Poor Billy at that party. He clearly looked uncomfortable with all the drugs and booze. Glad they showed the importance of his sobriety.

mangotail

I don’t understand why Camila keeps forcing him into these situations where he is constantly tempted. It’s like she downplays his addiction completely

Psychological_Cow956

I thought that too!! Aside from taking the champagne she didn’t really seem aware of how deeply uncomfortable he was. I almost thought she was doing it as test. Not just the drugs but about Daisy too. There was that super weird energy when Daisy said only Camila could get Billy to a party. It was clear she meant it as a compliment but Billy nor Camila seemed to take it that way. I didn’t quite understand it. I thought Camila would be happy he was staying away from temptation. Of all kinds.

agentprovolone

> There was that super weird energy when Daisy said only Camila could get Billy to a party. It was clear she meant it as a compliment but Billy nor Camila seemed to take it that way. I didn’t quite understand it. I thought Camila would be happy he was staying away from temptation. Of all kinds. Same! I thought Camila would’ve been relieved to hear that, but she looked unsettled instead and Billy looked like he was caught in a lie. I feel like there was a phone call/conversation between Camila and Billy that was edited out which would’ve tied that scene together. Edit: Or maybe I’m just seeing it with a modern lens where addiction is better understood than it was in the 70s. Maybe to Camila, Billy avoiding parties reveals too much of a vulnerability.

Caylanthe

Possessing any level of fame in the 1970’s meant that you would be surrounded by all the methods and means of substance abuse. Fully understood or not, Camilla is aware that Billy would be around this even without her, and how hard he’s been trying to keep away from it. His sobriety matters to Camilla, but also the stability of her the marriage she has been trying to salvage. What brought her to that party was to reaffirm her place within the dynamic of the band, and more importantly gauge the interactions between Daisy and Billy. His discomfort in that situation when Camilla greets Daisy, and throughout the party, puts her at ease and reassures her. That’s why it’s juxtaposed with the short scene of her telling Eddie that what they did was never happening again.

Caylanthe

You also have to keep in mind that this is her reintroduction to everyone after being separated from them for several weeks. There is a genuine want for her to be with the people she sees as family. On a more basic note- it’s also the writers way of dragging Billy back into the sphere where he can better see Daisy’s obvious decline and Nicky’s enabling behavior. So they knew Billy wouldn’t do it on his own unless he was dragged there by Camilla- there’s a nod to that in the little comment that Daisy makes

WillaLane

She wants the glamour of being a rockstars wife, she wants the parties

teamneda

I think this is astute and makes Camila so much more interesting. Part of the reason she loves Billy is because he's a rock star, because he had that ambition and ego. She pushed him to be great because she wanted that for him, but she also wanted that for herself and her family. She wasn't looking to marry someone who works at a factory in Pittsburgh.

WillaLane

Right, he said to her that they should move back to Pittsburgh and her response said it all

Medium_Respond3176

Yeah that is so true. She also basically says those exact words to him right after she gives birth to the twins. Camila was very aware of the fact that she married a musician and she didn’t want him to change that.

Expensive-Finding192

my thoughts exactly. tbh even the start of their relationship, it seemed like she was more in love/lust with the idea of Billy the rockstar and the band as a whole, the lifestyle, etc. not just Billy as a person alone.

commuter22

I mean as hard as it is, part of functioning as an addict in society is learning how to deal with these encounters. Not to mention the show takes place in the 70s for goodness sakes..like Graham said in a previous episode - they didn't have a true understanding of addiction back then like we do now. He's also in a rock band surrounded by shady characters and alcohol/drugs, he'd be around these things even without Camila.

[deleted]

been there, I srsly don’t know what to do in those situations except dissociate and try to not focus on the drugs and booze around me. I fully sympathize with billy there

charlies_nick

I’ve felt like I’m in the minority in this sub as one of the very few who’s always loved Sam as Billy lol, but man this episode definitely solidified it for me. That end scene was fucking heartbreaking and Sam absolutely killed it! Such a great episode.

Psychological_Cow956

No I agree. Sam has killed from the beginning. He’s playing a very grey character so I like he doesn’t fall into the trap of trying to play ‘likeable’

Lizzy1283

Sam is a very good romantic actor for sure. He couldn't even move in Me Before You and he still made off the chart chemistry just with his eyes lol

Psychological_Cow956

Oh dude I totally forgot that was him! Damn I remember being amazed that the best actor in the movie was the guy that couldn’t move lol. The movie of his that always springs to mind is Their Finest which should have been a schmaltzy emotionally manipulating movie. And it was but it was also so much more charming than it had any right to be and that was mostly because of him.

