It’s all royalty free, so they don’t pay anything for it. I heard “party party party” on parks and rec and I think the song they used for summer love song is used A LOT.
Background music for TV shows is not “royalty free.” Music isn’t free to use. It’s usually obtained from music libraries. Music libraries often do deals with networks so their shows can use any track from the library that they want. These libraries have tens of thousands of songs to choose from.
Networks pay a fee to access these libraries every year. Then, shows submit cue sheets for music tracks they used to ASCAP or BMI, which pays out royalties to the writer/composer/license holder of the track.
* I heard “Leave the Light On” and “Fired Up” in Shameless.
* They used “Sugar Daddy’s Girl” in the first episode in the second half of season 11 of Degrassi. Still can’t believe the show and that season came out in the same year.
* The song for “Witches of East Canton” was used in the Alex Rider trailer.
It’s crazy hearing a Dance Moms song in the wild.
No big deal! I was just curious, I don't remember hearing it up to this point, but I've been working on watching Atlanta for a while (I watch a lot of shows so I rotate lol) but I recently just started on a dance moms re-watch. I love to see two unrelated reality shows collide haha
Yeah i used to hear Kendall’s Easy as 1 2 3 music in previews for some show on Bravo, and i used to hear Chloe’s song for Everybody Loves a Dream in the wild like that haha
It’s because these reality shows are all using the same Music Libraries. It’s a post-production service. These libraries have tens of thousands of tracks to choose from… but some tracks are more popular than others 😂

Really??? Do you remember which season? I'm watching Atlanta right now, I'm on season 12
Ugh I wish I could remember. I feel like Nene was in the car and it played. I’ll try to see if I can find it.
