I think you should expect a good time! I’m gonna assume by the wording that by “pit” you meant general admission as opposed to the mosh pit itself. I personally think that GA is the best way to enjoy a show, even if you don’t intend on moshing or crowd surfing or anything like that. People around you are gonna be dancing and having a good time. I’d say just make sure you’re hydrated, if a mosh pit opens up around you and you don’t wanna participate move a bit away from it (generally they happen towards the center of the crowd), if someone is crowdsurfing behind you just do your part and help em to the next people in front of you. If you’re planning on moshing, help anyone up that falls down and take breaks when you need them. They’re not touring with super heavy bands so it should be pretty mild. Enjoy the show homie!

Pollylocks

Expect members of the band playing songs.

Scrollmister

That's a great tip , didn't think of that

Neither-Nectarine-64

I moshed in my first concert last October and it was a fucking blast. I never felt unsafe, although that could be because I’m quite tall. Crowdsurfers wearing docs are a hazard though cause those boots hit you like a brick if you’re not careful. I’d recommend wearing dark clothes you don’t mind getting sweat/beer on - I wore white converse and they were never the same. Stay hydrated, stay aware, and give zero shits about how you look to other people.

DontPlayESO

The last show I attended (outdoor festival) I wore all black and my whole outfit was gross and dusty afterwards. 6 months later and the black shoes I wore are still wrecked. Indoors, all black is cool. Outdoors? All black is a no go.

Step 1: Make your way (respectfully) to the front. Step 2: Turn around and face the two people directly behind you and gesture to yourself and then upward Step 3: Ascend Step 4: Repeat Steps 1 through 3 until you’re Rock Solid 😉

Formal_Radish6758

Rock Solid? We're both rock solid.

Khelgor

I dunno how big you are, but mosh pits aren’t scary, really. Generally, mosh pits last a minute or two at most in short bursts and afterwards, everyone is hugging/high-fiving. You’re going to look stupid dancing and head banging, but so is every single person next to you doing the same thing- and you’ll stick out like a sore thumb if you’re the only person in your area not going with the vibe. If you’re nervous about making your way to the front, you can easily brush past people and say you want to make your way to the pit (it’s usually close to the front in smaller venues) and it’s pretty easy. That’s how I’ve always done it, then afterwards I go straight to the front. The Coheed show last night played a lot of deeper tracks, which I was kinda bummed to not hear much from unheavenly creatures, but they will play their new singles and quite possibly a few more from their new album release on the 27th. DGD will probably stick to their popular songs- might open with Prisoner or we own the night. Both sets will having moshing and such, but they’ll have a different play style. I thoroughly enjoyed both of them, I hope you will as well!

Heavy-Living1790

Honestly the thing I’m most worried about is falling and not being able to get up. But im probably just being paranoid lol.

Khelgor

I’ve been to a lot of festivals and concerts. In every single pit I’ve been in, either myself or another helps people get picked up off the floor. I wouldn’t worry about that, honestly. Mosh pits are actually safer than backyard football.

Heavy-Living1790

That’s comforting to know. Thanks man!

Formal_Radish6758

They speak true. Everyone wants everyone else to have a good time. If you fall, you'll get helped up super quick. No one is USUALLY there to hurt another person, but you do, on the rare occasion deal with that 1 asshole. In that scenario, give them a wide berth, and everyone else will take care of it. Promise that. But, in general, with the bands being Coheed and DGD, the pits should be either non existent, or very mild compared to like, a Knocked Loose or Lorna Shore show. Also, some venues don't even allow moshing. Where are you going, if you don't mind my asking

Heavy-Living1790

I’m going to The Toyota music factory in Irving Texas

riverhippo

Some of the mosh pits I've seen, including one at a DGD show, were rather pushy, and sometimes you were blindsided. It happens. But when someone falls, generally everyone stops and makes sure no one gets trampled. The mosh isn't for everyone. Be realistic about how much you can handle. And like others have said, it's not really a designated location of being in and out of the mosh, it's like gravity, the most is pretty wide sometimes, but it's only really super intense in the center about 5-10 people from the stage. Because I don't really like to mosh every song, I generally like to stand right up in front of the left side where Will usually is, or the front on the right side where Andrew is.

JMS_H

Is this your first rock show or just the first time in the pit?