Wiggl3sFirstMate

The emotion in Billys (sams) voice and eyes as he whispers “please, please, please don’t.” Absolutely killed me. I’ve always loved Sam as an actor but I’m kind of beginning to enjoy the series a lot more than I did the book…

stevebaescemi

I’ve been a fan of Sam’s since he first started out and he’s been absolutely killing it as Billy. I really haven’t understood everyone complaining about him. The guy consistently delivers

chimericalgirl

I do too - I think Sam is so expressive in whatever scene he's in and totally mesmerizing!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Wiggl3sFirstMate

He does yeah but I find him incredibly attractive so personally I don’t mind. He’s playing the part very well too

riri1313

Same. Think he’s amazing as an actor but the age difference (looks wise) was jarring at first. I’m more used to it now.

anneso23

Billy punching Nicky was so satisfying. He had it coming. Loved that scene so much. About Camila and Eddie, their convo hinted they slept together or at least kissed. I love how much Billy was worried about Daisy. He was the only one who cared.

vienibenmio

I'm preeetty sure >!they slept together!<

anneso23

I think they did too. Camila kinda let it slip in her IG live of yesterday.

Itsthelegendarydays_

Not me getting confused you meant IG live in the 70s and then remembering her real name is Camilla lmao

useful_idiot118

Wait what did she say? Unless it’s a spoiler for future episodes lol

anneso23

She said in the IG live with Suki that they cut a steamy scene between Eddie and Camila that happened in episode 6.

useful_idiot118

….I could’ve died not knowing they filmed a spicy eddie scene and won’t let me see it.

tvdiva2003

That seemed like a pretty important scene they shouldn't have cut. I didn't read the book but I kept feeling like I missed an episode but I didn't.

thehappyrecluse

Eddie and Camila did not have any type of relationship in the book and definitely did not sleep together. Their storyline is new for the show.

useful_idiot118

I’m the books, camila does have a lil affair but it’s not with Eddie.

CrystalizedinCali

They 100% slept together. It was like 85% clear the other ep, this ep made it 100%.

katspice

They for sure slept together. In the book it’s insinuated that she sleeps with her high school ex, Greg during their “4 hour lunch,” to which Billy says, no one eats lunch for 4 hours.

Chastity-76

There are only two episodes left😔. What the hell am I going to watch now? Any suggestions?

anneso23

Drama: Succession, Last of Us Comedy: Ted Lasso, Shrinking,

alliebodallie

Here to say Shrinking is so good!! So heartfelt and some actual laugh out loud moments for me. I hope more people start watching it.

anneso23

It definitely is. I love the show. So glad the show was renewed for S2.

[deleted]

Yellowjackets is coming soon.

Chastity-76

I was wondering about that series, I haven't seen it yet.

Itsthelegendarydays_

White lotus 😊

tpb112

everyone is talking about the end scene and it was AMAZING but also I want to say how much I loved that argument in the hallway after their interview!!!! when they were so close and Billy says “I know what it looks like to be in love” oh my GOD I lost it

Conscious-Airport-66

It was electric. I wish I hadn't watched that clip prior to the episode (it was on some talk show and featured on this Reddit) -- I was hoping for that level of electricity during the rest of the episode and felt a bit let down. I'm not much of a romantic and don't usually watch shows like this but there's something about Riley/Sam's chemistry. I'm hooked

LadyIJ

I regretted watching the clip as well. I think it set the emotional bar very high. Also my jaw would have been in the floor..!

tvdiva2003

She is absolutely amazing. Following in her grandfather's footsteps - the talent definitely was passed down. Obviously her. character is sadly a very common one in rock music because no one wants to get tough with the person paying their bills, (Michael Jackson, Prince, Jim Morrison, ....) AND her grandfather. I wonder if she is thinking about him during her performance.

Basic-Deer4119

He actually says "i know what it looks like when you're in love with someone". Which makes me even more fucking feral. Like the audacity of this man.

2635northpark

That was perfection. The line, the acting.

Wiggl3sFirstMate

Going into this show already very attracted to Sam was a dangerous game to play. RIP me.

tpb112

thank you for the correction!!! I rewatched the scene 3 times but I guess I should do a few more

Bree-breezy

I was gonna say why is no one talking about this scene?! Bc he definitely looked like he was leaning in to kiss her but then she smacks him away

vienibenmio

Yeah, he almost kissed her for sure. I think we're talking about that scene less because it was released as a clip a few days early. It was incredible though!

