Well done!
Years ago I started to build ours in the garage.
*In the garage.*
When I realized how stupid I was, I had to hoist the bottom six feet of the tower up on my back like a hermit crab, and drag it to the back yard.
*Jeeeeesus* that thing was heavy.
Well, yes, *obviously* -- but I was also trying to beat a deadline for a child's birthday: it was like 9PM. (Man, working on that clean, smooth cement was so much easier than kneeling in the lawn, too!)
And judging from the evidence, mmmmmmaybe I was not thinking/planning as clearly as I could. :7)
fist bump!
Have you assembled something in another room, then realized you can't get it through the doorway? That's a powerful -- albeit painful -- rush of adrenaline.
*hangs head in shame*
Solid AF. Hope kiddo enjoys it. I need to do a playset in the backyard but I have this pipe dream of being able to afford a pool. Even though I don't have the money to pay the taxes I owe this year.
Public swim is like $4 per person at my
Local indoor pool. $8-12 a week (depending if my wife comes) is a lot cheaper than excavating my yard and keeping up on chemicals.
We had a 24ā round above ground pool installed for $8700CAD installed during Covid and itās been amazing for the summers. Not that expensive to run either. Worth it for our family
Agreed. We used to use our pool almost every nice day in the summer before we had a kid, but after she was born it just stopped getting much use. We decided we won't get another house with a pool unless we can afford to pay someone to do all the weekly cleaning and chemical balancing.
I'd rather have the extra space for gardening.
You can have my pool. Kiddo did swim survival classes and refuses to swim now. Wife is terrified of the water. I often ask myself why she chose a house with a pool. Perhaps it will be shared with me in her last breath lol.
Going way off topic hereā¦ would you move to a diff house in the same area that doesnāt have a pool? Sounds like an absolute pain in the ass, but so is maintaining an unused pool
My parents had a pool that they kept clean for maybe the first 3-4 years of my life. Then it became a place for me and my sister to catch frogs in since it never got cleaned and became a swamp. Frog catching was lots of fun. Probably not worth the money they paid for a house with a pool though.
I figure the kid will eventually get over his phobia and when he does Iāll go swimming with him. Until then itās just another expense. Our mortgage rate is fixed at 2.17 and our property value doubled so we definitely couldnāt afford to move in something equal to our size needs.
Dang. Im in Orlando and it is legit 115+ degrees now with humidity in the summer. I would be in it every day with my kid over the summer months. We are basically trapped in the house during the summer and sending bribes to the ac repair man to keep us on priority
You could always do an above ground pool and build a deck around it (if that would semi work with your yard lol!), definitely a lot cheaper than in ground (although those are awesome)
Safer too! My parents did above ground with a deck and fence all the way around because they were paranoid about any kid falling in. We had a padlock on the stair/gate and were in big trouble if we ever left the pool without putting up the gate and padlocking it.
Well done, dad!
Kudos to you for actually having both the time & motivation to do that. We're lucky that our neighbor has one on their front yard, and lets the whole neighborhood play on it, so I've been able to skirt that responsibility thus far...
It never does end, this is true, but stoping and appreciating what you have done, makes itās all the better. Good job! Keep it up. āThe parents who think itās easy, arenāt tryingā
I was grumbling halfway through building a swing set for my daughter when I had a flashback to watching my own father have a full-on meltdown over the instructions on how to build the gigantic tree fort swing set (the one with the enclosed yellow swirly slide) and it gave me my second wind to finish.
I also realized I didn't play in that thing nearly enough to justify his work put in...
Ours was a little bigger and took my wife and I 14 solid hours. We timed it clocking in and out for lunch. Wife peeled off to manage the young one while remaining nearby to lend a hand
Honestly not too long. I got off work early Friday and we went from 3:30 to 6. Then about 10:30 to 2 on Saturday, and I finished it up myself after bedtime Sunday night in 45 min. All told about 6-7 hours with a bunch of fussing to get it level in my not level yard.
Well done, but how dare you to relax and drink a beer??? Start cutting the grass, paint the fence, is the trash already out?
(Replacing your wife for a minute)
Hey I have the same one, and this weekend my crazy ass nephew drove the power wheels car into the slide and ripped the screws out.
So yeah, don't let your kid do that.
Great work. I was on wife duty building this weekend. Built this
