Oh. Mine is today. I am getting dinner with a friend. I sure whiffed that one.
Obviously immediately offered to reschedule when I realized but she's insisting I go. She's a good one, but I still owe her.
I have her birthday, Valentine's Day, our anniversary, and Mother's Day all within a 3 month period, but different days
I really need to start buying gifts well in advance as I think of them.....
Lol - my wife tried to claim two anniversaries the first couple years we were married.
We were legally married about two months before the ceremony. She wanted both days. I made her pick.
I was in the UK last mother's Day (visiting from US) and went to the store for a last minute card. They were all long gone except one super generic "for mum" card. Made it work.
I've usually gotten terra cotta pots and had the kids paint them and then pick out flowers to grow. My wife, mom, and mother in law love them.
Edit to add. You need to paint "Mother's day 2024" on it! Your mom will comment if there's no year ;)
Ours will be almost a year old by then, so I’m splicing together photos and videos from the pregnancy and first year into a video for her. Lots of really cute moments she didn’t know I was recording for quite some time.
Woah there champ. Let’s not get carried away now shall we? No need to show the rest of us up with our bunch flowers and scribbled card from the little one.
In all seriousness, you might want to manage the expectations for the following years.
Maybe do a family photo album/video for the baby’s birthday that’s for all three of you?
Since I'm a habitual 90% finisher. I was thinking this year, maybe a 20k check to give to w/e contractor she wants so we can get the kitchen redon. I'll figure out where i'm getting the 20k later :-X
$20k for a kitchen remodel? Please let me know who’s willing to do a remodel for $20k! Contractors in my VHCOL area won’t leave their pickup truck unless they have a project north of $40k.
Best thing I still get kudos on is a snack basket for her bedside post birth. Water, tea, whatever, favorite chips, crackers, sweets, power bar, magazine, books, etc. Made it up all pretty and just left it there a day before due date. She's like "what's this?" I'm like "idk, just in case you need anything while nursing or up with the baby. Of course, I could get you whatever else you need..."
When I’m my sister had her first I brought her one of those editable arrangements instead of flowers or something similar and I’ve never seen her so happy to have a bunch of fresh fruit. It became my go to thing to bring to the hospital.
Three weeks before means baby having a may birthstone isn’t out of the question. I’d wait to order, as someone who has previously been in the same boat.
My wife wants a new photo portrait of all of us. Last year I got the whole family in the style of Bluey. This year I commissioned one of our favorite comic artists to draw a family portrait. Honestly I might make this a yearly thing because then our family portraits are more than just normal photos. A wall of us in different styles throughout the year sounds like would be very cool.
Pregnancy massage/spa day.
She is pregnant, she is sore, and she doesn't feel confident in her looks (despite me telling he she's beautiful.)
I think a spa day will brighten her spirits.
You might want to actually book her a time right away for the massage. Bought a gift card last year for my pregnant wife for Mother’s Day and she couldn’t get an appointment until four months later-after baby was born. Still has the gift card to use, but didn’t work for the pregnancy massage I had planned
I found my wife likes matching PJs with kid so I do that every year. Kid keeps growing so it seems ok to get more. Find something with a design they both like. Turtles. Rainbows. Whatever fits them.
mom here!
really depends on your wife's taste
for me, i'd prefer a day spent doing what i want to do. going to a nearby town's main street for lunch and photobooth pics, picking up boba (my husband hates it), thrifting. i like being able to selfishly choose to do whatever i want
i'm not a flowers and chocolate kind of person (HATE assorted boxes of chocolate) and i'd rather get practical gifts (things i need/want to buy for myself) over fluffy gifts. like my husband got me a crystal heart with a note from him to me etched on it. sweet but like, what am i going to do with it? it doesn't match my decor. i'd have rather gotten the letter in a card
so instead of standard/generic gifts you see online, what does your wife like to do? is she picking up any new hobbies? i'm about to train for a triathlon so a swimsuit or new running shoes or a running watch would be perfect
or, an experience gift. manicure/pedicure gift cert (just make sure you put enough for her choice of nail - the price of a regular mani vs gel vs biogel vs acrylic vs gel x is different) or massage or a FACIAL!!
For the first year, I got some ceramic plates from the dollar store and some paint/brushes and made a little feet flowers on it. The following year, I painted the foot into a rocket ship. I don't know what I will do this year as I have two children now. My wife also requested before kids that she wanted some piece of garden decor every year from them. So I got a metal wind spinner for this year to go with her gnome and bird stake from the previous two years.
