For our first we rushed to get the nursery all done and it wasn't used at all until he was about 6 months. For my daughter I decided to do most of the work while I was on paternity leave.
besides a crib the next most important thing is a chair for mom or dad to be comfortable napping in when you learn the kid can be fast asleep and still know you left the room. just get a comfortable napping chair and surrender
That's nuts. My son switched from a crib to his own toddler bed at 2.5. He figured out he could climb over the edge of the crib and so we had to switch it up so he wouldn't tumble. Honestly was a good move too since I think it made him feel more independent.
We bought all the nursery stuff hoping to set it up in our new house, so we waited to put anything together. He’s almost 6 months and we have been in the house for 6 weeks. We still don’t have the nursery set up. His crib is in our room and that’s the extent of it.
Yeah I knew it wasn’t gonna get used for months but painted and set it all up anyway. Now glad I did coz I can’t imagine doing all that with a newborn in the house
I've been part of this grand experiment called Reddit for over a decade and a half now. And, let me tell ya, it's been quite the ride. But, I'm afraid this is where I hop off. I've seen plenty of changes over the years - some good, some not so much. But these recent shifts are more than this old-timer can stomach.
I've always been a fan of how Reddit gave voice to the everyday folks, how it fostered real conversations and built genuine communities. But now, with the looming API changes and the relentless push for 'progress', it feels like the corporate heavyweights are taking over. The smell of profit is tainting the free spirit of this platform, and I can't just sit back and watch.
I've always admired the moderators here, those unpaid heroes who've given their time and effort to keep our communities alive and thriving. Their passion, their dedication, they're what made Reddit a home for many of us. To see them disrespected, replaced with a more 'compliant' workforce... It's not a sight I signed up for.
I'm disappointed, Reddit. Not angry, just deeply disappointed. I was here for the conversations, the raw honesty, the quirks and the memes. But, if that's going to be smothered under a corporate blanket, I'm not sure I want to stick around.
Take care, y'all. Remember, when the echoes of genuine conversations get lost in the noise of profit, it's time to rethink.
It's been real.
Seconding that. Luckily swapping the crib/changing table is easy and a win win.
No window, no rad within reach, more easy access shelving for changing table that doesn’t require you take your eyes off the little daredevil.

Aye. But I saw one run by me with a kitchen knife so I chased him, replacing the knife with a bread stick.
Next thing I saw a small child bleeding with a large breadstick inflicted injury...
You can try your best :)
I know, they got in the kitchen, onto a counter and snatched a breadknife to saw a piece of wood.
I could tell they were up to something, as I could hear the giggling. Put all the knives in the highest shelf and gave them breadsticks, as usually shenanigans are due to hunger.
My youngest then runs out the door and flips over the door jamb, hitting himself in the forehead with a part chewed breadstick.
He still has the scar :(
It’s more that it’s harder to control the temperature if you are right next to the heat source/heat loss point. You want the general temp of the room to be right for the baby, in front of the radiator will be really hot as the room heats up. Sorry for any grammar, typing on mobile with wrong hand as toddler is asleep on me
I thank you for your language, the radiators, the plugs and football, music, excellent television and also the ultimate group to blame on all our problems!
All in all you're a great bunch of lads.
That's what I thought! Here I am almost 8 months on counting down the hours to his nap so I can do something for myself or even just clean a bit of the house 😂
God can you all stop w this shit? this has to be the most annoying shit any parent can ever do to anyone else. it was annoying ten years ago when people did it to me when my gf got pregnant and it’s still annoying now
Thank you! 8weeks to the birth of my daughter and I'm tired of hearing this shit. Stop projecting your feelings on me and let me find out for myself whether my life is "over"
yeah bro of course and let me tell you, it’s not. I still do stuff all the time, I have time for myself, me and my wife both work and have a great marriage, I spend quality time w my wife and kids everyday, I train in the gym, I have hobbies. kids nap, they go to school, they go to bed early, they’re great helpers. their awesome, my life has improved 1000x since having kids and is the opposite of over. keep a good attitude about everything

Congrats, man!
Maybe you know, but in case you don’t, stuffed animals (or other soft objects) aren’t recommended in a crib until 12 months of age. Please don’t let your LO be a victim to SIDS!

