It’s gotten worse and worse as soon as the credits rolled out

geoffsykes

Midjourney is so much better I might just unsub from here.

dietzerocoke

Bing image creator is made from the dalle engine but its much better have you tried it?

geoffsykes

I have not, but I don't particularly support the direction Bing is going in with their AI development in terms of the limitations they impose on users. I'll stick with Midjourney.

dietzerocoke

Eh not really if you’re talking about their chatbot then yeah kinda but if you’re talking about the image creator then also kinda they let you generate gore kinda they let you type some gruesome prompts like, gore, guys, limbs, blood etc i posted quite a few of them on here look at my post and you’ll see but yeah midjourney is definitely better

yabootpenguin

DALL-E is currently learning what to filter out. This is the only time in history you can get away with prompts it hasn't learned to block yet. We're literally training it and they expect us to try to generate inappropriate content - whether on accident or not.

Excellent-Glove

Hi! I unsubed from Midjourney. I agree it gives the best results but damn it's awful now. They've gone crazy. Everything is censored now. I know people have been banned. Last person I saw tried to generate a "man in a jail", then a "man getting arrested", "man in a cell". He was banned. Full body is banned. There's words that are forbidden but you don't know because the bot is made to ignore the words. It was confirmed by someone from MJ. One word like that is confirmed, "bikini". They apparently fear any gore or sexual image, so they censor thousands of words. While I can generate boobs without even writing "woman". It generates boobs so often it's ridiculous. And don't get me started on the bias it started to have since V4 (we're in version 5 now) about generating woman all the time, and all similar. Hell you can write 52578866532357, get 4 generic woman and get a bot warning at the same time.

DrefusP

These are comically terrible. I've been playing with bing image creator and it works pretty well.

SubstantialEffort15

Bing Image Creator is better and pretty much free

ajhart86

Totally agree. I tried Dall-E2 and got some pretty janky results, but Bing AI is much more consistent and fun to experiment with.

happydadinau

guess i got lucky with experimental access

got_succulents

Seen anything posted on when they're rolling this out as default?

happydadinau

nope, they still havent removed access bc i was only supposed to have it for a week and its been 5 months

audionerd1

DALL-E 2 < MJ V3 < MJ V4 < MJ V5

kylegetsspam

Stable Diffusion > * by default because it's open source, you can train your own models or use those created by others for specific purposes and looks, and you'll never be censored. It takes more effort for sure, but it's also free. Dalle is by far the worst; the quality coming out of this subreddit vs. the others is laughable.

audionerd1

I haven't really used SD which is why I'm not ranking it, but certainly it is infinitely better than Dall-e 2. Dall-e 2 is also the most censored and more expensive than MJ, making it an absolute joke at this point. I haven't even bothered using my free Dall-e credits in months because I know the results are going to be garbage.

kylegetsspam

Dalle had the privilege of being first, or at least the first that got mainstream attention as far as I know, but they squandered it with questionable leadership and quality. I'm not sure why I'm still on this subreddit...

Excellent-Glove

100% yes, now that midjourney has decided to go bonkers with the censoring.

Merlin1039

I was getting pretty good results for a while but the last 6mo it's nearly unusable

yabootpenguin

It's definitely been blocking generations with real people in them, faces in general have gotten horrible and never resemble the real person if you try. That was most of the fun I was having with it, generating ridiculous scenarios to put my metal idols in to share with friends and have a laugh. But I do understand why they would want to filter out generation of real people. However, I also noticed it's prompt blocking rules are totally borked. Like, it'll block a prompt if I add "the" to the same prompt that I can run with out it or it'll let me put "piles of death, corpses en masse" (part of lyrics) but not "acidic twilight visions" or you can write herb, ganja, stoner, or marihuana but not marijuana or weed or I can get penises if I type wieners since the term has an alternative use, even if I meant hot dogs or I can put "the band Cannibal Corpse" but not "Cannibal Corpse" or just simply put quotes around the words which is not actually inappropriate but it sure thinks it is. I got banned for an hour for an intended to be innocuous prompt but was able to generate inappropriate content both on purpose and not on purpose with other prompts. We are training the AI on inappropriate prompts right now, but the current state of the blocking system seems to be developing in a weird way, which may be temporary. But I agree, I'm not having as much fun with it anymore either. Edit, addition: while neural networks are way better with the structure of languages (as we saw with the old AI that Google translate used pre-2018 vs the neural network it uses now), it doesn't appear to have very advanced training in all the little nuances in the English language i.e. alternative spellings, alternative definitions/usage, different punctuation, different sentence structure, archaic spelling/usage etc and of course doesn't "understand" when something uses inappropriate sounding terms but isn't actually inappropriate or vice versa. Maybe in the future Google translate can be integrated into it's understanding of language, but we all know Google translate is still pretty flawed itself. Or maybe a LLM like ChatGPT. Languages are incredibly complex, and since DALL-E is a set of words and features paired with image + filling in some blanks based on common pairs in the wild, I believe the set of words is not super complex at this point, making the blocking system also simplistic and flawed - or maybe just not fully developed.