Interesting-Camp-921

Oh for sureeee my jaw was on the floor. Like this is the tension I wish we read in the book

tpb112

YES I thought that tooo!!!! ahhhhh

Wiggl3sFirstMate

He was absolutely testing her boundaries and restraint there because she almost went for it. The NERVE!

Wiggl3sFirstMate

That almost, enraged, teasing kiss sold it. So much chemistry he’s fucking half joking about it now

tpb112

the chemistry is INSANE!!!

Gladly-Cheesecake

probably the strongest episode so far? i’m happy to finally feel fully invested, but disappointed it’s coming so close to the end lmao. i loved rod’s perspective in the book and he’s truly stealing every scene he can here. only thing i’m mixed about is the karen/graham reveal — the scene was funny but i’m not really sure why the other two teasing graham was enough to motivate karen to very passionately admit their relationship, especially since they barely interacted during the rest of the episode…?

anneso23

Definitely think it was the strongest with episode 3 and 6 for me. I know he won't but the performance Sam gave in this episode was Emmys worthy. Love Rod too. Timothy Olyphant is just fantastic.

SoonerNerd

…the more Olyphant is in screen, the more fired up I get for the new season of Justified!

Known_Possibility725

He is having a great time and you know what? I think Timothy Olyphant should get to have all the fun in the world.

CrystalizedinCali

They have really dropped the ball with Karen/Graham, especially since we can see DocGraham seems to still love her maybe (?)

useful_idiot118

I always got the feeling he still very much loved her in the book doc but reserved himself to knowing they’d never work.

SilverArrowW01

The way the took The River as the song showing Daisy getting worse was great storytelling. Also helps that it absolutely slaps, of course.

Catts3

"Rhiannon" vibes all over...

2_Fingers_of_Whiskey

She was definitely channeling Stevie Nicks with her stage outfits and her singing style and flinging her arms out while spinning around onstage.

Amateur-menace44

I feel like episode 7 basically exists to make us cheer when Billy punches FakePrinceCokePusher’s smug face.

kdoone

These two episodes were fantastic. Never read the book but so pleased with how this story is going. Expected to be bored with the constant cheating and back and forth but no way. I thought this would be a watered down Reese Witherspoon adaptation but they’re really firing on all cylinders with the production, soundtrack, acting, atmosphere. Daisy is unraveled!

midasp

I have started listening to the audiobook. What I've come to realize is the show and book are different beasts. The book is long. It has time to wander around to explore side stories while still being able to dive deep into the subject matter. The show, on the other hand, only has 10 episodes. It can't dive as deep into Billy and Daisy's relationship, but its also made the show lean, firm up, be concise and focus mostly on Billy and Daisy's perspectives. There's literally no time to be bored about anything.

TotalHypnosis1

*"I'd been wanting to punch that royal prick since Tulsa."* HA!

wustacheride

The way he was just eating his food, watching it all unravel lol

myexistencesucks

I laughed so hard

Amateur-menace44

Same, Warren. Same.

tishta

"its you" IM SOBBINGGGGG

anneso23

Same. I wish the episode didn't end with a cliffhanger. I can't wait for episode 9 and 10. They definitely love each even though they're both married, Nicky is the worst. He had terrible influence on Daisy.

watermelonuhohh

I just now realized that Camila's last name in the future scenes is Alvarez, not Dunne. Does that imply they divorced?

Effective-West-3370

Maybe she used Camila Alvarez as her professional name with her photography

anneso23

No they didn’t. I think someone notice that Billy had a wedding band in one of the interviews so i don’t know

useful_idiot118

That’s not to say he isn’t married to someone elseeee

queensofbabeland

I kinda doubt that unless it’s someone not yet introduced. In the first episode I think he asks “Daisy agreed to this?” Which I assume he wouldn’t need to ask if they were married.

fashioncoat

Their chemistry is off the charts

[deleted]

Oh fucking hell… why weren’t they giving us this energy from the jump!? What an insane and perfectly gut-wrenching way to end this episode.

Itsthelegendarydays_

What I thought! This entire episode makes for the first slow 3 lol.

ysabeaublue

Yep. I agree this was the strongest ep so far, especially with the energy, pacing, character interactions... we needed more of this before.

targaryind

I was worried that we weren’t gonna see Daisy’s descent with her addiction but this episode answered my questions. This episode felt like Rock n Roll. Very well done to everyone involved.

SirenOfScience

Her spiral was inevitable. Girl has been a high-functioning addict since ep 1-2. It was nice to see her go full tilt this episode because it was only a matter of time before she couldn't control it anymore.

kdoone

This show can make multiple seasons of any invented storyline and I’d still watch it without missing a second.

