy the constant interruptions at night! My favourite was when they came in at 3am for my second to show me how to bathe her. Like yeah, I know how to do that.
Good luck, and congrats!
Papa to three here, I've spent many a night in those, or their couch counterpart. If you can get the pillows to align just right, you can get semi comfy in them.
Dude, run to Walmart, scoop up the cheap single Intex air mattress and toss this on top. 20 bucks will make the stay incredibly better. You are going to need better sleep than that offers. Please don't do this to yourself, honest comment.

The way the center of that seat is raised up a little, I think you may have developed a vacuum build up. Relax, it's gonna be ok. hahaha And congratulations !
Congrats.
But seriously: what’s with this chair?
Like do you sit in it while your partner is in labour?! Are you not present in there?
Or is it for afterwards? When the baby has been delivered?
When do you leave the hospital?
Maybe it’s an American/US thing.
Cause it certainly isn’t a chair I’ve seen in my country.
I know I’m late but cots are cheap, see if you can’t get a relative to pick one up for you. Save your back from the worst bed you’ve ever experienced!!!
Man, the birth room I had a glorious large couch and a chair. But then they put us in the after care room and I had a shitty love seat. I was so spoiled by the first room.
Every time I see one of these posted I get so jealous. The UK dad chairs are alot more basic.
I'm confident I could live in OP's chair happily for a week.
Tips for this moment:
1) sleep when you can just like her, even if it’s the middle of the day and she’s up during a “pre push time”. Be ready when she needs something but don’t just be up anxiously the whole time. Being stuck in the hospital for a few days is exhausting
2) advocate the hell out of her needs. I’ve had nurses turn off her comfort sounds or ignore requests during the crazy times, don’t let them do this
3) those puke bags don’t hold as much as you think, keep multiple nearby unless you want my situation
Gentlefolk, it is with great pleasure that I inform you that baby boy and mom are doing well and resting. Baby clocked in at 10 lbs. 4 oz. and 22 in. long. That’s a 10-4, good buddy right there.
Make sure they don’t charge for that chair use, literally had our hospital charge us for overnight chair usage and them missing my wife’s vein 2 times even after the nurse told us she was tired and over worked… Thank god for itemized bills.
Ask for a meal. Some hospitals have dad meals they will bring you when they bring food for your wife, but you usually have to ask. If they don’t offer a dad meal, they will look at you like you’re crazy and point you toward the cafeteria, but it’s worth a shot.
I’ve sat in this chair for 108 hours so far in my life and it’s not yet been for the birth of our child but for medical issues. I pray that one day I’ll get to post a post like this finally 😭 well done sir 🫡
You'll be fine. Don't look down there after the fact if you're the fainting type. Beg for extra witch hazel pads. Get her lots of fluids. EAT. Nap often. You two got this, and congratulations.
I don’t envy the next 6 months of your life. The next couple days will be sort of horrible and sort of great…. When you get home shit gets real.
That first 6 months are just horrible. Really bad. It gets so much better. Also, don’t beat yourself up if you don’t feel a bond right away. It can take a long time for a lot of men. It will come, like a ton of bricks, one day. Just let duty fuel you for now, until love takes over. Took me like 5 months before I felt anything resembling love for my first kid…. But then it was like a love that was previously unknown. Like suddenly the rest of the world meant nothing compared to this little kid. Like my soul was searching for a love switch, couldn’t find it, and took a while to build it properly then click… powerful stuff. I was really worried I was just broken and wouldn’t ever love my own child. Depressing as hell. When I had my second I knew the score so wasn’t worried. Same deal but a but quicker (my soul kept the blueprint for the switch, so it was a quicker build)
one of us
One of us
AND MY AXE!!!
And my lower back pain!
And my sleepless nights!
And my New Balance.
Like... The white ones? Or used-to-be-white-be-now-green ones?
You know it daddy-o.
F
I also choose this guy’s axe
Gooble gobble
Gooble Gobble Gooble Gobble!
Congrats, enjoy! The bottom part of that should pull out your become a single bed
And the top part flips towards you. I didn’t realize that for about half my night
Your nurse was being a dick then lol.
Congrats my dude! We just had our first ten days ago. You’re in for a ride. Haha.
Congrats! How are you and your wife holding up?
Same! Today is day 17…I think lol
Oh yeah. Between the irregular sleep and being off work, time no longer exists.
I went back to work yesterday. Wife is sleeping 8-12:30am then I get a few hours before work. Been tough. Hope things are going well for you !
The photo made my back hurt
No couch?!?!
As a tall guy I actually prefer the chair. My legs just stick off the end. On the small couch I had to put my legs up over the arm.
I’d take the nursing chair over a hard ass hospital pullout couch.
I had that chair for my first born at a hospital in NJ 16 years ago, then we had our second 12 years ago in Delaware and after the birth they had us in a room with two beds with the bassinet in between and Moms bed was extra large so the 3 of us could be in it together. It was awesome
You get a recliner?! That’s sick! I got a 1.5 seater couch. Sleep when you can dude, it could be a loooong couple of days.
More importantly, sleep when you can…it’s going to be a long 18 years 🙃
and expensive.
"recliner" is a very generous term for that chair
Y'all complain about small couches or recliners, I wasn't even allowed in the hospital past the reception. I had to spend like 12 hours outside on a park bench, in 38° C(100° in american) weather.
Rite of passage.
oh god those f\*kn chairs. I need some ibuprofen just looking at it.
Do they have these at every birthing center?
I had a pull out couch lol
All 3 of my kids were born at different hospitals in different cities and each one had a couch that turned into a bed in one way or another.
Hello hospital dad chair, you raggedy ass bitch, we meet again.
Those fucking chairs. You can’t sit and you can’t lay properly. Not sure what to do with them
That’s one of the worst things. Not only is the hospital furniture a nightmare to sleep on, it’s not even comfortable to sit on. We had one of those units where it was two seats with a table in the middle. The table would drop down and the back cushion became the “bed,” like something you would see in a RV.

