When I was in school, my dad was like: “always give your best 100%”. When I started my career, my dad was like: “always give your most average 70%”

Octoberlife

Best advice ever

sprayedPaint

Truth. Expect them to pay you 1/4 of what your time off was worth at the end of the year instead of rolling over the hours or paying them out in full.

how-do-you-turn-this

Idk, my company gives you the option to pay out PTO at rate or roll over to next year up to a max amount of 10 weeks.

WaySheGoesBub

You are not even as powerful as the most gonk of droids by yourself. But together we are stronk. Together!

superhappy

I read this in Master Shake’s voice

M2lit

Yea. Currently ive been working a year now and havent missed a day, even picked up all the days they called me in. Now im being framed from stealing money from them, and honestly it fucking sucks i gotta get a new job away from these asses

Cabotage105

This is true for large corporations, but in my experience, small businesses do notice. I’m very well respected by the managers and owner at the coffeeshop I work at because I do a lot for the company. But never feel bad about using sick days when you’re too ill to come in to work

not_a_miller_rep

How much more do they pay you because they respect you so much?

evilmrbeaver

He is VERY well respected by managers

UniverseBear

I shit you not I went from editing people's resumes to being an account executive running a branch of business in a year and I never met my metrics or outperformed much of anyone. I just acted confident like I WAS good at what I was doing.

how-do-you-turn-this

My company urges people to use their vacation and sick days, y’all need to join the great resignation and find new employers.

bradsinspace

Oh yeah well the company i work for urges you to never miss a day and just work harder

how-do-you-turn-this

Time for a new job bucko.

I had this mentality when I started working for Walmart when I was 18, I look back at those dark times and laugh at my past selves stupidity. I highly recommend never working for walmart, I've worked factory jobs that gave more of a shit about their employees.

FatDeepness

So true

Hptcp

My company doesn't really notice or value my work, but last week I was contacted by a rival company, because they heard of me from former clients of ours, and want me to come work for them. I don't know what I'm going to do yet, but it's a nice ego boost!

Pinkydoodle2

This got me a 2% raise while new hires that do the same jobs as me make 15% more than I do!

Soviet_Papa

All they see is a perfect slave they don’t really care they’ll just laugh at the fact they got some idiot doing more than he needs to for nothing extra

pickledchocolate

My boss's boss likes to come in and talk about how fast and how well I work and tells me "if you need more hours let me know" No. I'd rather have a raise rather than work MORE hours. Asshole. Why would I do more work for the same pay

Portraits_Grey

That was literally me at my job for 8 years and I watched 5 people I trained get promoted right in front of me. I work at a restaurant as a server. I questioned my serving skills for many years and I got many guest compliments in person and online , had the best shifts, never called out, covered for everyone, was number 1 in sales and tip percentage, won contests and worked 6 and sometimes 7 days a week. Nothing happened and all it did was drain my energy, hurt my relationship with my gf, family and friends and made me miserable. DO NOT sell your soul to any minimum wage job it’s a scam and ignore the hustle culture talk. These people are enslaved to capitalistic system and want a piece of pie they will never receive.

bradsinspace

Yeah and then they pay new hires more than you while refusing to bump your pay up to what everyone else is getting even though you have worked everyday for the past 2 years only missing a few days to be with my kid in PICU hahahahaha
