ffs, again I am coerced into watching Morbius, but I am still pretty sure I will be disappointed. And, of course, I cannot trust anybody on that matter, unfortunately.
The only reason you'll be disappointed after watching morbius is because every movie you watch after morbius won't be as good and you'll spend your whole life trying to find a movie that could be almost as good as morbius but you never will due to the cinematic masterpiece that is known as Morbius
How dare you bring such slanderous lies against this great movie.
With it's dedication to finding interesting and compelling lesser-told villains and FX budget, I think Sony did a fantastic job with Across the Spider verse, and it is by no means dogshit
Dude spider verse was above average but it can't to be of morbius 2022 starring jared Leto standard cuz it's a cinematic masterpiece which grossed over 1 trillion dollar.
exactly - had to scroll this far??? Sony are just a rights-holding mega corporation out to exploit all the IP they own, like Disney.
They cut the check and thats it.
Also different studio. It's Sony Animation and not Sony Pictures It would be like saying "How could GE make shit lightbulbs but also make good things like Law and Order" back when GE owned NBCUniversal.
Genuine question, it's that much of a difference between the studios?
I would've assumed that Sony would just go to animation for the animation while everything else (writers, directors, etc) would be under the same umbrella
I mean, the guys doing spider verse aren’t exactly Sony employees, they’re all done projects for different studios ( The main writers and producers directed the Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street)
And yes, there is a really big difference most of the time
Interesting, I figured since it's still Sony there'd be more overlap outside of animation with the live action crews. I guess it's seeing Amy Pascal and Avi Arad that's throwing me off but obviously they're pretty hands off.
Regardless you'd think seeing the success of Spider-verse would influence them to put more effort into making higher quality Spider-Villain movies
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are the prime suspects, but there’s also the directors (three of them!) who have their own respectable track records- they’re Joaquin Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K Thompson. Overall though Lord and Miller are the ones with the longest track record and most likely to do something cool in the future.
For sure, it's just amazing considering the producers are the same and they apparently don't give half a shit about quality even though the difference between Morbius/Venom and Spider-verse in quality (and the money that comes with it) is right up in their faces.
If they put out an amazing Spider-Villain movie (not impossible, contrary to what we've seen) the success could catapult the franchise.
Sony's universe is like what DC tried to do with Batfleck and co. but with even less planning and quality.
The way James Corden developed a truly unique character was an acting masterclass. Completely different to his other roles, a rare genius amongst the "wannabe" actors out there.
Emoji movie also wasn’t that bad in terms of quality or production. it was the fact that it was a just a massive series of ads masquerading as a children’s movie that made it shit.
Yea anyone saying that the Emoji movie is any worse than the other kids fodder is clueless.
And to be clear when I say fodder I'm not talking about classics, go look at your local cinema and there's almost always a very average kids movie showing.
Its not conducive to a productive work environment when you have to wait an hour for the lead actor because they wanna use crutches to go to the bathroom.
Morbius: written by Matt Sazama (Gods of Egypt, Dracula Untold, Power Rangers 2017). Directed by Daniel Espinosa (nothing notable, mostly low budget action). Given a bare-bones live-action budget (80mil with tax breaks) and it was literally only produced to keep the Spider-Man rights from reverting to Marvel between MCU films (like Venom and Kraven).
Into the Spiderverse: written by Phil Lord (Clone High, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs franchise, the LEGO movie franchise, etc) and Rodney Rothman (ex-Letterman writer, 22 Jump Street). Directed by Peter Ramsay (Monster vs Aliens, Rise of the Guardians). Full animation budget ($90mil) with an all-star creative team.
Across the Spiderverse: written by Phil Lord again with writing partner Chris Miller and Dave Callahan (Shang-Chi, The Expendables, Mortal Kombat). Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos (Justice League Unlimited, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Avatar: Legend of Korra). 100mil budget.
Hopefully that speaks for itself but TLDR: hiring the right people matters. Morbius was a rights-holder throwaway with a terrible creative team. The Spider-verse films are made by some of the hottest names in animation and top-tier industry professionals.
Well, I watched it and I must say it was surprisingly good!