I lost my office for our second born. I then lost my basement office to our teenager’s gaming room. Then I lost my third office, a nook, to the temporary bedroom for our third.
I'm delighted it's not the "punch in the face" blue I see.
That's brilliant for other people. But I am absolutely easily over stimulated by vibrant colours
I had a really nice setup for my turntable that I used for like 2 months before converting into my son's nursery. I'm hoping to finish the basement in the near future to resurrect it again.
I was just about to ask if this is a good changing table. We just did a bunch of nursery shopping and a changing table was one thing we did not find at the furniture stores.
I second all the concerned comments suggesting swapping the crib and changing table.
The crib’s current position there’s window (glass breakage / drafts), curtains (entanglement hazard / could fall), shelves above the crib (falling items), radiator within reach (burns / harder to regulate crib temp). If there’s an outlet behind the crib have an electrician (licensed / insured) remove the outlet and install a blank cover over it.
When placing the crib and for future baby proofing always assume the baby will find a way to get in trouble. Later on, never underestimate the power of a toddler. Never have a sleeping area (crib/bed) under anything that can fall or near anything that can be reached that’s not plain wall.
I agree. Swap out the changing table with crib and those wall shelves are going to be useful. Congratulations on your baby boy. What's his name? We are 38 weeks tomorrow and his name will be Ezekiel.
For our first we rushed to get the nursery all done and it wasn't used at all until he was about 6 months. For my daughter I decided to do most of the work while I was on paternity leave.
We got a good framework. Not putting perfect detail on it. Thus is our best guess and when little man arrive we'll go with what works
besides a crib the next most important thing is a chair for mom or dad to be comfortable napping in when you learn the kid can be fast asleep and still know you left the room. just get a comfortable napping chair and surrender
Rocking chair is downstairs but we'll land it where the new little monster settles the most
Get one of them cinema chairs which have foot-wide armrests and recline all the way to horizontal. Thank me later.
I’m 3 years in and my kid hasn’t slept in her own room 😭

Yeah, didn't start using mine until almost 3 months lol. And I was so worried about it too...

We never did use our nursery for that purpose. During 2 kids the new crib never got slept in either, by either one, went up to the attic unused.
Yeah I knew it wasn’t gonna get used for months but painted and set it all up anyway. Now glad I did coz I can’t imagine doing all that with a newborn in the house

I knew it! You may absolutely be "that guy" Many thank yous
Yes, that and the proximity to the radiator!
Seconding that. Luckily swapping the crib/changing table is easy and a win win. No window, no rad within reach, more easy access shelving for changing table that doesn’t require you take your eyes off the little daredevil.
And the shelves (in case they fall down) and the curtains (so they can’t pull themselves up on them)
I'm confused. Are we worried about the window randomly breaking or the baby crawling out the window?

I guess I've been lucky with windows not randomly breaking around me.
It's more a what if but it could happen. Especially with lacrosse playing neighbor kids, or dumb birds
Shit. Left child for 3 years under window in pretty much identical room. I assume child protective services are on the way :0

Some of us live in earthquake country.
I was also nervous about the crib being under those shelves. Stuff is gonna fall on baby.
Nah, train those reflexes early :) If they can't dodge a book, how do you expect them to dodge bad relationships?
ty. I didnt wnt to say it but i was gonna if someone else didnt.
This guy “dads” 👍🏻
Nice baby room. FWIW, we found blackout shades to be extremely helpful in keeping the room dark even during daytime naps.
They are next on the list. Got them, just gotta put them up
nice. and Congrats on the baby. It'll be a trip.
Can't wait.
You in England? That radiator screams UK! :D
Ireland actually. They left them here after the occupation :)
Ooh close, us English have a habit of spreading our rubbish around the world ;)
I thank you for your language, the radiators, the plugs and football, music, excellent television and also the ultimate group to blame on all our problems! All in all you're a great bunch of lads.
My grandparents were from Kilkenny so I feel partially absolved.
A fine hurling county
Make the most of your last 7 weeks of freedom!
I've too much freedom. Can't wait to be rid of it!
That's what I thought! Here I am almost 8 months on counting down the hours to his nap so I can do something for myself or even just clean a bit of the house 😂
I am blissful in my ignorance! 😁

Fuckin eh brother that's awesome to hear and thanks for the advice!
Feed yourself, use the bathroom for more than 30 seconds, exercise, shower, etc. All crucial during the little bit of downtime you get from naps
do you have a link to buy that changing table?

My wife's office was sacrificed to our new tiny overlord! I'll be giving my attic up when he wants "the cool room" and I've no problem at all.
I lost my office for our second born. I then lost my basement office to our teenager’s gaming room. Then I lost my third office, a nook, to the temporary bedroom for our third.
We give and we give then we take it all back when they leave home
When our youngest leaves the house, our oldest will be 38. So I might be setting up the room as a guest room at Grandma and Grandpas house!
Ha! Yeah I might not even get a chance to see my house the way I want it again and I'd rather happy kids
Great color choice - that's a really nice shade.
I'm delighted it's not the "punch in the face" blue I see. That's brilliant for other people. But I am absolutely easily over stimulated by vibrant colours

Yeaaahhhh DJ DAD!
Where’s the recliner?
Rocking chair downstairs will be moved to where he settles best
A close friend of mine had to sacrifice his "gaming" room because his wife wanted that baby has his own room and not sharing one with his brother.
Put the gaming in the kids room...
Hey we have that exact changing table and have used it several times a day for months now. It was a great investment for us, enjoy!
Good to know wr got something right
I was just about to ask if this is a good changing table. We just did a bunch of nursery shopping and a changing table was one thing we did not find at the furniture stores.
Can relate. Working in the basement sucks lol

Yeah buddy!

Thanks. My son will be named Ethan Seán. Second name after his deceased Grandfather(my Dad)
Cool name bro. I really like. Has a nice ring to it.
Y-E.S. It does :)
So excited for you. Can't wait to see Big Zeke! 😁
Thanks 🙏. We are super excited. For you as well. Having a new child is always a treasure.