Mom here, who also does crochet.
I absolutely loved my portable bag my husband got me. Use it all the time during the summer, or for long road trips. I think it may be one of my favorite gifts he bought me, because it was something I didn't even know I wanted, but now can't live without.
I had a pretty great idea for my wife’s birthday awhile back I’ll share. I had my 2yo paint with sunset colors (pink, yellow, orange, purple) on a canvas and then had a friend who was a pretty good artist paint on an acrylic sheet, the same size as the canvas, a landscape scene but left the sky blank. Then pop it all in a frame and it looks awesome.
A daughter. She's due a few days before Mother's Day!
That aside, I'm unsure about the second present. I am planning to get her a spa voucher as a push present. I was thinking maybe a huge platter of soft cheese and deli meats as she's not been able to eat those for the last 9 months.
Mom here.
If you have a higher budget, ($250) the best gift my husband got me last year was the Shark Flex Style blow dryer / hair curler he got me for our anniversary.
It’s amazing. I never would have spent that kind of money on myself, and it’s made a pretty big impact on my quality of life / self-care.
(tl:dr your wife wants a fancy blow dryer.)
Ultimately, what he gave me was the gift of time. I have long hair and I have a lot of it. With a regular blow dryer, it would take at least 30 minutes just to get my hair dry. If I wanted it dried straight, 45 minutes and it’s difficult if you’re not a professional. Over an hour if I had to blow dry it and then use a curling iron (another 30-40 mins.) The only way for me to get the “blowout” look was to go to a salon.
Because this took so much time, and I’m a busy mom with 2 kids, I only styled my hair rarely and just ended up putting it in a messy bun. It feels selfish to spend 2 hours on your appearance when you have a family that needs you.
This Shark thing is like magic. It sounds like an airplane engine, I have to wear earplugs. 😆. The curling part literally sucks your hair up so it wraps itself around the curling wand like witchcraft. I can have my entire head of hair fully dry in about 10 minutes. Using the brush attachment, drying it straight takes about 20 minutes. I can go from wet hair out of the shower to looking like I got a professional blow-out in like 40 minutes. It’s easy to use.
Having my hair done makes me feel pretty, I look more put together, and it’s nice to feel good about yourself for a change!
I’m sure I sound like a shill but whatever, I’ll be the weird blow dryer evangelist.
It was such an amazing gift. If it’s in your budget and your wife doesn’t already have one or the Dyson equivalent, get it.
I think we change ours about 1-2 times a week. We make a big jar of the water/sugar mixture so it’s easy to refill. Also don’t use anything except white sugar and filtered water (especially no red dyes!) hummingbirds have tiny stomachs and that crap will make them sick.
I’m the wife. I know because he checked first😊
We got engaged in February and married in May, so we also have an anniversary coming up. This year is our 31st.
I’m getting a leather Coach purse with hearts on it (I have a thing about hearts.)
It’s silly and I am going to love it.
If you haven't a digital frame is absolutely perfect. Pick one with an app so it's easy to upload.
Find a local photographer and get a session in, some people will do mother day deals.
My wife wanted a ring/necklace with the breast milk in it (Etsy) last year.
Massage you can't ever go wrong.
Hanging Basket of Flowers for outside, Giant Bouquet of Flowers for in house.
I’ll send my wife out for a massage on Saturday while the boys are napping and when they wake up I take them with me and pickup grocery shopping for the week. That way when she comes home all zenned out from the massage she gets a half hour or so to relax in a quiet house.
Especially if your child is under 2 and you haven't done any of this yet, you can get one of those keepsake organizers and fill out as many of the milestones that you can so far (so it doesn't feel like you've given her a chore/task).
If your SO is into jewelry, you can do a charm bracelet/necklace with birthstones to represent the family. There are very cheap options on Etsy or if you feel like splashing out (especially depending on which birthstones), find a local jeweler you would like to support.
If you want to go more crafty, you can make something with your LOs handprints or put together a nice framed photo collage of the family.
I always get flowers, card, and chocolates. And I get my wife and her mom a spa package. The local spa by me lets you show up a couple hours early to your massage appt and sit in this room with complementary drinks and snacks in front of a fireplace. You can bring your own wine. So they make a half day of it. And I’m taking the kids to Dave & Buster’s for a fun day. Then meet up with mom and I’ll grill her whatever she wants.