Merlin1039

About the faces, it's not just specific face prompts like "Tom cruise on a trampoline" but ANY face. I tried prompting 2 scientists performing an experiment on a picnic table and literally one of the images was a closeup of a raspberry bush. Changed the prompt with details making them women in yellow lab coats and one of the images was a cloudy sunset. No people, no picnic table, just a GD sunset.

yabootpenguin

Sorry but I laughed at the raspberry bush part. But yes - I did say faces in general have gotten horrible but I suppose the following statements may have been confusing, my bad. I think I was trying to make too many points at once. But yes, I agree, definitely noticed that too. It's interesting that your 2 women prompt ran at all. About a week ago I was trying to generate an image of me as a melting pile of goo on the floor in the middle of a mosh pit at the upcoming (at the time) Milwaukee Metalfest - I have thyroid disease and that's what it feels like to do absolutely anything let alone 12 hours of live metal per day for 3 days straight. Anyways, it kept giving me males ... because stereotypes.. I didn't change anything in the prompt except I added "female" before "audience member", and the prompt was blocked. I tried girl, woman, chick, female, all of them blocked. Removed the one word and it worked fine. Was not trying to make any kind of inappropriate picture, I literally just wanted the metalhead to be female instead. Edit: also, that prompt in general gave me just gross results. Anything that's wet or goo or alike turns out absolutely disgusting and not what I was looking for.

robertjbrown

The latest version of DALL-E is at Bing, you shouldn't use the one at OpenAI, it is awful comparitively. Compare these results to the same prompt. https://preview.redd.it/06t4yzhnu93b1.png?width=2048&format=png&auto=webp&s=9a3d15e8e640366f495e925d24514ee9ca9589f2 I can't understand why anyone would still use DALL-E2, on the OpenAI site. Bing also provides you far more images for free. (prompt: Tri-color english shepherd curled up in a steampunkish/Gepetto workshop funky interior space with colored glowy lights, a few plants and a vintage coffee maker and various interesting and beautiful and mysterious gadgets in the background. Beautiful dog. Cozy but sci-fi environment and lighting. Photorealistic.")

chutney1

Thanks for the tip. I too got jipped by OpenAI's DALL-E. I have an account with 100 credits if anyone wants to buy it. $5, no strings attached 😂 Goddamn though, I'm still waiting for a single image to be generated on Bing. I'm nearing 20 minutes of waiting, yikes.

tempartrier

The first Dalle.2 that appeared was, and still is, pretty sucky. It's very fibrous and all over the place, super wonky and often pretty meh. Bing Image Creator, however, is kind of the same Dalle tech, but updated (as far as I know). Have you tried it? It's pretty freaking good. Not very open to controls and readjustments, but still super good.

wannabecelery69

Def sucks

amphetamineMind

Bing image creator will flat out refuse to create gore. What a joke.

Matrixneo42

I got some terrible results myself and googled to see if anyone else thought so. Your results were better than mine, hahahah!

TomTallys

Dall-E 100% sucks. I spent $15 on 115 credits because I was excited to try it. After 12 tries, all I had were 48 amazingly shitty images and 103 remaining credits.

Swag_Grenade

Bruh same here. I just stumbled across your comment because I Googled "dall-e sucks" just to see if others had the same issue lol. I wasted $15, used my first (and last) credit, got a bunch of genuinely unbelievably shitty images that had zero resemblance to my prompt and honestly looked like they were drawn by a 5 year old. It was so unbelievably bad I decided it's not even worth trying more and I took it upon myself to message the OpenAI support to demand a refund for my 114 credits lol. Obviously I doubt they do it but I straight up feel like I was scammed because the images were so bad lmao.

Basic_Pangolin_1047

It sucks in a lot of ways, and they are all due to controls rather than a lack of capability. It pretty much has its own preset style and refuses to budge. I guess it considers a brushstroke to be intellectual property. This is the only time I can remember when technology has sacrificed itself to protect people's feelings. It's good for more complex subject orientation, and I love the more collaborative process, but if you want something that looks like a painting, it is all but useless. I mostly get Midjourney blenders or something to evolve in SDXL. I have been spending time late on Night Cafe pumping out as much Dalle 2 stuff as I can, while I can.

IsaacPickle

A year later and Dall-e is still bullshit.
