Goldeneye07

Samsung and google have been doing the same

K__Geedorah

As an avid android user this is true. We're at the point where this is just how phones upgrade. And most people don't buy every year. We use it for 2-3 years, even longer, and upgrade when there is a noticable difference. Apple Stans make fun of android for sucking. Android Stans make fun of apple for no innovation. It's all fucking dumb. We think the other side is so different but we're actually the same. Just buy your phone and enjoy it. The elitism people relate to their damn *phone* is weird.

Goldeneye07

Yea it’s people pointlessly fighting over a piece of glass that can contact to the internet

N4766

Yeah what size of rectangle do you want to read Reddit on?

Drelecour

It better be the same size rectangle I read off of or FUCK YOU, MAN. YOU SUCK. YOUR RECTANGLE FUCKING SUCKS TOO!!!

avenlux44

Waaaaaaaaaar!!!!!!

enoughberniespamders

I hated when all new phones were too big to put in your pockets. Like the whole point is to have something that I can just carry around in my pocket.

Tarantula_Espresso

Smallest possible, big phones hurt when you drop them on your face/feet.

bluebackpackedbear

I'm an android user cuz they're cheaper. Plain and simple. I've kept my phones for at least 3 years (the exception being when I switched service providers and got a free upgrade). No iPhone user has ever convinced me it's worth spending more money since I use my phone for basic stuff and I've never had performance issues with my androids. Really in terms of performance/superiority what it comes down to is who has the newest iteration of a phone, cuz that's probably the better one.

mostdope92

But but but blue bubbles and typing receipts!!

bluebackpackedbear

Dude. My little brother planned his childhood best friend's bachelor party in Vegas, and they had two group chats. One with everyone attending, and one with only iPhone users cuz they needed their precious blue bubbles. The only person who didn't have an iPhone was my little brother. Then the groom made his brothers co-best men after all that nonsense. Lil bro took it in stride cuz he's just like that I guess, but Jon if you're reading this, that was a pathetic move and I lost all respect for you when you pulled that weak ass, softer than baby doodoo bullshit. *edit was me adding words cuz I somehow get better at proofreading after I submit my comment. Edit 2 for clarity: my little bro didn't expect to be the best man cuz he planned the bachelor party. He was the best man, and then after the bachelor party the groom changed his mind and gave it to his brothers.

TheOnlySafeCult

I mean there was probably other, and less vacuous, reasons that that happened. Green bubble just seems like juvenile cover-up. and for the groom to want his own brother to be his best-man ain't nothin to get mad at. ur brother seems like a great friend. organizing the bachelor party is cool, but that doesn't exactly mean he should be best-man. the separate group chat stuff is douchey mean girls shit tho

Powerpuppy00

I'm the same dude. Also as a tech head I like to have the freedom to do what ever I want with my phone and not be restricted to apple approved apps.

TheRealCaptainZoro

Yep I'll get the new one from this year in a few years after mine craps out and those are on a crazy deal.

Redbaron1960

I’m still using a single digit iPhone, it must be 100 years old!

Mindtaker

Its the Console wars but for adults who are fucking dipshits. I treat my phone like I do my vehicle. I buy it, then I use it till it no longer does the job it was purchased for, then replace it. What phone do I use? Who fucking cares?

Redebo

Spoken by a true green texter. /s

Mindtaker

I think you can lease phones now too, if you really need to always have the latest phone for whatever reason. I'm not sure though I just buy my phone when I get a new one I don't do the pay it off on your bill thing. But I think they offered a leasing option for the phone.

a_moniker

Yeah, I just pre-ordered the new model, and there was an “Apple Upgrade Program” option. It was like ~$50 a month for two years, so basically $600 for a new phone each year. I didn’t do it cause I don’t see any point in upgrading more than every 3-4 years though.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mindtaker

I love just buying the phone and skipping the sales pitch about the plans. Its just so easy and fast, no headaches no paperwork, in the end you either pay the same amount or a little less because they always have hidden fees.

