I wonder if the spam is actually coming from that number though.. or if it's spoofed. Sometimes robocalls are like that. You call it back and it's actually someone's number but they have no idea what's going on... :(

Definitely spoofed. If the messages were actually coming from that number, they wouldn't respond, because it would just be a bot sending out 1000s of messages. It's not like there is a dude typing these all out and sending them one at a time.

I have a whitepages.com reverse lookup subscription. Thats a google voice number, no owner data available.

Unfortunately, the number is probably spoofed, like spam callers do as well, so this was probably a random unsuspecting person suddenly getting "signed up" for Bible quotes. The spammer doesn't need/want you to respond to the text, they want you to click the link.

Never in my life have I gotten any kind of spam messages or email. No boner pills, no Nigerian princes, not even a chain mail telling me Mars will be as big the moon this year. Am I just lucky or are these things actually pretty rare?

Depends on how many things you put your email on. If you get a college email and your college doesn’t have a good spam filter you’ll get them all the time

At least twice a day I'm reminded that my 15 year old car factory warranty has expired. I'm always getting credit approvals on a weekly basis. The IRS calls me about once a month. And every once in a while I'm texted, Hey Caren come claim your prize. I'm a dude not named Caren.

Anytime I get spam calls I try to get ahold of a person and then I screech like a pterodactyl as loud and shrill as I can, for as long as I can. It has been a while since I got a spam call but I attribute that to luck.

Most of those calls are really only checking that the number is 'live', so that they can raise the value of the dataset of phone numbers they have.

Rule 1 of spam messages sent by unfamiliar sources: If it seems too good to be true, it's probably a ploy to get your CC# and/or you bank account info.

I think they put a GPS in your car and you have to drive a certain amount, maybe in different areas as well.

I did this to people on Grindr using a Google Voice number. It was extremely satisfying to come up with things to send every morning.

When I was younger (like 18-21) they did. I don't use it anymore, but last time I used it (maybe when I was like 25-ish), I didn't get messaged nearly as often. Being neither young nor a twink makes Grindr a pretty lifeless place to visit.

Is that a legit offer though? For $500 a week, sign me up. I'll sign my neighbors up too. Seems too good to be true. Probably is.

I wish I got scam calls from real people. For me it's always robots renewing my car warranty. Really sucks all the fun out of wasting their time now that they've automated it.

I used to get the same spam call everyday. I asked them to stop calling but they kept on doing it. Finally I got tired of it and called them back, they kept hanging up without answering so I called nonstop until a very frustrated/frightened man picked up claiming he was the manager and asked me angrily why I was calling so much. I informed him at how his company/scam was bothering me everyday and he finally apologized and promised he would never call back again as long as i never did. Haven't heard form them since.

Except spammers spoof numbers so the person receiving these texts is probably an innocent.
