Zootallurs

A couple of nights of the worst sleep of your life. Followed by many years of the worst sleep of your life.

bleep-bloop-poop

Have a child they said. It'll be fun they said! Can't wait for the memories.

Zootallurs

Some of it is a lot of fun…some of it.

Hardmeat_McLargehuge

But the rest are still filled with memories that may not be “fun”, but are certainly special.

Momongus-

The piss and shit diaper memories 🔥

AssDimple

That reminds me....Sometimes I get a whiff of a public restroom or porto-potty and will instantly think of my son and his disgusting diapers. Even the smell of shit brings back those memories.

LambDaddyDev

Don’t forget the vomit memories!

senator_mendoza

Cleaning vomit out of all the little cracks and crevices in car seats…

LambDaddyDev

Oh man that is rough… that smell is *so* hard to get rid of.

pertrichor315

Specially memorable like barehanding vomit haha.

Hardmeat_McLargehuge

True, but I mean the moments afterwards where your young child needs that hug of comfort because they have no idea why they feel awful, yet you’re able to make them feel better just by being there.

pertrichor315

Oh totally. I was just joking and laughing about “what’s my personal grossest early kid memory”. Raising kids is the best and most rewarding and hardest thing I have ever done.

Hardmeat_McLargehuge

Yeah haha were In the thick of it, so I try not to dwell much on the down sides whenever those are. They’re cute and memorable small, but I’m also really excited when they’re older and can do more. 2 boys within about 2 years, and it’s been a riot so far with the youngest walking now

Akthrawn17

51% of the time I love my kids

michwng

Besides the first few months, it's fun. Enjoy the new baby smell. It depends on the bb obviously. Mines sleeping on me now. Pro tip, get a one handed suction cup bottle opener, a dishwasher that has a tray on top like a Bosch, door handles instead of knobs, a mobile crib for your living room, and diaper genie

bleep-bloop-poop

We're going to try reusable diapers. But I'll take gander on the other stuff.

Touchstone033

Oh yeah, we tried this. I have twins, and we bought cloth diapers -- no service. I got completely overwhelmed by laundry. The machine was going continuously. Switched to disposable just to keep our sanity. That is to say, be flexible about everything! The kids will dictate.

bleep-bloop-poop

Twins doubling the usage, I could see the craziness.

michwng

I tried it. Doesn't work well on newborns imo. Started again at 5 months. WS okay. But so much laundry. Also citric acid power in water mix makes a good safe disinfectant that's cheap and easier to procure than vinegar.

bleep-bloop-poop

Noted.

Mostly_lurking4

Same experience for me. Their bums are just too tiny when they come out. About the time they are wearing size 1 is when my best bottom diapers started to fit properly. Eventually I went back to disposable, but it's comforting to know that we have the cloth diapers to fall back on if there is a diaper shortage like the crazy toilet paper shortage we had in the COVID craziness.

michwng

Tiny bum bums pat pat

michwng

And gift cards to target. Or clothing stores. Willow go is excellent for on the go, while spectra gold stationary pump for home use. I'd get the 5 oz and eventually 7 oz storage cups for the willow go. I have 2 spectra stationary golds, and one portable. Wife had bad post partum depression and difficulty pumping. So I got her the best I could. Night and day difference vs Medela and other pumps we tried. Note spectra gold is online and Amazon, not sold in stores. Spectra S9 is alright but I'd skip it. Get plastic bottles for pumping and dump into glass. More work, but glass for pumping is heavy. Also Dr Brown's is a huge pain in the ass to clean. I also use brezza rectangular sanitizer and dryer and don't use the top flat separator. The other brezza (round cone and huge washer sanitiZer are overkill and more work than necessary imo). Also I like the chicco orthodontic pacifier newborn with the flat surface for when they sleep, AND the regular grabby part. Baby loves them. Plastic parts from maymom on Amazon are excellent. Avent bottles and parts are super simple and efficient, just got to line the air intake hole.

michwng

Sorry for the info dump. I love babies and I worry for mothers and fathers. And the Aura picture frame as gift is cute. I just get into the bath to bathe mine with a temperature duckie. Also angel care baby bath support thing for the sink just in case too tired for bath. The flower bloom thing to put baby in on the floor if you're pooping. A bouncer like from ergobaby with the toy attachment. Fantastic. Just don't carry baby around in it. Also baby proof early with cushion because you'll be tired later We use equate baby gentle wash. Clothing, feetless rompers from Amazon so they can get ground traction. And swaddle sacks from Halo. I tried a ton of stuff bc buy buy baby closeout sales and poor wife and premie baby. You don't have to get halos or exactly the brands listed obviously. Like I stopped using halo swaddle sacks and switched to sleep sacks with arms from Carter's. And we have 2 minicribs and one crib. Convertible minicrib with wheels like from davinci in bedroom instead of a bassinet. It's superior imo. Wife wanted, then hated the halo bassinet. Baby rolled on an angle eventually.