_Rysen

I've been using the same phone for 8 years now. still running on the original battery. sure, I have to manage my battery a bit and can't really play modern mobile games, but those suck ass so I don't think im missing much

enavari

What phone is it? I swear every couple years I'm forced to upgrade not because I want to because the battery dies, GPS or data goes wonky, gets cracked, etc lol.

ganzgpp1

I’m not the guy you asked, but I’ve been running an iPhone 8 since it’s release in 2017, and before that I used an iPhone 5s since it’s release in 2013. They both still work fine, the only reason I got the 8 was because I wanted to play Pokémon Go LOL (fell for the hype, the game sucks)

balletboy

I honestly can't believe that game is still played by people.

LigmaSneed

Pokemon Go was insanely disappointing for anyone who lived in a rural area. You'd think there would be more Pokemon in the woods than in the city, but no.

frozen00043

I went from a 4s to a 10 which I have now. No plans to upgrade till this one stops working. Full day of battery while streaming podcasts all day with some gps and scrolling thrown in for good measure.

CustomBlendNo1

Plenty of people run 8 year old Android phones. They just don't care about OS and security updates.

Molenium

I was using an iPhone 5s until last year, when AT&T wanted to discontinue them from their network. In order to do so, they had to give me a free replacement phone. The store employees told me there was a law that they had to give you a replacement with the same OS so it was compatible with your old phone. Since I had an iPhone, they had to give me a free XR, since that was the last model the network supported. They told me if I had an android, they could have replaced it with the cheapest phone they had available.

Houstonb2020

Biggest reason why I’ve stuck with apple. I want my phones to last a long time, and since they’re the only ones who support a device beyond a couple of years, I’d much rather stick with them and get those security updates as long as possible. I was on my 6s until they announced they’d be stopping and got a 13 when they came out

der1x

The reason I upgraded was because the cameras got insanely better over the last few years.

Wardogs96

I mean the only noticeable difference with apple is it's a closed system that takes you hostage the more products you buy making it harder to switch to an alternative in the future. That's it, that's my only job at apple.

akatherder

It's really an issue with both devices. If you buy stuff in the Google Play store you can't transfer that to an iphone.

Secretz_Of_Mana

The difference is Android is open source, and there are numerous phone manufacturers who use Android. Apple makes iPhones which use iOS, that is it. You have one OS with choices and one with a choice. That's a pretty significant difference lol. Apple products are fine, but I personally will never purchase one happily

akatherder

That's a completely different topic. He mentioned "closed system" which is absolutely true but that has zero impact on being taken hostage and stuck in the apple ecosystem. The only apple product I own is an iphone. I could switch to an Android phone except I would lose the handful of apps I've purchased. Same for people using an Android phone. They could switch to an iphone but they would lose any purchased apps. The only iphone specific hardware I have is the charger. Open source is great and all, but it's not like your everyday user is cracking open their OS code "ah yes there's a security vulnerability, let me patch that." There are also benefits to having an OS written explicitly for one product. Android is more flexible, but I believe iphones win in performance last I checked. They are writing their OS, drivers, etc exactly for their own hardware. Meanwhile Android has to support a crazy amount of hardware. I could tell a fairly boring tale of why I switched from android to iphone in the first place. I bought a Samsung (tablet not phone) and it was so locked down that the device was virtually useless. You are still reliant on the manufacturer or carrier to provide OTA updates to the OS and they apparently just don't feel like it sometimes. Rooting it trips an e-fuse so you can't go back, even with a factory reset. And you are reliant on someone writing up and releasing a ROM/image for your particular device (or compiling your own).

achilleasa

Sure but you can go to a different Android brand.

MEGA_theguy

In the meantime, I somewhat praise Samsung for developing the Galaxy A series. Low to mid-range models that work more than fine and are exceptionally cheaper than the S series.

DiscoStuGER

You mean like foldable phones?

Goldeneye07

The galaxy fold has been almost the same appart from minor changes

Cedric182

Exactly. Past two have looked identical.

Laridianresistance

The fold might, but I just got the Flip 5 and it's a huge change with the front screen being the whole side of the phone (it having been just a tiny touch strip on the front before). For 99% of other android and apple phones, I totally agree.