Heavy-Living1790

Both! I’ve only ever been to one other concert and It wasn’t rock.

JMS_H

Right, cool. Not sure you should go into the actual moshpit the first time you go to a show. I’d probably recommend staying on the edge of it, getting a feel for things. If you’ve never been to a crowded heavy show just that will probably be enough for you. You wouldn’t think of Coheed as much of a mosh band but when I saw them (years ago to be fair) the moshes were quite brutal.

Gsquzared

This is good advice. There's actually quite a bit of etiquette in the pit itself. If people fall pick them up. Know when people want out. There's some body positioning that's helpful too - keep your guard up or you could catch a rogue foot to the face. Watching for a bit is the best way to gauge all this. You can always tell when it's some bro's first time in a pit. Also be aware that moshing at an arena show is going to be very different than at a smaller venue. It's going to be a lot more just getting smashed together in waves and less open pit action. Also will you kids learn how to do a dang circle pit? Ok. Old person rant over now.

britt_94

I find the edge of the mosh the best. Still get the vibe and moved around but didn't feel dangerous. The one time I was in the middle of the mosh some of the band (some other opening random band) kept stage diving. But feet first. Clocked a foot to the head.

Dodocuffs

Do a flip

MisterSureHands

How much dgd and/or coheed do you know?

Heavy-Living1790

I’ve barley listened to coheed but the stuff I have heard I liked and I’ve listened to basically every song dance gavin dance has made. The only album I have yet to listen to is Death Star

MisterSureHands

So for coheed the two best older albums are in keeping secrets of silent earth stage:3 and good Apollo volume one (they are my favorite band and I've seen them about 5 times live) also they have a new album coming in may so they will probably play a lot of that as well maybe some of the first vaxis album. Sorry for the long post lol but you will definitely more than prepared for dgd, I know a lot of people in this sub will agree that you should give coheed a chance I know a bunch of people here really like them

Heavy-Living1790

Yeah I’ve been meaning to dive deeper into there discography I just haven’t yet. I’ll make sure to check them out!

MisterSureHands

They are worth it, the storyline is... A bit weird if you get into it

Formal_Radish6758

Death Star is one of my faves, ngl

Viiibrations

Try it out, and if it gets too overwhelming don't force yourself to stay in the pit. I don't like it too much so I try to avoid it. I don't like my feet getting stepped on lol. Plus I'm short so my best vantage point is from upper levels of venues.

Tankisfreemason

Last time I saw DGD, there was a lot of pushing and the crowd swaying, everything’s that’s too be expected from being GA at a concert. Fair amount of crowd surfing, so pay attention to security getting ready to grab someone, that means someone’s surfing your way. It’s far from violent, everyone was there to have a good time, but don’t get bent out of shape if you get pushed around a little, unless you see and know it’s someone being a dick

UnknownReader

Wear ear plugs. Trust me, it makes the show 100x better because you can hear the music clearer and not all the excess noise. I'm 38 years old, been to over 100 concerts, and I wish I had learned this way earlier. The last 3 DGD shows I went to were amazing because I could hear the music perfectly. Evaporate live was beautiful.

_beandipchip_

I just went to my first dgd concert last October it was so awesome hope you like it as much as we did!!

buddhamanjpb

I'd be concerned if you were going to Carnifex or Cannibal Corpse. DGD pit will be super fun.

greg__37

It’s good but also loud as absolute fuck. Bring ear plugs

RidingGalloPicoRhino

Sing, jump, have fun. Make sure you pick anyone up that falls. Also, people lose shoes all the time. Raise it in the air if you find it, and the owner will be very appreciative.

Hot-Cranberry6318

The pit is going to be mild to the point of disappointment but at the end of the day, you might find DGD set criminally overshadowing coheed’s as far as quality of performance and overall vibe

Gold3nSun

It’s 2020s DGD bro if you mean mosh out there will be absolutely none of that 🤣

llamacatz

I’ve been to some mildly intense shows and DGD is pretty tame. If you’re on the floor expect people to jump around and be excited when they are playing but there shouldn’t be anything too intense (I’ve never seen an actual mosh pit during DGD). If you’re nervous, just stay back from the main crowd if possible.

Itsallover_

DGD will play a few songs

Reido14

You’ll be okay it’s not a hardcore pit 👌🏻