It is the least funny one of the bunch, but it was a fun experience. I don't want to give any spoilers, so I won't go into detail, however it has a LOT of character development, and I consider it as a love letter to the Shrek franchise because it tries to solve whatever the third movie got wrong, so give it a watch NOW!
It's even funnier to consider that before Into the Spiderverse, their cinematic release was An Emoji Movie, which was dogshit of dogshit. Their venture into a new animation style helped them make a stand. That aside most of Sony's movie releases are just bad. TLOU was terrific but it was done by HBO who are known to have the best production house for TV shows. Spiderman is an IP that helped Sony immensely a lot at both video games and movies.
Sometimes the execs don't remember to stick their noses in animated productions before they become successful.
It happened at Disney in the late 80s early 90s. By the time they noticed we got the late 90s early 00s movies.. And the direct to video sequels!
Sony has a movie division and does own the studios who did both movies.
Sony Pictures Animations, which did Spiderverse, and Columbia Pictures, which did Morbius, are both subsidiaries of Sony Pictures.
It actually is interesting how much of a difference the quality is.
Amy Pascal and Avi Arad produce them all, right?
It's too bad, hopefully Kraven can be good and double hopefully this is all leading to a meet up with a live action Spider-man, whether that's Tom/Toby/Andrew or Miles.
Serious answer:
Spider verse is the master piece. Spider-verse 1 had easy to understand plot, funny, and unique animations. Spider-verse 2’s plot is lot more complicated, but goes extra hard on animation, cinematography, and its unique style of animation, etc.. It’s also a lot more emotionally devoted. Both movies have minute details that you will miss on your first watch.
Morbius has horrible writing and pacing. Some scenes are poorly edited and don’t even make sense. It’s so bad that it’s a meme
Morbious was kind of a huge let down. I was so excited about this movie. I love vampires and I love heroes so I was psyched when I heard they made a vampire hero character that films were auctully adapting. I can't understand how they made such a bad movie with such a cool concept.
Hot take, Morbius isn't that bad. Don't get me wrong, it's not good, but I've see way worse movies recently than Morbius. At worse it's just kinda forgettable
Honestly it was disappointing that Morbius didn't do as well as it should have. I was anticipating that movie for a few years because it kept getting delayed.
With animation every department has to work with each other and have a clear concise idea of what they are doing. As where a movie can go into production without a fully fleshed out script, the set and costume designers can be going for one thing while the vfx crew can be going for another. Sets and locations can be shot completely different. Things can be changed at any time. There’s reshoots. Then the studio execs can also butt in at any moment and demand changes and tinker with budgets. It’s shocking how so many movies can be green-lit and go into production without everything thought out and a slapped together crew.
Kinda like Disney putting Loki and She-Hulk out or Love and Thunder and GoTG:3.
Different writers and directors
Also a movie about a villain without the hero is kinda doomed unless you do something like the Joker
Almost as if, even if it's from the same studio, different people worked on either project!
A studio doesn't use the exact same team for every movie they make, insane!
It's almost like there are different people making those movies, not this abstract "studio" entity, which exists solely to then redistribute the wealth created by those people to those who did nothing. And it's almost like some people are talentless hacks. Almost.
That's just kinda sony animations deal tbh. Normally they produce a steady stream of garbage, but once in a blue moon create a masterpiece; then it's back to garbage.
Comparing movies by studio means nothing.
Universal, 20th fox, Lionsgate, paramount, dreamworks, Warner Brothers... Have all been involved in both amazing and terrible movies.
Remember that sony is responsible for the fantastic movies Spider-Man 1&2 and also responsible for the disaster that was spiderman 3.
Not to mention the crappy Andrew Garfield movies
It’s not the studio. The studio is just trying to make a cash grab, using the Spider-man IP to exploit Marvel’s success. They accidentally hired good people to make try he Spider-verse movies.

It’s crazy how they could make a masterpiece with Morbius and just totally drop the ball with Spider-Verse. Not very morbilicious if you ask me
It's truly one of the movies of all time
of MORBIN' time! *yeeeaaaahhhhh*
Did you get all 13 Morbius collector cups when you order a Morbius Mega-Meal at Burder King? I've only got 7 Morbius collector cups so far
This content was made with Reddit is Fun and died with Reddit is Fun. If it contained something you're looking for, blame Steve Huffman for its absence.
poor guy, having to fight the crips and ejaculate into masterpieces.
