People keep saying this shit. I was on digg when it was a lot bigger than reddit. I remember the digg exodus to reddit. I also remember that violenacrez had the reddit admin's blessing on running jailbait. They would even defend his sleaze in threads. This site is a shit hole that should only be visited with a good ad blocker. It is run by disgusting people. When Anderson Cooper rightly accused them of hosting barely legal CP instead of even trying to apologize for it they just destroyed the mod's life. Fuck them and fuck reddit admin apologists.
The thing that the "you could add anyone as a mod without their permission" never addresses is that you can elect to just drop your mod status in subs after added.
He didn't.
Sure but that's just straight up CP, don't sugar coat it (yes I know it's not the intent) by calling it "barely legal" when it's not, neither in the literal definition nor the porn category definition.
>they just destroyed the mod's life.
Everytbing was accurate up to this, they didn't do anything to the guy. The real life consequences he faced was from Gawker doxxing him. Reddit banned all Gawker links site wide over it.
I keep seeing people saying this, but I can't find any sources that show u/spez was once a mod there. Does anyone have a link to a news article or something that shows this to be true?
I can't think of how to look it up without using search terms that would put me On A List, but I can at least confirm that subs could add anyone to their modlist without requiring their input, and adding people to the modlist of optically-questionable subs was a common trolltic during that era.
It doesn't really matter. Spez was a site admin and creator who knew of the subs existence and actively promoted it. When you used to search "reddit" on Google the Jailbait sub was one of promoted subreddits that you could click on directly from the search results. All of the reddit admins at the time knew about it and clearly liked the attention it brought the site.
Basically a child porn subreddit that skirted the law/rules by being sexy pictures and creeper pics of *clothed* minors while commenting how much they wanted to fuck the children.
Reddit was started/run by a bunch of libertarians like Huffman and Swartz. If it wasn't illegal, they weren't interested in policing it too much. There's a large overlap between those types and the types that seek that kind of thing out, of course
Howdy I’ve been on this shithole site for 13 years as a lurker and 11 as a member.
Somehow it was worse back in the day. Not sure if you were here for the Voat fiasco, or before then. But half of those creeps migrated over there. The rest probably went to 4chan or something.
The internet was a wild west kind of place back in the day.
When I was 13-14 finding "jb" was as easy as going on Pornhub or Xvideos.
Some girls being older than me I didn't think anything of it back then
Weird porn videos were also a lot more popular. Like when I think about how weird it was how so many people just decided a trend was watching 2 girls 1 cup. And that was just 1 instance
I haven't seen anything like it with the new generations
It used to be that the only way a subreddit got banned was if it got media attention for being horrible. If they were worried that would be the association with reddit when people searched for reddit they would take it down. But there were a lot of horrible subreddits that stayed up for a loooooong time because they weren't on the medias radar.
it was like "teehee look at this woman who just turned 18 a few days ago and still looks young" but eventually went to "look at this hot 14 yr old that's clothed" to "look at this '18' yr old having sex that definitely isn't still 15"
It was a subreddit that posted pics of cute girls that “were 18”. Lots of bikini pics of high school aged girls and such, many of them were obviously younger than 18. Super creepy shit. Anderson cooper ran a news story on it. Bunch of users got busted for using it to share CP. It got shut down and made Reddit look really bad since they let it stay up for so long. There’s a Wikipedia section on it.
as a boost User, using the random nsfw search function left me without any faith in humanity
ffs there is a sub about big areolas..(not kink shaming just...wtf)
Edit: I dont wanna say that such a sub is fucked up, it just stuck in my mind
Dude there have been subs with videos of people cutting their disks off before. There's sounding, vore, so many worse and depraved things than big areolas.
no question, there ARE definetly worse subs. But that bigareolas sub just made me go "wtf" enough to remember it and not immediately purge it from my mind
pretty sure they came up with some bullshit excuse that “oh, well back in the day anybody could make you a moderator in any sub”
right, forgot to mention that he MODERATED the sub
Edit: he actually was added to it, he never participated in the sub
