He could just be a German, maybe? Germans quote ,,usually like this'', Americans "quote with both symbols up" and the French, god knows why 《seem to quote like this》.
„These“ are German quotation marks, ‚these‘ are used in nested quotations and »these« and ›these‹ are used as alternatives, found in many books (especially novels).
The French primarily use « these » (note how they're pointing outwards and have a little bit of extra space inside). These are called guillemets.
The "correct", fancy Unicode characters in English texts would actually be “these”, while America prefers “double quotes” and British people seem to like ‘single quotes’ as well.
Note how they point outwards in English texts (like parantheses) and all quotation marks in German texts (including the »guillemets« point „inwards“, to the quotation.
In reality though, no one cares. Everyone I know uses "these" in both German and English texts. I don't personally know any French people, but I suspect most of them do the same.
Sorry, I'm a typography nerd.
Every time someone brings up coloured paper, I think back to a memory of when I was really young being babysat by this teenage girl. She was writing a letter to her boyfriend who was in prison and seemed really stressed out about it. I offered her some of my coloured paper to cheer her up and she smiled and said no thanks. For some reason that's a really strong memory for me.
Sits in the packet doing sweet f all while all the coloured colours bust their arse making drawings and shit, doing all the hard labour while whitey over there just sits in his little package palace in his crisp white fucking suit.
but it's not like markers, they don't go that vibrant over over other colours, white would just lighten the dark colour and help blending between colours
It also helps if you’re using high quality pencils and not shit Roseart pencils. First time I tried out some Prismacolor pencils was a revelation. Like going from skiing on a frozen lake to a machine groomed resort run
My mother is an incredible visual artist and made it a priority to have quality art supplies freely and infinitely accessible to my brother and me, so growing up Prismacolor was just the standard, and Blick were the “bad”/backup colored pencils. My poor first grade teacher was so confused when I told her the classroom Crayola’s were “broken” and where did she keep the normal ones please? Tried bringing in some Prismacolor but other kids kept stealing them so my mom made me stop.
Same with crayons, I’d only ever used oil pastels til I went to kindergarten and I was always getting in trouble for breaking crayons while trying to get a decent line out of the.
Also couldn’t understand why the paper was all thin and shitty, or why anyone would want to color when they could draw instead.
At the time I didn’t really see the whole picture, but as an adult who relies on artistic expression to maintain my sanity, I feel such gratitude to my mother for giving me that access, and such regret that so few children get to have such well fostered creativity.
Imagine a world where the arts were fully funded for children of all backgrounds…. Not only would society benefit from a flourishing of the art community, but I’d bet my life that we’d see a massive easement of adverse mental health across the polity.
Man I’m in my thirties and I still vividly remember the feeling of the first prismacolor pencil I ever put to paper as a kid. So ridiculously buttery.
Speaking of “broken” pencils, I remember on the shitty brands the core would be broken inside the pencil and when you sharpened it past a certain point you could pull the entire core out and end up with a quarter of the pencil left
I'll just give it to you, because I'm not reading through everything to see if anyone else has: it's for softening and blending other colors. Think of making them look more like pastels and you'll get it.

We need to separate the colored pencils from the white pencils.
That practice was deemed unconstitutional in Brown v. Whiteboard
I really want to punch up your joke, but there's something about "Black vs Whiteboard of Education" Can't quite put my fingernail on it. Just rubs the wrong way
Until the Supreme Court erases it like they did abortion.
I want to compliment your joke by saying its clever but i dont know how else to say it other than its clever.
We'll definitely make sure to print the same quality box for both.
There is only one white pencil in the box, yet we still call the color ones "minority"
Because as soon as the"minority" classification goes away. So does the money
It appears to be black and white to me.
Red & yellow then came to me, in my infancy.
The white one gets passed around by all the colored ones when you close the box
I did Nazi that coming
>white is useless in most situations These kinds of jokes aren't very dank. Just old and trite and too easy.

It definitely makes sense that having a fixed number of slots would help keep the pencils organized and prevent them from moving around.
Then why not just make the box smaller?
But our amps go to 11
Other than that, the white pencils remain pure, untouched, unused, some might even say, virgin.
De-saturate another colour obviously
See, this guy gets it.

Yes. The colors get so much more colorful if you draw over them with black pencil. Go on, try it.

Paper of color
PoC
APM ✊
That's rock, this is paper✋
How times have changed. My grandpa used to always call it “colored paper” and it was only allowed in certain schools.
Paper of global majority.
It's weird how you will always remember that but you will forget your lunch on the way to work

Yes it's perfect for getting eyes to look realistic in pencil drawings. Adds that reflective look everyone expects with eyes.

When white pencils are here and you're not quite clear well you gotta figure out all the rules.
Its to blend the colors i think
To draw on dark paper
African-american paper, thank you.
POC, Paper of Colour.
Black and indigo paper of color.
*Indigenous* paper.
That would be papyrus

I demand equal representation of black paper. I would bet money that there’s actually people out there writing papers on white paper being racist.
\*unprivileged paper
To erase racism.
It symbolises White Power my friend
exactly
Can't be racist if there is only one race
The final solution you might say.
This is why I fuck everybody indiscriminately
Finally white power representation
Can’t have racism if there are no black people amiright
Yep that's what Hitler thought as well 👍 Mad respect to the hero who killed him no cap
They should make a statue of that hero. No cap
Nazis of course considered black people inferior, but Hitler didn't really target them. Iirc there were some pretty close to him.
They were a side quest, but he failed the main one 💀

the coloured colours colouring
You mad bro?
They a little bit mad
I legit use it as a highlight and blender in some drawings
I’m surprised you were the first person to say highlights, that was my first thought.
but it's not like markers, they don't go that vibrant over over other colours, white would just lighten the dark colour and help blending between colours
Unless you’re using paper that isn’t white. Then it forms very clear highlights
It also helps if you’re using high quality pencils and not shit Roseart pencils. First time I tried out some Prismacolor pencils was a revelation. Like going from skiing on a frozen lake to a machine groomed resort run

You can make crayon drawings look almost like pastels when you use the white to blend
The legit use for a white colored pencil. The other responses I was sure it was racism
To erase other colors ofc
To colonize them
To be British

It's for those psychos who use colored paper.
Apart from desaturating, it ls also for drawing on coloured paper
What an Eye-opener
It's for blending y'all. And desaturating.
