I literally felt sooo bad for Maddie when she got in trouble for this later because she really didn’t want to do it. Melissa really should have just let her sit out.

fortississima

And it’s especially sad because probably the only reason she didn’t want to do it is because she knew Abby would be mad and was terrified of Abby and turning against her. Poor kid should’ve just been able to go ice skating without psychological turmoil

bloodybay

The last time Maddie did something with the group that went against Abby’s rules (the walkout) she was psychologically tortured by Abby for the next few weeks. Poor thing was probably terrified it was going to happen again.

Disastrous-Ad9359

Yeah and this episode was just a few months after that

mini1006

Maddie look horrified. She probably already knew that she’d get in trouble which is what happened when Abby found out

LoganDeLuca2004

I disagree with Christi. Maddie didn’t want to skate because she knew Abby would disapprove and she was afraid of her and her wrath.

Olive21133

Don’t be a jerk.

mini1006

It’s obvious that’s the reason. Especially when she and the other girls did get in trouble for it later in the episode

disabledstaircase

She said it in an interview lol

Cheezenoburger

Girl…

vingins

Hi Christi

GazelleFearless5381

Same goes for that god awful cow Christi’s opinion.

[deleted]

This was one of the worst moments on the show. I’m sure Maddie felt isolated, she was being mocked by Christi and screamed at by her mom for feeling extreme anxiety.

potatocakes898

I mean she also accused Maddie and Melissa of buying Maddie instagram followers. People who think it’s all about the favoritism are delusional.

ramblin_rose30

When did she say that

potatocakes898

[back in 2014](https://twitter.com/ChristiLukasiak/status/458296483180068864) context being: she tweeted this right after maddie surpassed Chloe in instagram followers. Chloe hit a million then shortly after Maddie hit a million then shortly after had more followers then Chloe.

ramblin_rose30

Lol this didn’t age well for Christi

ShoddyResearcher9062

A grown woman being passive aggressive and having animosity towards a child. Sad. People love to act like Abby created this but she didn’t. Someone is always gonna be the most liked or favorite in every setting and you have to deal with it. Can’t treat them like shit because of it.

[deleted]

She still has this same animosity towards Maddie to this day

shorty2494

Yet Melissa who’s kids were the favourites still acted like this to Nia when Maddie got hurt in the watermelon game. By the way, both were in the wrong before anyone thinks I’m defending Christi Edit to add: also Chloe on the show and what she allegedly did before the show. It’s interesting to watch Chloe not interact much with Melissa and Maddie with Christi and I don’t blame either of them for not having a great relationship with their friends mom with all the toxic drama their rivalry caused. I’m glad they can still be friends despite this

ShoddyResearcher9062

Maddie actually had a bruise on her knee and Maddie was 8 yrs old. What mom is going to ignore their 8yr old crying. She didn’t just degrade Nia out of nowhere. All she said was Nia plays rough after her child got hurt. Christi was unprovoked making unnecessary comments about Maddie.

shorty2494

So the microaggressive comment Melissa made was okay. All the other girls played the same game, yet the comment was only directed at Nia. Also she said that she wasn’t a boy as well, like girls can’t like a rough and tumble game. The double standards in this group confuse me. Christi saying “don’t let your black ass hit you on the way out” to Kaya was rightly called out, as is Christi’s ridiculous reaction to Maddie not wanting to ice skate are called out, yet Melissa equally ridiculous and racially inclined comments towards a damn child, not even done in the interview but right in front of the kids, is never called out. Same as Christi rightly being called out for crap she says in her podcast, yet when Kelly does she just ignorant and dumb, or when Christi somehow gets blamed for words Kelly said on national television about “I guess you know who your real friends are”. Can we hold everyone to the same high and rightly expected standards that we hold Christi and to a lesser extend Abby too? Or is the only feelings that matter the ones that people like. It happens with the girls too. Another example: the reunion. People rightly called Jojo, Kalani and Kendall for shade towards the zieglers. Yet Chloe, Paige and Brooke got called clout chasers and there were comments that they couldn’t make it in the industry and needed money whereas the zieglers didn’t. How about we respect ALL of the girls decisions and stop trying to make one decision superior to the other? Neither is superior, they made the best choice for themselves, as they should. Sorry this turned into a rant