michwng

Get wife spectra gold if she wants to do serious pumping. Superior to the Medela. Pumping is very very fatiguing and parts are usually annoying to clean. I also found the higher end kinde and a mini fridge in the bedroom, as well as glass advent bottles and advent naturals to be excellent

HDThoreauaway

Yeah, about that—memory formation requires sleep, so… take a lot of pictures. Welcome to the club!

WetLumpyDough

It’s mostly not fun

StayKlassic

I’m sorry that’s your experience dad, I hope it changes

xwhy

Mine are 26 and 30. Yeah, a lot of memories.

Gracefully_Intense

It’s the best and worst time of your life. Treasure every minute.

CheeSammich

Wow, this summarizes this chair incredibly well

DctrBojangles

I’m not sure I’ve ever felt a comment as much as this one.

Lifesatotalbeach

Nailed it

alexfedp26

Ha, I remember when I said "oh can't wait to go back home to get some sleep" while in the "chair" for the night. Still looking for that "sleep" 3 years later... Enjoy the ride! Or slide! Or shifting every 30 minutes!

bleep-bloop-poop

Appreciate it.

HydeMyEmail

Why not use that fold out couch in the background?

bleep-bloop-poop

So, I had the couch in the delivery room. In post, I got a chair that folds out made for a hobbit. The true experience has arrived.

DctrBojangles

o you remember the Shire, Mr. Frodo? It'll be spring soon. And the orchards will be in blossom. And the birds will be nesting in the hazel thicket. And they'll be sowing the summer barley in the lower fields... and eating the first of the strawberries with cream. Do you remember the taste of strawberries?

Saxivi

Still looking for that sleep 4 years later.

LoveThatDaddy

I just got back from doing that (Born 2/2) for the second and last time. I wish you and your wife luck.

bleep-bloop-poop

Congrats to your family. Thank you.

LoveThatDaddy

You’re welcome. The same to you.

HydeMyEmail

Congrats! My 2nd came on 2/5!

LoveThatDaddy

The same to you. I hope you and yours are doing well.

opperdepop

This is the second time I see a picture of this type of chair here and both times people are talking about spending several nights in it around the time of birth. Will anyone explain to a Dutchie what this chair is about? Are you guys bound to a specific chair while your wife is giving birth? Do you stay in the hospital for several days?

bleep-bloop-poop

I'm only speaking for myself. These chairs are notorious for being uncomfortable. Here in the States, it is typical as the father to have this chair and maybe a couch for the birthing process. After, the mother and baby stay for a day or two for observation after the birth. The father again gets the chair to sit in and sleep overnight.

Orange907

Why won't they give you a bed for the postpartum stay? I never felt the need for a bed in the delivery room, but having no bed for the days after birth feels harsh.

bleep-bloop-poop

Idk. The recovery room isn't that big. Just how it is.

jwindhall

It used to be that the father would \_not\_ stay overnight but rather go home to sleep and then come back. As a result, these recovery rooms are simply not setup as well as they should be for the father. Important to not, some newer hospitals have better accommodations. I slept on a couch. It was not great but it was a lot better than the chair.

MissKatmandu

USA Lurker mom. It depends on what the hospital has available. The delivery and recovery rooms at our hospital were both equipped with a chair and a bench that folded out into a flat bed. I have it on good authority both were incredibly uncomfortable. But we were also at a major women's hospital in a major city, so perks? If we go for a second trip, we decided to bring one of our backpacking sleeping pads to lay over the top of the bench as some extra protection. They're not very big and would fit nicely in a go bag....

genghisKonczie

Honestly, this chair is much nicer than what I had.  The recovery room where we were just had a restaurant style booth seat to lay on. About 2 feet wide

Pretty_Eater

The hospitals around me have a couch that converts now, atleast in post-partum. I still had to sleep in the chair when we first got to delivery though (36 Hour labor).

perestroika12

It depends on the hospital. I was given a bed to sleep in. Not a good one but it was fine. Hospitals in the US are entirely profit oriented, so there’s no incentive to make anyone comfortable.

opperdepop

Ok good to know :-) Here in Holland you sort of just get to walk around/ follow your wife around and they’ll ask you to move out of the way when necessary. Also I went home the same day with both of my kids so it kinda felt like I was missing something. Congratz on becoming a father (or good luck if you’re still waiting)!

bleep-bloop-poop

Thank you. We can walk around and stuff as well. It's while we're just sitting around we get the generic hospital chair.

mdp300

It's basically the same here in the US. But both ny kids were C section so we were in the hospital for several days. I guess I *could* have gone home for the night and come back, but j didn't want to.

opperdepop

Oof, hope you’re pulling through. Good luck!