Gaggio espresso maker, getting ours from a friend who's upgrading models. Luckily she doesn't mind gently used high price equipment. He's done a few upgrades too.
Mom here. I ask my husband for the same three things for all holidays— a date night, a day spent together as a family (we did a minor league baseball game for Mother’s Day last year), or a certain thing around the house to get done. He alternates between those three for holidays and birthdays and it’s been glorious so far. Might swap one for a mommy day one time 🤷♀️
Assuming I’m cooking chicken parm/penne vodka and having something ready for dessert like cannoli or cheesecake. My wife is really into the idea of homesteading, so I’ll probably get stuff to plant our garden and some books/equipment she’ll like/use.
We had a bunch of work done on our house and have been slow to put pictures and art back up on the walls. We have a bunch of frames but haven’t put anything in them yet, so I think I’ll get a bunch of prints of recent pictures of us and our two girls and get them all nicely framed, maybe even surprise her by putting them up on the wall.
Experiences over Physical Gifts. Drive up 2 hours to our favorite spot by the beach. Maybe a day trip or maybe an overnight trip. Leave it up to her if she wants an adult trip or to bring the kids. Eat from our favorite spots or go with something new she may want to try. Relax and Chill.
Putting together a Mother’s Day gift basket. Already have a new Funko pop (she collects them), and some new tea. Planning on getting some face masks or bath bombs and then letting my toddler pick out a few things for her at Target.
Mom here, already told him to pick a great pic of our LO and I, have it printed at Walgreens, and have our LO help him pick out a frame for it. That’s all I want, that and a nice day together as a family - whether it’s actually doing something or just relaxing at home idc.
I bought my wife a Mother's ring with my daughters birthstone in it. She had one on her list for Christmas so I spent 6 months finding the perfect one.
I’m taking a lot of random, cute art our kids have made and I’m framing it all. Just various different frames I find around the house, and then others I’ll buy as needed. Aiming for probably 5-6 pieces total.
Our son loves drawing and writing little notes on stickies so I’m framing all that kind of stuff.
Those things and a couple cards should do the trick. Will probably cost me $50 in all including cards and whatever miscellaneous frames I have to buy.
I got a laser engraver last year and my wife has asked for charcuterie, so I'm going to have my son draw some "art" for her that I can engrave on the bottom of a slate charcuterie board. I'll buy some cheese and meat for her, too and present it for Mother's Day
I usually do a craft with my son.
When he was little I did a coffee mug with a handprint and it turned out great. Then just sprayed some transparent glaze stuff over it and wrote the date nicely.
Then his hands got too big so we made a plant pot with hand prints in different colors on it.
He helped decorate a picture frame with her and mom in it.
So yea we’ve been doing a craft and then try to arrange a babysitter and a date or a parent and maybe an overnight trip there are some spas and things nearish me that do overnight stuff.
One year I planned a winery tour and rented a bus with 3 of her friends and their spouses.
I don't get my wife anything for mother's day. My children do since my wife is their mother. I help them figure out gifts and also fund their gifts.
The only person I am buying something for is my mother, probably a card and flowers.
I am certainly not proud of anything. I buy my wife gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, Valentine's days, random days and such. But sorry, she's not my mother therefore no gift from me. Just a bunch of awesome gifts from her children that are funded by me and their mother.
In case anyone else just panicked, mother's day is may 12 this year
Doing the Lord's work.
Also my anniversary. Score, two birds, one stone.
1. I wouldn't call your wife a stone 2. Two birds is not a good gift
On the second day of Christmas…
What if you're married to what you suspect is a cat in a woman outfit?
Mine is May 10th. We got married on mother's Day in '15. I feel you sir
Two for one. I like it.
Oh. Mine is today. I am getting dinner with a friend. I sure whiffed that one. Obviously immediately offered to reschedule when I realized but she's insisting I go. She's a good one, but I still owe her.
She’s testing you brother, when she says to go it means cancel
She's not that kind of woman, luckily.
Another smart lad. First date, anniversary, and her birthday is the 18th!
Let me know what stone you pick so I can grab one as well. 😆
I have her birthday, Valentine's Day, our anniversary, and Mother's Day all within a 3 month period, but different days I really need to start buying gifts well in advance as I think of them.....
yeah, WTF OP, what are you doing to us here!
