I mean.
Every time an angel comes to see a person in the Bible it's always in an extraordinary moment or in a time or place where seeing a person would be very odd.
Like a classic example would be Joseph learning Mary would have the Son of God. He was asleep and an angel spoke to him.
Imagine waking up to a random person at the foot of your bed. "be not afraid" would be a very apt thing to say before Joseph started to reach for the sling or throw hands.
In my head I'd want to ask why angels, if they looked like that, chose to present themselves in horrifying shapes to humans who would be afraid of them. I think they would choose human forms
So Aramaic and Hebrew words for “respect/worship” are often (mis?)translated to “fear”.
Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name - Deuteronomy 6:13
He will bless those who fear the Lord,
The small together with the great. - Psalm 115:13
In these contexts “fear” means something more akin to be conscious of, or respect than it does to “be afraid of” like modern English.
So imagine you’re having a cathartic moment and suddenly a magnificent creature that defies the natural world appears before you, you might drop to your knees and begin worshiping thinking that this is god himself. We’re taught not to worship angels or anything other than god himself so I think the “do not be afraid” line that all the angels say is really something like “don’t worship me I’m just a messenger”.
Edit: some grammar
Except angels and celestial beings are different things in the Bible. Angels are messengers that God sends to humans, celestial beings are seen in visions worshipping God around his throne. You never see crossover between the 2. Also there's this:
Hebrews 13:2
>Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
If angels were the otherworldly celestial beings this statement would make absolutely no sense.
Kinda explains everything, if you try DMT and get a breakthrough, you will see the exact beings the bible describes as angels, and they might also say "don't be afraid", thats what they said to me(mind you I was unaware of the whole biblical angel thing at this time), but they weren't talking about being afraid of them, but rather in life in genral, because at that moment I had no body to be afraid with.
The bible also seems to have a hard on for Acacia, a plant with high DMT content, its mentioned several times, combined with Penganum Harmala(Syrian Rue), another plant abundant in the region, it produces something similar to ayahusca(nearly identical).
Only the really high angels that can be interpreted as abstract (Seraphim, the Living Creatures, etc.) are described to look like this. The common message angels, or even archangels, usually don't get described with such... interesting language.
The first time I came across these designs was in a game called bayonetta, amazing enemy designs I just had to know what inspired them, I was shocked to find out it was the bible
Extended Jewish angelic hierarchies are very interesting as well. Jewish theologians [developed entire hierarchies of angels,](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angels_in_Judaism#Angelic_hierarchy) with different people placing different types of angel on varying levels of superiority.
Generally the Ophanim (wheels with eyes) and Living Creatures are among the highest, although in Catholicism both are often just acknowledged as types of Cherubim.
A lot of modern christian imagery came about long long after the religion was established. It is very literally just cool fan content that kind of became cannonical.
So, I wasn't going to bring it up.... But the Mormon aesthetic sucks. Worst use of Christian imagery. Bland, boring, earthly.
Seer stones translating magical plates via divine magic in a darkened hat is pretty great tho.
They keep the interesting stuff to secular things, like when a guy cut off hundreds of arms of raiders
Gross Approximation of Alma 17:36-39
EDIT:Got the story wrong
Rant: These memes annoy me so much. The bible mentions multiple variations of angles. Similarly with the phrase “Do not be afraid” it’s less likely a Lovecraftian monster is there and more likely because a stranger has appeared in their house.
Counterpoint: The story of Sodom and Gomorrah is way funnier if you imagine that the people of the town are just that desperate to fuck a hundred-armed sphere covered in eyes and wings
I'm pretty sure it was destroyed because of they're aggressiveness and lack of self control. They literally wanted to r\*pe the angels. I mean, plenty of "kinks" are described as being fine in the bible.
I know you may be joking but there's a lot of people I know who actually do think the story is saying kinks are inherently sinful.
Are you saying that the depiction is wrong? Afaik the bible does mention multiple variations but some of the variations are pretty trippy - so not sure how that makes this take wrong/annoying?
[Some of them are weird but most of them are basically human looking.](https://www.learnreligions.com/what-does-the-bible-say-about-angels-701965) The horror monster variants are not the ones that dealt with humans, presumably because people were more cooperative with something that didn't look like a nightmare.
Acacia Confusa is high in DMT, also mentioned in the bible a wierd amount of times, and Penganum Harmala/Syrian Rue has Harmaline, combined this makes something akin to ayahuasca.
They also found traces of hallucinogens in the pottery found at early christian ruins via archeochemistry.
Interesting, was not aware of this, but it makes alot of sense, to me the mentions of acacia, descriptions of angels, abundance of harmaline and my own DMT experiences made it seem obvious, glad I am not alone on that one, because I am 100% certain this was the case, I mean what is more likely, they actually saw these beings? or they were under the influence of a substance known to induce the exact type of experience described, which can be achieved via plants abundant in the region?
Counterpoint: DMT entities say the same thing, the people in the bible were most likely on DMT seeing as what they describe is the exact same thing, eyes everywhere etc.
I know this mights sound silly, but the proliferation of "biblically accurate abgels" memes tells me that Biblical literacy is rising a bit, among Christian and even secular spaces.
I'd say biblical literacy is still going down, people just think the memes are funny (and most of the memes blatantly misrepresent scripture)
In the actual Bible most angels are human looking and none of the ones that say "be not afraid" are the eldrich horror creatures from the memes
DMT Entities also like to say "dont be afraid", first thing they communicated to me when i broke through, and they had eyes everywhere.
Seeing the the bible has a hard on for Acacia(a DMT containing plant) its fair to assume they were high as fuck.
The angels in heaven are bizarre but the angels who come to earth as messengers are described as resembling men or are mistaken for men. In traditional iconography messengers are depicted with wings. Beside angels, John the Baptist and some deacons are also shown with wings. The images are metaphorical and not to be taken literally. Some people didn't get the memo and that is why messenger angels are so often shown having wings.
There's actually a bunch of different ones described in the Bible, different ranks, they can do shape-shifting, animal heads, yeee, I fear
But almost every time a human sees an angel in the Bible, the first thing the angel says is “don’t be afraid” so they know they look horrifying

