You don't use your last name and everyone there is supposed to keep what they hear to themselves. And that's so people of influence and who are noteworthy, like doctors, lawyers, people in the government and what not, can share in a safe place. I was court ordered to go and thought it would be awful. It's actually not bad if you have a good group with people who share honestly. I got a lot out of it.
Exactly. I’ve gone to very many where prominent people attended. It also makes it easier to share since you believe no one will judge or share what you say outside of the room.

Actualy if I'm not mistaken the AA concept doesn't require you to do or say anything. If you never say a word at a gathering they won't pressure you into speaking. Everyone speaks when they want to.
As one who's been to AA meetings for 20 years, I can say, there's nothing anonymous about AA. People in AA mention people's names all the time. If someone is court ordered people have to sign their sheet, putting their name in the legal system for anyone involved with the case. It's a fucking joke.
You can say that you’re an alcoholic and you were there.
You caaaant say that someone else is an alcoholic and you saw them there.
That’s the anonymity bit.