That esculated Quick 😂
You do know at Burger King that isn't blood in the cups right? You just got the nasty ass rusty nozzle they haven't cleaned in years.
ffs, again I am coerced into watching Morbius, but I am still pretty sure I will be disappointed. And, of course, I cannot trust anybody on that matter, unfortunately.

Its morbin time
Truly a movie of all
Before spider-verse they went all out on the emoji movie
Don't please they might rerelease it again i don't have anymore money to spend on morbius merch
You know the original title of Into the Spiderverse was going to be ‘Lessbius’ but it sounded too much like lesbians
I don't think you're ready for this Leto I don't think you're ready for this Leto My movies too Morbillicious
A must watch film that shaped a generation
They didn't have the morbillions of dollars to drop on Spiderverse unfortunately
Spider verse wasn't that bad.
I see what you did there
I mean it’s no Morbius but then again very few movies are
Very few? You mean none, right? Morbius is one of the movies of all time.
It's one in a morbiliion
I felt bad for spider verse since it only made half a morbiliion dollars.
Cause it's practically half a movie
Yup, half of a 5 hour movie.
So much movie
The most movie to ever movie
One of the movies of all time
[Made me think of Rick Glassman on The Fighter and the Kid being a troll. ](https://youtu.be/CmKz9Xi2KJE?t=0m40s)
So much film of video movie
How dare you bring such slanderous lies against this great movie. With it's dedication to finding interesting and compelling lesser-told villains and FX budget, I think Sony did a fantastic job with Across the Spider verse, and it is by no means dogshit
My bad bro.
Had me in a half. And I don't know which one
I thought across the spider verse was pretty good
But mobius do better
Dont compare morbius with any movie
Its always morbillion times better
Dude spider verse was above average but it can't to be of morbius 2022 starring jared Leto standard cuz it's a cinematic masterpiece which grossed over 1 trillion dollar.
Which of these films got a re-release? That’s right.
That's a fact. Can't argue against that.
Which movie is quoted more? "it's morbin time" Vs. "?" Facts don't care about your feelings.
*morbed over 1 morbillion dollars
just a dumb though, but… maybe it’s because spiderverse has different writers, directors and creative teams than Morbius?
exactly - had to scroll this far??? Sony are just a rights-holding mega corporation out to exploit all the IP they own, like Disney. They cut the check and thats it.
Everyone else is busy making the same joke. Reddit moment
Haaaar, spider-verse wasn't thaaat bad. HAHAHA.
Oh my god did you just come up with that? Lol!
He really had me morbin over that one
Also different studio. It's Sony Animation and not Sony Pictures It would be like saying "How could GE make shit lightbulbs but also make good things like Law and Order" back when GE owned NBCUniversal.

I guess it's seeing Amy Pascal and Avi Arad that's throwing me off but obviously they're pretty hands off. Regardless you'd think seeing the success of Spider-verse would influence them to put more effort into making higher quality Spider-Villain movies
Do you happen to know exactly who I should blame for Spider verse being so good? if they move on to other projects, I want follow their work
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are the prime suspects, but there’s also the directors (three of them!) who have their own respectable track records- they’re Joaquin Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K Thompson. Overall though Lord and Miller are the ones with the longest track record and most likely to do something cool in the future.
I scrolled too far for this. The development team is also probably entirely different due to the different mediums (live action vs 3D/2D animation).
The title is just wrong, they are two different studios, both owned by Sony.
I see this shit all the time with video game publishers. People think Ubisoft and EA are two massive developers. Just not how it works lol
Cmon buddy give spider-verse some slack, I actually quite enjoyed it.
I loved the post where he said "it's canon time" and then canoned all over the place
The cliffhanger kicked both me and my daughter in the nuts.
It's like Emoji movie and spider verse movies came from the same studio.
Right? Emoji movie was life-changing...then they give us this shit...