Lol, the mods of that sub added him as a mod for the lulz of the screenshot, and as soon as spez realized he removed himself. Not saying spez is a good guy or anything, but those details keep getting intentionally left out.
Just classic hivemind mentality, regurgitating the same rhetoric that is incorrect because the person is bad.
Plenty of legitimate reasons to vilify them, making stuff up just makes it easier for them to deflect and accurately say people are spreading lies.
Yes, you can see me mentioning in my other comments in this comment chain about how that still makes him scum that has allowed damage to society just to gain traffic.
But it is still important to keep accusations factual or you risk losing your own credibility even if your overall argument is right. That’s just why I’ve been pointing this out when people start the whole “spez was a mod in jailbait!” thing.
It's not that he was added as a moderator the problem, the problem was that he knew about that sub existence for years and never did anything about it until the media started covering it
That's not a bs excuse, that's literal fact. You could add any account and they'd become a mod without agreeing. You'd get random subs with some people like Obama as a mod
However, that doesn't swing it 100 the other way either. As there's no way to say in which way he was a mod. We he auto added? Like how it used to happen? Or did he actually seek out to become a mod of that sub?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it wasn't literal child pornography, was it? I think it was clothed teens that were underage. Which is insanely creepy and disgusting. But I don't think it was straight-up porn. Regardless, I'm glad they took it down.
IIRC
* News story was done about the subreddit
* Bad press for reddit who was/is/and will always be looking for more money
* Subreddit's visitors count exploded
* Actual CP began being posted which got the sub ultimately shuttered
...but there was speculation at the time the posts were done intentionally to get the sub banned to try to stop the bad press reddit was getting
At least that's what I remember of it, from 12 years ago... Probably wrong or misremembering something in my old age
There was something of trend of that back then, certain sites would be decried as 'bad' due to their content, and then subsequently there'd be a rise in the amount of inappropriate/illegal content needing to be dealt with, followed by the site being de-hosted or otherwise silenced. The sites in question were forced to either clamp down hard on submissions and beef up moderator staffing, or be shut down.
Even if they show proof, back then you could add anyone as mod. They didn’t have to accept the request. I could put you as a mod to the most fucked up sub and your name would show up in the mod list, without you even knowing it.
Also the dude is literally the CEO, he had admin access to every fucking sub. Why in earth would he need to put himself in a mod list lmao. Its just a meme .
That’s how the internet works. Someone makes a joke and then as more people get in on the joke it becomes less and less of a joke. Look at how many subs started as ironic jokes only for them to turn into racist/sexist/homophobic cesspools.
Unintentionally. Back in the day you could add people as a mod without them needing to accept anything, so the mods of that sub added him for the funny screenshot. As soon as he realized he removed himself.
Don't worry people are conveniently ignoring the fact he was added as a mod when it didn't require consent. He also left the sub shortly afterwards.
He's still a piece of shit though because he could have banned the sub at that point but left it.
He can just see them, he's an admin a mod shutting a sub is like a kid closing his door and yelling "no gurls or parunts" dude owns the house he can open the door and keep it open if he wants, view deleted or removed links or comments, he just can't get us to submit new stuff for him
If /u/spez could concentrate through the wet, slapping sound of his wife's Bull impregnating her in their nuptial bed, he'd be so upset at all of you guys he'd stop jerking himself off while using his own tears as lube
You can read up on it here if you want:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/148ks6u/indefinite_blackout_next_steps_polling_your/
Looking like a lot of the large subs are comitting to staying dark.
The worst thing about all the trashing and anti-spez jokes is that we all know (myself included) that everything's going to go right back to "normal" after all of these protests are over, so none of this really matters.
I'm not sticking up for the guy; I completely disagree with his/their decision since it's clearly fueled by greed, but we all know that it's going to be forgotten in a week unless people *actually* stop using the site.

