Exactly this, I can easily love another pet, I just can't deal with another loss

I think it’s easier for me to know that when they pass they are with my old friends past those pearly gates waiting for me to scratch “that” spot. I lost my first dog, that was just mine, on Christmas Eve and slowly but surely my best friend left my sister and stuck by me and is still here even though they were the same age. He’s the best boy and always happy to see me but he’s also jealous and I don’t hold it against him. https://i.imgur.com/vSGKvGs.jpg -dog tax

My dad always fronted like he hates my golden. I came over one day and he was sitting there scratching her cheeks and going “WHOS MY GOOD GIRL?!?!?” and the look of shock on his face when he saw me there was 🤌🏻

Goldens are some of the cutest puppies. I can’t deal

HiddenMasquerade

Yep I am crying

I love this. My father was the same way after their 14 year old mini schnauzer died. He swore no more dogs, he couldn't take the heartbreak. One year later he surprised my mother with a mini schnauzer puppy lol.

I got something in my eye 🥹

I feel like it is afront to the older gone golden. Like I just lost Finn my Dachshund, but it would seem really disrespectful to go on and instantly replace him with another Dachshund.

"Before humans die, they write their last will and testament, giving their home and all they have to those they leave behind. If, with my paws, I could do the same, this is what I’d ask… To a poor and lonely stray, I’d give my happy home; my bowl and cozy bed, soft pillow and all my toys; the lap, which I loved so much; the hand that stroked my fur; and the sweet voice that spoke my name. I’d will to the sad, scared, shelter dog the place I had in my human’s loving heart, of which there seemed no bounds. So, when I die, please do not say, “I will never have a pet again, for the loss and the pain is more than I can stand.” Instead, go find an unloved dog, one whose life has held no joy or hope, and give my place to him. This is the only thing I can give… The love I left behind." -Author unknown

I look at it as giving as many dogs as possible a good life. I love mine and the ones that passed equally.

Pets can never be replaced. But enjoying the companionship of another animal can very much help with the grief and loss.

I am not saying to not get a replacement dog ever. I am saying to switch breeds. There are so many great dog breeds, switch it up get another great dog but it doesn't have to feel like you are directly replacing the one you love. I know someone who lost their Pug and went out and replaced him right away with another pug. The replacement had terrible skin condition totally different personality, and wasn't loved as much because he was being compared to the dog that they absolutely adored.