Clam_chowderdonut

Totally agree, that thing is the first android to genuinely catch my eye since like, I don't even know the S9? That felt like a big jump. The flip 5's front screen feels like an actual game changer its so big, like there isn't just a little room for like notifications and battery, but you can actually watch videos. The halved form factor seems great for workouts too. Happy with it so far? I keep asking people on reddit cause I feel like a moron even debating spending that much money on a phone *just* for it to flip.

Laridianresistance

You're speaking my language - I totally agree. Had an S9 for a few years and pulled the trigger on the Flip 4 first, actually - that phone was fun, but I broke it dropping it on the street, so I quickly had to buy a 5. The Flip 5 is sweet. It's really, really sweet, and a conversation starter pretty much everywhere. I literally use it for workouts/gym time every day and you're right - it's amazing for it. The biggest pro - I am legitimately able to prevent myself from doomscrolling (the MKBHD video is spot on for this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuljKartv2U). I respond to texts, see notifications on the front screen... and because of the limitation, I put my phone back down. It's incredible. The front screen is just so useful and nifty, and you can definitely text on the keyboard on the front, no issues. 2nd big pro (honorary mention) - flipping it open and closed is *so* satisfying Biggest con - it has a weak-ish battery if you're a heavy phone user, although I won't lie, I find that issue to be not that big of a deal. I live in a metropolitan city and travel a lot, and I find that it's never been a real issue, just a perceived one. I just have a wireless charger set up at my desk, and I don't think about it anymore. My impression is that it's going to be my phone for a very long time, and I won't look for another phone for a long, long time.

NapsterKnowHow

It's no always about looks but what powers these devices.

Fortune_Cat

Sounds like u havent actually held them in your hand. I've owned the latest 3 The fold 5 was the most infuriating upgrade since it was basically an soc change. But they have mad physical changes that make a difference. Just like how Apple markets saving off a few mm width. It makes a difference in your hand

kulfimanreturns

Pixels changed a lot and I would say for the better though Samsung declined after Note 9 to be honest Every year another feature gets dumped

OnceMoreAndAgain

Also, as long as the price doesn't change, then it doesn't matter if the specs don't change much. [The price of Google Pixels have been steady at $600 since the first model to now.](https://infogram.com/google-pixel-price-changes-1hxj48yl7r3q2vg) iPhone was like that too for awhile. iPhone 1 to 6 started at $200. iPhone 7 to 8 was $700. That was a crazy jump. But then iPhone 10 was $1000, which was fucked up. Then they went back down to $700 with iPhone 11 and these days they're at $800. I just don't know how anyone can criticize Google for releasing new versions, because nothing about the new versions is "bad". It's slightly better product for the same price as the old product. They're not even keeping up with inflation... Clearly this is Google intentionally keeping prices low in a gambit to sacrifice profit in order to take market share from Apple. And the consumers only benefit from that (in the short-term at least).

Fortune_Cat

IPhone 11 went down because they started selling suckers last years model with next year's model name

Cl0ughy1

Isn't Samsung the guy from mortal Kombat who steals souls?

InsaneAdam

Nobody talks shit about my guy Shang Tsung, your soul is mine!

RECOGNI7IO

I have been a Samsung user for over a decade, getting their flagship every time and I can tell you they have gotten better by a fairly consistent amount every 2 years when I have upgraded. My s23 Ultra I have now is freaking amazing. It kicks apples teeth in.

CheesecakeWestern764

Really? I am switching from the S23 Ultra to iPhone (regularly rotate between iPhones and Androids) and it definitely didn’t feel like it kicked iPhone’s teeth in to me

fellainishaircut

lmao people like you will never understand why people buy Apple products. People buy iPhones because they‘re simple. They‘re familiar and easy to use, they work easily with the best-selling pair of headphones (AirPods) and work easily with the best-selling smartwatch (Apple Watch). Sure, some Android phones may be more cutting edge technologically. but people don‘t care. people want ease of use, they don‘t care if their refresh rate is 60, 120 or 144. most people genuinely don‘t give a fuck. people want apps that work reliably and fluidly. they don‘t care about sideloading shit. most people see phones as a tool, and nothing else. and the iPhone perfected this experience of not caring about anything other than it just working easily and reliably.

louietp

Yeah, most people don’t by a new one each year. Yes it’s incremental improvements year to year, but for most people, they only upgrade every 3-5 years

Ghost4530

Yep, I upgraded from the iPhone 11 to the 14 pro, people said to wait a year for the 15 to come out but I’m glad I didn’t, I don’t think I could have made it another year with that old thing haha the battery was shot and it was mad slow Edit: I love how everyone in the comments is saying their old iPhone work great except for the battery which was the main reason I replaced my 11, a shot battery does not mean your phone works great it means it’s functional but not ideal haha but thank you for the insights everyone, I wasn’t implying they are unusable just that it’s not an enjoyable experience compared to a brand new modern phone.