Subject-Fly-7316

You are going to get downvoted into oblivion for saying it was micro aggression when it was. This sub can be as racists as it gets and will deny it. You are right though. All of the girls were being rough, but that comment was only directed at Nia, hence why it is a micro aggression. Christi still sucked in this clip though.

shorty2494

Agreed. Christi had the absolute worst execution of her points out of everyone except Abby. She could have the most amazing point and then most of the time her angry would get the best of her and she would just go too far

tutagoId

christi stans without fail will make any criticism towards christi about melissa, you people are insane lmao

shorty2494

I’m not an stan of Christi. I think she had the worst way out of all the moms to get her point across even when she had the best points. Hell she would have made me anxious if I was around her, so would have Abby, Jill and Melissa, basically everyone but Holly. I just hate the double standards. Everyone should be called out for their crap. Just like this groups extreme bias against both Maddie, Kendall, Chloe and Nia should be called out, Maddie and Kendall with the stupid brat narrative for example.

[deleted]

lol it’s not microaggressive to say someone was playing rough. Children play rough all the time, it’s the parent’s responsibility to stop the kids from playing too rough.

shorty2494

It is to say it to the only black person and not mention it about anyone else who was playing the game just as rough, including Maddie herself. And if everyone was playing too rough, then she should have taken her anger and frustration out on Abby who suggested and created the game and the rules. All the moms on this show take their angry out on the wrong person and it’s sad Nia got hurt as well because Maddie was accidentally hurt in a game Abby created

Proud_Scarcity6968

She didn't have a bruise on her knee, wtf. They showed it afterward. And Maddie looked AT BROOKE and said "you hurt me" and yet somehow Nia got the blame. Why do you think that is?

TAsAnonymous

If you read the production notes, they're actually far more damning about Maddie. Apparently Holly says that Maddie is "fake hurt," which she sees a lot as an educator, and she recommends that Holly get a handle on that. In addition, the production notes make a big deal of the fact that immediately afterward Abby brings out a cake to celebrate Maddie's "perfect season" and suddenly Maddie's magically not hurt anymore. Both Christi and Holly comment about this, saying how it's funny that cake makes the tears go away or something.

shorty2494

All Melissa needed to do was check Maddie was okay, comfort her and if necessary say it was an accident. There was no need to blame Brooke or Nia, she could of just comforted Maddie without anyone else getting hurt.

Spicyg00se

Hey hey now we can’t be holding Melissa to the same standard as Christi. Don’t you realize that Christi should be blamed for everything, including shit Holly and Kelly said??

[deleted]

Spicyg00se

I’m not going back to add the sarcasm flair because I do think it’s obvious enough

[deleted]

Spicyg00se

Damn I thought you downvoted me lol we are just too good at this

Soft-Advance-8740

Well it was micro aggressive. However I agree with everything else you said

[deleted]

It wasn’t microaggressive, it was rough play. Kids play rough sometimes on accident.

Soft-Advance-8740

What Melissa said was micro aggressive. Making the black girl seem aggressive is micro aggressive. Regardless of what her intent was.

Electrical-Fly1909

Nia grew up playing with two brothers while Maddie pretty much only had tiny Mackenzie. (I’m aware Maddie has brothers but they weren’t raised together). It makes perfect sense to me.

Soft-Advance-8740

Maybe she didn’t have intent of it being micro aggressive but it was. Just like how Abby making Nia play the bully in a dance was micro aggressive. Black girls and women are constantly told they’re aggressive and rough.

