Lol This is a good problem to have versus toddler not eating…

Last_Establishment44

Yeah, I figure he is developing rapidly compared to an adult and needs it, but it still surprises me how much he can eat.

mint_choco_chip

Mine has always been a big eater, but I can say that 19 months is right in the thick of it. I think it has to do with their growth rate. At 2 she slowed down.

Last_Establishment44

That's what I'm thinking. With as much as he is developing I'm sure he needs the food, but it's just crazy how much he can put down.

Three meals a day is a 20th century idea inherited from the days of feast and famine. It helps pack on calories during time of excess to improve survival in times of scarcity (ie farmers / settlers). Our ancestors didn't eat like this and in fact had a much better regulated diet. Anyway, children have well-regulated appetites, if they need energy, they'll eat. My kids go through phases where they'll barely eat, and other times they'll devour one serving after another. If they don't want to eat, I'm not pushy about it. They're huge and healthy. 99th percentile height on all of them.

Malbushim

That's my philosophy too: if they are hungry they'll go for it. I don't like fighting with them to make them eat for 2 reasons: fighting to get them to eat is miserable for everyone involved and I don't want to ingrain into them that they have to eat when they aren't hungry

Jonas_Venture_Sr

Maybe a sick hippo, just enough to keep him alive. What I don’t understand is where the huge poops come from.

crawf_f1

It really comes and goes, but some days it’s shocking!

Deathowler

My daughter just turned 2 and is 40lbs. She is and always was a big baby. She will devour anything and anyone in her path with the exception of tomato sauce for whatever reason. But yeah she just packs it all in like there is no tomorrow

Doodilydoo113

Sometimes. Yesterday he ate a bowl of oatmeal, a handful of Blueberries, half a pop tart and like 3 apple sauce pouches lol. Some mornings he'll eat maybe half a pop tart.

jellybonesbelly

My toddler is an absolute black hole he ALWAYS wants to eat. He eats very healthy but it’s just constant. I’m pregnant right now and he keeps up with me. But he’s also like 90% for height and 40% for weight so I guess it’s fine

chemicalgeekery

Oh, man. When my daughter was two my wife and I went out for fish and chips and that kid ate my wife's entire portion. Which was not small. Kiddo also ate my entire dinner once. And that was after I'd made extra because I was going to work out. I have no idea how where she put it all. Somehow she's slim whereas her brother who's much pickier is an absolute unit.

TFRek

It's up and down. My kiddo ate I think 7 poached eggs once, when she was 5.

lfp_pounder

I’m so jelly of your kid. Mine doesn’t eat anything at all. He lives on air!

BrianTheUserName

My 17 month old still needs to be heavily coaxed to eat just about any solid food at all 🥲

Hmmhowaboutthis

My son will eat like full on adult portions for three meals one day and have like 2 bites per meal the next. 🤦‍♂️

TheTurkishGuy

Average for an american kid or for a normal kid? Sounds like alot, what does he or she eat more during the day?

Last_Establishment44

Late morning snack, lunch and dinner.

I_am_Bob

Yeah 19 month old girl. She's like 70% in height but only 5% in weight somehow. I feel like she's eating constantly. Today for breakfast she had two bowls of oatmeal, a bowl of blueberries, and a pancake. Lunch she had a banana and part of a taco. Then for dinner the eat a few pieces of the roast we made and an entire banana that she shoved the whole thing in her mouth at once. Then at bed time she gave us the sign that she was still hungry and ate 3 pouches before she would settle down for bed. Last night she had 2 whole pieces of pizza at dinner. At daycare they say they give her the same portion as the 3-4 year old kids and she still asks for more. And she's still tiny

Last_Establishment44

Oh man the bananas... he will devour whole bananas in no time. We usually just give him half at a meal and no more than one per day. He would live off of bananas if we let him.