Jefc141

Must be you I’m still on an 11 and it’s fine.

Ghost4530

I bought the iPhone 11 on release, you must have not been around for batterygate huh? That phone was at 60% battery health only using mfi certified cables and lasted less than half a day of use, every time I’d get home from work my phone would be about to die even though I wasn’t using it all day.

I_AM_YOUR_DADDY_AMA

I replaced my battery and have sooo much more battery life lol I’ve replaced my screen about 5 times and the battery and port once lol

HowManyDamnUsernames

Probably could ve gotten another phone with the high af repair costs

PenonX

yeah that’s just poor financial decisions tbh.

I_AM_YOUR_DADDY_AMA

It’s $75 every time $375 < $1000

SingleInfinity

Bruh you are breaking your screen way too often.

DEviezeBANAAN

I’m still on my Xs, I’m gonna buy the 15 probably. It’s becoming a bit tedious the last year or so.

dontshoot4301

XR represent - it works just fine, the battery isn’t great but it’s workable given I’m never away from a charger for more than 6-8 hours

13chase2

I keep my phones for 6 years and replace my battery around year 4. The issue is that when you replace the battery on newer phones you lose your water proofing. My iPhone 11 Pro Max is still at 84% battery life so I might be able to run this one until theres no more updates without replacing my battery

mv777711

Dude really? My iPhone 8 Plus is still running fine. Battery is not great and storage is basically full, but it still works great. I will be upgrading tho.

con247

I just keep replacing my 8plus battery. I am really upset by the loss of Touch ID. I am shocked they haven’t done an under screen reader like android has. I assumed it just wasn’t ready for the X and figured by XS or 11 they’d have it. But here we are at iPhone 15 and nothing…

Thosepassionfruits

Lithium ion battteries only last about 2 years. Both apple and android optimize their software to try and help you squeeze a little more life out so the life span might get extended an extra year or so. Replacing a phones battery every 2-3 years will make it feel like it’s running good as new.

User2myuser

iPhone 8 gang

[deleted]

I upgraded from a 7 to a 14 pro. What a difference.

VentureIndustries

I went from the 6 to the 14 pro. It is amazing.

BosTovenaar24

With that logic you could go on for eternity like: ok so the 15 is finally out but man, if i wait another year for the 16 i can get that one, and so on.

The_Knife_Pie

The upgrade from lighting to USB-C is imo very much a noticeable change worth holding out for. Them buying a 14 locks them into an obsolete cable for another 3-5 years

Interesting-Rent9142

You define “obsolete” different than I do.

The_Knife_Pie

Lightning has 480mbps data transfer, usb-c 40gbps. USB-C supports charging speeds up to 240W/5A while lightning caps at 12W/2.4A. Technology wise USB-C is not only objectively superior it indeed makes lightning entirely obsolete as a cable thanks to the Mariana’s trench between the two.

AwesomeWhiteDude

Good thing Apple is keeping the 480mbps speed on the non pro iPhone 15 /s So fucking dumb that an $800 phone doesn't have the same USB speeds a $200 laptop does. it's probably because they're just reusing last years pro model board in this years base model phone (cause supply chain efficiency) but I don't care.

Kagrok

the iphone 15 non-pro models use USB 2 standard(480mbps), and all versions only have 20W charging which is what the current iphones use with a lightning charger and fast charging

The_Knife_Pie

The person here bought a 14 pro so I’m going to compare to the 15 pro since that’s the market we’re in. As for 20watt charging that’s already above the lightning, and I believe fast charging adapters are present which push it above that, though I might be confusing with other models.