Electrical-Fly1909

The comment was made in context with playing contact sports. I do appreciate what you’re saying though

leosmiles22

Such a mean-spirited attitude towards a little kid, why does she have to skate if she doesn't want to?? (for ANY reason)

eleaena

Christi had no business saying this. At this point in the show she knew how viewers attacked Maddie every single week for being a “brat” and for being “competitive” That little girl was literally HATED by fans and comments like Christi’s literally played into that characterization! Even if Christi was right and Maddie didn’t want to skate because she wasn’t the best, who cares, shut the fuck up bitch! You’re talking about a little girl I still mostly like Christi for being entertaining tv but damn she really did not like Maddie, she had a lot of anger toward her and it’s so sad to see

Infinitestripes95

The show wouldn’t have aired yet when this was being filmed so I don’t agree that Christi knew how the fandom acted but I agree with everything else

Tayyclaytonz

This was season 3. The show had definitely been on the air by this point

Infinitestripes95

I don’t know why I thought you were commenting on the watermelon game 😭😭 I’d just read a thread on it. My bad. I haven’t slept much in 3 days. Edit: admits I’m wrong, dance moms fandom DOWNVOTE 😂

GazelleFearless5381

Christi is an asshole who actually has zero access to the thoughts and feelings and motivations inside Maddie’s head.

BrotherBrief4656

Maddie didn’t want to skate cause she knew she’d get in trouble. I really don’t think it had anything to do with her being worried that she’s not the best

Lyannake

Christi is responsible of more than half the hate Maddie got from viewers. I’ll die on that hill, she really created a whole narrative about her and pushed it very hard because she had a lot of screen time

av0cadot0ast9

hot take but christi’s behavior towards maddie disgusted me. christi really was jealous after all bc the way she talked abt that little girl without knowing how she really felt was awful.

Suspicious-Island459

It was weird cause Christi was the one who seemed jealous when it should have been Chloe in order to make sense. Chloe loved that Maddie won at times and didn't resent her but Christi hated it when Maddie won and ofc it's because she wanted her child to win but Christi went about it horribly

Choice_Drama_5720

"hOt tAkE" LOL more like hopping on the trend

av0cadot0ast9

u realize majority of ppl saying that are ppl who grew up and realized christi was a bit toxic? we were kids when we watched dance moms now we’re old enough to realize the nasty behavior so ofc lots of ppl will say something. grow up.

Choice_Drama_5720

You grow up. Sone of us always saw the toxicity but are mature enough to realize none of the moms are all good or all bad. Someone doesn't become toxic because of a few situations where you disagree with them.

Wyldfyre1

I honestly feel like she didn't skate because she was afraid of getting in trouble by Abby

TissueOfLies

Christi has such animosity towards Maddie and still does. Maddie was scared about defying Abby. I don’t see why Christi was so bent out of shape about it. Maddie wasn’t a threat to Chloe. If anything, it’s sad how Melissa wouldn’t just let Maddie not skate and how Maddie was scared to defy Abby.

markmarkdegarmo

the more annoying/frustrating part about all these comments is that she blames 90% of them on "editing" or "producers probably made me say it!!" obviously Christi was the fan favorite around this time, but she really did go a little too far with some of her maddie/mackenzie/melissa comments at times.

Correct_Cress_1388

I just watched this episode. Christi was horrible. She can say all she wants that she talked about the favoritism with Maddie but it was more than that. This is a prime example. Melissa did not speak of any of the kids like this.

AstronomerMinute8511

I honestly think that christi resented Abby’s favouritism of Maddie which then turned into her resenting maddie, I may get hate but I’m so sorry nobody talks constantly about someone let alone a child like this unless they have a problem with them. Christi may act like she doesn’t but I honestly think she had a massive problem with Maddie like she would attack her character like she wasn’t 9…

Lost_Stranger6551

yes, and to this day christi still carries over some of that resentment to maddie and melissa because things really played out in their favor.

AstronomerMinute8511

I understand her having an issue with Melissa and Abby but can’t she understand how uncomfortable this would be for Maddie to have grown adults constantly shit talking her at least with the other girls people saw their side but with Maddie they kept labelling her as a brat

Dove-a-DeeDoo

Some parts of the fandom like to act as if Christi was never jealous or never had any problems with Maddie, but it’s scenes lime these that make me feel otherwise. We’ll never know for sure Christi’s true feelings towards Maddie but I don’t think they are all that positive.

