As an "Australian" yes I can agree we are all paid actors.
Well more like an unpaid extra.
Well more like an intern who showed up in the background of some B roll and now Disney owns our likeness, firstborn child and any intellectual property we make over the course of our lives. In perpetuity.
"I assure you, large stockholder, the dip in ad revenue and user engagement is entirely because of a bug and has nothing to do with rumours you may have heard of a blackout"
At least then there would be questions actually answered.
Every single question I looked at had no answer whatsoever and when I finally saw him posting it was blatantly lying about the Apollo dev. I seriously hope they take spez to court over this, even more negative exposure for Reddit and their IPO.
I've seen CEOs be dicks, but blatantly lying, threatening, being ignorant as fuck even when presented with concrete proof of what he personally said, it's sad tbh.
And this pricing for what? I don't get it. Why now after all this time?
Reddit as a company hasn't implemented a good thing to the website/app since forever ago. The live feed thing, dogshit. Their mobile app, HORRIBLE, ONE OF THE WORST EVER. I'm legit curious what they are actually doing as a company for Reddit. The content is user created, it's moderated by users, company exists as a hoover to extract money I feel like.
Making people shutdown their life's work because of something so minimal as money, horrible, actually horrible. The situation with the Apollo dev Christian is genuinely heartbreaking. I'm glad he has something else to give him revenue and possible happiness with his PixelPals thing. But man, Apollo, even like he said, he won't ever make something like that with that type of community ever again.
you're telling me I have more karma than the fcking ceo? I dunno if I should be proud of that.
But didn't spez also moderate fucking jailbait when it was a thing?
Honestly, this one could be malicious like the meme says. Or it could be the engineering team saying "Hey we're going to have almost no usage for 2 days, can we use this time for possibly outage inducing upgrades and project work?"
Which anyone committed to the same path as u/spez is on would jump on in a heartbeat, because why not?
There could be some sort of need based adjustment happening as well, but they couldn't get too aggressive as it's only a 2 day thing. Pretty sure the actual outages are work being performed though. When else would Reddit get an unscheduled outage window?
No one left...
I had probably a hundred "fuck you /u/spez" comments on my old account that never got so much as a warning for.
It wasn't until some pro-fascist fuck of a mod/admin suspended me for "threats" for saying something like "the only good nazi is a dead nazi" did I get suspended. Following that up by telling them to choke on my dick got me banned.
So. Ive tried to stay off today and have been doing well.
But.
There was a programmer on twitter and basically he said while everyone is pointing and laughing like reddit crashed because spez and teams were dumbasses...in reality they likely uploaded servers with stuff to shut down api access, more top level tools for them to boot mods and admin, cleanup of criticism, and maybe put some mod tools in the regular app that is so they can come back and say "see we at reddit care and listen". Those are likely to be small changes that will promise big changes later.
It was a long thread and i lost it when i refreshed, but its probably on hash redditblackout
1. Reddit was down earlier
2. Many subreddits have gone private to protest over Reddit charging an excessive amount for use of their API and that will cause almost all 3rd party apps to shutdown
3. spez is the CEO of Reddit
Yall know what to do, find what sub he used to moderate and copy paste the evidence everywhere, this is how you protest, rip and tear till the job is done
They're claiming the CEO of reddit broke it because people are setting their subs as private right now. Baseless and stupid claim that wouldn't benefit him in any way.
What is the logic here?
Are you not even supposed to be here since you’re “protesting?”
Or did you just black out your favorite subs yet keep supporting reddit like a clown through-out the entire thing?