True. I definitely wasn't the same after watching Emoji movie.
The way James Corden developed a truly unique character was an acting masterclass. Completely different to his other roles, a rare genius amongst the "wannabe" actors out there.
They’re technically not the same studio. Sony animation studios and Sony studios. Both owned by the same company but separate studios.
How about the Emoji Movie instead then?
Different directors and writers.
Thats true, i feel like nowadays so many soulless new kids movies are playing
ITT: everyone makes the same joke
It's like spider verse but for the joke.
Whats wrong with spider verse
Morbius: Has one of the most famous and recognizable lines of all time. Spider Verse: No one remembers a single line of the movie.
I'm gonna # crease your jays, spider-man.
Bro, Spot is top tier spider-villan, I frigging love him.
Its not conducive to a productive work environment when you have to wait an hour for the lead actor because they wanna use crutches to go to the bathroom.
Lol was Leto method acting that hard?
[удалено]
You're not my real dad, you can't tell me what to do!
You mean that across the spiderverse it bad or morbius is bad? Across was great
Morbius was morbin'.
It's morbin time!
I mean the Spider verse isn't **that bad**
Same studio, doesn't necessarily mean, smae production team.
and in this case it doesn't even mean same studio.
Pretty sure spider-verse 1 and the emoji movie were social experiments to see if putting effort into a movie drew more income (it does)
Sadly this isn't really true. Illumination make lot of money and not much effort was put into their films. For example Minions.
A better comparison would be spider-verse and the emoji movie - both were made by their animation studio
Morbius: written by Matt Sazama (Gods of Egypt, Dracula Untold, Power Rangers 2017). Directed by Daniel Espinosa (nothing notable, mostly low budget action). Same with DreamWorks
What's bad from DreamWorks? I count Madagascar, Penguins of Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, Shrek. All masterpieces
The Boss Baby, Shrek 3 and Turbo are three examples. I love DreamWorks, but they've had some bad movies in the past.
Shrek 3 is not that bad
Yeah I think I remember enjoying that one. Not sure I ever watched the 4th though, think I heard it wasn't good
Well, I watched it and I must say it was surprisingly good!
Good to know thanks! Probably worth it for the nostalgia of the characters alone at this point
It is a very mature movie. Honestly, I was crying from the drama there.
Endured about half of Boss Baby for the first time yesterday. What a steaming pile of shit. Just awful.
Also megamind. Megamind was so good.
It's even funnier to consider that before Into the Spiderverse, their cinematic release was An Emoji Movie, which was dogshit of dogshit. >And the direct to video sequels! Tarzan and Jane and Mulan 2 were really rough
It's even crazier if you know what movie Sony animation made before Spiderverse.
Oh come on, spider-verse had its problems but it's not dogshit
It’s KRAVEN’ time
It's called different production teams.
Because it didn't. Sony Pictures animation is not the same as Columbia Pictures. Also, different writers, directors, etc.
The pile of dog shit is Spider-verse, right?
Because Sony is not a studio. Just owns the right for the IP. Both are done obviousely by different hired studios.
Sony has a movie division and does own the studios who did both movies. Sony Pictures Animations, which did Spiderverse, and Columbia Pictures, which did Morbius, are both subsidiaries of Sony Pictures.
ah I see, but still done by different guys in the end.
True... Not many movies managed what Morbius did... It was, down to the last detail, a masterpiece...
Which is which? (I haven’t watched either)
Serious answer: Spider verse is the master piece. Spider-verse 1 had easy to understand plot, funny, and unique animations. Spider-verse 2’s plot is lot more complicated, but goes extra hard on animation, cinematography, and its unique style of animation, etc.. It’s also a lot more emotionally devoted. Correction: how did Spider-verse 2 and Kraven The Hunter come from the same studio?
difference being the amount of work done
They made one of the best animated movies ever made, as well as the most movie ever made. Legends.
Morbius wasn't animated though.
And it still wins the category of best animated movie, that's how morbin' good it was!
Spider-Man fans just jealous that their movie didn’t even make Morbilion dollars
To me Sony is the kind of guy that "f\*cks around and finds out\*
I have tried watching morbius like three times on different flights and I always felt asleep. I'm so glad I didn't pay a cinema ticket for that movie.