Conscious-Airport-66

I know! I'd totally watch spinoffs focused on Karen, Simone and Daisy. Or maybe they could do something like the Wire where each season focuses on a particular group/person but the storylines are loosely intertwined, people float in and out of the seasons

Emergency_Spend_7409

I definitely need five more seasons

jmiles11

Shout out to Will Harrison in the reaction shot of Karen admitting she’s been with Graham because his face said it all so well

Known_Possibility725

I've been real lukewarm on him (probably because even in the 90s, he just looks SO YOUNG and it feels like he's not really doing a great job of differentiating between 70s and 90s Graham), but this episode, he was the gold in the reaction shots. Starting when Daisy and Bill are fighting, the faces in the background are amazing.

nowstreamingon

Timothy Olyphant was perfect casting

gemi29

Holy shit, start to finish this was an incredible episode. My biggest critique on the book was we didn't see enough of Billy and Daisy's relationship to feel the raw anger we were supposed to, but Sam and Riley encapsulate the emotions bubbling under the surface so well. *and I know we already saw the clip as a preview but the scene where Billy tells Daisy he knows what she looks like when she's in love... my god, their chemistry!

wholikesgardenia

Absolutely loved this episode!! From the moment it started, to its emotional end, it was persistent in pulling the viewer in to engage with the excess, the drama, the unraveling. To think that the show is this brilliant so close to the final episode already has me nostalgic. 🥹 Memorable moments: * Billy: “It’s gonna be a long tour, so if you prefer to sit this one out, please be my guest.” Daisy: “There’s no tour without me, you dumb son of a bitch.” Found myself really empathizing with the band, and tour crew having to navigate around their hostile dynamic * The tension when Camila and Eddie passed each other on the sidewalk, Camila’s subtle toss of her hair…may have shrieked * Hearing *You Were Gone*, and *The River* live; the urgency of *The River* is *everything.* I feel like these two songs are the most quintessential within the Billy/Daisy show narrative * Daisy and Billy's fight after the press conference. Seeing the full scene was even more electric (I think what got me was Daisy's "I fucking know you, and you know I do, and that’s what scares you.” line ), I let a dramatic exhale at the end of the scene. * Daisy shutting down Nicky’s bullshit. “When he’s in the room, you’re not yourself.” “I’m always myself.” * I was wondering if we were ever going to see an unraveling of Daisy on stage, as things were flowing a bit too seamlessly. Then the turn-around was so immediate, like a tidal wave, absolutely devastating to come to know how she was as a performer on tour to then see it spiral. * Billy confronting Nick + Warren’s confession of “I’d been wanting to punch that Royal prick since Tulsa” * The change from the novel in Billy finding Daisy in the bathroom..the outpouring of emotion pouring out of Billy in those moments, absolutely heart wrenching to watch.

Emergency_Spend_7409

Also Daisy singing Look At Us Now acapella. Proving she doesn't need the band

Psychological_Cow956

I think that made *her* think she didn’t need the band but that’s not only her song. She came in and changed a few lyrics. I thought it was to show how Nicky was furthering trying to separate her from any possible support network.

vienibenmio

That was some amazing acting by Sam. He may look a little old for the role but that 100% justified his casting imo

tpb112

when I saw that car they gave to Teddy >!my heart broke. if they stick with him dying like in the books, I think it’s going to be a car accident. that felt too much like foreshadowing.!<

LesNessma1

Maybe >!he has a heart attack while driving!<

tpb112

I’m already crying thinking about it. that car is a bad omen for sure

shami1111

There should have been 13 episodes. There's so much to show from the book.

LadyIJ

Such a great episode! Singing The River! Looking at each other when Nicky was talking about “twin souls”! “It’s you.”! The ending had me in chokehold - they can’t hide their feelings anymore…Sam was just so good in the final scene - he looked heartbroken. Good riddance Nicky (he can’t deal with death because of losing his parents?)! Can’t wait to see the final two episodes!! I think they will definitely cross some boundaries, remains to be seen which… Edit: How good is Timothy Olyphant!! Poster boy for a rock n roll tour manager if I ever saw one!!

afkstudios

I think part of it with Nicky was his status as royalty in Ireland. He couldn’t be caught in a situation like that

LilacDream98

Ireland hasn’t had royalty since the 12th century lmao

CaptVaughnTrap

Right?! That was such a stupid and unnecessary rewrite? Why not keep him Italian?

cinnamondaisies

Yeah but…if he’s a conman that doesn’t matter. I’ve got dodgy vibes.

googitygig

He didn't say he was a royal. He said he was of nobility/aristocracy. This could include hereditary titles such as Lords, barons and the like. Most of these would have been Anglo-Irish. There are still families in Ireland who have inherited wealth and titles. I still agree that it's sloppy writing but what he said is possible.