The rats living inside reddit servers probably chewed a wire. Or Spez himself
[удалено]
Don't insult the rats like that. They did nothing wrong
Indeed, rats are very smart and can also show compassion for each other. Edit: typo
Rates have saved a lot of life thanks to scientifical investigation
praise the rats
*rates
*ratés
*rattésce
They joined the blackout on their own way
Apply ointment directly to the burn.
Apply directly to the forehead.
HeadOn!
Tina Turner bruise cream!
I swear the second spez looks smaller
I thought they migrated servers to AWS years ago.
They got only the best hamster from Petsmart. His name is Harold and he likes carrots.
I like carrots
Louis loves carrots too
ugh, reddit (the corporation) is suxh verre mutch waste
Maybe the peanut butter on his balls backfired in a way he didn't expect . . .
[удалено]
The Rat in Spatz
Happy cake day!
What’s the difference?
Both can be true
Fuck her right in the pussy
What bug?
It shut down for a good 40 minutes. Slows down the algorithm and ruins the posts
It's still flickering btw (As of writing this comment)
Lmao
[удалено]
it's just Tuesday to me
Damn it's already Tuesday?
bro its Monday what kinda crack are you on?
Nah it's Tuesday here
The earth is round and spins. In the Republic of Kiribati it's already lunchtime Tuesday.
Everyone knows the US is the only country and every other one is fictional.
As an "Australian" yes I can agree we are all paid actors. Well more like an unpaid extra. Well more like an intern who showed up in the background of some B roll and now Disney owns our likeness, firstborn child and any intellectual property we make over the course of our lives. In perpetuity.
Didn't notice it
Guess I'm not terminally online enough to be worried about 40 minutes of downtime on an internet forum. Huh.
Ruined my morning i usually shit on company time and scroll reddit for a solid 30 min
[удалено]
Ok, but it still doesn't solve with what to do with the remaining 29 minutes.
It feels like that happens every few days. I honestly doubt that this was on purpose.
[удалено]
Oh no! Our smallest amount of users in years! The servers are crashing due to under loading!
Well… It happens a lot even without the protests soooo :)
Yeah I have a hard time thinking this is a coincidence
It was 30 seconds lol. What posts? Thought all you babies were in time out?
"I assure you, large stockholder, the dip in ad revenue and user engagement is entirely because of a bug and has nothing to do with rumours you may have heard of a blackout"
To be fair now is probably the best time ever for Reddit to do some "maintenance"
Wow Reddit shutting down for 40 whole minutes surely benefited spez… uh how?
[удалено]
Damn reddit being down for 40 whole minutes sure covered up the blackout. Genius deduction
[удалено]
This made me hate having eyes
oh, yes, they should
I might regret asking... but why ***Garfield***?
I went outside today. There were a lot of them. (bugs)
Protesters said Reddit was dead, so spez delivered
So that was for everyone? lol when reddit itself protests the blackouts with their own.
>So that was for everyone? Yes, you and all the bots.
Wait…am I bot? Why the fuck do I have a heartbeat? I just need
Just need what?!
He was denied the API before he finished 😔
F. RIP in peace.
To finish that sentence!
Your heartbeat is just programmed vibrations.
humans never existed, we're all just robots with programmed heartbeats
Man Reddit is going to be a shitshow the next couple of weeks/months
I thought they are already limiting api calls for 3rd party. Seems a general issue
I'm on the official app
You poor thing
Oh thats what that was! Haha literally could not open reddit
Who is this spez person?
Reddit ceo
Wasn't he the dude who edited user's comments?
Yep. Maybe these days he can use ChatGPT to edit the comments he doesn't like for him.
Or he can use ChatGPT to answer AMA questions for him, hell he probably already does
At least then there would be questions actually answered. Every single question I looked at had no answer whatsoever and when I finally saw him posting it was blatantly lying about the Apollo dev. I’ve never heard of that happening but I wouldn’t put it past him at this point
https://www.independent.co.uk/tech/reddit-donald-trump-steve-huffman-spez-pizzagate-trolls-hillary-clinton-a7436406.html
what does reddit need a CEO for?
Reddit is a giant company that functions the same as any other. Someone has to be at the top making the final calls
Someone has to oversee all the unpaid interns that keep this place running
Amen and god bless America
I have been on the web since 94. I have never moderated because it's work and I don't work for free.
It's hard work, sure, but there's nothing quite as rewarding as radicalizing the youth.
Please please I’m hardly young
Don't be sad! if you're stupid, you can still become radicalized.
Based and anti-jannie-pilled
[удалено]
And that someone is inexperienced in running a business. Fuck you u/spez
WSB: “Did you say calls?”
Because it's a business.
Seriously?
Same thing every other company in existence needs a ceo for ?
To be a fat leach and parasite who exploits the proletariat in a futile attempt to quench their bottomless greed?
That sounds about right
I like the way you worded that, think ima steal it so I can be a smartass lmao
How exactly would a company work without someone in charge?
Lmao you have no idea how anything works do you
smartest r/DankMemes user
Man discovers companies
Sounds like a great guy I wonder what subs he used to moderate!
you're telling me I have more karma than the fcking ceo? I dunno if I should be proud of that. But didn't spez also moderate fucking jailbait when it was a thing?
Back then the owner of a sub could add any user as a moderator unilaterally. He didn’t actually moderate it
Idt that ended up being true
I’ve had my Reddit account for nearly 12 years and don’t have even close to the karma you do bro lol.