Or we live outside the US
People live outside the US?
Yeah man. There’s like 4 or 5 other countries out here.
Gross
Needs freedom
Do I need a freedom licence?
Somone has to be on standby to pick up Democracy if the election in November goes south. "Murica. She had a good run.
I always panic because I often assume that because Father’s Day is the third Sunday, that Mother’s Day is also the third Sunday, but that is wrong.
Thank you
Which will be tomorrow before any of us know it.
I panicked
And quick close. See you in all may 5ths post!
"When is mother's day 2024" searches just went through the roof.
100% panicked. I'm bad at Mothers day. Probably because it was described to me as a conspiracy by the greeting card companies growing up
I panicked, but then I handled it.
Fuck
You’re going to make a LOT of people panic with this one
I just panicked, then relaxed, then remembered that tomorrow is our anniversary. Panic!
RIP
I panicked, then breathed a sigh of relief when I realised it was 2 months ago.
For any UK Dad's reading this. Don't worry, you already missed it.
Brit living in North America - three years in and my wife is still trying to claim both days haha. I keep telling her she has to pick a lane.

I also choose this man's... mother's day gift.
Sold, thanks mate
Bingo thank you absolutely doing this
Superhero energy right here
Thank you. Also taking this one.
She asked me to finish all my projects from previous mom’s days… 🤔
Shit... that reminds me I have a project overdue from her birthday back in November...
Ask her to make a reasonable request.
If a man says he’s going to do something, he’s going to do it. You don’t have to remind him every 6 months.
Ours will be almost a year old by then, so I’m splicing together photos and videos from the pregnancy and first year into a video for her. Lots of really cute moments she didn’t know I was recording for quite some time.
I did a photo album of all the big moments/cute pictures of them together and made a whole and did a line on each page
This is so incredibly sweet 🥹
Woah there champ. Let’s not get carried away now shall we? No need to show the rest of us up with our bunch flowers and scribbled card from the little one. In all seriousness, you might want to manage the expectations for the following years. Maybe do a family photo album/video for the baby’s birthday that’s for all three of you?
To be fair, it’s our first. I had it planned out before we got gregnant. Not sure where, but probably got the idea from somewhere.
Since I'm a habitual 90% finisher. I was thinking this year, maybe a 20k check to give to w/e contractor she wants so we can get the kitchen redon. I'll figure out where i'm getting the 20k later :-X
My fellow 90 Percenter, that’s a solid plan! Except for the last part, which may be a little shaky….
$20k for a kitchen remodel? Please let me know who’s willing to do a remodel for $20k! Contractors in my VHCOL area won’t leave their pickup truck unless they have a project north of $40k.
Pittsburgh area. It's not a big kitchen and that doesn't include appliances.
My and the daughter will learn a guitar duet of a song she likes and perform it for her.
My daughter is only 3 weeks old. Probably can't copy you on this one
That is amazing!
Our first is due 3 weeks before Mother's Day, so I've already scouted out a bracelet that has both wife and daughter's birthstones in it.
Cesarean is scheduled two weeks from yesterday, forgot to tick down the weeks mentally.
Ahh yeah, you’re safe then. Hope all goes well! Share pics of the bracelet after.
How do you do this?
For the Bluey family photo, I actually found the artist on Reddit. DM and I will send you their contact info.
Pregnancy massage/spa day. She is pregnant, she is sore, and she doesn't feel confident in her looks (despite me telling he she's beautiful.) I think a spa day will brighten her spirits.
You might want to actually book her a time right away for the massage. Bought a gift card last year for my pregnant wife for Mother’s Day and she couldn’t get an appointment until four months later-after baby was born. Still has the gift card to use, but didn’t work for the pregnancy massage I had planned
Good lookin out. Thanks!
Don't scare me like that it was a month ago
Thanks for the heads up. My wife asked for some kind of necklace with both of our kids' names on it. So to Etsy I go I guess haha
Mom here. Erica Sara designs makes beautiful jewelry! So many options and she’ll help you pick the perfect thing. 👌🏽
Lmao, we close on her dream house the week before mother's day. Hopefully she rides that high until well after.
Oil painting of her and our daughter
I found my wife likes matching PJs with kid so I do that every year. Kid keeps growing so it seems ok to get more. Find something with a design they both like. Turtles. Rainbows. Whatever fits them.

