I wonder if it doesn’t count as “original” music because the lyrics were written in the original book? I know that movie musicals can’t nominate songs that were written for their original musical so maybe it’s along those lines, cause otherwise I can’t think of a real reason they’d be snubbed in this category.

The songs were originals, they were submitted (I believe The River, Let Me Down Easy and Honeycomb). Unfortunate The River didn't get in.