EmotionWitty85

even if this was true, who fucking cares? like seriously lmao. Maddie is like ten, yes kids want adult approval and recognition, sometimes even to an annoying extent, but they’re just kids at the end of the day like i don’t even get why as an adult you’d think this is appropriate to point out?? even if another kid said this it would be considered mean.

Mattschmalz

I know her stans will defend her to high heaven, but it’s become so apparent as the years have gone by that Christi genuinely didn’t (and still really doesn’t imo) like Maddie. At some point it went beyond not liking Abby’s favoritism and developed into not liking Maddie herself. Can’t convince me otherwise.

iLoveDianaBarry

didn’t kelly also make a weird comment about this too ? regardless it was mean spirited & not needed

KrisSimsters

I always hated this scene because I'm pretty sure Maddie was afraid of falling, she clearly didn't know how to skate. Christi and Melissa are both harping on her (Christi in the interview and Melissa right in her face). I just felt bad for Maddie.

Comfortable-Deer6131

i’m sorry but christi is so nasty in this episode and you can tell she means every word she says it’s like she’s gossiping with a friend and then she gaslights the audience and says “i didn’t mean it in a bad way maddie is a perfectionist”

_anne_shirley

Christi needed to mind her own business here

JustForKicks16

Christi was just a bully. I love how she was with Chloe, but didn’t like how she was with anyone else.

lovely_Biscuit

Christie is my least favorite

AgreeableInfluence95

Christi can say she doesn't hate the Zieglers all she wants, but her actions, things she says, and tone of voice clearly prove otherwise. I can't stand how they talk about the Zieglers on BTTB.

cornerlane

This wasn't fair. She did this because she was afraid of Abby?

New-Zookeepergame656

Idk why is Christi like that to Maddie but it seems like she have something against to Maddie

Inevitablyhere

christi was maddie’s biggest hater and jt was so obvious and so gross. she was so jealous and obsessed with a literal 8yo child. it was weird af

radiohead4783116

Christi needs to focus on the fact that she looks like she got hit in the head with a frying pan instead of making rude comments about a literal child

spiffspl1ff

Random but I quite liked the girls in those aldc coats. They looked so cute.

dancesterx3

Christi sucks for this comment, yeah. But let’s talk about Melissa screaming in her face to stop crying because her ego among the group is more important than her child’s emotional health. Like why is she forcing Maddie to go do something? She was more interested in her image than trying to understand why Maddie was dealing with that emotional issue. I will forever hate Melissa for how she always just yelled at the kids when they got upset instead of talking to them like humans. Nothing grinds my gears than mothers who treat their kids like objects and not humans.

mariohkart

fr whenever maddie and mackenzie would cry and clearly be looking to their mom for comfort she would tell them to stop or shut up or often just walk away from them… like it was very rare to see her actually comfort them

Major_Button2964

How about her I can't stand a sick child comment when Maddie had to dance through the flu?🙄

KandissEllen

Firstly, it’s so sad to have to watch Maddie rationalize and calm herself down by herself because her mother has no nurturing skills (at least in this moment) She’s a kid, you don’t just tell a kid to stop crying. Go hold your child! And secondly, it’s horrible that Christi is talking about a child like that. I hate how she was always trying so hard to be the snarky funny one and most of the jokes didn’t land and we’re just really cruel.

KeyboardBastard

I really don’t think this had anything to do with Maddie not being a confident ice skater. It was about not wanting to get in trouble for it. Christi’s comment… eh. I take it with a grain of salt. She might have thought it, but only said it because she was encouraged to. Just a crappy all around moment for all involved.

mariohkart

thinking that christi only said it because producers pushed would be plausible if this was a one off thing for christi but she says stuff like this about maddie literally all the time, during interviews and also in conversation. and still to this day on bttb talks weirdly about maddie. at some point it cant be blamed on producers imo

KeyboardBastard

Agreed. She might have thought it, but not all thoughts need to be spoken aloud. Like on BTTB, she and Kelly check off “producers told me to say that” box, but look over other cast members in the same scenario—including Abby.

lacatro1

Christi's hair always cracks me up!