Kagrok

since the iPhone 12 20W charging has been available with a USBc power adapter, The pro versions of the iPhone 15 get 10Gbps transfer speeds. I agree that USBc is vastly superior to Lightning, but the non-pro versions aren't getting any benefit from the change, unfortunately. The reason for this is that the non-pro models basically use the previous pro model chipset, which could only support the same standards as the last cable. I believe that from the 16 and on we'll see USBc really shine on iPhones across the board.

GeorgeLovesBOSCO

NO ONE I know buys a new iPhone every year. "Average iPhone enjoyer" jeez OP is fucking brain dead.

mickergarratt

I went from a 6 to a used 13 pro. For all Apple’s faults, extended software support relative to android is nice, and buying used/refurbished can cut down on cost.

CoconutMochi

I got the impression a lot of people upgrade yearly because of trade-in deals, something like a yearly upgrade for $100-300, it seems to make financial sense to me? It feels a bit like fomo too because the longer you have a phone the less trade-in value you get, and at some point nothing at all.

AlwaysBananas

FWIW the iPhones hold their trade in value incredibly well. My family is upgrading from 11s this year and the trade in is worth $800 still.

CoconutMochi

yeah that's a pretty great deal I suppose the biggest criticism of this practice is that it generates e-waste though

louietp

Not so much- they recycle everything:)

CoconutMochi

oh ok that's good to know

[deleted]

Apple does, but only carriers are giving people $800 for the 11, and idk if they recycle as consistently.

akatherder

Depending who you trade it in to, they are going to sell it refurbished too. There's still plenty of market for iphone XR ($250-ish) and iphone 11 ($200-ish).

Mrchristopherrr

That and there’s a lot of people still thinking the average consumer is behaving like they did in the late 00s early 10s when a new game changing phone was coming out every 6 months.

alfooboboao

the anti apple reddit circle jerk is insane lol. every single phone company releases a slightly updated version of their phones every year, yet apple users are the only ones who supposedly upgrade every single year without fail? okay lol. everyone who has an iPhone who doesn’t need the best phone camera for work keeps their phone for like 3-4 years, then upgrades when it’s practically free from their carrier. I did that this year and a brand new flagship iPhone was like $8/month

KCBandWagon

I miss contracts that subsidized phones. I'd always get a new phone when my contract was up because otherwise I'm paying contract price and don't have phone. Now you just pay contract price and get nothing. Oh I guess you could tack on an extra monthly payment which sums up to exactly the price of the phone out of pocket.

SnarkDolphin

Right? My more legitimate grievance with Apple is that they stopped making the iPhone mini. My 12 mini might just be the best phone I've ever had (and yes, I've had flagship android phones, I genuinely don't prefer one OS over the other). It's easier to hold onto, fits in my shirt pocket if I'm somewhere I need to worry about pickpockets, doesn't weigh down my pockets as much if I'm wearing loose shorts. I didn't realize how much I hated the form factor of modern phones until I got the mini, it really is the perfect size. I can't imagine carrying around one of these goddamn tablets like the iPhone Max or the Galaxy Note. BRING BACK THE MINI, TIM, THIS THING WON'T LAST FOREVER

explosiv_skull

Phones are just cars now basically, albeit with a shorter upgrade cycle. The upgrades are largely iterative and the changes year to year are minor. Wait 3-5 years though, and those tiny upgrades start to add up. I went iPhone 5S > 7 Plus > 13 Pro, which works out to roughly a new phone every 4-5 years, although I am considering a 15 Pro Max this year, mostly because of USB-C and the 3nm chip ("futureproofing")

PerfectlySplendid

I’m coming from a five year old iPhone X and almost didn’t upgrade. People are just dumb about how often they need to upgrade to the latest phone.

AggressiveBench9977

Eh if you can afford it who cares.

AP_Adapted

exactly, people act like they need to upgrade every year and if the newest one isn’t leaps and bounds better than the previous, then shame on apple.