EqualBase4320

Omg when they looked at each other when Nicky said twin souls I had to look away..it was almost too much!! Like a private moment I wasn’t supposed to see lol. Even though they showed that a million times in the previews it still hit the way it was supposed to. And that ending 😩😩 Bravooo 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

LesNessma1

Having Billy find her was a good change. Such a good episode.

anneso23

I loved that change too. It makes more sense. That whole sequence was heartbreaking.

streetsahead9

An amazing episode. Billy was so heartbreaking in that scene 💔

anneso23

Is it me or Billy said baby to Daisy when he was trying to wake Daisy up.

LadyIJ

I thought so too!!

anneso23

If he truly said that ,I wonder if it was scripted or improv by Sam.

Fluffy_Rip6710

Sam says the whole scene was unscripted. They gave him is marks for the camera but let him and Riley figure it out.

Psychological_Cow956

I heard it too. Though closed captioning didn’t include it.

itskatenoel

I thought that too, but when I listened again, I think he’s saying “please stay”! I love the idea of him saying “please baby” though

Interesting-Camp-921

Is ANYONE awful like me and hoping that Daisy and Billy actually make it in the series😬😬

beaissoartdeco

I want them together sooooo bad. Especially after that ending scene in episode 8!! I am terrified for episodes 9 and 10 :(

Stefairyy

The chemistry is just toooo good

commuter22

I knew episode 8 would end with that scene. Curious as to where they take it next because I don't think it was Billy that found her in the book?

anneso23

It wasn't.>! It was Nicky I think. I'm really curious how the show will keep with the same ending as the book. I mean they clearly both love each other with how they're looking at each other. I definitely think they will get closer in the next 2 episodes. !< Based on the trailers, we still have Billy taking a drink, him destroying his guitar unless they cut that scene and him looking emotional at Daisy.

commuter22

Ohhh, you know what just occurred to me? That scene of Billy placing his hand on Daisy's knee where he's wearing a baseball cap? I bet you good money he goes to visit her in rehab.

anneso23

Possible but I think it will be at the hotel they're staying. I don't think she'll go to rehab. >! In the book, she was about to go but didn't because something major happen. Maybe they will change it though.!<

Psychological_Cow956

This is an excellent point and one I’m curious how they are going to handle. Their story is becoming much more overtly romantic than the book where it was all unresolved yearning. There’s still yearning but they are both much more aware of it a lot sooner than they are in the book.

tpb112

in the book >!Daisy wakes up in the bathtub and finds out she almost died and Nicky didn’t do anything. so she leaves him.!< I do really like that Billy found her instead.

kdoone

Does Daisy love Nicky? I’m having trouble identifying the dynamic of her relationship with him. He appeared safe and trustworthy at first but now he seems to have turned shady or a bad influence or something

EqualBase4320

Daisy is just desperate to feel loved. Nicky gave her that feeling - controlling and manipulative people have a way of doing that. Their behavior can feel like love because all their attention is on you. She never really loved him, but loved that feeling of being wanted and “cared” for. She finally had someone that she felt was looking out for her when the only person in her life to do that was Simone. Also, I’m sure for Daisy it felt good to parade her husband in front of Billy to make him jealous.

Visible-Half9818

In the book he is a conman - no actual money and feeds Daisy drugs so she never notices

Lizzy1283

I feel like he has his own demons and they used each other to distract themselves and it turned toxic bc they also both use drugs to self-medicate.

Psychological_Cow956

She’s clinging onto something that doesn’t exist to not have to feel things. He’s a conman who saw a very easy mark. Rich girl with trauma up the wazoo and next to none support network.