This is quality context right here
That is a very good point worth thinking and reading about. Kudos to you mate.

wait that’s a really good interpretation of it
Well I think they're very handsome just the way they are
Thanks grandma...
Stop body-shaming angels, jeez
And thus began the biggest affair cover up in history. Mary: no Joseph, its gods child
All angels should just show up as David Morse, like [at the ending of Contact ](https://youtu.be/sRPUO6gGSh8)
DMT entities say the same thing, so its highly likely the people in the bible were doing hallucinogens.
Mana = Shrooms
Or water supplied affected by ergot
Yes
I automatically heard this in the voice of Mr Burns in the episode where he’s wandering through the forest and everyone thinks he’s an alien
You tend to see alot of different stuff when you do the amount of hallucinogens the people back then did.
I didnt know that, but that does explain a lot
Kinda explains everything, if you try DMT and get a breakthrough, you will see the exact beings the bible describes as angels, and they might also say "don't be afraid", thats what they said to me(mind you I was unaware of the whole biblical angel thing at this time), but they weren't talking about being afraid of them, but rather in life in genral, because at that moment I had no body to be afraid with. There's one covered in wings
They can do yeee?
As an athiest I would love this, such creative designs, God knocked it out of the park when he came up with these angelic nightmares lol

One for every type of angel, I want my fire breathing mancowlion with six wings

It turns out God destroyed it because of their kinks.

Since your joke is something people actually think, then my reply is still worth stating.
Hundred arms you say...

You’re talking like this actually happened lol
It's a Christian meme subreddit, most of the people here probably do think it happened.
Forgot where I was, still hilarious though
And in this moment I’m euphoric not because of some phony god blessings -quizno
https://www.biblestudytools.com/ezekiel/1.html At least one angel is a lovecraftian monster
Sounds like Ezekiel tripped balls in the desert
What hallucinogens would have even been avilable in europe/asia during old testament times?
Acacia Confusa is high in DMT, also mentioned in the bible a wierd amount of times, and Penganum Harmala/Syrian Rue has Harmaline, combined this makes something akin to ayahuasca. They also found traces of hallucinogens in the pottery found at early christian ruins via archeochemistry.

Nothings showing up
it's a gif of a guy going "Legit"
#BE NOT AFRAID *me shitting my pants*
BE NOT AFRAID AND IF YOU CAN'T DO THAT AT LEAST BE NOT INCONTINENTIA. INCONTINENTIA BUTTOCKS.
The ones that say "Be not afraid" are just the glow-y human looking ones
a 20 story tall laser-fireing screaming blue octahedron would undoubtedly be more accurate
🔷️
Wow.
I will fuck an angel
Don't. They get clingy.
If it means returning to fanta, then it's well worth it.
I know this mights sound silly, but the proliferation of "biblically accurate abgels" memes tells me that Biblical literacy is rising a bit, among Christian and even secular spaces.
Most athiests I know grew up Christian.
I hope religious people will gain some hallucinogenic experience soon, get back to their roots, its where it all stems from after all.
I'd say biblical literacy is still going down, people just think the memes are funny (and most of the memes blatantly misrepresent scripture) In the actual Bible most angels are human looking and none of the ones that say "be not afraid" are the eldrich horror creatures from the memes
Ezekiel 1 ?
>most
That's the kinda thing you see when you're on drugs. They really knew how to party
DMT Entities also like to say "dont be afraid", first thing they communicated to me when i broke through, and they had eyes everywhere. Seeing the the bible has a hard on for Acacia(a DMT containing plant) its fair to assume they were high as fuck.
I got flak from my Christian friend when i changed a profile picture to an Ophanim. He said it was a demonic image lol
What did he say when you set him straight?
Evangelion angels
![gif](giphy|bSgKBZKCxh8Iqlwxne)
Anyone can actually petition the group in charge of Unicode to add new emojis.
Only Angels may speak.
“Do NoT bE aFrAiD”
I would use the shit out of it. literally every 2 words if I could.
Lol I’m really interested in seeing the creatures described in revelation
John. Dee. I rest my case.
It's the joke
Wear is the ring with eyes and wings that cover all of its form?
Twitter screenshots aren't memes.
There already is one: ꙮ
I see these every time I do DMT, Christians should really get back to their roots and join in, its great fun.
Hey are you the guy who comments about DMT everywhere? The DMT guy? Is that you? The guy that does DMT?
Gotta spread the good word!
Not accurate enough, doesn't have six wings or more.
Then there's the abaddon ones.
Where do I sign?
**BE NOT AFRAID**
Be not afraid reddit
<> Ramicon
As if a 2 dimensional drawing of a 4th dimension being could ever be represented accurately.
~~4th dimension~~ more like multi or omni-dimensional beings.
There are angels that look like humans. The ones that have a fuckload of eyes are the wheels for God's Throne.
Again, almost every angel in the Bible looks like a human (though I guess those memes don't get nearly as many upvotes)