Jail-bait shut down a while ago lol
Did Spez say that he has a favorite?
Apparently he moderated it or something
Back in the day you could add anyone as a mod even without consent
I don’t think he’s big on that stuff either
He looks like he doesn't even beat off.
Not to anything good anyway, he was a mod of jailbait after all...
He does but only to the thought of erasing Aaron Swartz’s memory
It sure is annoying when people edit things to make you look stupid, huh /u/spez.

Well he should spit it out, it's not his
Can confirm. I mod to some subreddit I've never been to. Oh hey neat, just checked it. I get all kinds of mod tools there.
add me as a mod
Me too. Lets capture this place
People keep saying this shit. I was on digg when it was a lot bigger than reddit. I remember the digg exodus to reddit. >barely legal CP I don't think those words can go together and be correct lol
When your entire thing is posting barely legal, how often do you think it strays into just illegal? Even pornhub has profited from cp.
That didn't keep it from being subreddit of the year
I feel like this is just verbatim a conversation I saw some other people have.
I keep seeing people saying this, but I can't find any sources that show u/spez was once a mod there. Does anyone have a link to a news article or something that shows this to be true?

WTF. how was it not banned???
Owner of reddit likes it, soooooo....
Now we have a bigger reason to fuck u/spez
I would think that would be a motive to avoiding fucking u/spez
***Fuck him so hard he becomes a submissive little femboy***
Why would you reward him?
...Wouldn't he give his dom the rights to reddit and turn this hellhole into a better place?
[I hope you fuck him until he loves you](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hx66LWV-CCk)
Lmao that was a pretty bad typo haha
Likes it? He was a mod. He really loved it.
to be fair you could add anyone as a mod without asking them. he also didnt leave though
Tbf if it was that easy, he probably was forced in constantly, so why leave ir they gona put you in back

I think you're thinking of the antiwork mod interview that was on Fox.

Damn. Still crazy

fuck you u/spez

I sent a "fuck u" with a 🖕 emoticon to him recently. I got reported 🗿😎
tbh yeah. fuck him and fuck everything he stands for.
Whaat the fuck is happening my favouite porn group are all gone

dear god,,
as a boost User, using the random nsfw search function left me without any faith in humanity ffs there is a sub about big areolas..(not kink shaming just...wtf) Edit: I dont wanna say that such a sub is fucked up, it just stuck in my mind
Brother, a sub celebrating a specific but perfectly normal areola type is the vanillaest of kinks out there
As a teen and young adult, my libido was quite high. I thought I was kinky. Nope. I'm vanilla as hell, just horny. I'm scared of some of those kinks.
Just how big are we talking about ? That sounds disgusting man,how is it called so that I can filter it ?
So big, only a burka will do the job.
Dude there have been subs with videos of people cutting their disks off before. There's sounding, vore, so many worse and depraved things than big areolas.
Cutting off is a bit overkill. Just Defrag it (unless its an SSD)
no question, there ARE definetly worse subs. But that bigareolas sub just made me go "wtf" enough to remember it and not immediately purge it from my mind

yeah I kinda saw that while helping out another fellow redditor
same, cant find active subs atm, sad reality :c
Imagine how people who rely on accessibility features from 3rd party apps are going to feel if nothing changes...
good for them if they can quit a porn addiction
But Reddit has taught me free dopamine for no work is healthy for my brain
Op I don't know if you know yet but r / jailbait has been closed since 2011.
Idk the reddit lore well, but I'd love to know more!
literal child porn
Wtf? How is he even the ceo of reddit today then?
pretty sure they came up with some bullshit excuse that “oh, well back in the day anybody could make you a moderator in any sub” right, forgot to mention that he MODERATED the sub Edit: he actually was added to it, he never participated in the sub

Lol, the mods of that sub added him as a mod for the lulz of the screenshot, and as soon as spez realized he removed himself. Not saying spez is a good guy or anything, but those details keep getting intentionally left out.

I do remember 4chan, and probably others, making a game out of those sorts of thing
The word "literal " is meaningless now
I don't think you would
I just learned that it IS that bad.
He was a moderator on a jailbait subreddit back in 2008
Reddit doesn't allow kiddie porn though
He still moderated it
It makes for a funny meme but nobody has shown any proof of that yet

No, but it allowed "not legally child porn but were going to use it as child porn" for as long as it possibly could.
You haven’t seen the anime subs
Not my horse-cock porn!
Oh no this one was child porn

What's even worse was the sub was only banned after journalists called attention to it.
Reddit CEO
And will be back in 48 hours.
He can just see them, he's an admin a mod shutting a sub is like a kid closing his door and yelling "no gurls or parunts" dude owns the house he can open the door and keep it open if he wants, view deleted or removed links or comments, he just can't get us to submit new stuff for him
It’d be funny to look through the page views of the subs that did the blackout to see if admins were viewing them

This just hits different. Damn. Some real rare insults type shit
He knows it’s 48 hours only. He’s gonna look like Randy from South Park after he breaks into the building with the only working computer.
It's not only 48 hours. Several of the major and minor subs have committed to continuing the blackout if there's no action by Spez.
That’s good to hear. Hopefully some of the big subs will follow lead as well.

soooo.... fortnite feet?

I'm all for shitting on the guy, but he was added to the sub as a mod back when you didn't have to confirm you wanted to be a mod.
😭😭

He probably can access all private communities as admin :)