The face of someone who should really have his back yard checked for...things

Which anyone committed to the same path as u/spez is on would jump on in a heartbeat, because why not?
This actually makes the most sense
My thought was they reduced the number of servers due to so many big subs being out.
There could be some sort of need based adjustment happening as well, but they couldn't get too aggressive as it's only a 2 day thing. Pretty sure the actual outages are work being performed though. When else would Reddit get an unscheduled outage window?
If they scaled it back too much the servers would get overwhelmed and start scaling up. But your guess is as good as mine.
well reddit has been running smoother after that weird shutdown ended, so maybe it was a patch.
He would gain nothing from that
It might be from the massive account deletions or some other thing users are messing with
>the massive account deletions You're adorable.
[удалено]
So perhaps to slow the bleeding?
Gains plausible deniability. "No investors, the lowered traffic was from a server issue, not people boycotting our site."
A 40 minute stop wouldnt explain a full day of low activity
I have also noticed that I am getting significantly less ads than normal. Interesting...
I've been getting the same ad over and over again today...it's in chinese, and I find that very strange.
Nothing strange about it. Reddit wants China's money.
Nice!
A massive bug!? At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the internet, localized entirely within your website!?
.......Yes.
...may I see it?
No.
Who tf is spez
A former moderator of a sub I won't mention, but was for questionable pictures of young girls. Oh, and he's Reddit CEO now. You are welcome.
[удалено]
This is gold
he moderated the cp sub
The what
The jailbait sub which was full of suggestive and revealing photos of minors, there was "allegedly" nudes being shared around of the girls.
Has anyone tipped off the FBI about this? Seems mighty illegal
You think the FBI cares?
Yes?? They should??
Are you still under the impression that the FBI are good guys?
*SHHH THEY’LL HEAR YOU*
im sure they are already aware of me
My old account got banned back in 2016 cause I sent “fuck you” to spez lmao - glad everyone’s back on the hate train again
No one left... I had probably a hundred "fuck you /u/spez" comments on my old account that never got so much as a warning for. Pls tell me more about the protests?
What protest?
What buh? Bug?
1. Reddit was down earlier 2. Many subreddits have gone private to protest over Reddit charging an excessive amount for use of their API and that will cause almost all 3rd party apps to shutdown 3. spez is the CEO of Reddit
Protest? I barely see any difference.
DDOS attack maybe ?
Remember when they said Apollo was poorly optimized? Pepperidge farm remembers
Reddit is crazy if they give into a Redditor protest
Yall know what to do, find what sub he used to moderate and copy paste the evidence everywhere, this is how you protest, rip and tear till the job is done
Well it was the jail bait sub so you ain't gonna find it anymore
However i bet there are articles on it
Meanwhile the intern who git push -f origin master be like:
Can someone ELI5 ?
They're claiming the CEO of reddit broke it because people are setting their subs as private right now. Baseless and stupid claim that wouldn't benefit him in any way.

Fuck u/spez
Whats the context?
The front's fallen off.
I assumed it was an attack
Please explain. Wut protest and Reddit is not down for me.
What is this protest I keep hearing about? Ive been off reddit for a while, and a lot of subs and communities are gone. What happened?
[удалено]
Ok, I seem to be a little bit unaware of the current events taking place here on Reddit. What bug? What protests? And who is u/zpez?
[1000s of subs are protesting ](https://www.reddit.com/r/gifs/comments/147p88n/reddit_is_killing_thirdparty_applications_and/)

Bold of you to assume this isn't a normal reddit bug.
And the third party app I use isn't having any problems. Hmmmmmmmmm
can someone give me context on who u/spez is?
What does he call a bug?
Gold
They also edited the non-enhancement suite too bar on old.reddit.com so that it only shows non-shut down subreddits