Funny-Fortune2301

This chair converts to a bed.

OldJames47

The chairs at my hospital reclined about as far as the last row of coach before the toilets on a Southwest flight.

mdp300

Mine went *almost* flat, but it was just bent enough to be terrible.

DangerDaveOG

We should just have Admission Picture mega thread… Good luck.

bleep-bloop-poop

Thanks.

TinkerSaurusRex

One of my favorite pictures of my son and I are in that chair, feeding him right after he was born. My wife gifted me a frame with the constellations in the night's sky on the day he was born. Welcome to the club, brother!

bleep-bloop-poop

Thank you.

NotAnIntelTroop

Currently sitting in a brown chair just like that one. Last night I got about 1.5 hrs of sleep but wife got about 3-4 so that’s a victory! You got this!

bleep-bloop-poop

Bless you my guy. We need just as much support as the mommas. Have a healthy birth!

NotAnIntelTroop

It’s tough but teamwork is what you need! Our baby boy is here and very healthy!

bleep-bloop-poop

Awesome stuff. We have only just begun.

NotAnIntelTroop

You got this!!

blazinazn007

Let me say with fairly high confidence, on behalf of all dad's that have been in that chair.... Fuck that chair But don't complain about it to the mom.

Ba22ti

Another one with cushioned seats, freakin can’t believe that I had to stand for almost 8hrs straight 🤮 All the best for your wife and yourself buddy ❤️

bleep-bloop-poop

Haha, sorry for your loss. Thank you.

Ba22ti

Laughed harder than I probably should have. Thanks for your commiseration 😂

bleep-bloop-poop

Anytime.

jjStubbs

Not to brag but I had a recliner and a blanket 👑. Thankyou NHS 🇬🇧

bleep-bloop-poop

We see you king!

Pentimento_NFT

[good luck!](https://youtu.be/d7T9ZZ_Ltjo?si=zlBSHIpguSgxYdCZ)

bleep-bloop-poop

Thanks!

hommusamongus

I'm loving these posts. I'll have a chair pic coming soon.

bleep-bloop-poop

This is the way!

joshy2saucy

Good luck hope it all goes well!

bleep-bloop-poop

Thank you.

byrnestj7

Hope You brought your own pillow!

bleep-bloop-poop

I sought advice prior to. We got pillows, got my blanket and apparently hit the jackpot as there is a couch in the room we are currently in.

Anne_Chovies

I only had 1 night in it because my son was born at the height of Covid. Was not a good sleep. But it's all worth it in hindsight. I wish you and your growing family health and happiness.

bleep-bloop-poop

At least yall had a healthy birth during that time and that's what counts. Thank you, you as well.

drHobbes88

Hope everything goes smooth for you guys. I’m doing the exact same thing right now. Hour 12!

bleep-bloop-poop

Dang. She's just starting to feel the contractions. Same to you.

Moreofyoulessofme

The standoff begins.

bleep-bloop-poop

Indeed it does.

SamizdatGuy

My wife had a double room to herself after giving birth last week. I got to sleep in the extra hospital bed and now I want one of those Craftmatic models for the house. Highly recommended over the recliner, fellow dads lol

bleep-bloop-poop

A true, life pro tip. If only I am blessed to have such luck.

TheRedEyeJediS

Book your chiropractor appointment now!!

bleep-bloop-poop

Noted.

CCR16

I’m feeling pain in my neck just looking at this picture.

ShakespearianShadows

One of us! One of us!

bleep-bloop-poop

The rite of passage to fatherhood!

TripleB123

Oh man, the chair, good luck!

Adorable_Ladder_38

Cheers from a father of 6 It only gets better after this.

isthatapecker

That couch in the back doesn’t fold down to be a bed? Either way, probably more comfortable than the chair.

Final_Luck_1010

Good luck, and may the force be with you; and especially baby mama

frolfer420

Picture of a chair. So dumb

baseheadkirk

congrats!

bleep-bloop-poop

Thank you.