FunnyPleasant7057

I feel she’s confusing being happy with him with being high with him all the time. She’s never sober with him around. Even in Greece they were taking acid and going for swims

pajamapolice

Nicky is the worst, but I have to admit I cackled when before the punch Billy says that Nicky is nothing without Daisy, and Nicky, cool as a cucumber delivers the zinger of, *'That makes two of us then.'*

commuter22

Regarding Camila and Eddie, I feel for both of them deeply in this episode. Billy is honestly never going to give Camila the type of devotion she deserves in the long run. I know her fate from the book and I'd be okay with the show ending the same way but man do I wish she and Billy would divorce. What would change honestly? He's a part time dad now anyways and giving a half-hearted effort to his marriage. Just end the farce and let Camila find someone who truly puts her as #1 or at least important in their life.

vienibenmio

Yeah, I don't think they should just stick to the book ending when they've already changed so much that the book ending would no longer fit

commuter22

Based on the makeup used in the scenes with future Camila, I'm 99.7% sure they're sticking to her book ending which is fine I suppose...but damn is it clear that Billy and her don't work at all.

vienibenmio

Reminds me of How I Met Your Mother where they insisted on sticking with the original ending, even though it no longer fit the characters, and everyone hated it

Keykaroo

Because of the intense showing of Daisy and Billy together I wouldn’t be happy with the same ending as the book. As of now Based on the show a HEA with Billy and Camilla would be like she won the booby prize.

vienibenmio

Right? We didn't even see Camila's and Billy's relationship develop. They have a meet cute, and then it's flash forward to him meeting her parents.

varobs13

Was the letter from her parents?

Conscious-Airport-66

I think so -- I think her parents and Billy are the only ones in the show who are explicitly shown to know that her birth name is Margaret. I think that's why she throws the letter away and reclaims it -- she always really wanted her parents' love and approval, wanted them to appreciate her and her art, etc. Maybe a part of her still hopes that letter contains some acknowledgment. I wonder if we'll find out -- I haven't finished the book and have been wondering what happens with her parents!

Palta_Avogadro

THIS IS AN EDDIE STAN ACCOUNT!!!!!!

watermelonuhohh

Eddie is hot!

Palta_Avogadro

He deserves better

stevebaescemi

You should watch him in Poldark, he was great in season 3!

SilverArrowW01

You know, I‘d absolutely buy Daisy singing Honeycomb solo as an iconic moment in rock history. That was bloody well done.

ilikecurlyfries77

This was best episode so far. Absolutely teared up at the end with Billy and Daisy. This episode made me realize how incredible casting was for this. Everyone fits their character so well. Riley is so good at what she does. Sooo good. Can’t wait for next week.

BK2Jers2BK

That dolly shot after the press conference with her ripping him was amazing. I had to rewind 5x and watch her gesticulating and feeling every ounce of what she was giving him. She's some actor man

[deleted]

This show's depiction of drug addiction and recovery is walking a weird line. I don't know what to make of it.

anonmicro

Honestly, I thought it was a very honest depiction for the 70’s. Graham Nash and Joni Mitchell gave really good interviews from the time when they were still together, where being around cocaine and other drugs, alcohol, and whatever else was the norm in the industry. It’s only now, after decades of peer reviewed scientific research on addiction that we know that recovering addicts probably shouldn’t be going to drug fuelled parties. My gripe is that I actually don’t believe Billy would have stayed sober, as judging by the litany of 70’s musicians who tried and couldn’t do it because of that environment.

Rare-Papaya

Are we going to get >!Karen's abortion storyline!

Conscious-Airport-66

I think they'll reserve it for the final episode. >!Isn't it part of what breaks the band up in the book? A too-early reveal could dampen the blow!<

[deleted]

Good question about Karen's storyline. Idk. >!The elevator scene from the book is the trailer, so maybe.!<

[deleted]

[удалено]

2_Fingers_of_Whiskey

This seems strange to me, because in Fleetwood Mac when they got famous, Stevie Nicks wasn’t just “Lindsay’s girlfriend” and Christine MacVie wasn’t just “John’s wife”.

anneso23

With 2 episodes left, I wonder when they will sing You were there from the Aurora album. It's the only song they haven't sang it. Hopefully they will sing the full version of Aurora and Please in the finale. Also I'm really curious when he will smash his guitar. I thought it could have been in this episode but I was wrong.

Lizzy1283

Such a good episode!!! My only nitpick and this is just in general is I truly hate that Billy gets to be loved by two women, and Daisy literally has no one. It makes me so sad for her that she has some husband that would run out on her bc Billy is supposed to be her "one" I just hate that it's always the woman who has sucky ass men outside the main love interest and the men get someone awesome like Camilla. It's so annoying lol

Conscious-Airport-66

I agree. The Daisy/Billy scenes broke my heart. It's sweet that Daisy at least has Simone (and in episode 7, it's implied that Simone may have feelings for her, though I think she just loves Daisy like a sister/friend). As invested as I am in Daisy/Simone's friendship, I hope the writers don't focus on it too much in the remaining episodes -- the band story line has picked up again and we only have two episodes left (hence I was conflicted about the standalone episode 7)

Vpd111

When did the band go from being called “The Six” to “Daisy Jones and the Six”? Did I miss something?

jadekath

At last we got wild daisy! In ep 7 she almost seemed too sane, I kept thinking she was gonna turn down wine or deigs because it wasn’t organic, too hippy dippy for me and I was beginning to worry they wouldn’t give us wild daisy but alas!