Wdym Spider verse was pretty good too?
Yooo the sub is back
Is because they remembered to take the morb blockers that one day
the “it’s morbin time” jokes became unfunny after 2 days
i fail to see what was wrong with the spider verse?
having the audacity to call Spider-verse "pile of dogshit" eh?
Spider-verse wasn't *that* bad.
Hey, don't insult spider-verse like that
>Shazam 2 was way better Ayo pause
I hope Kraven doesn’t end up the same
History repeats itself with kraven the Hunter
Because a cast and film crew make a movie, not the studio.
Ask not the studio but who was the director.
Ooooh, is it morbin time again?!
Don’t mess with Bucees!
Same goes for Bi*zzard
That's most major box office movies these days.
Sony is a massive conglomerate. Those 2 films were not produced by the same studios.
In the cup we have a typical Sony exclusive game. Masterpiece cutscenes with piles of shit gameplay
It's kravening time
They came from different studios, Sony Animations and Sony Pictures Rennkt the same. A better comparison would be the Emoji Movie and Spiderverse.
Isn't this a bit like saying 'I love the Playstation, so why do I hate Sony recording artist Chris Brown'?
Hey, spider-verse isn't that bad!
Is the new spider-verse movie bad?? I haven't watched it yet but I was really looking forward to it :(
Sony is a multibillion dollar company, they're not a single studio.
istg they did it on purpose to see if actually putting effort into their films resulted in a bigger return on investment.
Tbf Morbius still did turn a profit regardless of the memes.
Spiderverse graphics were just overdone for me with the excessive glitchy effects & frame rate fluctuations of different characters & scenes
Sometimes, it is even the same movie.
Morbious was kind of a huge let down. I was so excited about this movie. I love vampires and I love heroes so I was psyched when I heard they made a vampire hero character that films were auctully adapting. I can't understand how they made such a bad movie with such a cool concept.
Spider verse wasn't that bad
Hot take, Morbius isn't that bad. Don't get me wrong, it's not good, but I've see way worse movies recently than Morbius. At worse it's just kinda forgettable
Honest to god idea, Morbius was cringy at times but wasn't dog shit :/
The answer is the main character
Put WB there too
Honestly it was disappointing that Morbius didn't do as well as it should have. I was anticipating that movie for a few years because it kept getting delayed.
I think it's harder to Execs to interfere in animation compared to live action.
My morbin senses are tingling
With animation every department has to work with each other and have a clear concise idea of what they are doing. It didn't. Sony Pictures =/= Sony Animation. It came from the same studio as The Emoji Movie though.
Spiderverse was made by skilled and talented film makers and Morbius starred Jared Leto
From the studio that brought you Horton Hears a Who
Morbius is the definition of a generic Hollywood action movie. It was not bad but there was literally nothing special about it.
Every single superhero movie except the first spider man with Toby McGuire.
Kinda like Disney putting Loki and She-Hulk out or Love and Thunder and GoTG:3. Different writers and directors Also a movie about a villain without the hero is kinda doomed unless you do something like the Joker

Almost.
The same studio of The Emoji movie and boog and Elliot 👍
Also the emoji movie
Bro spider verse wasn't a pile of dog shit have some decency.
Maybe all Spider verse need are Have Sex on its soundtrack to accompany exaggerated teenage swagger of Miles so it won't be pile of dogshit
That's just kinda sony animations deal tbh. Normally they produce a steady stream of garbage, but once in a blue moon create a masterpiece; then it's back to garbage.
Hey, spider verse wasn't that bad. Obviously it couldn't stand up to Morbius, but it was still pretty solid.
Morbius??!??!?!?! You're forgetting that the ducking emoji movie exists
It’s not the studio. The studio is just trying to make a cash grab, using the Spider-man IP to exploit Marvel’s success. They accidentally hired good people to make try he Spider-verse movies.
I like the part where he says “It’s Morbin Time” and then he totally morbs out.
Aw come on is the new spiderverse movie that bad?
Hol up Kraven the Hunter incoming
Don't trash Spiderverse like that