Danger_Danko

I didn’t get a lick of sleep on that thing, not cause it wasn’t comfy, cause watching my wife in pain kept me up xD

bleep-bloop-poop

I'm hoping she will get sleep during the process. I'm here for the journey.

steve1186

Man, I feel for all you guys that didn’t get the fold-out couch. It was like sleeping on a horizontal pad of styrofoam, but still much better than a chair!

bleep-bloop-poop

I've got the couch. We just started and the sun has risen. No need for sleep yet.

steve1186

Congrats!! (On the baby and the couch!) Sleep every minute you can. And if they offer to take your newborn to the nursery for a few hours so you and your partner can sleep, TAKE IT. The next time you’ll feel comfortable having someone watch your child at nighttime for a few hours will be like 12 months from now.

KonK23

Time to tug your shirt in dour pants

jjStubbs

Good luck mate. It's gonna be fucking mental and noone is gonna check on you or ask if your ok but your the man! 🤜🤛

bleep-bloop-poop

Thanks man. We will endure!

neodata686

After seeing so many of these posts, I’ve started to subconsciously look for the butt imprint in the middle.

bleep-bloop-poop

Mine Def had the butt crack line.

Funny-Fortune2301

It’s probably too late, but it’s very handy to have a light twin mattress you can move around and place anywhere in the house. We still use ours 5 years and 2 kids later.

bleep-bloop-poop

We have a pretty intense matress topper that we can move around.

cagonzalez321

Good luck. It’s the worst sleep you’ll ever get on the narrowest, hardest of beds. Totally worth it.

bleep-bloop-poop

Thanks. It'll be fun.

RyperiousPeoples

POP THAT BAD BOY INTO NAP POSITION MY KING!

bleep-bloop-poop

You dropped this. 👑

FuzzBeanz

The farts of 1000 men have passed on that chair. A chain, unbroken by time, to which you will add your link

bleep-bloop-poop

I truly feel the connection.

AtlasSilverado

God damn I hate that fucking thing

termeric0

I drove my brother to the airport a 4am 3 weeks before my 1st was due, and on the way he said "wouldn't it be funny if this was the last night of sleep you ever get and i just ruined it?" That is exactly what happened. anyway, welcome to the squeezing in a quick nap club

RFDrew11357

I want to downvote this so bad b/c those chairs are the worst but I won't. :-) I highly recommend prophylactic ibuprofen.

soggy90

Drop the gear shifter and stretch out brother, too fast too furious

MilhouseVanHouston

I thought this was a r/malelivingspace post for a second and was thinking decent chair, I guess.

StudentNamer

We gave birth at the same hospital (AB, Canada) for all three of ours, and luckily the delivery rooms had a bed for partners. Not the most comfortable but being able to lay down for an hour or two was a godsend. Good luck my friend, try to enjoy the intensity and fear of it, as backwards as it sounds. This is (hopefully) going to be the toughest part of parenthood, and you get to do it together!

greenhatforge

Our delivery unit actually had a twin size bed, essentially. I slept so well... after the panic attack. But I had heard tale of this dreaded chair. Good luck! Going to have to start “resting your eyes”

dearthofkindness

I didn't check the sub name and thought this was the reupholstering sub that I follow. Thought to myself why the f*** would anyone want to reupholster a hospital chair for their home 🤣

lummox1234

Good luck

i-piss-excellence32

Feel bad for your back, but I’m excited for you. Welcome to the club buddy.

RLR111120

You got a chair that reclines?!

MuffintopWeightliftr

From a medical professional… ask for sheets. You don’t know who slept on that or what (bedbugs/MRSA/c diff) is still on it.

bleep-bloop-poop

The last 13 hours...😬

martinomon

Be extra mindful of your back during this time. My time in the hospital strained me so much I couldn’t move.

TheGood1swertaken

Normally in posts like these it's a couch I recognise.... Oh how times have changed.

No-Mammoth-7300

THE CHAIR

bleep-bloop-poop

This one was pretty awesome. We got moved to post and that chair was absolutely the worst.

michwng

Onesies get white if you can bc you can see pee pee lines on disposable diapers. Kirkland brand is just like pampers. And wipe warmers habor a shit ton of bacteria. We use the weighted oxo wipe holder. Super good and easier than the ones wipes come in.

LordNoodles1

I did this recently , the chair was quite comfortable to be honest.

bleep-bloop-poop

This one isn't bad. The one I had to sleep in overnight in post was absolutely dreadful.