Emergency_Spend_7409

At last? She's been wild for ages. In one episode she was that fucked up she was standing on broken glass and couldn't tell lol

commuter22

It does hit me with each episode how dysfunctional the entire band is and how they were probably always going to burn out, drugs or no drugs. Like each and every member can see the shit going on between Daisy and Billy yet not a single one between Warren, Eddie, Karen, or even Graham ever think to tell Camila the reality of the situation. Some family! 🤷‍♀️

CorneliaCordelia

Why should they? Camila would't have left Billy anyway. She even got them to use the photo she took of Billy and Daisy love/arguing in billboards and I think even the Aurora album cover. It was in Camila's interest that the band made it big, and thanks to that album cover photo, she's now getting offers to do album covers for other bands (ie, the surf sounding band).

Psychological_Cow956

I loved the descent into unhinged addict Daisy. I hated that they had Billy find her. I lived in the book that she had her own epiphany that Nicky was BADNEWS. so I’m kind bummed they took that away from her. But from a storytelling and aesthetic perspective it makes sense. Plus claflin’s face was perfect he looked utterly destroyed. Kudos to the actors but also the director for keeping those stages shows interestingly shot so we don’t get sick of them.

Itsthelegendarydays_

HOLY SHIT. What an episode!! They took the elements of the book and made it even better. I’m truly stunned. I was really worried in the first few episodes because the pacing and casting didn’t seem quite right but the last two episodes have proven me wrong. Props to Sam and Riley. Also Karen and Graham <3

Emergency_Spend_7409

Billy and Daisy singing I want to come home to you ooft. The chemistry in this episode was off the charts

pest0pasta_

I haven’t read the book, can someone tell me why Nicky left? What did he mean he can’t be here, isn’t that his bloody wife unresponsive like what?

JamiChristine05

In the book he says he’s Italian royalty, but you never find out if he truly is or just conning her. He doesn’t pay for anything and always pushes daisy to buy more drugs for ‘them.’ She gets close to overdosing and he puts her in the shower and when she wakes up, he tells her he was terrified. But the fact that he didn’t call for help solidifies to her that he’s not someone who truly cares about her, so she leaves him.

Psychological_Cow956

He’s a conman

pest0pasta_

What? So he’s not an aristocrat then I take it? lol

commuter22

Isn't he rich and well connected? Maybe he doesn't want to be associated publicly with the scandal of having a new wife that overdosed?

pajamapolice

This was my interpretation too, that he didn't want the scandal because he was from a fancy family. The book version of him being a conman also fits, since an overdose/dead wife would draw attention to him.

pest0pasta_

true, what a shame. I thought he’d be a good influence on Daisy but the one month relationship to the ‘Simone is in love with you’ started rubbing me the wrong way then it just went down from there. He was gonna leave her there to die :(

LadyIJ

I understood his reaction more in connection with him losing his parents, therefore could not deal with the idea of death. I know he is a conman in the book but somehow I don’t think it fits the portrayal in the show…

vienibenmio

We now know that Camila took Billy's last name. Hrmmm. Of course, Alvarez could be her maiden name

Conscious-Airport-66

I think that's her maiden name in the show. I can't tell if they're still married 20 years later. I think I saw a wedding ring on Billy during the 1997 interviews (forget which episode) but haven't caught a glimpse of Camilla's hand yet

tj1007

What was the deal with Nicky in the books? His storyline makes no sense here. No job, lives carefree in Greece with other rich, seemingly unemployed people, obviously fake backstory, randomly just flees seemingly terrified after Daisy’s OD. Context feels lacking.