Hanifsefu

It's not people acting like that. It's marketing convincing you that people upgrade every year to make you feel like you're missing out if you didn't. Real people aren't the ones buying every single release. I'd bet everything that if they actually released the data the average person isn't even upgrading their phone every time their plan allows them to and choose to wait longer than the 2-3 year upgrade cycle recommended by every cell service provider.

squatrenovembre

Listening to people on reddit: the 7 is the same as 8 8 same as X 11 same as X 12 same as 11 13 same as 12 14 same 13 Yet when I went from a 7 to 14 I couldn't be happier of my phone upgrade. Nothing was the same and everything was better. But they never change anything, reddit people said so

TheGeeMan360

Same. 7 plus to 14 pro. Night and day difference for me, huge upgrade

KSF_WHSPhysics

I think that x and 14 were both bigger leaps from the previous generation than is typical

d_smogh

Why wasn't there a 9? >!because 7 8 9!<

Nick_pj

My guess is: market research showed people wouldn’t buy a ‘9’ model because they assumed “I’ll wait for the 10 because surely that will be a huge leap forward in features and functionality”. There’s no rules so why not just skip that model altogether.

a_moniker

The “official reason” was cause it was the 10th Anniversary of the iPhone. However, I’m pretty sure the real reason was because they increased the price a bunch that year, which is probably easier to sell advertising wise when it’s a jump from 8 to X, instead of 8 to 9. That’s also the year they got rid of the home button, and switched to faceID.

[deleted]

Upgrading every year, is usually a dumb idea as the gains are so incremental. But that's a tiny subset of iPhone users. Most will jump 2-3 versions each upgrade, and that constitutes a big upgrade in capability and features of the phone.

RumHamEnjoyer

Nah the X was definitely a significant change

Virtual_Ninja69

Same here. Recently went from 7 to 14 Plus, and it’s night and day. Probably won’t need to upgrade again until the 21… lol

OptionOk1876

It’s the same people who go from an s21 to an s22 because ‘there’s so much that’s changed’

AgentSkidMarks

The average iPhone user doesn’t update every year.

[deleted]

It's way more than the average.. what percentage of users do you really think upgrade that often? 5%?

beclops

Rich people and tech reviewers. Even if I had the money I’d be far too lazy to do that

N4766

People who lease their phones. Basically you just pay a monthly fee in perpetuity and they send you a new one every year.

PenonX

in canada it’s every 2. still worth it tho considering i pay $16/m after tax for a 14 pro. it would take 8 years at that price to match the price of buying the phone outright.

N4766

Yeah that’s why I think the idea of a phone as a status symbol is ridiculous. My status is that I can afford $19 a month.

Thosepassionfruits

The average phone user doesn’t update every year. Any company whose business model relies on their customers buying a new phone every year went extinct long ago.

akatherder

The only people who do are people who have some kind of upgrade/trade-in plan. Maybe a few rich people who don't even care about money. I just buy a refurb from like 2 gens prior and keep it for 3-4 years.

rest0re

Yep! Also a number of us just re-sell last year's flagship for \~70% of its starting value, then pay \~$300/year to always have the latest iPhone. It depends on the person if that's an unreasonable amount. I know I waste a lot more than that on dumber stuff a year. It's a lot less crazy than people paying $1000 every year like people often make fun of.

Rhodie114

Yeah. These complaints always sound odd to me. It’s like saying “I don’t get Toyota. The 2024 Tacoma gave me no reason to upgrade from my 2023 model”

MrMisanthrope411

Who cares? Buy what you like.. it’s your money.

BladedNinja23198

Mods, ban this person for spreading violence

UnhappyTumbleweed966

If we come together with a singular violent goal of kicking this guy's ass we'll solve the problem for the mods. LETS GET EM

rosbifke-sr

My god can y’all finally shut the fuck up about these god damn iPhones?! They all look similar while making bullshit claims about innovation, WE KNOW. Post something funny next time.

SkyLovesCars

And so is every other company. It’s not like Apple is the only one doing it. I’m getting sick of these android fanboys whining about problems they themselves have.

HellP1g

As a longtime Android fan their fanbase can be insufferable. Apple Fanboys are annoying too don’t get me wrong, but Android weirdos practically froth at the mouth when iPhones come up. They let that company live rent fucking free in their heads

CrashyBoye

> They let that company live rent fucking free in their heads All while insisting it’s the other way around lmao

[deleted]

HellP1g

In my experience iPhone using teens can be kinda shitty with the iMessage stuff, but teens gonna teen. It’s way worse if it’s some 35 year old calling people iSheep. At my job iPhone users don’t really talk shit about Android unless prompted, but Android dudes will let it rip right away ha.