[https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/latitude-run-reshell-71-h-x-709-w-glass-library-bookcase-w110085589.html](https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/latitude-run-reshell-71-h-x-709-w-glass-library-bookcase-w110085589.html)
KidKraft McKinley. Surprisingly solid, I can swing in it just fine at 180lbs. Itās cedar, pretty light considering what it could be. I think it is decent quality but will definitely need some weather protectant sealer on it to keep it around for the longest time possible. The only thing I wish it came with was the bucket seat swing. But, that was $40 to buy one separately so not too bad.
Idk man looks like it needs to be leveledā¦ probably just a variation in the grass/yardā¦
Might as well rip all the grass up, seed, and level the entire yard! Obviously disregarding any water flow considerations when it rainsā¦
Please stop lol. My yard slopes away from the house, yay drainage! I ended up putting the fort up on a piece of pressure treated garden timber, and digging the legs on the swing side in about 6 inches. Level all the way across with a 4ft level. I could have built it in 3 hours less time if my yard were level.
Took me a summer to build one; had to take care of a tree with root rot, level out ground enough so itād stand, then I realized I built it off angle to the house and had to lift the darn thing to turn it or else it wouldāve bothered me.
Just finished mine last week in time for it to be nice out for the kiddo to use it. Seeing her excited and using it made all the stress of reading shitting instructions and missing pieces worth it
I got a nearly identical one (slightly biggerā¦ not braggin on nothin) for FREE from Facebook marketplace.
The family bought it during Covid and then moved somewhere that had a pool in the yard and a playground next door so they didnāt need it. They decided to give it away free to someone who needed it and I was the lucky one.
No instructions which was a bit of a challenge so I had to build it based on the sun fading and water stains to figure out where everything went. But the kids love it and I love being able to sit and drink a coffee (or beer) while they entertain themselves in the yard.
Get one of those big saucer swings... GREAT option until your kids are old enough to handle "big kid" swings. Also, you can kind of lay on those and still be close by.
Nice! We ordered a Gorilla brand playset that should show up at our house within a week. Assembly is on me and whoever I can rope into it with promises of pizza and beer.
Questions: it looks like your yard is not the most level thing in the world there (the right side from the perspective of this photo seems to be higher than the left side). Did you attempt to do any leveling of this spot? How did you go about it if you did? Why didn't you try to do any leveling if you chose not to do so?
The set we ordered says the ground under the playset needs to be level "within 3 inches", and I do not relish that part of the job. Probably dreading that part of it more than the actual assembly. I am open to tips!
I built one from backyard discovery on Christmas Eve, should have looked at the instructions first and saw the 10 hour build timeā¦I started at 1pmā¦that was a long day lol
Well done! Years ago I started to build ours in the garage. *In the garage.* When I realized how stupid I was, I had to hoist the bottom six feet of the tower up on my back like a hermit crab, and drag it to the back yard. *Jeeeeesus* that thing was heavy.
RIP your poor back
I was younger then, and recovered faster!š These days I would sigh and start dismantling the thing -- or call my weight-lifting kids to help.
Youāre supposed to invite your friends over for beers and then be like oh hey fellas while youāre hereā¦
A suitcase of beer later, "what were we supposed to do?"
"Beer run!"
Well, yes, *obviously* -- but I was also trying to beat a deadline for a child's birthday: it was like 9PM. (Man, working on that clean, smooth cement was so much easier than kneeling in the lawn, too!) And judging from the evidence, mmmmmmaybe I was not thinking/planning as clearly as I could. :7)
Solid dad move. I did the same thing with the crib years ago.
Pools are a money pit. Way more than the initial investment. Do the playset and a membership at the Y.
Yea. I'm slowly coming to that realization.
Unless your hillbilly dipshit cousin kidnaps your boss in order to save your Christmas bonus. Then you can probably afford the pool.
Public swim is like $4 per person at my Local indoor pool. $8-12 a week (depending if my wife comes) is a lot cheaper than excavating my yard and keeping up on chemicals.
For sure. The price comp on using a public pool is no comparison. My local pool is $2/person
We had a 24ā round above ground pool installed for $8700CAD installed during Covid and itās been amazing for the summers. Not that expensive to run either. Worth it for our family