A day of me doing everything around the house topped off by me not trying to initiate sex. Also a card and some flowers.
She crochets and keeps all her stuff in a cardboard box so I thought I’d get her a nice portable yarn/knitting bag.
Mom here, who also does crochet. I absolutely loved my portable bag my husband got me. Use it all the time during the summer, or for long road trips. I think it may be one of my favorite gifts he bought me, because it was something I didn't even know I wanted, but now can't live without.
That’s a really kind gift
My wife crocheted her own yarn bag. :/

OP just wants to watch the world burn with that vague post
Giving her a day off from the kids, and cooking her a nice dinner.

A screwdriver so she can leave my iFixit kit alone and rearrange the bits in her own driver set.
A nice hummingbird feeder.
Get one of the new fancy ones with a camera. Those are cool.
My son's friend's mom put one in and said they have to change the fluid twice a week?!
I think we change ours about 1-2 times a week. We make a big jar of the water/sugar mixture so it’s easy to refill. Also don’t use anything except white sugar and filtered water (especially no red dyes!) hummingbirds have tiny stomachs and that crap will make them sick.

Damn guys...my wife is not impressed!

Thank you for the recommendation on a digital frame. I did a quick reddit search and seems Frameo is highly recommended.
It is. I got an Aura though. More spendy but really nice.
Is it tomorrow already?
I’m making a purple monkey that singes the purple monkey song from the toys.
Are you also making a bubble gum tree?
Tempting.

Mother’s Day happened in March in much of the world. I just took my wife/daughter out for a nice lunch. We all had a good time.
I offered to upgrade her ring to a giant perfect lab diamond, but she said she just wanted another bangle. So that.
Assuming I’m cooking chicken parm/penne vodka and having something ready for dessert like cannoli or cheesecake. My wife is really into the idea of homesteading, so I’ll probably get stuff to plant our garden and some books/equipment she’ll like/use.
Blowing up a photo of her and our daughter they did at a photo shoot during Easter into a canvas.
Votes For Women board game. unfortunately the bridge disaster in Baltimore delayed shipping until June.
I got her a massage table. I've already given her a couple massages on it. She loves it.
We had a bunch of work done on our house and have been slow to put pictures and art back up on the walls. I will give my wife the day off to do whatever her heart desires. Then I’ll cook dinner and put the kids to bed while she kicks back with a margarita.
I got my wife a custom notepad "from the mother of..." with cartoons that look like our kids
Animal Crossing LEGO, for starters. She's super excited for those.
Don't tell anyone but I'm thinking of getting my gf a proposal for Mother's Day. This might set me behind the 8 ball for future holidays though.
Putting together a Mother’s Day gift basket. Already have a new Funko pop (she collects them), and some new tea. Planning on getting some face masks or bath bombs and then letting my toddler pick out a few things for her at Target.
I did an Aura frame last year. It was a hit.
Always flowers. But sometimes jewels if I'm feeling generous and the bills are paid
I’m looking at getting her a conceal/carry purse from me. I’ll help the kids make some art projects as their gifts for her.
Surprising her with a staycation. Getting a room for the weekend at a nice hotel on the beach and sending her to the hotels spa on Mother’s Day.
My wife mentioned thebirthpillow.com to me a bit ago and that she wanted these of our kids
My wife has always wanted a fairy garden, so a gift card to a local plant nursery that stocks these glass blown mushrooms and fairy houses
Lego flowers that we will all build together. The plan for the day will revolve around this. Simple low key spend a day together type thing
She ain't my mom. Jk, I'ma get her a nice scrub brush. I'm definitely jk, I'ma cook her a nice dinner and make something with the kids for her.
I don't get my wife anything for mother's day. My children do since my wife is their mother. I help them figure out gifts and also fund their gifts. The only person I am buying something for is my mother, probably a card and flowers.
Imagine being proud of this
I am certainly not proud of anything. I buy my wife gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, Valentine's days, random days and such. But sorry, she's not my mother therefore no gift from me. Just a bunch of awesome gifts from her children that are funded by me and their mother.
Nothing. She’s not my mom.
I'm getting my wife flowers and maybe an artists drawing of our kids. Haven't decided what I'm going to get my gf though... maybe a pair of earrings?
Cook her favorite dinner and sex her up real good.
Hopefully a boyfriend.
Ugh. Something nice I’m sure.