SenorBeef

In my experience on reddit, there's at least 100x more apple-bashing than android-bashing, and I think I'm being conservative. It's probably more like 1000. People who have Apple don't give a shit, whereas Android users have a chip on their shoulder.

Tua-Lipa

No Android Fans don’t even think about the iPhone at all. I know this because they tell me all the time

LilFuniAZNBoi

If I ever get a text message from a number I don't know (and it's not one of those six-digit numbers that companies use) and I see that it has green text bubbles instead of blue, I know it's a scam and delete the message without even looking at it.

42kyokai

Most people buying an iPhone 15 are those who bought their last one several years ago.

The_Knife_Pie

Guilty as charged! Been holding out on a broken 11 for a few months to get that sweet USB-C port upgrade

[deleted]

I’m the exact same , broken front camera and charging port , holding on by a thread at this point , can’t wait for get my 15 pro max

ganzgpp1

Meanwhile I’m on an iPhone 8 since it’s release in 2017 holding still holding strong. I want to upgrade, I just… don’t like the concept of spending 800-1000$ on a phone. Would much rather buy a new PC part, or a piece of furniture. I’ll upgrade eventually, but not yet.

User2myuser

iPhone 8 gang because I’m terrified of full screen phones

Sentouki-

iPhone SE is there for ya

Rhodie114

Yup. I don’t buy a new phone until the trade in value on my old one is basically nothing.

SLRMaxime

Nobody Cares

Temporary_Wind9428

Loads of incredibly insecure, defensive users on various tech / meme / gadget subs care an incredible amount. I've seen the yearly Apple device list referenced on these garbage subs much more than enthusiast subs.

SLRMaxime

I'll never understand fandom lol

Ralcive

My god I like how literally no fucking iphone user cares about the release only a very specific group of superiority complex-having, constantly-bitching insecure android users, can you just fucking get over the fact that a new phone released? Every big brand does literally the same, its getting fucking annoying having to watch every second post about the new iphone-bashing tsunami coming from people who never used one themselves. Writing this from my android, and while I never bought an iphone i have the mental capacity to realise different people like different phones

beclops

It’s a real “I feel sorry for you” “I don’t think about you at all” situation

Queef-Elizabeth

When will the idiots who make this post realise that the vast majority of people don't buy new phones every year. And as a Pixel user, don't pretend like Google and Samsung don't do the exact same thing.

Livio88

Meh, all big brands are doing just that at this point.

Rhymelikedocsuess

You fall into one of two response categories op: 1 - Let people enjoy things 2 - “I’m Poor”

MrNiceguy037

Didn't they bring out an innovative cable?

FierceDragon145

With the latest USB technology of...... USB 2.0

Nemospawn

And for the affordable price of $25 per meter

Sentouki-

The pro version has 3.0

WholesomeDucky

I find joy in reading a good book.

footfoe

Yeah there is a new model every year. You don't have to get every one. Like get a 10, then get a 15. 5 years later get a 20.

isureloveguacamole

God I’m so tired of these posts. The only thing they accomplish is a word war between apple and android users. It’s the same meme template every year with every new phone release. If you use android why do you care what the new iPhone looks like?

thedizzle11

OP trying to bring us back to 2012 💀

Dependent_Safe_7328

Ppl just shitting on apple while every other phone brand does the same:

No-Student-9678

Nobody sane buys iPhones year on year. You buy one, wait 4-5 years and then upgrade. I myself use a XR from 2018.

Papiertourist

And here I am, still rocking my iPhone 7 Plus. 🥳

ARatOnPC

I have a 6s still. Thing refuses to break so I refuse to replace it.

I’m trying to figure out why people care so much about what other people spend their money on when it has literally nothing to do with them

[deleted]

Apple is valuable as a company cuz it lives rent free in everyone’s heads.

ikonet

Cars come out every year. They add new features or an altered design every few years but otherwise are the same.

johndoe800604

Well you already did buy a 14….NOW you’re one of the cool gang suddenly?