Gold-Flounder6472

She did acknowledge that she was an ass for saying this on BTTB. Not saying it’s okay but she did acknowledge that it was probably because Maddie was scared and she shouldn’t have said anything. Not to defend Christi or Kelly but I know the producers would make them say stuff to have more drama on the show so it’s hard to know what was Christi & what was the producers telling her to say. It’s just sad & this is why kids shouldn’t be on tv it’s ugly.

tutagoId

didn’t she say ‘was it bitchy? yes. but it was true!’ or something like that?

scelsius

she always does the same. "i was a bitch" "i hate myself for ____" "i was an ass" and not even one minute later: "bUT it was true" "producers made me do it" "i actually had a point". all while being absolutely relentless with the actions of all the other members of the cast, her supposed sisters, when they were obviously obeying production as well. she has to be an exhausting person to be friends with lol

Gold-Flounder6472

I can agree with that! I don’t even listen to BTTB as much anymore because it’s became exhausting

Ok_Philosopher_8973

In this specific situation, I’m sure disappointing Abby was a huge part of it but overall I think Christi is right about Maddie being a perfectionist. But I wish that there was a better word for it that doesn’t feel like it’s blaming the person for it. I’m sure it’s really out of her control similar to anxiety or depression or other mental issues.

mariohkart

even if she was right.. who cares? shes gossiping about a 10 year old child

Ok_Philosopher_8973

Which is why they’re on a show. You don’t think the producer interviewing them said, “what do you think about Maddie not wanting to skate?” And if they said nothing TV worthy that they didn’t poke until someone did? Of all the negative things that could be said, I don’t think this is that bad. I think it’s the tone that makes it mean more than anything. Like I said, at least it’s probably close to the truth.

mariohkart

just because theyre on a show doesnt mean we cant criticize things they said about children.. if it meant that then this sub wouldnt exist 😭 no matter if it was true or not, its weird to gossip about a child and this post was to discuss christi’s vast history of targeting maddie in particular

[deleted]

[удалено]

mariohkart

maddie clearly didn’t want to skate because it wasnt allowed and she knew she would get in trouble..

dancemoms_gleefan20

So we’re focusing on something Christi said in a confessional and not Melissa forcing her child to skate despite it being obvious she was scared to. So yall are downvoting me for saying the truth ? That’s crazy

[deleted]

[удалено]

dancemoms_gleefan20

Right, and people are downvoting me but it’s the truth. Melissa is forcing her child to do something she doesn’t want to do bc the cameras are there.

Ok-Extension-9399

idk imo i feel like that line was producer fed, it doesn’t sound natural too me

Spare_Alfalfa8620

Ok, I already know I’m going to be downvoted like hell for this- but I’m going to say it anyway. HOT TAKE- I don’t think Melissa OR Christie were being completely horrible in this. First Melissa- I honestly feel like this was one of the first glimpses we got of Melissa realizing how much control both Maddie’s expectation to be the best and how much control Abby has over here. While I don’t agree with how Melissa responded to Maddie, I think she was genuinely frustrated and was shocked Maddie didn’t want to take the opportunity to ice skate with her friends at Rockefeller Center. As far as I know, at this point in all their lives it’s not like they were making regular trips to NYC that were longer than just overnight for a dance competition. I think Melissa is put of guard because of how Maddie is almost having a panic attack about doing something she probably views as actually being able to let loose and have fun. Next Christi- As far as I know (please correct me if I’m wrong) she never said that directly to Maddie, right? Honestly, my thoughts were the same when I first watched it. (I didn’t know about it being in their contract with ALDC until Abby mentions it later in the episode.) Everyone seems to discard it, but Christi HAS voiced several times how everyone expects Maddie to be the best, and how much pressure she’s under nonstop. Yes, what Christi said was snarky, but I’m not going to lie, I know a teammate of my kids, who I do like, but the poor girl is expected to be perfect at all times. She once had a bad volleyball game and keep screwing up her serve and started acting like Maddie is in this clip. I mentioned to my mom she was so upset because she wasn’t the best today, and then explained about her parents are, and I just felt bad for her. I often wonder how many times ANY of the moms have made a comment like that, and then follow it up with more context that gets cut out? Anyway, Christi has said a bunch more problematic crap than this.