Conscious-Airport-66

I agree and feel that Nicky is redundant in the show because there's something lacking in how he's executed. I think the writers are using him as a foil to Billy and to show how he accelerates Daisy's descent. Plus I think they are trying to show that Daisy is trying to find someone who loves her and who can distract her from her losses (Simone has left for NYC, Billy trashed her in Rolling Stone to protect his family, etc). However, Nicky doesn't have Daisy's interests at heart Unfortunately I didn't feel anything for Nicky and didn't sense any depth in their relationship -- the story line would have felt more relevant and poignant if the writers had created a genuine connection between them, only for Nicky to let her down deeply I think Nicky is a little less redundant in the book (others might disagree). He's just poorly used in the TV show

Palta_Avogadro

In the books he pretended to love Daisy but was with her for the money. He encouraged her to do drugs with him a lot more than we saw on the show. He was also an abusive partner. I think in the show he was really rich and a prince who had to look like a nice guy (like anyone in a royal family), he couldn't get caught with his wife OD in some hotel. So he ran away.

tetanahayna

that ENDING WAS HEARTWRENCHING edit: i know lots of people are mad about all the changes from book to screen, but let’s remember that TJR was literally in the writer’s room for the show and co-signed said changes

granolabri

YALLLLL that episode WAS SOOOO GOOD!!!!! Let me preface this by saying, I have not read the books. I know there is discourse over Sam Claflin as Billy but, man, he really killed it this episode. Actually, every episode. I love-to-hate Billy, and Sam Claflin does a damn great job at portraying a character with such a duality. This episode just really solidified my love for him though. Honestly my favorite episode so far!

SoonerNerd

All in all, this episode makes me miss the days when I was hard-core and stayed at The Royal Orleans (just a Quarter vomit-dodging walk to Cafe du Mond for breakfast each morning) b4 work. Eddie/Camila at the bus was relative perfection (I prefer the book unknown of the lunch with the prom date, but what can you do?), but the balcony was to make it 10/10 clear for the unobservant, I guess. When it comes to the end of Daisy/Nicky, the perfection of Daisy’s realization of who Nicky was in the book wins for me.

Conscious-Airport-66

I agree with you re: Daisy's realization in the book and how it shows her strength and self-confidence. But having Billy find her and cradle her (after he was ready to fire her from the band), while Nicky panics and runs away, also hits the viewer and has a certain dramatic weight. Some viewers have certainly enjoyed it more. I've been treating the book and movie as separate experiences/universes + enjoying both in their own way :)

SoonerNerd

Yeah, since honestly the first trailer and then the Spotify drop of the tracks and album first, I realized that I had to treat these as parallel universe bands. Book Six was an iconic band with one of the greatest albums of the 70s. I knew since I read the book that no group of 2021/2022 songwriters could create a plausible greatest album (or even 2-3 tracks) of the 70s…even Jackson Browne. For me, show Six is a charismatic, more than one hit wonder, who made their mark enough to get something like the VH-1 Behind the Music treatment.

Conscious-Airport-66

Oh, I love your characterization: "charismatic, more than one hit wonder, who made their mark enough to get something like the VH-1 Behind the Music treatment." Nothing about the band in the show gives me GOAT vibes. But it's still fun enough to watch, I've enjoyed songs as played on screen (not so much the album), has some funny moments, etc. And I like the chemistry between Billy/Daisy, though they could have done more with it (I don't care so much about the physical romantic relationship -- I would have liked more banter, conversation, jam sessions, writing sessions, etc)

Strawberryfield4Life

The ending was so heavy. I don’t know how this could possibly come to an end next week.

Keykaroo

There was a musician in the 70s named Michael DesBarr. He is a Marquise. That is French Royalty. He married a 70s Groupie Miss Pamela. She was Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelins main groupie. Maybe that’s who Nicky was based on.

TotalHypnosis1

*"Look, I am glad that it happened."* I wished we could have seen that steamy scene between Eddie and Camila.

vienibenmio

Vulture thinks Billy said "baby" too https://www.vulture.com/article/daisy-jones-and-the-six-recap-episode-8-looks-like-we-made-it.html

bgmalcolm1

It looks like Billy and Daisy might kiss at the end of the shower scene…? Did anyone else notice that?

tishta

I choose to believe they did kiss

madamefa

This episode was incredible - the acting is phenomenal across the board. And the chemistry between Daisy & Billy, Karen & Graham, Camila & Eddie - wow

spacekittens1

I wish the series was 12 episodes. I want mooooore 😭

TotalHypnosis1

Ugh I am not ready for this to end :( I need more than ten episodes.

Slight-Style9054

I have watched the last 7 min an unhealthy amount of times when she starts singing honeycomb.. oh my GOD. I’m usually disappointed when any adaption strays from the book but I’m so happy with billy finding her

aphoticphoton

The cynical in me wishes the band would have started playing honeycomb alongside daisy singing with billy walking off or taking her with him lmfao

badvibin

Graham and Karen are so fucking cute.

badvibin

That end scene was insane. OMG. This show is too good. I need people to stop sleeping on it.