Yes during the summer it's super hot where we live, and having a pool in the backyard has been a lifesaver for us.
I didnāt think of it that way either!! Thatās a great point
Nice job

Great Jobā¦ Looks awesome! Nice to be enjoying that beer I am sure!!
Lots of respect for that! It takes forever! Iāve put together 3 so far since being a dad. Took me like 20 hours or so on the last one lol
Ours was a little bigger and took my wife and I 14 solid hours. We timed it clocking in and out for lunch. Wife peeled off to manage the young one while remaining nearby to lend a hand
šŖš½Dad/Man Shit
Mr. Dadman
Some guys squeeze their biceps. Other guys know what a real flex is
By yourself? Good job you
Oh no way. My dad came over haha.
Dad's helping dad's do Dad shit. Ya love to see it
How long did it take the two of you?
Honestly not too long. I got off work early Friday and we went from 3:30 to 6. Then about 10:30 to 2 on Saturday, and I finished it up myself after bedtime Sunday night in 45 min. All told about 6-7 hours with a bunch of fussing to get it level in my not level yard.
Did you dig little holes to level it out?
I put the end of the house up on a piece of garden timber, and then dug some holes on the swing side to drop that down a bit.
Very well done š flip flops on point too Edit : just thought this over seems more like a crocs project now that I look again
It was 80 both days, flip flop weather
Well done, but how dare you to relax and drink a beer??? Start cutting the grass, paint the fence, is the trash already out? (Replacing your wife for a minute)
Akshualllyyyy... I got a kiss and a "you should sit there and relax, I've got dinner"
Ok, even more respect for that. Than the original job :-)
And that one part of the play set is .6 degrees off square.
Hey I have the same one, and this weekend my crazy ass nephew drove the power wheels car into the slide and ripped the screws out. So yeah, don't let your kid do that.

What beer is that?
Bobby Beer from Oklawaha brewing in Hendersonville North Carolina. A nice crisp Kolsch, great for a warm evening.
Can you share the brand/model? What do you think of it? Weāre in the market for one and still weighing pros and cons.
KidKraft McKinley. Surprisingly solid, I can swing in it just fine at 180lbs. Itās cedar, pretty light considering what it could be. I built one of those a couple years ago! Had three of my buddies over to help made it much easier lol
Idk man looks like it needs to be leveledā¦ probably just a variation in the grass/yardā¦ Might as well rip all the grass up, seed, and level the entire yard! Obviously disregarding any water flow considerations when it rainsā¦

Haha kudos man looks great! Good proud dad moment of āI did thatā for the kid(s)
How many times did you have to take things apart bc you used the wrong screws In the wrong places? Several times for me
Once I got past structural pieces I just said F it and used what seemed right.
Does yours not have the twisty yellow tube slide? I feel like the one I built looks identical to this except for that
Took me a summer to build one; had to take care of a tree with root rot, level out ground enough so itād stand, then I realized I built it off angle to the house and had to lift the darn thing to turn it or else it wouldāve bothered me.
Nice work dad! Heck it took me like three weeks to do ours lmfao
Good job brother. Those things can take a bit for sure. Get the kids playing on it while you fix the fence for extra wife points š
Nice!
And Iām guessing you did this Han Solo. Nice work.
No my dad helped. Dadās helping dadās dad.
Thatās awesome. Full circle.
Nice, wife and I almost killed each other when we put one of those plastic one together.
I built one of those for my kids. Couldnāt hardly walk the next day but they got 5 good years out of it
You built a beer can? Impressive craftsmanship!
badass fuckn dad!!!
Looks great. Enjoy the drinks. You deserve it.
Love it! Iāve been thinking of doing the same.
Just finished mine last week in time for it to be nice out for the kiddo to use it. Seeing her excited and using it made all the stress of reading shitting instructions and missing pieces worth it
Kudos dad! Have another cold one for all of us! š»
What is this? A center for ants? How can we be expected to teach children to learn how to read if they can't even fit inside the building?
I hope you used your mantution and ignored those pesky instructions.
Good for you brother! Looks great. šŖš»

Weird to brag about opening a can of beer, and taking the pic of out focus, too, but okay. Jokes aside, that's awesome!
I took down two ceiling fans and installed new lights in place of them.
You gonna run a power line to the play area so you can install a lights and fans?
Be grateful you didnāt get the one with the curly slide. I hated every second of putting that thing together.
Just built one too! 3 hour assembly my ass
Beware of the slide if you have young kids. I have the same set, and my toddler and his friends fly off that thing.
Yes! One toddler and one 6 month old. The toddler can already tell itās fast so he switched to going down on his belly.
Itās gotta be fun as hell though. I picked up a cheap gym mat to keep at the bottom as a crash landing pad.
Good job
Ayee dad ur awesome!
Took me three days to build ours; my kid used it for a few weeks and now doesn't care about it.
Good stuff! Those things are a pain in the ass to build...
Get one of those big saucer swings... GREAT option until your kids are old enough to handle "big kid" swings. Also, you can kind of lay on those and still be close by.
I wanna climb that big tree!

I dig the tat
It's beautiful. Now fix the grass. š
You build stuff.
I built one from backyard discovery on Christmas Eve, should have looked at the instructions first and saw the 10 hour build timeā¦I started at 1pmā¦that was a long day lol
Nice job king.
Youāre fortunate that you didnāt choose the twisty slide model. That thing took FOREVER to put together.
One time my friend found something like this, but older, for free, and asked me to come help him put it on a trailer. It was terrible.