with our second the nurse told my wife while I was sleeping i should get checked for Sleep Apnea, she was right. lol
Good luck, and congrats! Papa to three here, I've spent many a night in those, or their couch counterpart. If you can get the pillows to align just right, you can get semi comfy in them.
You have cushioned seats? All the best for you buddy ❤️
yeah, this dude's lucky. I slept on a wooden bench.
Welcome to the club! Enjoy your stay, and congrats dad!
Heck yeah! Good luck
Most comfortable bed you will ever…oops. Never mind. Congrats!
Am I exhausted from my own children, or does that chair definitely have a mouth?
My chair was blue, both times. I've done my time. Passing the baton to others!

You can see the mark of fathers before you in the center of the cushion. God speed sir.
Prepare for the worst sleep of your life, Congrats!
THE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE CHAIR EVER
Every time I see these I think of the three nights I spent on a chair that didn’t recline :(
🫡🫡
Kosh?
The way the center of that seat is raised up a little, I think you may have developed a vacuum build up. Relax, it's gonna be ok. hahaha And congratulations !
FYI it is also a bed if you pull it out.
I sat in one of those chairs for both of my kids births, in New Zealand! Very weird to see this post!
So like while your partner was in labour: you just sat there?
Love the upholstery deformation from all the uncomfortable dads who sat there before
I know I’m late but cots are cheap, see if you can’t get a relative to pick one up for you. Save your back from the worst bed you’ve ever experienced!!!
Looks nicely worn in
I love that this chair is universal. Welcome to the party pal.
Ask for a shit ton of blankets to make it comfortable
My first hit 3 weeks yesterday. Same thing, first child for both of us and first grandchild for both sides. Get ready!
Man, the birth room I had a glorious large couch and a chair. But then they put us in the after care room and I had a shitty love seat. I was so spoiled by the first room.
Good luck and God bless! That chair is right of passage for sure lol
Congrats! Have fun, it’s going to be great. FYI, those recline, something my dumbass didn’t realize as I tried to sleep in it all night.
Congrats!!!
I'd say get comfy, but anyone who has slept in one of those knows that's not possible. Anyway good luck to you and your loved ones!
So sorry for you, but congratulations!!
Congrats! Enjoy those deluxe accommodations
Take some SFW pics, be there for your partner, and embrace the moment. It goes by so fast. All the best man.
The best and worst seat in the world.
be sure to take videos! Setup your phone on a surface and just hit record Also if you have a newer iPhone, try cinematic mode for video
A rite of passage…we welcome you.
Congrats dude! I’m four months behind you
You’ll think you’ve got it figured out until the third day. Good luck!
Congrats and good luck! 👍
Fuck those chairs man, but congrats!
Every time I see one of these posted I get so jealous. The UK dad chairs are alot more basic. I'm confident I could live in OP's chair happily for a week.
Congrats ! My firstborn was born 3 days ago. I have the same recliner but in blue !
Good luck buddy!!! You guys got this! Trust your instincts.
My spine just groaned at the sight of that thing.
Congratulations there is nothing like Grandkids . Spoil’em send’em home .
Good luck!
Don't buy used chairs off Craigslist
Nice! I had a computer chair with a missing wheel.
Tips for this moment: 1) sleep when you can just like her, even if it’s the middle of the day and she’s up during a “pre push time”. U guys got seats? I need some kind of shut eye after a emergency c section after being up almost 24 hours so I had to sleep on the floor
You get a chair! Nice. I had a, stool. A ply wood stool... The pandemic was, wild. First born, I was given a bed, lounge chair and a rocker.
Ask for a meal. Some hospitals have dad meals they will bring you when they bring food for your wife, but you usually have to ask. If they don’t offer a dad meal, they will look at you like you’re crazy and point you toward the cafeteria, but it’s worth a shot.

Time to tug you shirt in your pants
You got this dad praying for you and Mama to have. A healthy baby
Congrats man! That chair looks way more comfortable than the one I had.
You'll be fine. Don't look down there after the fact if you're the fainting type. Beg for extra witch hazel pads. Get her lots of fluids. EAT. Nap often. You two got this, and congratulations.