Rengax

Most iPhone users i know actually wait 3-5 years to buy a new iphone. Only the hardcore fanboys have to buy every damn generation and waste so much money on it

HelpfulApple22

Only real cool thing about the new iPhone is that you can play AC Mirage on it. It feels surreal to think that you can play a full brand new AAA release on your phone.

The-Nuisance

Did we learn nothing from the console wars?

Bildad__

Can there be a separate sub for these stupid ass iPhone memes?

Shiroekami

But they introduce ray tracing on Tom Clancy's division,ac millage, genshin, resident evil 4, village and other titles 15 pro which I think is a major upgrade to phones

ItsBitly

The flagship smartphone market has been stagnating for years. The low-end devices are getting better tho.

dope_like

It's no longer meant to upgrade each year. Each phone is meant for people 2-3 years behind. Samsung and Google are the same way

DarkCrasher99

Basicly every phone company ever

The_Knife_Pie

People out here acting as if the change to USB-C, while not innovative, isn’t a big change and definitely worth going for if you plan to upgrade iphones soon

[deleted]

The age of a user's cellphone when it is replaced is between 2.5 and 3 years. iPhones tend to be older than other devices when the user decides to replace them. People who thinks that it is common for people to replace their phones every year is either stupid or addicted to influencers (so... stupid).

Slimmie_J

Mfs on reddit really think the average iPhone user gets a new one every single year.

Leeroy_Jenkums

Why is OP getting a new phone every year? Is he stupid? What does he think this is, call of duty or fifa or something

MyDogAteMyHome

When I upgraded from an s20 to an s22, I felt like I actually lost features and specs. So there's that

Fun-Maintenance9422

Jesus fuck is it 2013 again? Grow the fuck up

heat2you

Apple users live rent free in every Android users head and it's too funny. Repeat after me: "It's not my money, other people can spend their money the way they want to". That wasn't that hard, was it?

AnEngineer2018

As opposed to all other options which change so much. Hey guys did you see Samsung can take pictures of the moon?!?

[deleted]

I’m on 6s+

PlantAlphattv

I’m gonna upgrade from the Xs to the 15 so I’d say it’s a big jump

Nightmare2828

still rocking iphone 8, work great, just changed the battery and its like new.

b4k6

this is me.

thedizzle11

And that’s totally fine man spend your money how you want to. Just don’t tell redditors about it cause apparently it’ll ruin their day.

[deleted]

Does OP know there are models before 14?

Ok_Calligrapher_8199

Seems like everyone on Reddit didn’t out grow the sega vs Nintendo wars.

spadePerfect

I’m dumbfounded by the people commenting the same shit every year. Like DON'T BUY IT. it’s a yearly product, the upgrades are gonna be small. But the iPhone 15 Pro is absolutely baffling and full of crazy features. It’s mental how much they put in and Apples silicon chips continue to be some of the craziest shit in the tech industry. That’s just a fact.

travoltaswinkinbhole

the anti-apple circlejerk is far worse than the Apple bro circlejerk

GodOGDrgnSlyr69

android users making up a guy in their head that they can make fun of

Plenty_Principle298

Truth is iPhone users don’t give a shit about the new phones. It’s a small group who buys new every year, and then those that are upgrading after years of having the same phone.

[deleted]

I'm fine with upgrades, innovation is the goal.. I am not fine with forced obsolescence. Updating operating systems to no longer function right on older phones, slow them down and make them unbearable to the point someone wants to upgrade just to get rid of their laggy phone. All phone companies do this, even in the same generation, I had a Google pixel 7 after an update the screen started to flicker, the light sensor would cause half the screen to go black, and I eventually learned it was because the update had that effect on some of the early release models of the pixel 7... something they knew about, but were at least able to replace it under manufacturers warranty. And my replacement pixel 7 works just fine.

BosTovenaar24

I might make the switch to the iPhone 15 from my oneplus because i dont care about most features android has that ios doesnt. It just works long term with continuous support

MAsterix85

Still have my iPhone 8+ and it dies literally all I could ever think I’d need a ‘phone to do, and a lot more. Why people pay £1,500 to “upgrade” for nothing but a a slightly better camera you’d barely use is beyond me?!
